Mansplained, this is a steak cooked medium rare inside of a puff pastry with 2 different sauces on it. Phenomenally good! The atmosphere is really dark with low lighting, dark cherry wood everywhere. The music was bad and loud. If it was one or the other it would have been fine, but this was like if someone gave Yoko Ono glowsticks and said start and EDM band. All of these areas are not very big, so it still has that neighborhood bar feel. They have a different food vendor on weekends, so you won't get these wings then. Last night we were bar hoping and I decided it was time to get my courage up and check it out. My friend and I did get a couple funny looks, but no one bothered us or made us feel like we didn't belong. In fact, the owner made sure that we knew that we, and anyone else were we come there. He was such a kind man. He told us all about the food specials they have almost every night I think he cooks himself. We are going to go back and try some (I have a good feeling the man can cook). It was honestly one of the most welcoming bars I've been too. And the owner watched everyone leave to make sure they were safe. Where else do they care that much? We came back later and caught the second half of the set; it was $20 cover for the whole thing and $10 for the second half, though felt like if you were there before the band maybe the cover didn't apply. The music was great and the dive bar atmosphere really fed into the mood. You could also tell the bar had its crowd of regulars, and everybody was really into the music, which was great. I might have otherwise given it 4 stars because it felt slightly uncomfortable in terms of seating for the music, but the music, atmosphere, and bartender were so great it was a 5-star experience for my NoLa tourist self.
