Parking is easy to find (I usually park in the Chase Bank/Rite Aid parking lot and walk the 5 minutes to the park), the park is clean, and there are benches all around for people to sit on if sitting on the ground/grass isn't your thing. The free concerts are on most Wednesdays in the months of July and August at 7pm. The event is called "Wednesdays in the Park" and every Wednesday there is a different type of music playing live. Bring a blanket or a foldable beach chair and enjoy a picnic in the evening at a clean park! For an ice cream fix, there are usually at least 1-2 ice cream trucks parked on either side of the park's adjoining streets (y). Be sure to check out the Peace Labyrinth at the Common Ground as well! This is the schedule for "Wednesdays in the Park" - there are 3 more concerts left in August! http://www.thecommonground.com/wednesdays-in-park.html

Meditation Labyrinth Review 1 of 3…read more The labyrinth of Common Ground/ Gillette Park is a traditional seven-ring Middle Ages/ Chartres design, and was laid out, concreted and bricked by a true craftsman. It has a nice roomy feel for subconscious and submissive navigation. I have spoken to the Celestials here on many an evening, as the park is easily accessible at night. They have reikii healing ceremonies and special events here too, sometimes at the nearby pavilion, which I imagine has some pretty cool acoustics. The path leading to the labyrinth has mosaics, benches and etched tributes. . . you can buy a stone of your own in the walk with a $60 donation. The park also features a few stone chess tables and nicely painted garbage cans painted in the style of Van Gogh, Dali, Warhol and maybe Homer (?). Very cool area and concepts, but not too private.

There are buildings throughout the park with plenty of bathrooms : CLEAN bathrooms! , There is also a small gift shop & Cafe that is open for " most" of the year . . You can definitely " Get lost" here , if that is a goal...and daydreami. There are wide open smoother paths as well as paved walkways & more paths you can track through the woods. There's different water displays with the river running throughout the park iWe got to see a few animals in nature. : a Hawk. Dear, chipmunks. to start. Any time of year this park is beautiful. S if you're in the area or even if you're not in the area, it's definitely worth the drive in the season. It's a MY Star park so they take the NYS EMPIRE PASSPOET or pay cash at either entry . I know there are at least two ways to get into the park. With plenty of parking and again they only charge parking fees during peak season. Bundle up agates this weather breaks, it's good for you to get out there for fresh air and exercise in the dead winter. ( an you tell I am a mom? ) I love this place, I am just trying harder to try to see more of what Long Island has to offer as far as Parks & trails. Oh, at the beginning of one of the trails it had a sign and showed different plants and bushes. And we had identified all 10 of those even though it was I believe late November when we came here. I'm looking forward to coming back specifically in more spring, like weather. You can see the fish some of the waters / streams running thru ...

I come to this beach a lot to take photos and just relax. It's a beautiful little area I've been…read morevisiting for years. There are two "sides"... one side is the marina, where there is a long pier with benches and the sailing club. The other side is the public beach, with restrooms, playground, tennis court, small picnic area and walking path and beach. During the on-season there is a lifeguard during the day. I'm not sure of the dates, but starting in May and going through mid October is their on-season and they charge a ridiculous amount to park for non Islip Town residents. On top of that, they charge up until like 7:30pm which is terrible since nearly all local beaches stop charging after about 5pm. They are literally the only beach I know of that keeps someone at the booth until almost sundown. They also charge a fee even if you do have an Islip Rec card, and I was recently told by another beach employee they aren't allowed to do that. I don't know if it'll be the same guy this year, but he's mostly been not very friendly when I've encountered him. All of this is a huge bummer for an otherwise cool little beach! Needless to say, during their on-season, I pretty much don't go there except on rainy days and if no one is at the booth. The way they treat people is obnoxious. And for the record, I am an Islip town resident. Meanwhile, one town over the beach is free. One town further and it only costs money to park (until 5ish) and they have nicer amenities. This is a good example of why Long Island needs to create better beach access passes that make it easier for people to enjoy the shore.
