Convenient to the Tanforan mall and next to police station. Try Bart. It builds character. Half off sale for the month of September. No better time to try Bart again. I've been having to use it a lot lately - if your worried about the who ha flu bring your N95 masks. I see that the most seasoned Bart riders have that along with some reading material. Bart trains can get crowded. Especially during rush hour at connecting trains. Maybe avoid that if you can but if you've got a direct route you might want to give it a try. I recently saw a very model type lady get on the train here. She was very well dressed and chose not to sit down although many many seats were open. She angled her body slightly into the wall against a metal vertical handbar jamming her shoulder - locked in place. She didn't touch anything. Thats classy. She was a pro at this Bart thing. I don't remember what kind of mask she wore but I was curious how she could balance so well with the unpredictable starting and stopping of the train. She was wearing very stylish but sensible shoes that I remember thing was aiding in her balancing act. IDk you might not want to bring the children. For one thing they will want to touch everything..... but it depends on your parenting technique. I've personally not witnessed anything much except some youngsters smoking between the cars which I think could make a great designated smoking section anyway. read more

This is my secret gateway into San Francisco city centre. The prices demanded by city centre hotels are nothing short of criminal, especially when they demand extortionate amounts to park your car on top of the basic room rate and they also often lack basic amenities like free internet access That's why I stay near the airport and drive and park at San Bruno BART station - there's a giant parking structure and I've never had problems finding a space. $2 daily parking fee - yes, commuters in England, read and weep!! The station is a minute's walk away as is the Tanforan Mall and Century Cinema. Only downer is that the Clipper card wasn't available from here for some reason. read more

I hate to do this to an all-around decent-seeming BART station, but San Bruno sucks. Not the city. I have nothing against the City of San Bruno. In fact, I hope its residents are somehow eventually vindicated and that PG&E actually pays for the people it murdered there in 2010. Also, the school and church I attended growing up were named after St. Bruno of Cologne, so I've got at least something in common with our fair peninsular neighbors to the southish. But this BART station is bad. It's the SFO transfer station. That's fine, but when you're a transfer station, shouldn't your platform be fully covered? I've never been here in the rain, but I can imagine it being very uncomfortable to have to avoid the wet parts of the platform with dozens of your closest complete strangers. Also, the platform has too few benches. Again, if people are going to be waiting for the next SFO-bound train, you should give them somewhere to sit. And God forbid you should actually sit at one of the few benches, because they're right below the PA loudspeakers, whose volume is always turned up to a ridiculous level. And louder isn't always clearer, as most people who have spent any time riding public transportation are well aware. So thanks, BART, for making me stand, (potentially) getting my luggage wet, and making my ears ring. read more

In comparison to the Millbrae station, this one falls just slightly short. Despite the fact that the San Bruno police station and the BART police station are both located right on premise, I still don't get that oh-I'm-safe feeling for some reason... But here's the real raw deal -- did you know that it'll cost you $8.10 to go to SFO from San Bruno but from Millbrae, you can go to SFO for only $3?! Oh, I know what you're thinking -- so just go to the Millbrae station! Not so easy my friends... you can't get to SFO directly from Millbrae... you have to take Millbrae to San Bruno then transfer over to the train that takes you to SFO -- AH HA! and that's how they get you my friends... Well I'd rather save $5 so I guess I'll have to go to Millbrae. read more

The San Bruno BART station is a great place to segue to get to the city. Depending on what time you arrive as there's plenty of parking trains come through every 9 to 12 minutes giving easy access into San Francisco especially shopping at Westfield. read more

By far the nicest of all the BART stations. Maybe because it is one of the newer ones? Or because it's huge? Or my opinion is tainted since it's so close to the mall? Whatever it may be, this is the stop to get on and off at. Though it makes trips a little more pricey, depending on where you're going of course, I am willing to make the drive to park my car here to go any where else. Best to be and feel safe then sorry, right? ;) Oh, and did I mention that the parking here is FREE? Yea, pretty cool. read more

The San Bruno BART Station was clean, conveniently located and pretty well kept up. There was a police presence when I was there, and the operator, Winston, was very friendly and helpful. There is a side street on Huntington, which makes it very easy for shuttles and LYFT drivers to pull up to pick up. On the other side, it leads straight to the mall. Which is also very convenient. We were in town for Labor Day weekend and were able to travel with ease. The system is fairly easy to navigate as long as you know where you are headed, or if you are feeling adventurous. read more

1st time taking the Bart or train. I was excited! I've taken train @ airports but this is so nice to get experience. Icky area, but you are located right next to Police station, Target, JCPenny's, CineMark movie theaters. A bit icky area. But boyfriend & I opted for the train experience. We were going from Bart station in South San Fransisco to Powell (China Town). We got round trip tickets, for 8$ each. Buy tickets outside & enter in w/tickets. If NO ticket you do not enter Bart train station. It's easy transportation & I suggest females do not go alone, I'm one of those that always brings someone protective. Boyfriend helps. Parking was FREE on weekends. Pay for parking Monday-Friday. It's in a big huge parking structure. Totally do it. read more

Of all the BART Stations I've been to, San Bruno is definitely the best. Located conveniently right across from Tanforan Shopping Center, and with a Police Department right next door. Plus, connections to CalTrain and SamTran buses right there- couldn't be more convenient. Really appreciate the departure time board outside of the station, so that you don't have to enter the building until it's close to your train's arrival. The inside of the building is very clean and pleasant. Perhaps because it is the next to last stop on the San Mateo County leg of BART, it doesn't seem to get the same sort of shady characters as you sometimes encounter at the Millbrae station. While this station appears to have been updated more recently than some of the other BART stations, seeing a dead pidgeon stuck in the trash nets above the platform open areas and the water damaged ceilings at platform level under the builing makes this just another typical gross BART station. read more

Well I ended up at this station by accident while trying to get to the airport. Coming from someone who has a good deal of experience with the metro in the DC area although the Bart and metro are similar there are some differences. 1. The colored line of the train that shows up is a bit of a courtesy only. It's just a color and apparently nothing more as I had discovered. 2. This station is pretty nice though it's clean it's bright and is also a transfer point to get to the airport. Remember folks if going to SFO be sure to look for the train that says it's going to SFO specifically. Otherwise you'll make the same error and end up in Millbrae and have to go back up one stop to San Bruno. Luckily I left plenty early as sometimes trains can be delayed and such. Thankfully there were nice riders who showed us the way to SFO when we were in Millbrae. read more

Often times, you get off here to transfer to the SFO train if you got on the Millbrae station train. -------------------------------- This station leads you to be right outside of Tanforan Mall. Trusty station to drive to for midday/afternoon meetings in sf. Easy on and off from 380/280 highway to avoid occasional 101 traffic. Always can easily find parking (a lot of spots open up after 10am). Next door to tanforan food court where there's a chipotle or sarku teriyaki. Also a target nearby for shopping errands. read more

MUNI Stinks, BART Rules. This place was clean and not overpacked. I got on and got to sit down which was nice. No sitting on Muni unless you're older or the first person on. Clean for what it is. Can't complain. read more

I take BART from here whenever I need to go to the city or east bay. I like the fact that you can always find parking in the garage, and that it's located next to the police station. I also like how it's only a mile away from the Caltrain station, so if I miss the last Caltrain train, I can catch BART and make a quick jog over to Caltrain. Also, it's pretty well-lit compared to other stations. The trains, well, could use some interior cleaning, to say the least, although I think they come often enough that if I miss my train, I don't mind waiting for the next one. read more

I can't believe I am actually reviewing a BART station... BUT, I come here at least once a week for work so I figure I would put in my two cents. First off. It is a Bart stop. I mean, how nice can it really be right? However, my commute begins at the Civic Center stop in downtown SF and takes me here, so it really is like night and day. The San Bruno Bart station is bright and airy with the openings plenty of bench seating, and accessible stairs or escalator. For me, I bike so this really has a great perk. As some may notice many of the elevators on Bart are actually outside of the swipe in/out part of the Bart stop leaving the opportunity for some of San Francisco's finest to actually just hop on the elevator and not pay the fee (meaning the elevators sometimes are just free riders and sketchy people). So, I like that this station provides elevators inside of the 'swipe zone' and it actually appears that these elevators are cleaned on a daily basis (again, I am comparing to the disgusting elevators at civic center). Outside of the station you can find plenty of parking, secure bike lockers, and a port of transfer for multiple buses (SamTrans). You literally walk out the station and step right into the shops at Tanforan (Target, OldNavy, Movie Theaters, food court, restrooms, etc). Personally, I think the staff here is excellent. The Bart attendants are always really friendly, helping people with directions and keeping this place in working order. Frequently I will want to just pop into the mall real quick and they allow me to lock my bike up inside without swiping in/out and getting charged for just wanting to go in real quick (thank you). In all, this is a Bart station. There isn't anything over the top or fantastic about it. But I do appreciate that it is clean, safe, and makes my morning commute a bit more enjoyable. read more

The San Bruno BART station is a conveniently located station next to the Tanforan Mall. If you're headed up to the city, it's nice to be able to get food/drinks before the game. It isn't a clean station, but what public transportation area is in the Bay Area? There are several floors of parking available and if that fails, there's always target. Never had a problem so far. While the station is easy to get around, it's not obvious if it's the first time here so nice there's not a direct connection between the station and the mall, as one may expect. You have to go around to the outside to access it. Otherwise it's convenient to have this station here. read more

What I feared might come to a sad ending for my brief weekend stint proved to be quite the opposite! I hopped on Bart from SFO to find my car still in the San Bruno Bart parking garage with no tickets or broken windows! For over 3 nights stay, $14 Bart transit + $6 per day of parking came out to far less than even the cheapest off-airport parking site. Looks like a perfectly sound option for my wheels when I'm away from them! read more

It's nice to not have to walk all the way around the Police station then backtrack to the entrance. I noticed the gates were wide open yesterday. Good location right behind the Tanforan mall. Not as dirty as most BART stations...also less crowded. But be careful parking here! Don't let the police station next door lull you into a false sense of security. Break-ins are very prevalent here, so be sure to hide anything that looks even remotely valuable. Also, since when did parking go up to $2/day? Is it still $1/day at the SSF station? Screw that, park at Target instead. read more

I remembered how many of my compadres up in San Francisco would bragged about how easy it was for public transportation to take you anywhere in San Francisco. Apparently it does not apply to South of San Francisco such as San Bruno. One of the few things I liked about some of the stations in LA was the fact that they would display a system map for all transit lines including other cities' municipal bus lines along the major streets. Once you get off from San Bruno, you will be in the mercy of strangers or the defeat of calling a cab. It's not easy getting to and from this BART station. You really still need a car to go from there. The only real convenience for taking a BART was to travel to SF without having the need to drive through long hectic traffic. Seriously some of those drivers in the freeway are very hot tempered. SF's traffic is a major joke. I just realized there was no difference going from Long Beach to Downtown as this station to heart of San Francisco would be compared to. The BART station is OK. It's just a link on one of the many stops from Milbrae to the heart of SF. If you want to go to Richmond, Oakland or Pittsburg, CA...then you are in luck. All you have to do is wait for that appropriate line to get there. The only hiccup is to calculate the right cost for you to travel. Let me put a comparison to this, it's only $5 for an all-day pass in LA. It cost me $7 to travel one way from San Bruno to 16th Street in SF and back to San Bruno again. If I make a pit stop, I will add more money value to the fare. Get your calculator out as you need to figure out the cost going from one zone to another. My one request is that the Bay Area Transit need to communicate with BART Shuttles about the times and schedule. It will make easier for the riders to know when to expect the pickup. read more

My station of choice, from where I live. A fairly accessible Bart station right off of 380 (as compared to the SSF station which you have to take El Camino to get to). It still has free parking, and doesn't run out of space (which Colma/Daly City both suffer from) - though, you'll be parking on the 5th floor if you get there by 9am. It's fairly clean compared to other stations in the system, and has working toilets (but -secret tip- if you really have to #2, go to the police station restroom, it's a lot cleaner!) Its location right next to the Tanforan mall is nifty (too bad since it's remodeled, most stuff is overpriced, but can be nice to walk around), as well as another strip mall a block away. Doesn't get 5 stars because there is still that stupid fence blocking the direct walkway from the Bart station to the Tanforan mall. You have to walk all the way back to the parking structure, and around the police station to get to it. All because they want to prevent the Target parking lot from being used by Bart riders. Whatever. What they're preventing is more casual business from Bart riders. Especially from folks like me - so take that, suckers! read more

I don't expect much from BART stations. I hesitate to call myself a fan, but this station is better than many of the other stations I've been to. Here's why: 1. Parking Lot: Excellent and huge adjacent multi story parking lot. While you got to pay for it (fairly inexpensive), it's still not that easy to find parking during peak hours. Clean lot with escalators and stairways for easy access. 2. Clean Station: Trust me, many BART stations are old, NOT clean, and simply dirty. 3. Updated Machines/Gates: Since this is one of the newer stations in the system, the technology is a bit better than some of the other stations. They also have a machine for paying for parking electronically. There are two set of gates (one from the mall side and another one from the street side). 4. Location: Shop at Tanforan and nearby shopping centers that include stores such as Albertsons/Lucky's, Best Boy, and BevMov. Station is also close to the San Bruno Post Office, 24 Hour Fitness, and many restaurants near and on El Camino Blvd. There's also a new movie theater (century) there. Minus 1 for the so so customer service. The lack of customer service, however, is pretty much the "expectation" one would receive within the BART system. Overpaid and lousy customer service. Compared with the other stations I've been to, the attendants here are generally speaking slightly better (but still can improve their customer service attitude). read more

This station is very conveniently located behind the Tanforan Shopping Mall. The station has plenty of bike parking, a convenient drop off zone, and is served by a giant parking structure. This is the perfect place to park your car if you are going to go to SFO. Why spend $15 a day for long term parking at SFO when you can park for free (weekends), or for $6 / day on the weekdays and take BART ($6.90 from Ssn Bruno to SFO). There are good pedestrian connections between the mall and the station. They removed parking on one side of the Target parking structure to accomodate a painted pedestrian walkway... good stuff! read more

The tiny parking completely fills up around 9:00 am. Trash flies under your feet and in your face when you exit the parking elevator. I should take a picture of that for the "storefront photo" one of these days. You park in one of those "after 10:00 am" spaces a few minutes early, and have a ticket on your windshield when you come back. read more

It's a BART station. You come here, wait, and get on a train. It's newer so it's clean. It's also not in SF or Oakland, so it's clean. It's pretty much attached to the mall. Don't know who would take BART to Tanforan, but for me that means there's lots of parking, so I never pay to park in the BART lot. Also, it's like 5 minutes to SFO, but it costs something like $14. Seems sort of ridiculous, but I've done it. I wonder if a cab would be cheaper, but I have no idea. Oh yeah, and people here (in the morning commute time at least) actually line up which is nice, and the complete opposite of my transfer at Balboa Park where people all but throw you into the 3rd rail to get in the car first, and don't let people getting off out before barging in. Maybe it's not that bad, but still. Anyway, seems silly to write a review about a BART station. read more

I'm a fan of public transportation period. I was a little confused as to how to purchase the ticker from the kiosk, but eventually I figured it out. There is a manned booth to purchase directly from a human, which in retrospect would of been a better option since the trip was 8.65 and I paid a tenner to make things go quicker. One item, if you never have done this before, you need to keep your ticket to enter and to EXIT at your destination. My Suzie had a panic attack once we got to Powell Station since we couldn't find her ticket. It eventually appeared in the bottom of the purse. We were staying at the Grand Hyatt, so this was convenient getting there quickly without traffic or the price of a cab. However, lugging a 53lb suitcase up the stairs rather than taking the elevator to Market street was a bad decision. read more

This is my main mode of transport to work in the morning. I live literally 5 minutes from here and it's awesome. Feels very safe since San Bruno Police Department is housed right next to/in it! So there's usually no shady characters hanging around the area and the garages since they are all shared by both the police station, and BART Police. Right next to Tanforan mall too. So those without a car can take the train in and get their shopping done, then hop back on and be back home. All within walking distance. FREE Daily Parking! 4 stars though becuase they can let it get a little dirty at times around the garage. Like bags, leaves, newspaper is swirling about as you get off the elevators from the parking. Same goes for the elevator cars. Every now and then there's piss in the corner of the elevator car. It's gross! Tip: Come early on a weekday if trying to park. If you get there around 8am even, almost all the free parking is taken. If there is none, you have to wait until around 10am until the reserved spots are free. read more

The 4 stars are not for parking at the station,but for the location because of the shopping,etc.I tend to hate malls,but this is easy access without the driving and parking madness. Access to Target upon your exit from Bart and entry to the theatre I find quite nice. Not bad,but ok without the hassle of trying to look for parking in front of Barnes and Nobles or Target during a particular hour/time. read more

My boyfriend had his car parked here for 10 days and his Honda badge was stolen. You can get trains that come from SFO or Millbrae so the wait time is a bit shorter. Same on the way back, either final destination works. Parking is simple and close by. Right next to a mall. Close to highways. Can't ask for more than that! read more

I took my rare trip to San Bruno and the Shops at Tanforan. 1. Super close and a short walk to the mall food court entrance. 2. CLEAN!!! An operating restroom and a clean one at that! 3.
