I've been a longtime customer of Baytown Seafood in Victoria and have always enjoyed the food, which makes this experience especially disappointing. I placed an online order for pickup for my family--over $90 for just me, my wife, and our toddler. I received a text message saying the order was ready, so I went inside to grab it. The restaurant was very busy with the dinner rush, and no one was at the front counter. I clearly saw my bag sitting there with my name on the receipt--and it was the only order on the counter--so I took it and headed out. As I was walking to my vehicle, a woman ran after me yelling, "Hey, stop." I stopped, and she asked if the order was mine. I told her yes and that my name was on the receipt. After that, her tone changed and became very sarcastic. She told me, "Next time I would appreciate you letting someone know you're picking up your order," in a way that felt very condescending. I replied that it had my name on it and that I wouldn't take anything else. As I walked away, she muttered something along the lines of "that was rude" or "you're rude." What really bothered me is that she said she was trying to verify the order--but never actually did. She didn't ask for a receipt, ID, or name. The whole interaction felt unnecessary and unprofessional. Once I got home, I called the restaurant to address what happened. I was told the woman's name was Angela--and that she is a manager--which honestly shocked me. I then asked the person I was speaking with to put me on the phone with her directly. When I spoke with Angela, I explained that I was picking up my own order--not someone else's--and she responded, "How am I supposed to know that?" I told her again that the order was mine, that I had paid for it, and that I was not a delivery driver. In a very condescending tone, she repeated, "Well how am I supposed to know that? I followed protocol. I did nothing wrong." Every time I tried to respond, she cut me off by saying, "I'm talking, I'm talking," in a way that felt like she was speaking to a child rather than a paying customer. If that's the case, then it goes both ways. I was a paying customer who had just spent a lot of money on dinner for my family. I saw my order clearly labeled with my name, knew it had already been paid for, and picked it up so I wouldn't have to wait any longer than necessary. How am I supposed to know about some "protocol" that customers are never informed of? I completely understand wanting to make sure orders go to the correct customer, but the way this was handled--especially by a manager--was unacceptable. Talking down to customers, refusing to listen, and placing all the blame on the customer is not good service. I've loved Baytown Seafood for years, but after this experience, I likely won't be returning and will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Staff is friendly enough, property is pretty old, but it's as clean as something roughly 40 years old in a small town is gonna get. Menu has a variety of fried, blackened and Cajun favorites. This is not a place to order a salad, you know that and know that but just in case you don't know. All salads are served with crunchy water (iceberg) and whatever dressing that is available at Walmart. Food is good here although you will get your dietary sodium needs for the next few days. So don't tell your doctor. It's worth an occasional drop in though when you have a hankering. read more

Today our family reunion was held at Baytown Seafood in Victoria Texas. A total of 25 guests were present. The manager, Angelina was incredibly accommodating to our needs. She aligned, at our request, a seating area generally not used for such a large party. Our server was Pedro who did a phenomenal job (solo) in taking our orders. Came in for a baked potato and boudin balls. The boudin balls were chewy, not crispy and not very flavorful. Had 2 and threw the rest away. The baked potato wasn't great. I haven't been here in years but in the past I liked what I got, this time just left me disappointed. I heard good things about this reastaurant, i went on a date with my girlfriend, she loves seafood, she asked if she could have the shrimp grilled and they said no, they couldn't grilled them, even tho they sell grill seafood. What I don't get it why don't you just grilled the shrimp and change extra if you need to! That's what other restaurants do! Also lady brought us our drinks and she never came to ask if we needed a refill. Outside architecture denotes a fancy seafood place. Inside is a well cleaned socially distinctive eating establishment. They got his down. Check. Cable TV check. Neon bar signs, check. Ubiquitous seas food shabby chic. Check Innovative wine glass lighting, check. Old previous 1990's retro Victorian styled dinning room. Check. Check. Muddy colored sea life mural. Check. But I digress. So it's not the interior you are coming to see check. Waiting to see who wins the decoration. I'm pulling for the slim liner tray and red & blue wine glass pendant look. I've visited Baytown Seafood several times and usually enjoyed the food, but this recent visit was disappointing. I ordered the fried shrimp and fish special, and things started off badly with a wilted, browning salad. I didn't complain since I've eaten worse at home. The entrée looked fine at first, but the shrimp turned out rubbery, greasy, and overcooked. After eating most of my shrimp, I noticed the batter peeling off and the shrimp inside was yellow--definitely not normal. We didn't say anything since we'd already eaten most of the food and the service was very slow, despite the restaurant being nearly empty. I left feeling nauseous and won't be returning. read more

This is a great little seafood restaurant been to a couple times and I am never disappointed. Quality seafood, this is not a large chain crappy seafood place. You get what you pay for and at this restaurant you are paying for quality food. You get a decent amount so it's not small plates and high prices. The wait staff has always been courteous and nice. I have never had a problem with slow food order or slow service. If you are in Victoria looking for a nice restaurant this is a nice quality restaurant. I ordered the lunch special red snapper with étouffée, rice, and vegetables. It was delicious and it was only $12.00. The snapper was perfectly cooked and the rice was fantastic. I believe they served wild rice and it was a nice departure from white or fried rice. The vegetables were sautéed well and had a buttery flavor. We have been here several times but last night was the best visit so far. The food was great and so was the server. Amber provided excellent service! Always quick with refills and a smile, very friendly and had perfect timing. Last night we started with Boudin balls, they are always wondering ( ate them so fast I forgot to snap a pic). My wife got the fried catfish and I got the green pork chops. I have had almost everything from their grill before and the are all good. I got the pork chops again because they are so very flavorful. They serve them on top of grilled veggies and this veggies soak up the flavor of the meat and they are awesome. The catfish was light flaky and very delicious. We both had the coleslaw instead of salad and it proved to be a good choice, it's very flavorful. The hostess and the Manager were also very friendly and both of them invited us back. We will be back and we'll ask for Amber. Saturday night a week later We got a to go order and it was amazing. They cut holes in the containers to let the steam vent, so the food didn't get soggy without it getting cold. It was hot, crispy and delicious. Our entrees were oyster poboy and crab cake with shrimp & rice. Just as tasty! Will for sure return.
