So we have PPO Baylor n Scott insurance doctors are ok but like I've read here by others they do not cover any referrals to anything serious I need to see a neurologist for testing I also had liver specialist say I need testing as well a ultrasound and I get a message on portal that I I Need to pay over 1,000.00 for testing the ultra sound was 500$ what in the hell do I pay for a PPO insurance if it only covers seeing doctor only and no specialists if I have an issue this is the spray insurance company I've ever done business with I truly want to cancel them as this is nonsense you pay for PPO you get nothing I'd get a different insurance if I were anyone considering Baylor n Scott don't do it you will regret it.. BSW Health Rep refuse to allow my insulin to be given to due cost! I pay for 5 pens the Walgreens refuse due to BSW guide. They charge me $35 for 4 pens where I receive 5 and if request the 5th pen I would have to pay another $35 fir one pen. Called and spoke with a pharmacy rep and she also refused to acknowledge my situation, refuse to over ride in order for me to receive one pen I payed for. I know nothing will come of this complaint or review but come enrollment in Nov I will voice my concerns by NOT using BSW Health Plan ever again. I'm not saying you'll get a human after 45 minutes. That is the longest I have ever lasted on hold. The whole thing is a joke. Only problems for the last 5+ years. I recently tried to cancel and have spent over 8 hours on hold. Many times being disconnected after over an hour. This is unacceptable. I gave up and decided to send a FedEx letter so I would have proof of my cancelation. I'm still being sent invoices so I will return them with the letter and proof of delivery/signature. I am doing this because I asked for a response and they haven't given me the courtesy. This is so strange. The portal is terrible. Customer service is nonexistent. Exactly what everyone else has said - BSW INSURANCE SUCKS!!!!!!! They send you through a phone maze like a rat, hoping you'll get lost and give up. If you happen to get through, you have to wait literally months to see a doctor half the time. And then, over half the time you see the doctor there's a mistake (probably because their docs are overworked, too, because they won't hire more?), and you can't just call the doctor directly - YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH THEIR SWITCHBOARD. UGGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!! It literally takes DAYS to get any answer. So you try to use their online portal - NOPE. It's just as bad!! It even sent me an automatic message about test results for a biopsy I had, scaring the crap out of me as I braced myself bor bad news and opened the message, only to see an empty message. ARRRGGHH!!!!! And even though your insurance says something is covered, they'll still send you a bill. I had a colonoscopy recently and THEY SENT ME A $600 BILL THE NIGHT BEFORE!!! How CRUEL is that? I'm already worried about having to be knocked out and that they'll find cancer, and they do that?! When they could have done it any other day in the month since I'd had the procedure scheduled?!?! And they just did it again - physical therapy tomorrow and I get a bill tonight. *sigh* So I call and they say if I don't find a way to pay it, I can't have my apointment. So they say to come in before my appointment and talk to a "financial services" person or some such to see if there are alternatives. So I have to drive all the way there and meet with someone before I get the appointment TO FIND OUT IF I CAN HAVE THE APPOINTMENT. When I first signed up and tried to get help, the people on the phone were so surly and rude I was literally in tears. I have just become a member of BSW Health Plan. My first impression is that it sucks. Its welcome letter directed me to their web site to create an account so that I can pick a doctor. But after numerous numerous attempts, their web site just does not allow me to create an account. (see attached screen shot) Go to a nearby clinic to set up an account? That's a joke. It then asked me what specialty of care I needed. I called their customer service 855-572-7238 and waited for 24 minutes before the rep picked up the phone. And once she learned what happened, she said whenever one gets that error message, one needs to talk to their IT Dept. And she transferred me to IT, what I got was a message saying it was Cisco Messaging System and the operator was not unavailable and asked me to leave a message. Apparently I am not the only one who has not been able to create an account just to find a doctor. Update: After I filled out the form at https://www.bswhealthplan.com/Pages/Contact-Request.aspx and Jennifer, Digital Communications Analyst, Customer Advocacy asked me my info anmd etc, she responded : " If you are trying to register and start your MyBswhealth portal you will need an activation code. That can either be given by your PCP's office at the time of a visit or you will need to contact BSWH support. The health plan customer service cannot generate activation codes for the portal. If you are continuing to experience trouble with your MyBSWHealth account, please reach out to the BSWH Support Center by calling 855-691-0180 and a member of their team will be able to further assist you. " My response is "Please put it on record that I am very dissatisfied with BSW's handling of this matter.  BSW employees are very incompetent.  If an activation code is required, why didn't BSW send it with the membership card?  The welcome letter simply says "you can find the answers to most of your questions through our members portal at MyBSWHealth.com ...." No mention of any activation code whatsoever.  The web site does ask me whether I have an activation code - Yes or No.  I clicked No.  Then it proceeds to ask me for my phone phone and send me a link via text.  I clicked it and got the "We're sorry" error message.  It fails to say I need to call for an activation code.  And I need to access my portal in order to find a doctor.  So how can I go to my PCP's office to get such a code if BSW does not allow me to find my PCP?  And the customer service at 855-572-7238 was unable to help and now with much ado you directed me to another number  855-691-0180?  Don't you think that BSW are indeed very incompetent?" My wife and I signed up for Baylor Scott and White health insurance through the marketplace on May 3rd. The insurance was supposed to go into effect on June 1st. By June, we had not gotten if cards so we called in to see what was going on. We were told several different stories by numerous people including that our payment we made was for May and not June. We had the paperwork printed out showing the effective date was June 1st. The customer service rep told is that was wrong. We were then told it was for June, but they hadn't received a formal back from us. We asked how the form was sent and we were told it was never sent. Both my wife and I have spent over 20 hours on the phone with BSW these last 2 weeks and gotten nowhere. We thought we were getting somewhere when Megan V. Said she was helping and would call us back, but never did. All of the reps say they will call you back within 24 hours, but none ever do. That is just a way for them to get rid of you. BSW insurance is a scam. Stay away from them. I have requested a refund, however I am skeptical that I will actually get it so I have also alerted my bank to fraud on my account from them. read more

I've had health insurance coverage from different companies for over 30 years and I am currently 52. I live near Dallas Texas. I purchased a premium hmo Baylor Scott and White health plan at 736 dollars per month on Healthcare dot gov website since I need private insurance. I assumed it would be an ok health insurance company since I was paying so much per month, but oh was I so wrong. This company should be taken over my the Texas government. When you call customer service an automated system tells you that due to high call volume use your portal to ask questions. But on the portal you can only contact your doctor. I have called dozens of times and the same messages always. No live customer service agents to talk to on the phone. I had a rare type of stroke CVST two weeks ago and I still have no appointments to see any specialists. Even after calling my primary care office many times and contacting the specialists that I was referred to I have no appointments other than with the primary doctor. It has been two week and I am getting nowhere. Let's talk about billing. Often when you call the automated system the call drops even on multiple phones. On my portal it says I owe nothing. But when I do get thru to the automated billing they say I owe a lot of money. I payed the bill, but I get letters from the insurance company saying I am delinquent on payment. The online portal for the insurance company app says I have no balance due. I cannot speak to anyone in customer service for billing so how do I actually know what I owe. It has been the most stressful experience I've ever had to endure. After having a stroke this is what I have to go through because I chose the wrong health insurance company. I'm now trying to get someone at heathcare dot gov to let me change my health insurance plan to a company that has customer service personnel who answer calls and help customers. For the sake and health of your family, do not get a BSW health plan. It looks great on paper, yet personally I think this company should not offer health insurance. They will take your money, yet not have enough doctors to see on teh HMO plan. They will tell you they have no control over this. Then let us out of the plan or make exceptions. We have tried to get a doctor for myself, my wife and daughter and we are told the earliest appointment is 3 months away. Or we are told they are not taking any new patients even though the insurance sign up says accepting new patients. My wife could not get life saving meds and same with me. My daughter needs to see a doctor for ongoing issues. They will happily tell you to go to a walk in. Well they cant treat ongoing issues. Emergency room can, but don't forget to pay the $1000 fee. These people will call you and help you with names of doctors only to find you must wait a long time. If you don't have enough doctors to cover your own patients, don't sign up any new patients on your health plan. Anyone have the same issue, let me know, perhaps a class action might be necessary. They take money for insurance, knowing they don't have doctors to see you in a reasonable time. Please let me know, I am seriously looking into class action against this company. read more

Ohhh please don't. This is by far the WORST healthcare plan you can have. They tell you it's good because they try to keep it within their system...What they don't tell you is that their system sucks completely. There is no communication. They refuse to do services your doctor is requesting. Scheduling is just a waste of time. I can't tell you how many appointments I had gone to, only to be turned back because they forgot to tell me of a cancellation or they didn't update things. It's full chaos and confusion. And it's all done on purpose, so that the insurance would not have to pay for your needed medical needs, but they would gladly collect the payments from you. Just don't. Baylor Scott & White healthcare is horrible. They make it difficult to make any appointments. Need a PCP? Be prepared to wait three months. Need a pediatrician? Be prepared for the people who make the appointments be incompetent. Need to see a doctor the same day? Make sure you have two hours to answer the same questions over and over to a non-medical worker because they can't just look up where has open appointments. Want to call any office or clinic directly? They do not allow that you're stuck with a call center who aren't that great at their job. I tried to make a pediatrician appointment three times. All times the call center messed up. I now have a non Baylor Scott & White pediatrician and it has been such an easy process, my kids are taken care of, and the front office staff is great. I tried to make a PCP appointment multiple times and all times the call center messed up. Somehow they made two accounts for me and kept cancelling and changing my appointments because they were confused. I called the call center asking if there were any walk in clinics because online it shows there are multiple walk in clinics, but they claim they have none and are unable to look up which locations have openings for this week. Absolute joke. The insurance is atrocious as well. It's expensive with limited options and poor coverage. read more

I am forced to call them with every prescription, because they make it hard to fill it or to make it cost more. Their phone jail system makes sure it is 10 minutes before you can get to a live person. Once, I had a prescription I had been taking for over a year and was up to 70 milligrams. Suddenly, no pharmacy had that strength, so I had to get the doctor to order the same pill in a 50 and a 20. I went several days, without any meds, while they waited for the required 'new prescription' and when I was finally able to pick it up, I had to pay a co-pay on each even though they were the same medication. I had even called a head of time to avoid this. Next, I went to a neurologist and he prescribed a drug for my symptoms and BSW made him jump through all kinds of hoops to explain why he chose that drug. That neuro made that decision based on years of experience and knowledge. He sent in the prescription on the same day as my appointment, but five days later the pharmacy still couldn't fill it because the paperwork the doctor had to answer (Justify) had to be sent back to BSW and THEY had to okay it and that, I was told, always takes two to three business days. Well, I ended up doing exactly what they hoped I would do. I paid for the meds myselt, just so I could get them before the weekend. I HATE this insurance and will be changing when my year is up. read more

Absolutely horrible. From customer service, providers, to the "patient relations" department. How is it possible to have a 30 day "standard of care" turnaround time to rectify a problem? Horrible!!!! LVNs act as gatekeepers so that you cannot speak with your providers, instead of passing the message along and allowing the provider to respond to you. Called the billing department since I have a credit on my account and they are sending me statements saying I owe them money, how is that possible? This is a review of the Austin BSW Austin provider network at different locations I visited. To be fair, most of their staff are courteous and professional, so I imagine some people have good experiences overall. Even so, they do need more customer service and courtesy training for some staff. One example was a medical assistant being unapologetic and even rude after I brought up objective errors on their office's' part. Regarding phones, as others say about BSW, you can't directly call their offices--you get a main switchboard 99.9% of the time. It's not as smooth as other setups out there. read more

I applied through healthcare.gov as soon as open enrolement started in 2022, by late Decemeber I still had no access to their payment portal and hadn't received a paper bill, so I called and could not get through to anyone to figure out how to pay my bill. In January I get my first bill from them and pay, they charged me for twice what my premium was supposed to be. I did not receive any reciept or confirmation of payment so I was nervous. I tried calling again to find out when I would have my member ID or access to my member portal, at this time I had an infected would and was trying to seek medical treatment but couldn't pay for a doctor without my insurance... I told them in multiple emails I urgently needed access to my member ID so I could print my ID card so I could see a doctor and got no responses there or over the phone after multiple hours on hold. I finally receive my ID card in the mail a couple weeks ago (I want to say it came in on 2/4/23? around that weekend) So Yesterday I print my ID card from the member portal and go to a Doctor, they're billing me later so they don't say anything about my insurance there, but then I go to the pharmacy to pick up the prescription I need they give me the error message "patient is not covered". Thinking maybe they made a typo I ask them to run my insurance again. Nothing. I go online and go to the chat only to be eventually told my plan was TERMINATED 1/1/2023, a week BEFORE they sent me the first bill. The bill says it was written 1/9/2023. Not once was I informed that my plan was terminated, and they still gladly accepted my payments despite me not having a plan with them! Now I am uninsured until march, and had to pay for this doctor visit and medication out of pocket, I could not afford this and thought I'd only be paying my copay because I was under the impression that having an ID card and paying my bills meant that I had health insurance only to find out I never even had the plan I was paying them for. read more

I have to be very honest, I am a local Austin independent business owner for over 30 years and have been a dedicated Scott and White Insured since the mid 1980's but since the recession have noticed a rapid increase in my health insurance premiums and a reduction in my medical care. I have noticed my primary care physicians have all left, my specialist physicians have all left Scott and white, and trying to find a new doctor or specialist is extremely difficult. It seems Scott and white is more concerned with making me pay there Co Pays rather than assisting me. I am frustrated and do not recommend anyone staying with nor signing up with Scott and white if you truly want them to help you as there apparant bottom line is the mighty dollar not the patient I highly recommend that you seriously research your options first. SWHP (TRS)...Paid a copay of $374 for simple neck ultrasound (NOthing special) only to learn I could have paid less for the 10 minute "procedure" out-of-pocket. This is one of many examples of SWHP/Baylor Scott & White negotiating ridiculous fees for services and then passing on the cost to their clientele while the company continues to break in profits. When you call cust serv, there is literally a prompt system that does not allow to you to speak to a live human being unless you think outside the box and press the "0" key numerous times. Why they hire and pay for these customer service "advocates" to sit at home and regurgitate the same out of date useless information found online to callers defies all logic. You will waste HOURS of your time just trying to find a doctor and when you do, you will have a very long wait to see them (weeks or months). My plan does not require referrals or authorization to see a specialist, however no doctor's office in the system will see you without a referral. Great perk /s. I have read numerous negative comments here and they are all absolutely spot on. The only positive is that I've met a couple of really great doctors during this year. As a Female Board Certified Pediatric - Adolescent Surgeon, caring for literally thousands of children in the course of 23-years in the DFW - was Denied by Scott & White Health Plan, as network is closed to new doctors. I ask the public (Mothers) to petition Scott & White to reconsider their position to be allowed to treat Scott & White Patients as I do with many other insurance plans. Many and I mean many Mothers prefer a Female Surgeon to provide care to their children over a Male Surgeon. Thanks to everyone who nominates me as their Provider of Choice. In all fairness I have to respond to my previous one-star rating with this one-star rating. After contacting the pharmaceutical company and the doctor and then petitioning BSW, they have relinquished and covered my wife's medication, so the price has gone from $658 to $197 monthly. In researching the BSW formulary I discovered that they now cover Solvaldi and Harvoni, both Hepatitis C medications with superb results, but with a minimum cost of $1000 per pill for a 12-week regimen or a total of $84,000 - I'm sure BSW gets it for less. So BSW covers that but we have to petition to be covered on a patch that costs approximately $21/patch full retail !!! Today I received at my office a notice that BSW was cancelling our covereage for non-payment. The letter was dated 1/11/2018 but the premium was charged to my credit card on 1/1/2018. Again, I was able to get to the bottom of it with a telephone call that took way too long. What is wrong with this organization? read more

Horrible insurance with a bunch of incompetent people working for them. Their provider list is very small and limited. They take forever to approve procedures and the prescription company they use is just as bad or worse. I have a friend in Canada that was dealing with the same issue I was, and they got treated and through rehab before I was even approved for a test to determine the course of treatment. So, all the talk of the long delays to get procedures with socialized medicine is BS. You call in and wait for hours to talk to someone and then they keep transferring you because they are all too stupid to do their jobs and nothing gets resolved because every time you call it is something different. I would be better off saving the insurance premium and use it to travel to other countries to get my medical procedures done and prescriptions. Beyond frustrated with this company. We signed up in December 2021 for this insurance for the 2022 coverage for both my husband and myself. Paid for both of us in December, January and February. Contacted their customer service department January 7 because we noticed it just shows my husband as covered and not myself. BSW website only shows my husband. Marketplace which we have gone through for this insurance says I am covered. They said they would resend the plan to BSW, and I should have coverage within two weeks. Called back again January 26 to check status with BSW, they called marketplace again got confirmation that I am covered and BSW said they would send urgent message to enrollment and should have something within two weeks. February 4, called again to check status agent from BSW couldn't find where we had talked to anyone on the 26th of January. Again, they told me they would send urgent message to enrollment. Contacted BSW today February 8 to talk to someone other than a customer rep only to be told to leave my name and number and someone would call me back. In the meantime I have paid through March only to have no insurance. Any advise on how to get this issue resolved. read more

SCAM ALERT!!! I should have read the other reviews before applying through the market place during open enrollment! Same results as poster Evi. in December I applied and was accepted and paid my premium through my bank. After never receiving an insurance card I tried to call the company and after a 2 hour on hold wait was informed they had no application for me. I called healthcare.gov and they assured me I was covered. called the company again and same story- they said no coverage so I asked why was my account drafted for $580 and they s they would get back with me in 24 hours. of course they never did. I called again 3 days later and still said no coverage even though I paid. Finally I went back to the healthcare.gov and cancelled my policy and got BCBS. Before doing this I tried one more time to call BSW and was on hold for 5 hours!! before I finally gave up and got the BCBS policy. this was on Jan 9th so BSW got $580 for a Jan policy they said I never had.
