Did a two day trip. The guide was fantastic. with knowledge of plants, animals, geology and islands in the area. And the food was excellent, thoughtfully prepared and sensitive to peoples food allergies. It was an amazing experience and I highly recommend. Also of note is that the equipment was good quality and well maintained, with the kayaks being stable and relatively easy to steer with an added rudder.

First time kayaking and Ellie and Ethan made it so easy!!

Oh gosh, what an amazing experience with Ellie and Ethan!! They were amazing guides that were so knowledgeable in kayaks and kayaking in the area we felt relaxed and at ease even though it was our first time ocean kayaking! Not only were they experts in kayaking but were also well versed in island history and other island information. We had the time of our lives and learned a ton along the way! Ellie was super chill and relaxed helping us to be more confident and at ease. When we got on the water we felt like it was our 10th time instead of our first! I highly recommend Discovery Sea Kayaking and will definitely be back again! Can't wait to do the night one!

We had a fantastic outing at 10pm at night during twilight to see the bioluminescent algae/life in the water. To set expectations - this isn't phosphorescence that you'd see elsewhere. The bay was calm, the kayak ride (tandem - two people in a kayak) peaceful on a night with clear skies. There were two great guides Abby and Brandon for our group of 5 kayaks and 10 people, and they were so knowledgeable about the area and the biology. We got to see the Milky Way too. If it's a calm bay and a clear night between May and Sept - GO! You won't regret it. It's an out of the world feeling to be in this beautiful place looking up at the sky and seeing bioluminescence in the water as you row.

Just finished the 3-day/2-night kayak trip around San Juan Island and surrounding Islands. This company, our guides Adam and Jeff are awesome! The experience was top-notch! The equipment was top of the line. The meals were spectacular (veggie and dairy-free options), fresh prepared at camp each night, lunches on the beach each day. We even had beer and wine each night! It is an adventure every day, not easy; but never too hard. Adam and Jeff always made sure we knew what we were about to experience and pointed out all the uniqueness of the water, the wildlife (we even saw Bigg's whales from a distance) and the island history. Thanks Jason, Kelly, Adam and Jeff!

Paddling up to Jones Island for our first night. Site #24 is to die for.

Our trip was late-season, to celebrate our 10-year anniversary. We vacationed in the San Juan Islands and the highlight was the 3-day kayak camping trip we took. Our guide, Ellie, was fantastic! We saw all sorts of critters, camped in the best site on Jones Island, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Cannot recommend more highly!

It's truly amazing to be kayaking on the same level as the Orcas as opposed to a "traditional" whale watch boat.

It was just after noon when I was on the False Creek Seawall approaching Science. I needed lunch and a cold drink and I remembered a friend had recommended RTB to me. The GPS on my phone soon promptly took me there. It was after the lunch rush by the time I got there. It wasn't very busy and I was able to find a table on the patio after I had placed the order. I took my Road Trip Classic Lager with me to the table while I waited for my corned beef hash with fried eggs. The lager was crisp, light and refreshing and it went down quickly but I made sure there would be enough left with my lunch. My over easy eggs on the hash was fried perfectly with brown edges while the yolks were still running to allow the creamy cholesterol goodness seep down to the potatoes and corned beef pieces underneath. The hash was seasoned perfectly with no spices overpowering the potatoes and corned beef pieces. I had a very nice lunch in a somewhat industrial surroundings. Other than a transport truck backing in to the loading dock next to the patio when I was there, everything else seemed to have come to a standstill affording the patrons a lazy Friday afternoon.

The following were our favorites: Favorite white - Siegerrebe and Suzee Quattro Favorite red - Three Amigos We ended up buying 6 bottles - one of the Siegerrebe, two of the Suzee Quattro, and three bottles of Pinot Noir since it was wine of the month and was on sale (2 bottles for the price of 3). I am guessing owners house is in another corner as there is a bungalow on one side but i might be wrong. Wine yards are parallel on both side of the front yard. Its popularity was more than i thought. As we were there for over half an hour, we noticed visitors ,frequenters flocking the place on scooters, bikes. Its coz this is quite central to surrey and on the other side to vancouver. Well all have fun touring wine yards.

I was early and hit up Banner Bank first--they had an amazing spread that was very generous of them (and that was rare to find). But my first vintner gave me what was a swallow--which I first thought meant he wanted to see if I liked the wine sufficiently to pour me a reasonable taster. Nope! I was relieved to find others were more generous, but I can't say I had $25 worth of wine that night. Also, being first-up was easy, then as time went on, long lines in a crush of people. One thing I did like was getting to see some shops downtown that I wasn't aware of. Some people might really love the whole experience--but, for someone like me, I'd rather just wander around freely and try different places on my own little wine jaunt. I would love to offer suggestions for making it a better experience, but I don't know...needs for what it is kind of dictate what it pretty much has to be, maybe...

This year was my first year participating and I had such a great time! I even found a bunch of businesses I hadn't ever visited, and ended up buying a few bottles of the featured wines (they are all available for sale at Vinostrology for easy one-stop post-event shopping). Let me tell you a story about how Seth saved me from a dumb dad move and thereby saved my weekend -…read more Busy weekend out on the island with the fam, lots of hustle and bustle - in the midst of a couple days where it feels like nothing is going quite right on the family front. Looking to turn things around, I decide to install the kid seat on the back of my wife's bike for our 2 y.o. so we can do the ol' family bike ride (that'll fix it!). In a moment of overzealousness though, I give that over-tight, cheap screw in the back of her bike a turn-too-many with the allen wrench: it's stripped, but maybe salvageable. But what do I do? I think, "I can still get it...." So I jump back in there: cheap screw vs. cheap allen wrench, and I send that screw straight to The Land of No Return. It's never coming out now. Enter Seth and Meat Machine. Now, mind you, I had already been down there the day before - or my wife had - for another bike-related issue (I told you - it was that kind of weekend). So, I limp in there, figuratively speaking, and in my shame I present El Strippo to Seth. What does he do? He doesn't make my feel bad. He doesn't hesitate. Immediately, almost un-questioningly, he throws that bad boy up on the lift. He explains that this is not going to be easy and expresses concern that he'll break the head off the screw and then it's done (the seat is never going on in that case). He tries one expensive hex after another. No dice. Last resort: he busts out the blow torch. "Let's put a little heat on it." And he does, and, like magic, that baby starts to move! With the turning of the screw, hearts lift, hope returns - the screw it out. The day - the family bike ride - is saved. No charge. I headed outside and, literally, the clouds cleared (though I'm not sure I credit Seth with that one). But he and Meat Machine did save the day, no doubt. Great little shop. Friendly helpful guys.
