LOL This is one of my fave places to stay in Louisiana. I grew up in the area & when I want to go home, this is where I want to go kick back. This area is very very special, there is tons of great food, antique stores & historic places you can visit & the coolest place to stay is here. If you are staying for a while, rent the whole cottage. It's beautiful. If your just staying for a few days, stay in the barn. The upstairs is perfect for 2 & it has a Jacuzzi tub. The views of the lake are breathtaking from the front balcony. I LOVE that there is a separate "party barn/cook shack" here that you can cook & hang out outside & take it all in. It's not a shack by any means, it's a very cool set up, a chefs dream outdoor kitchen. Stuff that Louisiana girls LOVE. It's 100 % Louisiana style ;) There are at least 10-12 old oaks draped in moss on the property that are over 200 years old that are registered with the State. Just like a picture perfect dream, flowering shrubs that perfume the air, puppies that greet you on arrival, children playing the the background.. I've dreamt in my life dreams that have stayed with me ever after, and changed my ideas: they've gone through and through me, like wine through water, and altered the color of my mind - Emily Bronte One of the most beautiful places in the world to me. This place is nothing short of stunning, and truly feels like a little piece of heaven. The decorations were rustic and perfectly matched what you'd expect in a simple country home. We stayed in the barn loft, and I was pleasantly surprised when the AC was more than able to keep up with the summer heat in southern Louisiana. The breakfast was simple but good, and much better than any you'll find in a hotel. The pond was beautiful and peaceful, and there were no noises except the sounds of nature (mostly cicadas chirping). I cannot recommend this place enough, and we will most definitely be coming back for future visits.

It's a former boarding house that has been turned into an incredibly quaint Bed and Breakfast, with seven rooms and one suite. Two porches and a lovely terrace overlook Bayou Teche and the famed Crawfish bridge (not edible). The owner, Mary Lynn, has a healthy dose of graciousness and kick-in-the-pants humor. She had biscuits and cookies ready for us everyday which we devoured! It's rare that you meet someone who goes out of their way to make sure you're happy and enjoying yourself. She drove us 45 minutes to one of her favorite places- The Blue Moon. We planned to stay one night and were so thrilled with what we had found that we decided to stay for three.

Orator Huey Long started his campaign for Governor just outside the door here, promising a better life for the poor, beginning his march toward the White House, his quest for power cut short by assassination. So, if poetry and history hold no meaning for you, then pass this place by, but, if you believe in the power of words and ideas, in English or French, long for times past, and have some iota of imagination, then come, stay. I know, I hate giving up hotel points but I really wanted something more of a residential feel, and with a kitchen and some room. I also love Lafayette and wanted a centrally located place since I wasn't just going to chill in my room and watch tv all night. Buchannan lofts met all my requirements...and then some! My loft had a full kitchen with a regular sized fridge and stove. The room was spacious with two beds. One bed was upstairs and a little more private, while the other was on the main flood and was only separated from the kitchen/living room by a curtain. There was a dining table, love seat, chair with foot stool, and desk. Even with all that furnature, the loft did not feel cramped. Exposed brick and exposed duct work / lighting added to that cool loft feel. The owner was very friendly and helpful. The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes and there is a dish washer. Some minor negatives are the fact that you have to walk a few flights of stairs to get to the lofts and there is no elevator. The room was clean, but did have some wear and tear. Nothing major but it was here and there, and give the impression that the loft wasn't as clean as it actually was. I also didn't like the towels in the bathroom or the shower. I'll probably bring my own towels next time and I would have had a stand up shower and not a shower with a tub. The tub isn't a soaking tub so was basically useless. The price seems to be a little on the high side for the area (but I am cheap so I could be wrong). At that price point I would like better towels, bed linens and to walk in and feel like the place is immaculate. While the location is great and close to some great restaurants downtown, during the week downtown is pretty dead....but that is not the lofts fault. My negatives are really nit-picking and overall the lofts are a great option for all types of travelers. I would definitely stay again if it is in the budget. Check them out when staying in Lafayette...you really will be glad you did!

When I arrived at 9:45 after driving a few hours with my pup, I called the after hours number on the door and was told nastily that they were away for the weekend-- when I explained my situation and asked why someone had booked us just hours before, I was told to "stop talking over her," that there was one person she could check with... and then she said "ya know what?" and hung up on me. A few minutes later, I got a call from another number, and a man told me he was another owner and asked how I was. When I told him not great and started explaining... I realized I was ON A THREE-WAY CALL when the woman burst on, cursed me out, and ended the call. These people are a reallll class act. And by class act, I mean I think they were held back in 6th grade and have been there ever since. Rude and crude!

Kolleen, The owner, a font of local history and information, gave us an enthusiastic welcome complete with wine, maps and local lore. She had the house relocated to her property in six pieces. It had one owner, previously, whose pictures and writing can be seen on the suite mantle. She also has some of the woman's lace dresses hanging in the wardrobe. The breakfast was eggs benedict, with some of the best hollandaise sauce I've ever had, and she even made a special crawdad sauce for me because I'd never had it before. We loved our stay here and if we ever come back through this way, we'll stay here again. Cozy, friendly and welcoming.

I let her plan it and I'm so glad I did because the moment I got out of the car at Bonne Terre, I knew it was exactly what I needed. We rented the studio, originally for four nights, but we were so cozy and comfy there that we ended up staying an extra day. The host, Jen, is so kind and welcoming and has thought of *everything* one might need: extra bedding, plenty of fluffy towels, an iron and a hair dryer, locally made soap, a bath robe, a washer/dryer, dishwasher along with plenty of dishes for cooking, spices (cleverly stored in the freezer), coffee and tea along with an assortment of sugars, records and their player, a beautiful antique piano, books, DVDs, and games that were all appropriate to the location... even a carton of fresh eggs from the hens and a bowl of ripe cherry tomatoes. The furnishings are charming, eclectic, and artistic, with many pieces collected from local artists--modern yet somehow timeless, and very homey. Everything was sparkling clean and so thoughtfully arranged that it made us want to leave it just as nice as we'd found it. We ate dinner on the porch that night and listened to the symphony of insects and frogs somewhere out in the trees. Some of them even hopped past us and took up residence on the screen door and windows. My favorite part were the lovely animals. We were taken on a farm tour, given more vegetables for our salad, and introduced to the many different breeds of chickens, a turkey, Sebastopol geese, a family of goats, a horse, a cow, and the adorable pair of ducks who'd hatched a duckling named Daffodil. This tiny duck and I became great friends as I was honored with the chance to hold her and visit with her each evening--which was probably the high point of this whole year! The farm is also situated in a pleasant area for an evening walk, down a charming country lane. Before we left, we were shown the other rental--a cottage at the front of the property, with an outdoor shower, a loft bed, a gorgeous porch, and all the same wonderful amenities as the studio. We are planning to return in September and if we do, I'd be more than happy with either accommodation. If you're looking for some peace and quiet or want to hit the pause button on the stressors of city life, don't hesitate to check out Bonne Terre. I'm sure you'll be just as enchanted as we were!

If you're a nature lover, an artist, an appreciator of Louisiana culture, or just someone looking to get away from the rat race for a few days, a week, or longer, you won't find a better place than Bonne Terre. It's amazing. Both the Main House and the Studio are full of everything you could want or need for your stay - cozy beds and much better equipped kitchens than I've ever seen in a rental, plus cool art, books and music. Jen is a wonderful hostess. You can check out the organic garden and meet the many animals on the farm, including horses, Matilda the cow, goats, rock star-looking Polish chickens, and more. Or you can just kick back and drink coffee on the porch as you take a pause and enjoy the beauty of the farm. I'm so looking forward to my next visit. It sits right on Bayou Amy and you can watch alligators swimming by from the porch. There aren't many outlets for you to plug your electronics in. They're mostly behind the bed. When we went to try to put the plug behind there, the headboard fell off of the wall. It was just barely hanging on this piece of cork board... The problem is that the walls are super thin. You can hear everything from the room next to you; everything they're saying and watching on the tv. So if you're unlucky and are next to people who stay up late...we'll you aren't sleeping. You can also here the music from the bands playing in the club next door. There are doors that attach the rooms, so I guess if you have a large party you can visit each other. When we left for the day, we didn't put the do not disturb sign on our door, but they still didn't come to make the beds. The free breakfast is just a couple of cereal options, coffee, orange juice and an assortment of packaged pastries you can choose from. The craziest thing about this place is the cats. The parking lot is completely crawling with cats, like 30 of them. Everyone tries to feed them so they stick around. They're very friendly and sweet, but be careful because they might try to follow you inside. It is convenient that there's a bar and a restaurant attached. There is a lot of construction right when you get off of the interstate, so be careful that you're GPS doesn't try to reroute you like it tried to do to us.

As I am closing this review, I have now been on hold for over 16 minutes. Finally, my call was answered. My question was answered but I had another question. Before I could ask the girl hung up the call. This call was made on Thursday, June 25, 2026 beginning at 12 noon.
