My cabin was comfy and cozy and tucked away in the trees for a very secluded feeling.

First off, the location's wrong. This place is located right next to Obstruction Pass State Park…read more Use the directions on their website to guide you. Second, we didn't stay at the Inn, but boy do I wish I could afford it! The place is gorgeous! 57 acres of forest, a few trails including one up to a nice sunset bluff, and right on the beach (but an enviro-friendly 200 feet back, and nice preservation of the trees). This review is for the kayaking experience. We took a Saturday 9am paddle with Sandy (one-half of the owners). It was marvelous. They have the best-priced guided kayak tour on the island, and an excellent location to depart from. Sandy and Carl (her husband, the other owner), were friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable. They answered all kinds of questions about Island life, environmental policy, wildlife, kayaking, etc. The gear was in great shape and they even had long boats (for the 2 tall men in the group) and gloves and boots for all. 8 of us went out in 4 boats and Sandy expertly assessed the group's interests and skills and kept us all herded and engaged. We saw bald eagles, seals, and plenty of intertidal stuff. After hearing that none of us had pressing engagements, Sandy stayed out with us an extra half hour, at least (hard to tell time on the water). Overall, a fabulous experience. Well worth the money (oh, and they take credit cards).

WOW! We had the best vacation here. The lake nearby was so fun to visit and being so close to everything special (Mount Constitution, East Sound and Doe Bay etc) You're only 1.5 miles to the grocery store and gas station. The ferry ride from Anacortes was great and easy, just make a reservation. I'll definitely bring my whole family back. It was the perfect place to make great memories. We even got to wash our clothes before we left! Thanks so much!

BUT...it's like Fort Knox due to the fact that the owners will not allow ANYONE but those that are on their approved inhabitants list (no more than 10 and I don't just mean overnight quests - which I would understand). No family members, friends or folks that you may meet on the Island during your stay are allowed to step ONE TOE on their property lest you will have the sheriff physically escort your guests AND yourself off their property at any time without refund (which is in their cheery follow-up email that you receive a few days before your arrival). And they make sure of this by having camera's at the door to monitor your comings and goings and also conveniently park their RV just over the fence to keep you on the up and up. You may say that maybe they've had bad experiences but heck...charge a hefty deposit if that's the case. We asked permission to simply have my brother and his family come for dinner one night and we were promptly denied. So again, it's a great place but if you don't want to be kicked out if you happen to want to have friends or family over for even one evening meal...forget it.

Booking was a breeze, advanced communication was timely and informative, check-in was friendly and easy, and even the drive across the island from Friday Harbor was engaged and informative. But the real magic happened on the water, where we started under mild, overcast skies, and ended with sunshine and perfect weather. Along the way we saw: 1 black fox, 2 harbor seals, 1 harbor porpoise, a rhinoceros auklet (unique diving sea bird), 13+ Bald Eagles, AND TWO HUMPBACK WHALES! The beach side lunch was fantastic... the best turkey sandwich I've ever had, made exceptional by the views and the company. The lack of an Orca sighting made this full day trip an eyelash shy of perfect, but we could not have otherwise been more thrilled with our experience on the water with Brandon and the Discovery Sea Kayak team. Thank you for a magical day on the island. PS - we paid half as much for a full day tour with Discovery as we did for a half day tour on Orcas Island, so this group gets our strongest recommendation!

But I was profoundly disappointed as we drove up and saw the property. The grounds were not beautifully landscaped as I expected. It was dry and barren. The layout was spread out with no clear connection and no central point of activity. The loss of the "mansion" is a huge disappointment. That has always been the centerpiece of the resort and has always been front and center in the marketing materials and represented an elegant and luxurious experience. That iconic structure is no longer part of the resort. The check-in process was completely impersonal. When we did find the "office" it was in a squat brown nondescript building. There was no personal interaction. We were not welcomed or offered assistance. We picked up a poor-quality, black-and-white photocopy of a map of the resort so we could find our building. Next to the office was a large, run down industrial building that looked like a former fish processing plant. A blight on the property. The building that housed our room was dated. The hallway was shabby. The ice machine was making a death rattle. The decks and walkways needed power washing, and there was debris from the trees littering the walkways and stairs. Just a daily sweeping would do wonders. Our room was nice but way overpriced. That's really the issue here...I expected an exceptional experience for that rate. This is no longer a resort. We had just returned from three nights at Roche Harbor Resort on San Juan Island. A fantastic experience for far less expense.
