I feel bad writing this but I hope it will help the business because it's full of potential. Sunny's manicure is great and lasted, but there is no pampering. He absolutely knows what he's doing and I wish I felt safe using him again. He's good enough, I'd forgive the lack of TLC. Essentially, he doesn't soak your nails, limited cuticle treatment, seconds of a massage, but gives a gel that lasts and shines. The pedicure didn't last and the massage was very limited, as well. Honestly, I get pedicures for the massage to try and relax from a crazy week. This is not the place for that and that's fine, but selling it has a hot stone massage is misleading. You're barely touched for a few seconds with two stones. Basically, this salon has great talent in gel manicures, but they do not create a spa environment. Speaking of the environment that is my biggest concern. The salon was scary dirty. Had I not prepaid, I would have never stayed. I even debated getting up in fear of getting an infection, but the pedicure tools did come in an auto-claved sterile package, but for that I would have left. In short, if they'd clean up and amp up the pampering I'd would love to try again. The competition here in Marin is full of beautiful salons with chandeliers and champagne. Sonny did a fantastic job on our nails! My mom and I came her for a gel manicure and got stone pedicure. The lady who did our pedicure, (Nina?) she also was amazing. I came in with rough feet, it had been a little while since I have gone for a pedicure. Getting out even for an hour when you have a new baby at home is sometimes impossible. But I left with baby smooth feet and perfect nail polish. I'm so glad I found this little gem in Marin. First off they offer the best prices around. The best. Second they are kind and welcoming. As women know sometimes getting your nails done can mean a slight language barrier which can make it just a little more difficult to connect on a personal level. Sonny was so personable! He told us funny stories and made sure we enjoyed our time there. They both made mine and my mothers nails look perfect and I will be making this a regular thing. Oh my god. If I could give this place zero stars I would. I purchased a Groupon. Apparently, the owner (I don't know his name) hates customers who use Groupon and YELLED at me in front of his other customers in the shop. When I scheduled my appointment, the employee only told me that their policy was that they do not take checks. When I was finished with my session I took out my Groupon app and all hell broke loose. That's when the owner yelled at me and said "I wouldn't have scheduled you if I had known you had a Groupon." I didn't expect to be pampered here just wanted to get in and out but my last experience here was awful. The lady who did my pedicure did not shape the nails whatsoever and did not clean the cuticles which I'm glad she didn't because I realized NONE of the tools were sanitized. This place is absolutely filthy. Also the nail gel color did not match the toes at all like I was told it would. She also put white a few layers on without letting them dry or putting a fan to them after, at the end i was told they were dry...but they didn't dry and hours later by the time I went to bed they still weren't dry! Will be taking it off and repainting myself. Just bad quality polish in general.I hate the color and would never pick this but was told it "matched the gel". My gel manicure was really disappointing, uneven nails and uneven paint job, the polish was translucent and needed some type of basecoat. The nails were filed crooked too. Worst part: When I tried voicing my concerns they didn't care, I paid and left and will never return. Update: the first time I went was great and this review was on the second time I went. I went back one more time to see how it was and it was fantastic. I think the previous time was just a bad day. Sonny took every care possible for my nails and everything was very sanitary. He listened to what I wanted and recommended what he thought was best. Bayview salon is by far my favorite nail salon. They are on point and give me fantastic manicures and pedicures. Sonny is fantastic and artful in transitioning fake nails to natural nails, and is meticulous and excellent in his manicures. Nina consistently gives long lasting and relaxing pedicures, and does a great job shaping eyebrows. The salon is comfortable, has a great selection of colors and shimmering nail decorations, and is conveniently located. Bayview salon is the only salon I got to for my manicures and pedicures because they consistently do a great job. The lady that did my pedicure was nice and did an awesome job with scrubbing and making my callous smooth. The gel manicure was done by the owner, he is very nice and takes pride in his work. He put at least three coats of the color polish so it would last he said. At the end, I was given a card to come back for the same GROUPON price which is a steal! If you're looking for pampering with tea and luxurious massage, this is not the place for you. This is a no frills, experienced technicians (owner husband and wife team) nail service who are honest and very humble nice people. PARONYCHIA ALERT! After a few years of gorgeous nails and ignoring the reviews that chided Bayview Nail Salon for not being a very clean nail salon and for not sterilizing their nail utensils, this finally happened to me. A few weeks ago, I had my unusual mani pedi with the owner and felt something strange when he was pushing back the cuticle of my right hand. FOUR DAYS LATER , MY THUMB BEGAN TO THROB AND SWELL and REDDEN. A DAY LATER My doctor prescribed oral antibiotics. BUT THE NEXT MORNING, A WEEK EXACTLY After the manicure, I HAD TO GO TO the EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT at Marin General Hospital. I had to have IV Antibiotics and my Finger had to cut open around part of the nail bed with a scalpel to let the pus of the infection out! This infection is called PARONYCHIA! Dr Duffy , the ER on duty said that he has seen this before when the nail bed is injured with unsterile tools. The only way to cure this kind of nail infection from an unclean salon that does not sterilize between clients is to open the finger, treat with hot soaks with antimicrobial ingredients and to continue taking antibiotics. As this takes two weeks to recover from at best, I am still suffering. I got the report of the three pathogens in the pus from my nail and one of them was a strain of pneumonia resistant to penicillin. No matter how gorgeous my nails looked from the "magic powder" the fact that I was dipping my nail in a container that had probably been used on the client before me and then after me without discarding the powder, will never happen to me again. I am never going back to Bayview salon and I suggest that you do not either. When I am well enough to have my nails done elsewhere, I will ask to see the sterilizer for the instruments and the disinfectants used to clean after each client. And I will be more vigilant from now on telling others so that this does not happen to them. read more

Like a few other recent customers here, I had a similar, AWFUL experience. And I'm bummed because I am looking for a new place to get my nails done that is close to home - this is only blocks - but NO WAY!! I went twice. First visit I got the gel mani and "spa" pedicure which entailed awkward hot stones rolled around my ankles, nails cut so short and trimmed so aggressively they bled and I winced with pain throughout. I ended up with scabs and the pedicure was very poorly painted - a few edges missed entirely and it only lasted a few days before it was chipping - usually they last until they simply grow out, about 3 weeks. The manicure was done at the same time. He did not paint to the full edge of the nail - instead, made an oval shape so they looked grown out a few days later. Polish also peeled and cracked within a week. And the light you have to put your hands under to set gave my pale skin a sunburn-like sting and redness - so OUCH all around. The man was very nice though and gave me a coupon to come back once I needed them redone. So, a couple weeks later I called to make an appointment, explaining I didn't like the gel and the painful experience with the botched pedicure, so she told me to come in at 5 for a discounted regular mani-pedi. I showed up 10 minutes early, happy to pick out fun new colors so I said hello to the woman in front and started toward the colors and her "welcome" was a big scowl and muttering something about they are too busy. I explained I had an appt. and she again muttered that 5 won't work (because they had allowed too many walk-ins). All of the staff looked miserable and annoyed with me - NO smile, welcome, sorry, anything. So I said I at least needed them to remove the gel polish from my fingernails and won't get what I had scheduled. The man was very cold this time - although a ray of sunshine compared to the woman I presume is his wife/an owner. He removed my polish then pointed me over to get a pedicure... and I am pretty sure the water had not been changed. I said, no, I don't want to bother them and will not get anything else done. He said he hoped I'd try to come back again and did not charge me anything, thank goodness, but I will definitely never return to this miserable, painful salon. No deal is worth going here so don't buy any of the many coupons out there!! read more

One of the sad things in life is that people feel much more motivated to complain, when they're not happy, than praise, when they are. I was very happy with the mania-pedi I had at this very moderately-priced salon - and my friend loved the frosting they did on her long hair. What the salon lacks in "chic" it more than makes up for with spaciousness, graciousness, and a staff that works very hard to please. The manicurist did great job and painted a really cute design on one nail of each hand (exactly what I wanted) and the same on my toes (which looked great for at least two weeks). The brow waxing is, hands down, the best I've ever had - anywhere - including Paris, London and Milan. I know some people have had bad experiences here. But that can probably be said of virtually every salon in the world. My own experience was just the opposite. And there's one thing nobody could dispute: the prices are very, very reasonable. I paid under $100 for a manicure, pedicure and wax - including tips for the three people who worked on me. Fungus! Plus additional hard residue left from the gel stuff that he didn't want to take time to remove if his drill wouldn't remove it. But my nail got too thin and too hot from the drill so he preferred to just keep painting over it. Then the fungus came. It took months to grow out...The gel clear substance was harder than my nail so as my nails grew they kept breaking below the quick until that stuff grew all the way out. The guy refused to clean under my nail when I got dirt under the nail from gardening. It didn't show once polished but I knew it was there and was concerned. Unfortunalty I gave and after I asked him to please clean it 3X's, but he didn't want to and kept telling me it was ok. Well, it was NOT OK. The result was disaster and many months of discomfort as the result of 3 repeated manicures from him. They were nice, socialable people and the place is average. No problem there. He gave a pretty looking manicures like many do. But the refusal to attend to cleanliness ... and other short-cuts...created a nightmare for me. read more

I meant to give them five and a half stars. I was extremely satisfied with them on every level except for the ambiance could use a little work and there is a little bit of waiting. Don't get me wrong, they are fine right now. But if they decide to renovate the salon, I would be there every week. The guy who help me out (Sonny) took really good care of my nails. All their tools were sanitized and clean. They have massage chairs for you while you soak your feet. They use acetone free products to remove nail polish. They are very knowledgeable about what kind of nails i should do. Everyone was super friendly and they made me feel comfortable. Nina and Sonny moved Nina's Nails from Novato to this fabulous new nail salon in Sausalito. I agree they both deserve more than 5 stars!!! I've been going to them for over 8 years following them wherever they go - they are both that good! I don't like pain and Sonny is so gentle. Plus he has a new technique for silk fills that lasts for three or four weeks before I need a touch-up - and I'm hard on my nails. This new location is light, airy and beautifully equipped with new state of the art pedicure chairs that vibrate your back while Nina does a wonderful pedicure. These lovely ladies know how to create a calming mood, especially if the rain is dumping down and you looked like a drowned rat. The drowned rat part, not so much but if I am in need of a rainy day fix and am in the Sausalito area I have found the perfect place for a pedicure. I of course being the blonde that I am took down the time wrong for the appointment and thought it was for a half an hour past the actual time and was driving when all of the sudden it hit me. Um hi, you really do have an appointment in T-Minus 5 minutes. I quickly called and told the friendly voice on the phone who I migh add was very accommodating and let me stroll in a few minutes late. Thank god I wasn't too far but even so, there was only one other person getting her nails done so it really wasn't a big deal. I am not big on the whole massage chair...I'm ticklish and a little squirmish when it comes to them...but I lurv the foot soaks. Absolute bliss, and the fact that it was so quiet my little footsies got a little extra time to soften up! Fabulous selection of colors on the wall, turns out this is a full fledged salon from hair cuts to waxing so if you're in the area give them a shot. I love BONG! I have not had my nails done in years and I brought my mum in for a mani pedi, and I have been coming back ever since. I love the Shellack nails and my nails stay strong and lovely. I love the fact that I live across the road so its super close but also that they always fit me in. She works 7 days a week, not just there but is always so pleasant and happy. She seems to really enjoy her work. I like that about her. I love the closed packaged nail implements they open for each customer. I have no worries of contamination or fungal infections.
