We are OBSESSED with the cabins! Lots of wildlife to appreciate, very friendly staff, and the location is perfect! Close to the city, right in town, but still in the country. We've been before and will definitely be back. The screens had holes and let in a lot of bugs but it's a form of camping and we loved all of God's creatures nonetheless. I do wish they had some form of souvenir but we took home great photos and countless memories. See you again soon! read more

I have been here twice now. Once for a fish fry put on for a local Veterans group and once for a Winter Lantern Festival. The last event I went to here was interrupted by the amount of mosquitoes wanting to suck my blood. You have to pay for admission to get in, at $5 which is inexpensive, but if you rent a picnic area, you also have to pay for that. It is nice though. read more

Taking into account our family's size, this was a great option for an affordable, safe place to stay on a trip to New Orleans. With taxes and fees, our three night (thurs-sun) stay came in at $555. Good luck finding a place that sleeps 8 for anything even remotely close to that in New Orleans. We found the accommodations to be adequate. Everything except the floor was clean upon arrival. All linens and towels are provided, as well as basic cooking equipment (coffee maker, cookie sheet, pots/pans, toaster, knives, plates, cups, etc.). There is a full sized fridge (with ice maker), oven, dishwasher, and microwave. There is even a small TV in the main living area. The best part is all the alligators!!! My kids were absolutely mesmerized by the alligators that circled our cabin. Not being from LA, we were hoping to see maybe one or two alligators during our stay, but from the minute we walked the bridge to the cabin there were multiple alligators present almost constantly. I imagine they have learned to wait around the cabins because of all the fishing, fish cleaning, and fish filleting that goes on at the cabins. The ladies fishing next to us didn't seem to find the alligators quite as pleasant as we did ;) The queen bed and bunk beds were comfortable enough. My poor boys who had to sleep on the pull out couch, though. ROUGH. By the last night they were debating sleeping on the hard floor. Speaking of the floor, it was filthy. You could not visibly see any dirt, but we all had black bottomed feet after walking on it barefoot. Guests are expected to sweep the floor before checking out, and this may be happening, but I can tell you it had probably been weeks since that floor had seen a mop. The bayou is beautiful. It was lovely to sit outside on the screened in porch and watch the boats go by. We initially booked cabin #1, but when we arrived there was something wrong with it and they had changed the reservation to cabin #13. Honestly, there isn't much of a difference between them. No cabin is too close to it's neighbor, so I really don't think you can go wrong. It was about 25 minutes to the French Quarter. One day we drove and parked at the Algiers ferry terminal (20 min drive - free street parking) and took the ferry across. The state park feels remote and deep in nature when you're in it, but it's actually right off a main highway with all the conveniences close by. Excellent! Here's the thing: this is not a hotel, it's a state park. If it were just me and my husband, I would not think it was worth it to spend $185 a night to stay here. For the remainder of our trip we stayed in airbnbs for a similar nightly cost that were vastly nicer, more comfortable, and didn't make us sweep the entire house before we left. But for 8 people, 20 minutes from New Orleans, the price simply could not be beat. We enjoyed our experience and wouldn't hesitate to stay here again on a return trip to the area. A couple of helpful notes: 1. The office closes at 5pm on weekdays. We called in advance to let them know we would be later than that and they told us the key would be in the cabin for us and we could check in in the morning. This turned out not to be the case and I nearly had a panic attack thinking about finding another place to stay that night and losing all the food we had in coolers in our car. We caught a lucky break and it worked out in the end, but my advice would be not to chance it - when they say they close at 5pm, they mean it. Be sure to check in BEFORE closing. 2. There is a coffee maker but not coffee filters. 3. One dishwasher pod is provided. Bring extra dish soap. 4. There was no soap in the bathroom. Bring your own just in case. 5. The prior guests may or may not have used the pans to cook the fish they caught, and may or may not have soaked the adequately afterwards. Err on the safe side, wash the pans before using. 6. Bring a sponge. 7. The knives are blunt enough to be a safety hazard. Bring your own if you plan on cutting a watermelon (or something). 8. A swiffer mop is not a bad idea. read more

We stayed at Bayou Segnette SP for 3 weeks in the campground. We stayed at sites 56 and 66 in our RV. The campground is surprisingly quiet, clean, has some nice walking paths on boardwalks throughout, and has enough trees and nature between each spot that you don't feel like you can hold hands with your neighbor through your RV window. The park is within 20 minutes of lots of great food options, and 20 minutes from the Algiers Point ferry, which goes directly into the French Quarter for $2 per person each way. We went during Mardi Gras and the ferry was a great way to get in and out, but finding a parking spot by the ferry was difficult. Uber and Lyft rides during MG range about $60 each way plus tip, and can be difficult to come by from the park, so don't rely on that, especially during peak festival times. We had multiple drivers cancel on us. Overall, we enjoyed our stay. read more

I spent a few days just chilling at Bayou Segnette in cabin 3, which is dog friendly. The cabin was very clean and spacious. Pretty much everything you need is there, other than personal items. The cabins do float on water and depending on the current can move around. First night was rough, second night it barely moved, third was a combo. My pup wasn't comfortable with the floor moving that first night. If you suffer from motion sickness, that might be an issue. For those that fish, each cabin has a fish cleaning station to keep everything outside. I would definitely recommend this if you want a quick getaway or looking for a safe, quiet place to stay while enjoying New Orleans. read more

Not as close to the city as it looks on the map but this place is quiet and our site was huge with good electric and water hookups. Very friendly people just a little different check in process but after that going in and out was no problem just a long road leading to the actual campground and maybe not easy to navigate if you get there after dark. Decent state park. Good size spots with water and electric. They also have free laundry facilities though we didn't try them. Park gets packed on the weekend and I noticed a lot of tent campers in the rv spots which is not something I had seen before. At $28/night it's not the cheapest park but sure beats any of the private parks in the area many of which cost double and have horrible reviews. You can also book online which I like. Good checkout time at like 1pm which is nice so you don't have to rush in the morning. read more

Price is great. Vicinity to the city & Lake Ponchatrain great. I camped here in a tent from July 11th-17th. It wasn't that hot to me but I also enjoy humidity and am not very high mantinence, some people were complaining so I guess I'd be careful if you're easily flushed, overheated or accostumed to A/C. Sunsets & rises were GLORIOUS!!!! Area was very green with huge beautiful trees and lots of great bird watching. Not many other neighbors and the bathrooms were close. I didn't too much mind the spiders, we did kill a giant black widow near the number posts or the Wasps nests in the electric outlets or the bugs at night as it's the South lol. What I found disgusting was the sewage overflowing from the bathroom shower drains, filthy floors and sinks- and good God the stench!!! The worst part-The cockroaches. They bombarded my vehicle and it took me two weeks, already back home, to get them all out of my car. It was disgusting driving down the highway and swatting them off my thighs- yuck. Oh and a racoon stole a steak while I was standing right there and it was light out!!! LMAO. So funny!!! Didn't mind that much either it was just hilarious so yeah, WARNING. I could see dozens of sets of eyes in the brush once I started looking at night. My dog enjoyed chasing armadillos but I wouldn't recommend allowing them off leash. Enjoy! read more

I rented a cabin for the weekend to celebrate my sons' birthday! This cabin has tiny roaches everywhere! I can't get comfortable knowing there's tiny roaches crawling everywhere! I can definitely say Cabin #8 has a roach infestation! I'm sitting up at 1am writing this review because I cannot and will not sleep comfortably in this place. The lady at the desk told us to call the number listed if there was any problems. I've been calling all night... NO ANSWER! I can't even leave a message! I paid $400 to stay for 2 nights! I could have stayed in a luxury hotel at this rate! I'm sure I wouldn't have had to worry about roaches! Very disappointed ! I want a refund! I'm so afraid these roaches will get into my belongings and infest my house! read more

The state park is obviously under funded and not well cared for. The hiking trails were over grown, unkempt, and some trails were impassable. The bathrooms were . The showers walls were full of mildew, the plastic shower curtains were covered in mildew as well. You can get replacement shower curtains at the dollar store for God's sake! The shower curtain hooks were either broken or rusted so the curtain barely hung on by a thread. The shower doors didn't close properly for privacy and safety. The floors were nasty as well. The toilet seats were stained yellow. The urinals . I've camped at many state parks across the country, this was not a good experience . Louisiana Clearly does not maintain its state parks for visitors. I wouldn't recommend camping here. The floating cabins are somewhat OK. But not nice enough to make up for the disinvestment of other areas of the park. read more

Visited this place during my trip to New Orleans to get away from the craziness of the French Quarter. On the positive side, it was only $3 for the day, there's a breeze and it's much less hot there than other areas, and there was a nice little hiking trail which was shady and cool. On the negative side (for me), it's much more well-groomed and "park-like" than I expected. Not a lot of wildlife (except for the giant spiders which could be observed jumping into their (huge) burrows as I approached - fellow arachnophobes be warned!). read more

A fantastic hidden gem of a park on the westbank. It is so nice, wide open area, lots of room for activities ;-) I frequent this place for a aircooled Volkwagen car club annual event. At this event, we rent a pavilion that has running water and two charcoal bbq pits, with a near by clean restroom, while the whole area is peppered with bbq pits. There is paved parking adjacent to the pavilion and a choice of 6 pavilions. Each is identical except for the view. During the summer months there is a wave pool the family can play in. I never been in there but I have seen it and its almost empty most days. Sort of a hidden pool. There used to be cabins to rent but thanks to a storm whose name I will not mention, those cabins were destroyed. Its only $1 to enter and a fantastic place to go parking, necking, or eating a Mo's pizza by your lonesome without being judged by onlookers wondering if your gonna eat the table cloth too and drink all the root beer out of the dispenser and use all the crushed ice. There is a few monkey bars in here for the kids and the speed limit is enforced with a bunch of speed bumps and park rangers on 4 wheelers. Nice and safe environment that should be enjoyed for no reason at all but to get away from the hustle and bustle. read more

33$ for Friday/Sat and $30 the remainder of the week. Overnight campers have access to a specific pool, the wave pool is a separate charge. Kind of expensive but the area is kept up and the bathrooms have hot water! Only used the electrical hookup but had no issues. Bring bug spray and a way to keep cool in the summer! Nice shade here, but you're legitimately in a bayou. Worst part was cell service, and only because I'm working on the road. Struggled to get one or two bars and couldn't get anything while in the camper. The WiFi is available but rather useless for data. Update: they were doing maintenance this morning on some of the power lines and while I was working at the local Starbucks (see WiFi comment above) came around to say the power would be out for a few hours. A fellow camper was nice enough to remind them about my pups in the camper (dependent on AC) and they kindly called me to let me know. +1 read more

Please note that my experience with this park has been restricted mainly to the picnic table/shelter areas. With that being said, who doesn't like a park that has senior discounts! Yup, my parents have embraced getting older by asking for a senior discount practically wherever we go and lo and behold there is a senior discount for this park! It's relatively inexpensive, as I recall a few dollars to get in. The picnic table/shelters are nice and clean with a large size garbage can for trash. There are also peripheral tables around the sheltered area. The park seems maintained and clean. There is a playground for the kiddos. Heck, even the bathroom is clean which was quite shocking to me! It's a beautiful park and next time I need to explore the trails I've read about! Enjoy! read more

Stayed here several times in my RV while visiting New Orleans. The park is large and quiet with lots of wildlife. Sites are large and there is plenty of wooded area and grass around to make you forget that you're 20 minutes from Bourbon Street. The downside is the rather rude staff at the front gate - not just one individual, it seems to be an epidemic. read more

I love Bayou Segnette! Of course I might be a little bit biased since I have been docking out of here for hunting and fishing since I have been 7 years old. If you are going here to dock out for duck hunting, the main gate isn't open early in the morning so you have to take the back entrance. The fee for entry is like 3 bucks, and if you go the back entrance in the early morning, payment is on the honor system. DON'T BE A DOUCHEBAG and not pay, and plus half the time there is a wildlife and fisheries agent watching to see if people pay or not, and if they catch you, that's your ass! There are also cabins that you can rent for the week or for the weekend that sit right on the water. They are very nice and the scenery is beautiful. Also, there are shelters you can rent for the day to just have a BBQ with family and whatnot. If you rent a shelter, bring a bike! It is alot of fun to just go bike riding throughout the park on a beautiful day. Also, if you are just entering the park to go to a shelter or just bike ride, the entry fee is just $1 per person. I try to sway away from 5 star reviews, however Bayou Segnette deserves it in my opinion. read more

Stayed in a cabin on the water. Awesome experience. Clean and it had all of the amenities to make it like home - dishwasher, fans, cookware, etc. Staff were very friendly. Sadly due to a hurricane we were told we had to leave two days early. The kids enjoyed the small gators hanging outside the cabin. Fishing wasn't good and made tricky by the rail around the cabin. Overall it was the perfect distance to city attractions but with the ability to get away from it all to a quiet spot. read more

When I thought of camping in the bayou I didn't know what to expect. A lot of reviews suggested this campground due to its proximity to New Orleans so I opted to make the call to ask a few questions. The staff was so friendly and helpful when it came to answering all my campground questions. When we finally arrived it was past park hours, gates were closed however thanks to the helpful staff we knew there was an after hours gate for campers only. Park rangers were driving through camp and it made it feel very safe. We had come just after a rain so it was muggy and wet yet our site had a space we felt comfortable setting up our tent even with the damp conditions. There were huge mosquitoes but this was expected from the location in a bayou. I would suggest if arriving at night or opening your tent at night to turn your lights off to not attract the bugs inside for sure!! The next morning waking up we saw bunnies and other nice wildlife roaming the campground and other campers walking around all of which were friendly. The bathroom facilities here are large and air-conditioned and are placed at mid camp on both sides of the camping loops. I will for sure go back to this location and call again!! read more

Reservations made several weeks prior to a Friday arrival. Pulled into park about 3:00 pm. No one in office. Lights out. No sign on door. Circled the park for almost an hour looking for our name on any of the space numbered stakes. Nothing. Knocked on park host RV. No answer. Called the office no less than 10 times. No answer and no recording of any kind. If there weren't other campers there...it would have been as if the park was abandoned. Finally called Reserve America. Explained the situation and they started looking into things. They had no explanation why no one in authority was at park. They said they had no record of any weather closing or why it seemed abandoned. They were able to tell us our spot number. Even though that spot had another name on the numbered spot stake, they told us it was ours. We finally parked after an hour of circling the park and making phone calls. The next day the office was open. The two women in office said the state said to just close up because bad weather was expected. Bad weather that never came through. Really? Don't leave a note on the door for arriving customers? Don't call arriving customers? Just close up? Wow. Ok then. Office personnel had a very "big deal" attitude and basically shrugged us off. Of course, once we were able to check in and finalize payment, they had computer problems that held things up. Of course they did. The park itself is nice. Large spaces and clean. However, the state park folks of Louisiana have zero concept of good customer service. Just a simple handwritten note on the window or a phone call for arriving guests advising them of situation with a little instruction would have made this s 5-star rating. Obviously, closing up early because there 'may' be bad weather is much more important than guests at this park though. read more

A great state park right here in New Orleans that is perfect for bike riding, camping and trail walking. The highlight of the park is an excellent wave pool with clean water and great waves. I have been here for about 2 weeks and I absolutely LOVE it here at the park. It is close to the downtown (20 minute drive) so you can explore the city, yet enough distance so you can have peace and quiet. There are lots a places to walk and explore throughout the park. Very dog friendly :-) The two pitfalls that I have come around: 1) laundry room--two sets of washers and dryers that are free but do not work well. 2) the staff at the front gate is VERY RUDE-it must be a requirement to work the front gate. read more

Great park! Big grassy spots. Some have decks others have concrete pads with picnic tables. Not difficult at all to get to the Algiers Ferry to go downtown. You MUST have exact change though to ride the ferry. There are no ATM's there so make sure to have $1's. Fare is $2 for adults. (3-65). They do not give change. The ferry brings you to the foot of Canal St where you can catch the street cars. All the spots at the State Park Are good; however I think these are GRE..spots 15 17 28 59 & 99. read more

We had a great two night visit here. Clean and free laundry. Nice kids playgrounds. Great proximity to New Orleans and easy to use dump station. Pool was closed even when it said it was supposed to be open Thursday at 11am) so check that in advance. We also called in advance to move our reservation up and they said we could do it when we got there, no problem. Confirmed we wanted to not incur cancel fee so wanted to formally change and again they stated we could just do it when we arrived. We had this conversation two days in a row. When we got there, they denied those two different conversations and charged us a cancel fee so be sure to insist on changes in advance. read more

The family and I made our first trip to Bayou Segnette earlier this month. Of course, the fiance grew up on the westbank, so he had been there multiple times before. It was my first time. The entrance fee is $1 each if you are just going in for the day (without a boat). They have a very nice, well-maintained picnic and playground area. The wildlife & fisheries guys drive around and make sure everything is clean, no issues with animals, etc. There is a camping area, but I hate camping, so I'll never use that feature (and thus, cannot review it). Too much outdoors... too many bugs. Bring sunscreen! read more

I was on a cross country motorcycle trip and was looking for a campground.. this place rocks!

This was our first visit to New Orleans and we are so happy we stayed at this park. The RV sights were spacious with plenty of room in between the neighbors. It was easy to get in and out. When we first arrived we had problems with the 50 amp electricity. By the time we figured it out and switched to the 30 amp service, the office was closed. I called the next morning and they had a repairman out immediately. He also discovered a problem with the internet connection while he was there and fixed it too. We decided to stay a day longer and that was handled easily for us. They provided helpful information about the area at check in. We took an Uber into the City for dinner and that worked well. We had the pleasure of watching competition runners run through the park on Saturday. Then, to top off our already great experience, my husband said that was the best dump station he's ever used! This review is for the picnic area: We went to the picnic area for a family day (picnic, playing ball, etc). First, the grass was long and seemed like it had not been cut at all recently. It did rain the previous day, BUT had not for the few days before. The ant beds were out of control. They were everywhere! The kids couldn't even play, because everywhere they stepped, they were coming across an ant bed. The picnic tables were falling apart, literally. I guess I'm confused why we paid $2/per person to enter a park that isn't maintained. We left and went to City Park and had a 150% better experience. Holy humidity. Summer in Louisiana!! This park is actually quite lovely. It's about 20 minutes or so from the downtown area. It's inexpensive too. Very clean and well kept, we first had a site that was in direct sun in the morning but they let us relocate to a shadier spot the next day. We had electric and water so we had a pretty sweet setup with a fan in our tent to keep us cool. It was quiet (maybe July isn't prime camping season here) and there are showers and flush toilets. They give you a code to unlock/lock the gate after a certain hour so people don't just roll in and cause a ruckus. I didn't get to do much hiking as I spent most of my time in the French Quarter or the Garden District but I'm so glad this place is here!! Definitely a great option to enjoy both the city and the outdoor life in New Orleans. read more

i love this park its the closest one to my house. it cost a $1 for each person over the age of 3 to enter the park. i went there today for an easter egg hunt that Harrah's casino was sponsoring. i never knew they hosted such events here and ive lived nearby for more than 30 years. bayou segnette is keeping up with the digital world they even have a facebook account. my friends and family have birthday parties and baby showers out here that ive attended. it will cost you $50 bucks to rent a shaded area with grill. i have fond memories of the lodging facilites we once used in high school for our leadership workshops. as an added bonus wild mulberries trees can be found in the park perfect for picking! read more

Big spiders, some arachnophobia type spiders!!! Other than that I like it because I appreciate how there is a wave pool for the youths to swim on during the summer. I just wish it was bigger and they can add a theme park in the area. Maybe the children of the future will stay out of trouble if the city offers things for them to do within the community read more
