Love Experience Salon and Aveli. Aveli has been cutting and coloring my hair for the past ten years and I have always been happy with the results. It was great when she moved to Experience Salon several years ago. It was closer for me but the terrific thing is the vibe at the salon, friendly and warm. You can tell the relationships are more than working relationships. Aveli has been great to accommodate my schedule. And she lets me know when my ideas for a new style may not be the best choice. Sadly, Ron left to go to Milvali Salon. I've followed him there and he continues to be a master of his craft. I don't like the vibe at Milvali as much as Experience and I don't like to drive all the way in to downtown Mill Valley (especially compared to my walk to Experience). But Ron is worth it! I still like to go to Experience for manis/pedis with Judy though. And although I haven't been for a facial in a long time, I would still recommend Camille for a feel-good, organic treat. read more

I am very happy with Olga at Experience Salon. I live in the area and my hair was dry and very frizzy. Olga gave me an excellent Keratin treatment and she was so meticulous. My hair is now silky and smooth and I am so impressed with the results. I get so many compliments on my shiny and soft hair. Olga also does an excellent job cutting my hair and I look and feel great. I made a same-day appointment, scheduled a few hours out. When I arrived, my stylist was not there. 10 minutes late, she calls saying she is stuck in traffic in Mill Valley, and isn't sure when she will arrive. Another stylist took me on. Despite my hair flopping to its part naturally, she couldn't seem to find it. Parted it wrong (even after I corrected her) and was confused about why longer hairs were on one side. She pretty much did a straight chop (normally these days the stylists I've seen use the "chipping" technique). She spent about 5 minutes cutting my hair, didn't clean up my neck, dried my hair, applied some product, and called it a day. $75 for that? No thank you. read more

Jone Stebbins is THE BEST hairstylist EVER! She's been doing my cut, highlights, and base for years and she's the ONLY person I trust with my hair. She can do anything you come up with either by explaining a style to her verbally or bringing in a pic she gets it right every time. I always look forward to my visits! I also followed Ron Abansado from Mill Valley to Experience Salon over 6 years ago. Ron has been styling hair for over 16 years, and brings professionalism and wizardry to his business. First of all, it's easy to make an appointment with him. He works hard to accommodate you on your preferred date and time, even if you call at the last minute, which I usually do. He generally calls back within an hour or two, so you don't have to wonder when your appointment will be. He listens carefully to what you want, makes suggestions, and then checks in with you to make sure you are happy with the result, even as your hair cut is unfolding. He's always pleasant, never seems rushed, even if he has people waiting for him. He's as much an advisor as he is a stylist, and I really appreciate him for that. Experience Salon is a friendly and welcoming place. It's comfortable, and they serve an assortment of pleasant beverages while you wait for your appointment. Parking is easy in downtown Sausalito, even after the Police Dept built their shrine next door. It has a "spa-like" atmosphere, and I feel like I'm on a mini-vacation when I go there. read more

Decided to give a local hair salon a try. Talked to owner Melodie about coloring my roots. I said it was important that the color blended well with the rest of my hair. Melodie first showed me artifical hair color samples and tried to match with my hair. I told her that the lighting was bad and I would trust her judgement since she was the professional. That was late yesterday. This morning I looked at my hair and saw that my roots in some places were very dark brown with a definate line where she colored. My hair is medium brown with highlights. I went into the salon this morning and talked to Melodie. She blamed me for picking the color and said that she could color the tips of my hair to match the roots (very dark brown). I said absolutely not. She said "then what do you want me to do". I said you're the professional and that's why I'm here. She said next time she'd use a lighter color. I told her she would never see me again. Please save your money because she is not cheap and you could wind up very disappointed with the lack of quality of her work and customer service after a bad dye job. read more

Awful experience. Three friends booked for cut and color during a trip to SF. Confirmed appointment three times several days before. Walked in and instead of three appointments as scheduled, they offered us one stylist over a 6 hour period. Instead of apologizing for messing up the reservation, they tried to make us feel bad for being frustrated with not being happy about the situation. Found another salon nearby that was happy to take our business. Good businesses succeed and bad businesses fail. Experience Salon is a bad business that is clearly failing. read more

Judy has the unenviable task of dealing with my toes and she always does a fantastic job. She's also the only manicurist I've been to where you get your own bag of disposable tools and everything is utterly pristine. The salon always seems sunny even on gray days, and Judy's station is right in the front window so you get to watch all the small-town doings on Caledonia, which makes for a warm-and-fuzzy experience. read more

I use to be a regular here some time ago before my stylist moved elsewhere. Booked an appointment recently...what a huge mistake. Space cadet on the phone logged my appointment for the wrong day. Staff couldn't care less about their mistake, in fact, were curt to point of obnoxious because I was upset about the error and left stranded without a much-needed haircut. This place has bad ju-ju. Loud, disorganized, cold and unfriendly. There are better alternatives in Southern Marin. read more
