    Good old Bayshore

Oh god... Where am I? This station is in the middle of nowhere. Thank god there are map apps. If you are traveling Southbound, you need to be ready for the stairs. And if you just arrive at the station and hear the "Southbound train is arriving" announcement, you need to beat Usain Bolt's world record to catch the train. And don't forget to clip your Clipper otherwise you will be kicked out of the train at the next stop.

The moment I missed all the baby bullet train for the day I knew it was gonna take forever to get to San Jose from San Francisco so I coordinated with my roommate to come get me. We decided that Bayshore would be the best destination to pick me up. I arrived at Bayshore and it was very sketchy. What I didn't like was I had to go up 3 stories, cross the tracks, and then go down another 3 stories. Why couldn't they just make a path across the tracks?

Pretty simple no frills station. It's a bit in the boonies with no close by stores. There is ample street parking so don't pay to park in the lot. Train stops about once an hour for a 10 min ride to SF. There is a ticket machine, a few shelters to wait in, and yellow rubber bumpers in the cement to remind you that you are standing too close to the edge. Design is a bit poor. For those getting off SB you have to walk to the S end, cross the bridge, and then walk all the way to the N end to exit. They should have just put the pedestrian bridge at the N end where the exit is. Go figure. Oh. And no restrooms anywhere around here so you better hold it, wear depends, or water one of the drought stricken trees.

This is public transportation, people so of course it's going to be "scary" as some of you descriptive folk put it. You're on 16th St, get over it it's always been this bad and there's nothing you or anyone can do about it unless you sign up for the waiting list of utopia. Anyway I digress. It's always pretty easy peasy getting from point a to point b from this location and there's many great coffee shops, restaurants, a Walgreens (which won't be there much longer if that housing project goes through) all above the station. there's a US bank across the street, I mean come on people it's an inner city tube, slather on the lube for your sensitivities and pick a route and be on your way.

There you have it plain and simple. Direct and to the point. I say it like it is for every German tourist out there who thinks all the USA is golden paved roads, wonderbra and sunshine. Reality check. Now let me get back to my studies - I got a whole pile of those.

I am not alone either, as others have praised it for its Brutalism. The style is not one I favor generally. The Embarcadero, which isn't even pure Brutalism, displays its flaws. It is deliberately off putting and inspiring of human distress. Or if not intentional then with reckless disregard of the needs of most persons for an assurance they are welcomed and valued. The architectural school, however, is enjoying a renaissance because of how it photographs. The massed concrete and simple forms look great and even profound rendered as social media squares the size of thumbnails. The discipline is evident. The John Wick like commitment to a vision more or less indifferent to emotional yearnings for a sense of community. If you have any interest, then, in seeing a magnificent example of the maligned movement, this is worth a stop. If you are a street photographer, it is a half hour well spent. But if you are just commuting back and forth, it is another station in a vast system. As they go, it performs its function. A work friend was shocked to learn people review anything other than restaurants on this platform. I regard it as a good use of Yelp to do so. Perhaps this will help out an aspiring architect or a photographer with this interest.

What appeals to me most about Uber is that it prioritizes a passenger's safety. The app generates a one-time verification PIN that I give to the driver, and the app also permits me to opt-in for an audio recording of the entire driver/ passenger conversation. I also use Uber to buy ferry tickets to Fire Island. I click on "Account" "Transit Tickets" "Buy Ticket" and then select which part of the island I want to visit. This July 4, I plan to go to the annual Drag Queen Invasion of Fire Island, so I will be selecting "Pines". The app has a Hotel Reservation feature that is found on the "Services" tab, but I won't be staying in the Pines overnight. It will be a "day trip" thing. Overall, I have had nothing but positive experiences with Uber in all the years that I have been using the service. I am one satisfied customer.

I won't go into the long, complicated history of Muni's 15 bus, mostly because I don't remember…read more But back in the day, there was an easy way to remember which Muni bus lines went through Chinatown: The multiples of 15. So the 15, the 30, and the 45 all went through Chinatown. When the T-Third Street came into existence in 2007, I believe they got rid of the 15--or was it the 10-Townsend?--because it duplicated much of the T-Third's route. But that's not really true, since the T-Third wouldn't extend all the way to Chinatown until January 2023, but there was duplication on 3rd Street. Wait, wait, wait! I said I wouldn't go into that history. The 15-Bayview Hunters Point Express has a long, complicated name, but it serves a very important purpose: namely, efficiently transporting passengers from Bayview to the Financial District, and vice versa. Yes, its service is redundant, as most of its line shares the T's line on 3rd Street, but the T-Third runs at grade, meaning that it has to deal with all the same cross streets and signals as regular cars and buses do, at least along 3rd Street, so the 15 is often faster than the T, at least for short trips on 3rd Street. I often use the 15 and T interchangeably. If I'm on 3rd Street and I need to go north or south, I pull up NextBus and find out which one is coming first. I hop on that one. The 15 is also useful for when they're doing service work on the T or if there's any kind of track issue that backs trains up along the line. The 15's bus stops are generally past the street of its intersections, which is mainly true of the T-Third's stations, so it's easy enough to wait for either train or bus right at the corner. You'll definitely be able to see the train long enough ahead of time to cross the street to the station entrance.
