Writing on behalf of the Bayview Hospital Clubhouse. Mind you, they have multiple facilities and they share their location with Paradise Valley/View Hospital. So far, the Bayview Hospital Clubhouse staff has been inconsistent with the paperwork. I've been trying to apply for a membership for nearly 2 months now. Other clubhouses take within a week to process. I did call ahead of time, but each secretary keeps giving me the wrong information, or there's a delay. The clubhouse itself is very small, there's 4 trailers. Two of them serve as a men and women restroom, the other is their office, and last one is a lounge. They have a very small garden & run down basketball court. Parking sucks for sure. It's tight, narrow, feels like a maze when you're trying to find parking. I had to park near Carl's Jr. But there are times where I had to park across the street or a nearby residential area. With that said, the staff appears to be friendly, and during my last three visits, there not a lot of people, and not much going on. read more

My sister was almost sent to Bayview Behavioral Health, but thank God she was redirected to a civilized facility where the staff actually cares. After reading the horrifying public comments and reviews about Bayview, I am incredibly relieved she escaped that experience. It is heartbreaking that, in this day and age, vulnerable people in desperate need of mental health support are still being subjected to this environment. Came to get emergency medication due to a mental health crisis. I was told to move on from my SA, and that people were assaulted worse than me. And that i should be grateful that I'm not bed ridden and that I'm here getting meds today. When I wanted to leave from how I was told to move on from the absolutely worst thing that's ever happened to me, they wouldn't let me leave for 30 minutes. I spoke to the supervisor who understood the situation, but they sent the same lady in to check me out! So unbelievably unprofessional. Talk about kicking someone when they are down. This place does not care about your mental health. They gave me resources that don't exist or take my insurance. That was 2 days ago. I called to talk to someone again to tell them that their resources don't work. The lady said I was being rude & ppl don't talk like that to her. Ok. This is not the place for any help. Apparently my anxiety was rude. The only rude person is the receptionist. Begging for mental help & I'm rude. This place will give you more anxiety going in for help. Horrible if you need help. It was like in "One Flew The Cuckoo's Nest" movie as mentioned in the other comment. However, I don't blame the staff, they took good care of you, checked the vitals often, and gave all the medicine, except nicotine gums, plus free food. I blame the fucken police who put me there and would give them zero stars. I got detoxed from alcohol and cigarettes for 2 days. I would not recommend it to anyone. read more

Don't believe what this people say about Bay view ! I was talking to a supervisor woman of the 3rd floor on 3/4/24 about my concerns on a patient and she started putting words in my mouth and accusing me of saying to leave patient in there for good !! which i told her i never said not to let the patient out ! I know eventually they will release him! And nothing like to leave him locked for ever was even said at all! I only called to address my concerns on the patient so they can better help him and pass the info to his Dr. And actually i wanted to speak to his Dr. but this supervisor said there is no Doctors there , and that they only come at a certain time and leave till next day!! which to me it doesn't seem right ..because what if their is a life emergency. case , and no Doctors avail in a mental hospital?? Thats seems very strange... Anyway when i told her to not be putting words in my mouth .. she called me a bitch and hung up the phone! I kept calling back and the guy that answers kept sending the call to her , but she put the answering machine on!! This woman needs to be admitted as a patient! Because she sure has mental issues herself ! Or if this job is affecting her mental health then she needs to move on to another job vs taking her frustration on others I'm sorry if i sound to blunt but that is not the way to treat a family member who is concern for their patient I can just imagine how cruel this woman can be to this patients if she has any contact with them!?? read more

The nurses lie and ignore you, the doctors are completely incompetent and condescending. I was talked about me like I wasn't there, threatened with a 5150 if I didn't take meds that have a paradoxical effect on me. I have so much more but I am saving it for my attorney. 8/19 2:40pm i see other reviews mentioning the supervisor lady and i had the same terrible experience talking to this person over the phone. i was trying to pass a message along to a social worker because i had concerns about my mother i wanted to share. she proceeded to interrupt me, make me feel bad about not wanting my mom to return home thinking she knows my mother better than i do, putting words into my mouth, then hanging up abruptly. they're not allowed to drop my mom back to our house because we said no. i said i didn't want her to come back home and she tells me quite rudely that they can't keep my mom at the hospital forever. i never said i wanted her to stay there forever. I was patient and understanding and nice and this sad person was just rude, uncaring, and condescending. If you cannot offer help you can at least carry yourself with decency and act like you at least care. You dedicate your life working in this field and this is how you decide you will treat people? Professions may need to be reconsidered here. read more

Don't go here for mental health emergencies. Go to nearest emergency room and you will have better chances of getting help and sent to a facility for attention. Call mental health emergency line if u need someone to assist you with an emergency or need to talk. read more

This is where they put you if you're homeless. The infamous 3rd floor, even if you have insurance. You won't get the medication you need or much of a chance to talk to any doctor. If you do, your requests are ignored. I literally felt like I was serving time here. There's hardly any groups or activities. As hospitals go, it's one of San Diego's dirty little secrets. read more

Don't send loved ones here for help. Doctor only gives u 2 question evaluations. Doesn't inform u of much keeps u in the dark. Shower sucks it's either to hot that ur burning ur self or. They had bomb food. The whole food pyramid every meal. I only got sick after I left the hospital.

My wife was taken there for her oun safety. No calls from the doctors or staff. My wife was allowed to sign herself out, without having her purse which is at home. She has no ID, money, housekeys, nothing but the clothes on her back. That was 1 week ago, I filed a missing persons report with the police, still no sign of her. I am sick with worry and pray she makes it home. I don't care where you take your loved one to but keep them safe and STAY AWAY from this place. read more

I see a lot of bad reviews on here and I get it. No one likes to be in this situation and no one likes to see a family member in this situation. However I was taken in on a 5150. The WORST possible day of my life. The cops and paradise hospital were horrible to me. By the time I arrived at bayview I was frustrated and angry. The staff here was AMAZING in showing me they understood. No one took my anger to heart and the next few days were beyond helpful in my situation and even provided me with a outpatient program to attend after my release. I would have NEVER got the help I needed if it wasn't for this place. Thank you!! read more

I'm giving two stars, because you're a step above Promise, but not by much. Only one staff member who actually talked to patients. No groups ran during my stay because they didn't have enough staff. I was almost assaulted by another patient and was told by someone on the nursing staff that I should've known she would do that because she was slamming around in the room. Instead of them realizing they shouldn't put a patient into a shared room with someone who is prone to violence. read more

My husband was hopitalized there for 3 days, and I can never get hold with the doctor in charge. All I can do is to leave voice messages to his phone, and I never get a phone call back. No one seems to know whats going on in there. they never told me why he is still on hold, and when he will be discharged, i think they are keep him for insurance benefits. read more

I totally agree with the woman who's husband was there for 3 days. My daughter is there right now and this is her third day. The only time a doctor came in was yesterday morning and he spend maybe 60 seconds with her. He was arrogant and when she asked about getting out because she is perfectly finenow he made a nasty remark basically saying no and promptly walked off. This is without talking to her at all. Now, she is getting out tonight close to 3:00 AM in the morning. She has to leave at that time or sign a paper saying she wants to stay there and then having to go through the whole process of being checked out and waiting for the doctor to MAYBE signing her paperwork to let her leave. read more

Disregard the fact that they forgot to put my phone in my personal belongings and the taxi had to drive back to get it, that was the least of my many concerns. I checked myself into an emergency room Friday night because suicidal thoughts resulting from a recent traumatic experience, and they sent me here. All day Saturday there was nothing to do, no group, no activities, and by this point I have explained my story and my suicidal thoughts to over a dozen nurses/social workers/etc. This is so they can "assess" me, but with all the assessment, there was no solution. They just told me to wait for the doctor, and he could come at any time. All this time sitting around waiting with NOTHING to do drove me even crazier and made my suicidal thoughts more powerful. Their excuse for this is that they don't do much on the weekends (would it be more convenient if i tried killing myself on a tuesday??) FINALLY at 8 pm the doctor gets here, he calls me up to speak to him THROUGH A WINDOW (not intimate at all), i barely get to finish one sentence and he says he'll see me tomorrow, "that is all". My life is in danger and that's all the time this arrogant jerk has for me? The next day he was earlier and I had a somewhat longer conversation, although he continuously interrupted me, showing no concern or sympathy whatsoever. He gave me permission to leave that hellhole though, and within hours I left. I could not believe the way that man spoke to me, and that absolutely nothing was done at any point to help or treat me. This place needs to be closed down, hire new staff, and as for "Dr. Google" or whatever his name is, his license must be revoked and he should be in jail. I walked out of that place more depressed and suicidal than when I walked in, and if that's the effect he had on me, I can't imagine how much harm he's done to other people. read more

I stayed here several years ago after having a crisis over a breakup. When I was being reviewed by the intake nurse I felt like I was being interrogated. I was in a really bad place with violent tendencies and I was not shown compassion for how I feeling at the time, nor was I asked what was prompting the feelings. Instead I was threatened to have the police come and take me. I did not have any sleep the night before and my blood pressure was measured and it was dangerously high due to the stress of the interview. I was finally admitted in. I should not have been treated in such a manner especially since I was in a very vulnerable state of mind. I was put in level 3, the level for the most dangerously mentally ill. after a day there the staff realized I was not really dangerous at all and sent me to level 2. There was not much to do there between the group meetings at all. At those times I just ended up walking up and down the hall because I was so bored, which is definitely not good for someone who is coming out of a crisis. I remember the Dr in charge mocking me for the fact that I was getting those kind of thoughts. Didn't he realize that mocking someone who was in that state would not help the person who was in that state? I only saw him for about 5 min. I remember being woken up at 6:00am just to have your vitals taken. Didn't the staff know that mentally ill patients need their sleep to recover? The only people who really helped me were the social workers, they actually listened to my situation and were very helpful but I only saw them once during my stay. Another helpful person was the young nurse who gave us free haircuts. He was very kind and also the man who played music for us. He really seemed to care. The other staff didn't seem to care and seemed to gossip about the patients behind the glass wall of their desk. The food was really unhealthy, high fat and high carb with a minmum of fruits and vegetables and I gained about 5 pounds from staying there 3 days. I was never explained about my diagnosis, BPD 1, with how I got this illness, with how I can manage it and prevent episodes in the future, nor their reasoning on how they came to a conclusion that I have BPD1. Instead I was sent home with some medication and a two page pamphlet on BPD1 that was printed from the internet. It felt like a prison to me, my parents who visited felt like it was a prison. I felt like a prisoner, punished for what I have and what I was feeling at the time, instead of listened to and actually helped. Its places like this that perpetuate the stigma of having a mental illness. Unfortunately it was the only place available in South San Diego region. A sign of how Americans think about people with mental illness. Oh, and there was no view of the bay. read more
