This was a great paddle out to the caves near Meyers Beach. Abby and her associate were very professional and provided all the necessary safety precautions and kayaking techniques. I've kayaked AK, HI and the San Juans (WA) and this was the best! It's a very short bus ride to Meyers Beach so you don't waste a lot of time getting on the water. As a side note, I later learned from another type of boat tour on Madeline Island that there are a few pretenders in the kayak tour business but Lost Creek is considered by locals to be one of the best!! read more

We did the half-day sea cave tour and it was really cool! Our guides, Paul and Tony, were great! Super friendly and knowledgeable about the caves and the area in general and very safety conscious. If you are used to only paddling rivers, and lakes that are not Lake Superior, be ready for a workout. If you don't kayak a lot, I'd recommend the half day option. It was a great day! Such a great day! We did the 8 mile paddle and enjoyed such a peaceful, beautiful adventure, seeing 4 bald eagles, learning about the geology of the area and Ojibwe traditions/history in the area. I went recently on an overnight kayaking trip with my two sisters - joining six other visitors, and led by two guides, Maddie and Karalyn. My experience level is kayaking a few times a year on lakes primarily, though I have done ocean harbors and coves also. Our group included some with more and less experience than that. The guides ask for your input ahead of time on what experience you are looking for, and dietary restrictions, which is great. Based on the weather forecast, our guide recommended we consider tandem kayaks. We normally prefer single kayaks but took the advice and were so glad we did as it absolutely helped in powering through the wind and waves of Lake Superior (and the presence of the rudder meant a relatively low amount of coordination required between the two paddlers). The Lost Creek team also quickly acted to put together a plan B when our initial trip to Sand Island was nixed due to a small craft advisory. We ended up going to Basswood island instead. I appreciated the water exit training we did before the trip. The food provided throughout was excellent. Our sights included a seastack, an arch, and a shipwreck. Most of all, the guides ensured we had a fun, safe adventure! read more

Had a fabulous group overnight adventure with Maddy and Charlie who were wonderful. They were definitely safety and comfort-oriented and talked about our fears etc. beforehand. Very knowledgeable, encouraging, and flexible also. The food was excellent even considering multiple dietary restrictions among us. I don't normally leave reviews, but this is the worst company I have ever dealt with. Made a reservation online. On their website it says if your 12 years old and 100lbs you are able to do the half day trip. We own multiple kayaks and my son has kayaked many rivers and lakes in Minnesota. We get phone call the next day and they recommend a different trip. My wife explains that she will consider it but that she will call them back if she decides to cancel the outing. I was standing next to my wife when they called. She specifically said do not cancel our reservation. The next day we receive an email telling us our reservation had been cancelled. I call numerous times over 2 days to find out why they cancelled it and no one answers. Five minutes after I call, I used a different phone number and they immediately pick up (I had even left a message) They were avoiding my calls. All other kayaking companies are now full. I can see why they were the only ones available. BUYER BEWARE. They might randomly cancel your reservation and not answer the phone, only to leave you on the hook for a $400 hotel stay you no longer need. read more

Our guides from Lost Creek Adventures (Graham and Ian) enhanced the experience. Kayaking on Superior can be dangerous, but the competence and experience of our guides gave us confidence. The guides saw to our safety and welfare. In addition, they taught us about the natural history of the area. The friendly tone they set created a fun group dynamic. We'll be back! My husband and I took the safety course before kayaking to our campsite on Sand Island. Hayden was our instructor and did a really great job of explaining how to use our equipment and judge how weather conditions will impact the water. He gave us many different resources to stay updated on weather/water conditions and gave us suggestions for our kayaking route out to the island and back the following day. Before heading back to the mainland we checked the water conditions and saw the wind speed would be picking up in the afternoon. We had originally scheduled our pick up for 2PM but because of the forecast we decided to head back early for safety reasons. Ellie was able to squeeze in a ride to pick us up earlier than expected! This was a fabulous half-day kayak trip! Michael was a wonderful instructor, and we had a great time for a really great price! Beautiful trip! My one complaint is they they expected us to carry a triple kayak (which was incredibly heavy) down a large flight of stairs and then walk down the beach 100 yards. The expectation should be that the company has everything ready to go and this type of labor shouldn't be something people paying for this experience should have to do. We had a great trip and we're lucky with the weather that day. The wind and waves picked up at the end of our tour and the guides led us safely and swiftly back in. The 2.5 hr trip was plenty with a group and long enough to see the caves. If you want to hang out after and walk the trails or swim at the beach then you'll want to drive separately after meeting up at their office site. Our guides Mike and River were great. I've seen bad reviews regarding carrying your own kayak. I'm sure they greatly appreciate the help carrying the kayaks down to the beach but it's definitely not required. Many stayed back and others like my 22 yr old athlete children were more than happy and were physically able to help. read more

My gf and I had a great time kayaking with LCA. We did a half day Apostle Island Sea Cave Tour and we loved it. Our tour was in the evening and the setting sun brought out the colors of the sea caves. Definitely recommend the later tour to anyone that is into pictures and a romantic evening. The kayaks, paddles, sea skirts, and life vest were in good condition. We had two tour guides and they were knowledgeable and friendly. They offer a dry bag to put your valuables in. You can bring your cellphone at your own risk! Might be worth the instagram post. I would recommend LCA to anyone interested in kayaking around the sea caves. read more

All of the staff were really friendly and helpful! We had a big group of 16 and they were able to accommodate us. Everything was very smooth, from booking to getting the rental and returning the rentals. They also offered dry bags as many of the people in my party fail to bring one. I rented a sea kayak from this company. The equipment was as expected, but the staff and customer service were literally the worst I have experienced at any business in my life. They knowingly sent me girlfriend and I off into unsafe, unpleasant and basically traumatizing conditions because they wanted our money. They refused to show any semblance of caring or customer service to us, or even apologize for their greed. The owner of this company is evil and I wouldn't wish the experience we had upon my enemies. People running a company like this makes me hope that karma exists. Please do yourself a favor: head east to the other kayak rental companies and save yourself the risk. read more

As we sit and look upon the choppy Lake Superior waters, we are frustrated by lost creek. We stayed in Pattison State park and made the 1hr 20 min drive up to do our sea kayaking today. We walk in the door at 12:30 for our 1pm trip to hear the lady on the phone talking to a different customer saying they have been calling people since 8am canceling all of the trips for the day.... and then of course she tries to have them book a different day.... I understand they need to cancel trips but they have our phone number, have our email from when we electronically signed our lives away to take the trip, and yet they sent no text message or email about trips being in question or canceled. My theory is they call everyone so they can rebook and keep the money flowing in... with no concern for people like us that this takes 3 hours out our vacation just in travel time and wastes a half day of our vacation... I did bring my feedback up in the office and was just met with a blank stare. Keep our experience in mind and if you do a trip with them plan it early in your vacation to allow time for a reschedule and CALL before you come if you are driving any distance. read more

My cousin and I did the Apostle Island Sea Caves Exploration - Half Day on 09/14/17 & I am so glad we did! We stayed in Duluth and my parents had done the same package about a year ago and raved about it. It's only about an 1 hour and 20ish minutes from Duluth. I had never tried kayaking prior to this experience and my cousin had only kayaked in a man-made lake once. Our tour guide, Jeff, did a quick and thorough demonstration and was patient when we asked questions. The water was choppy and, due to our inexperience, the choppy waves made us slower than the other two people on the same tour. However, Jeff was great! He made us feel comfortable while we struggled and gave us tips along the way. He had great knowledge of the caves and Lake Superior in general. I was very grateful that Jeff took our safety seriously and inspected the caves before letting us go in them - since the waves were so choppy he explained that sometimes it isn't safe to explore the inside. Luckily for us, none of the caves were off limits. I think it speaks volumes when a small business makes their employees feel empowered to make executive decisions when it comes to the safety of the customer and the guides. I am still wowed by my experience! read more

Great customer service! We got messed up by an unreliable ferry schedule to Madeline Island. Even the updated Covid schedule is wrong!!! Even though we couldn't make our tour without being stranded on the mainland away from our campsite, they let us at least take the kayaks out for fun on the bay. I can't be sure they'll do this everytime, but I could tell even scheduled tours through here would be fantastic. Everyone was great help and knowledgeable. read more

Took the sea cave tour and it was wonderful! We had a full group with 2 guides. They did an excellent job of leading and handling so many different skill levels. They were very professional and patient with answering all questions and helping everyone. The caves are amazing to see up close and be able to explore. My family and I had an incredible time with Alec and Dale on the Half Day Apostle Islands Sea Cave tour! We had a wide variety of experience levels in the group and the trip accommodated us all. The views of the caves were outstanding, booking was easy, and Alec had some truly stellar dad jokes. The Lost Creek team was also very helpful when we mentioned that a member of our group had some health issues that impacted his endurance -- they were able to put him in a triple kayak rather than a double to ensure he could participate fully without getting worn out. My husband and I didn't book ahead, rather we checked for availability once we got to town. Another outfitter recommended we check LCA as their tours were full. We booked the Roman Sea Caves tour as that was the only one with availability, however, our tour was cancelled due to high winds and small craft advisories. They were super accommodating with rescheduling us for the next day, and even opened up another half day sea caves tour and put us on that. This was a phenomenal tour. We grew up in and on Lake Superior but had never seen the caves up close. Great customer service in the office and our guides Cali and Matthew were patient, knowledgeable and helpful. I went on a 3 hour trip last weekend with my sister and cousin. It was an overcast, misty day but we were still able to go out. The guides, Seth and Kelly, were excellent. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT BOOK HERE!!!!!! We booked a 9am kayak trip with them to the sea caves for my birthday. The entire reason for this trip was the kayak the sea caves. We get here at 9am and they tell us they had a scheduling conflict and didn't have a guide so they had to cancel our tour smh. Didn't offer to reschedule us or NOTHING! Just said my bad sorry and didn't give a shit that they completely ruined our trip. Since it's so last minute, we couldn't get in with a different local company. We're so upset. They didn't even have the decency to call us ahead of time to let us know. We also called them SEVERAL TIMES before 9am and of course nobody picked up the phone either lol. They seriously did not care. We drove 7 hours for this bullshit. Worst company ever!!!!!!!!! Trust me and book somewhere else so this doesn't happen to you!!!!!!!!!! And I'm response to Greg's reply response below. No they DID NOT offer us kayaks to go alone. Which we wouldn't have wanted to do anyways since the person coming with has never kayaked before. And they offered to reschedule us for a later date. We are not from here and drove 7 hours specifically to kayak the sea caves!!!!! Sorry we can't just drive back on Friday ....We leave in the morning and we expressed that. If this is a "rare occurance", you should've allowed us on the 9:40am trip. Went on a 430 paddle to the sea caves yesterday. Ben was our guide, nice guy, first year leading trips. As often happens on Lake Superior, a storm blew in just as we approached the caves. Ben had to make the difficult (right) decision to turn back. As we paddled back, the storm intensified and I was happy to be heading in, not out. This outfitter takes things seriously - good equipment, solid preparation. I will definitely seek them out again! read more

Out guides were Nick and Mitch, and they were extremely friendly, helpful, and knew a lot about the region, rock formations, and kayaking in general. They were also very safety conscious, letting us know when boats or other kayakers were around. I felt that they were guiding us without micromanaging where we went. We had such a fantastic time with lost creek adventures. Our guide's name was mark who was excellent! Mark was extremely knowledgeable about the area as well as about kayaking and he even snapped some pictures of us in action and emailed them to us when we were done which was a plus! We did the half day trip starting at 8am which I highly recommend as there wasn't much traffic and weather was pleasant. The trip lasted approximately 3-3.5 hrs round trip. I would definitely do another trip but maybe full day next time with lost creek, I highly recommend! read more

My husband and I went on a half day sea caves tour and we can't recommend Lost Creek enough! The staff was professional, helpful, kind and knowledgeable. I was particularly nervous about doing this because I'm not in great shape and had never gone sea kayaking before - but it was wonderful. The equipment was in excellent condition, we were given safety instruction and a short kayaking lesson. All kayaks were tandem and skirted - keeping you paired, dry and comfortable for the duration of the adventure. The sea caves and cliffs were beautiful, and we spent just enough time at each place to take photos and explore. We highly recommend this outfitter. read more
