This is the first hospital that has ever listened to me, believed all the and encouraged me mentally gratitude and thankfulness could never come close to how I feel for this hospital. This is my first time being a patient at this Sharp Memorial Hospital Emergency Room Department on Friday, June 12, 2026. I was transported by this Falk Ambulance from this AFC Family Urgent Care Clinic to this Sharp Memorial Hospital Emergency Room. I was told to call the 911 Emergency Dispatch Service so I did call right away from my Apple IPhone XR. I have a serious medical condition that has cause some swelling and redness in my right leg. I also felt very lightheaded and weak. After I called 911. This Falk Ambulance with these 6 Firemen came over to pick me up 5 minutes later. The Ambulance put their siren on in this shopping mall parking lot. I was picked up from 2 Paramedics who was Ashley and her partner. I was placed in a Gurney with these several seat belts across my body and I was given a blanket by Ashley a paramedic . Then I said to Ashley I want to be driven to SHARP MEMORIAL EMERGENCY ROOM HOSPITAL ASAP. Ashley said that's okay with her. Then I arrived at the back end of Sharp Memorial Hospital Emergency Room. I had to wait in their Emergency Room hallway with 2 Falk Ambulance Paramedics until I was checked in at their Registration Office by Elizabeth. After Elizabeth checked me into their computer system then Elizabeth took my blood pressure. My blood pressure showed a high level because usually I always have a lower blood pressure reading. Then Elizabeth said she said I will need to be checked into their Triage Counter where they'd was the one nurse named Michael. Michael took my blood pressure again a second time then my blood pressure went down a little bit lower. Then I had to go back into their gurney and stay with these 2 Paramedic's until I was assigned a bed in the Emergency Room. I only had to wait about 10 Minutes later in the Emergency Department until Ashley this new younger lady paramedic in training told me that my bed is on the first floor in Room D29. I was in this average size room by myself. Ashely and her partner wheeled the gurney over to the bed and Ashley helped me to moved into the new Emergency Room bed. Then I saw Ashley and her partner take the gurney I was laying down in and push it towards their Ambulance and they left the Emergency Department. Then I saw first person I talked to that came into my room was Pam she was the nurse and she said she is going to take my Blood Pressure again to see if my blood pressure has gone down recently. My blood pressure was still high at 153/71. Then Pam said I needed to change into their hospital gown and also I had to remove my socks from both feet because Dr. Mazerek their Emergency Room Doctor will be taking my pulse using my both feet. While I was waiting , I felt very cold in the hospital bed. I asked Pam to please get me 2 blankets and to heat them up in their warmer machine. Pam came back to my room 15 minutes later and she put these 2 warm cotton blankets on top of my body. The 3rd person who came to visit me was this Asian Lab Technician. Long said he's here to give me a CBC Blood Test. I said please use a thinner needle when he extracts blood from my Vein in my left arm, Long did use a very thin needle and he also filled up 3 empty tubes of blood from my left arm. Long the Lab Technician was wearing Black Scrubs with a gold cross necklace. That was his outfit. Long said he's here to should get the Results back from my Complete Blood Count in 2 hours later. I said Thank you Long. Before Long left my Room, Ling said He always pokes people first, then he asks his questions later that day! I laughed really hard and so did Long. After Long left my room. My nurse Pam walked back into my room, I asked Pam if she can get me a cup of Chocolate Pudding or a cup of Strawberry Jello? I haven't eaten anything in 4 hours. Pam my nurse said my Doctor Mazerek doesn't want to give me any food now because in case I might need surgery then the food will be messing up the surgery. I just had to wait for several hours before Dr. Mazerek gave me the okay to eat food Then Carley introduced herself to me, Carly said she is Sharp's Memorial Hospital Emergency Room Ultrasound Technician. Carly told me their Sharp Memorial Hospital is very unique because Carly said she is bringing me their Ultrasound Machine to get tested on in my room . Instead of making me be wheeled into a wheelchair then be transported to a separate room to get my Ultrasound Test taken in that room. I told Carly her bringing me their Ultrasound Machine to me is more convenient for me. read more

I had to visit SHARP MEMORIAL ER, for a few problems. I have to say that the staff of NURSES AND DOCTORS were top of their game. INDEED, they immediately took care of 2 of 3 of my Problems, which I had hoped for. ER DOC Buckley and Hospital Doc Doctor DAN ZHENG took very, very good care of me. When I was admitted to the hospital, Nurses SAM and YAEL, and Alyssa also were there and supportive. FOOD SERVICES provided great food from the start, Ravioli with Cheese. Breakfast was Eggs, Pancakes and Bacon. My NURSE, gave me a Diet COKE!!! I also have to say something about the OBSERVATION ROOM, very nice and roomy, AND DECORATIVE. PT Kelsey came to see me in my room and ordered a smaller, collapsible walker for my apartment. In the NEW ROOM on the NEXT DAY, they performed lots of different tests. FURTHERMORE, I was able to do some walking around the 5th Floor, with the help of Nurse Assistant ASHEWA. I would say that Nurse BRIAnA, could use some tips on bedside manners, THOUGH!!! On my Second or Third Night, NURSES Anna and Wilma were both back to help me, THANK GOODNESS!!! I especially want to thank Wilma, for her help with my Shower. UNFORTUNATELY, Nurse 'BRI' Brianna showed up the next day as well. I felt that did everything she could ( or actively worked against the needs of the patient/ME), to make my stay AS UNPLEASANT AND AS UNCOMFORTABLE, as possible. It just may be her NURSING NATURE, which is sad for her, and SHARP!!! I had a fantastic experience with my MRI, once getting there. I want to give a shout out to the whole team of GABRIEL, SEAN, and DOMINIQUE!!! I have a bad back and doing these things can be painful, but they provided a Triangular Wedge for my legs. In addition, they provided a pillow for my neck. I'm now 1 THING/treatment away from going HOME, but of course I'm in the hands of Nurse Bri. I can't say CHARGE NURSE HEATHER, has been a stand up Charge Nurse. On my last night, it was a whole new world with a whole new staff', including RN CONNOR, NAWIT AND CHARGE RN SHANNON. From how he treated my bloody nose or how he dispensed medication. THEN, during my shower, CONNOR changed the sheets on my bed for the first time. MY PINK HAIRED NURSE Rhiannon saw to it that my discharge went as flawless as possible, coordinating with my doctor and transportation!!! Thanks to ALMOST EVERYONE ON 6 NORTH!!! read more

I recently had an experience at Sharp Memorial Hospital that I feel compelled to share. My brother was admitted to the emergency room early in the morning of February 17, 2026 around 8 pm. While we understand that emergency situations can be unpredictable, it took them nearly nine hours for him to be assigned a room on the 5th floor. This wait was quite concerning, especially given the urgency of his condition. Once he was finally settled in, we encountered a significant issue with the registered nurse in charge, Brittnay (employee number 6836). Unfortunately, her attitude left much to be desired. She seemed to believe that she was above everyone else, and any questions we asked were met with a dismissive response, as if she were doing us a favor by engaging. This lack of empathy and professionalism was disheartening and truly overshadowed our experience at the hospital. On a more positive note, I want to commend another nurse, Sara (employee number 5107), who was a bright spot during our stay. She exemplified what nursing should be--compassionate, attentive, and genuinely caring. I would rate her a perfect ten out of ten. Her demeanor and professionalism made a significant difference in a stressful situation, and she deserves recognition for her outstanding care. In conclusion, while I appreciate the services provided by Sharp Memorial Hospital, I believe there is a need for improvement in staff training, particularly in fostering a more empathetic approach to patient care. So far so good. First impressions count in the overall review for Sharp. Christy at the reception desk of the Patricia Payne Outpatient Surgery Lobby is an exceptional standout! Her demeanor, cheerfulness and helpfulness is outstanding in the most stressful situation (anyone undergoing surgery - big or small could relate to this). She was so pleasant and respectful to all the patients and family members arriving. From registration to the IV, preop nurses - everyone was so kind and privacy protected. In a profession where the every day routine is "routine," they made us feel special and not just another patient. Like I said, so far so good. read more

I have the best experience in this hospital as long as they took 6 and half hours in the ER which is that was my first time being that long in the ER but they took care of my mom very well with empathy and sympathy also. I visited the Sharp Memorial ER on 06/07/26 around 1:30 a.m. with a severe 10/10 gallbladder attack. I was crying, barely able to walk, and extremely scared. Despite this, no one offered help or a wheelchair. Instead, I was met with sarcasm ("We all have a gallbladder") and a series of questions I could barely answer while in pain. The staff showed no empathy or urgency. I had to move myself into a wheelchair. A nurse attempted an IV for about 15 minutes, repeatedly poking me and even mocking me while I prayed from pain. Another nurse asked unnecessary questions that were already in my chart once the system was back up. When I tried to explain that I was in too much pain to think clearly, she simply left the room. The doctor only came when I said I wanted to leave as I felt not safe to be under their care. He offered no comfort or explanation; just told me I could go. I left untreated and had to manage the attack at home. No patient in severe pain, scared, and unable to think straight should ever be treated this way. This night shift (1:30-3:30 a.m.) showed a complete lack of compassion and professionalism. Very disappointing and traumatic experience. read more

--One star for getting my daughter out of an emergency situation; --One star for the nursing staff (shout out to Randi, Ester and others) and support staff (Andee); --One star for ancillary support offered (meditation, music and massage therapy, visitation from therapy dogs) It's taken me quite a while to think about how I'm going to review this hospital, along with their affiliate Sharp network. Let me be clear from the get-go: I do not have all the details, since I do live out of state and much of the events were relayed to me via the patient and other family members that were there on site. BUT, since I did witness some turn of events and actually went to this hospital multiple times, I feel I can give a generally accurate review. After visiting a Sharp-affiliated urgent care clinic twice in a short period of time due to breathing problems, exhaustion, lack of energy, events of collapsing and instances of blurry/obscured vision, Sharp physicians determined that my daughter's asthma was the ultimate culprit. Pleading with them regarding the severity of her symptoms were dismissed. Their advice: increase your asthma medication. When symptoms did not subside (and actually got worse), and at the point of desperation, my daughter reached out to her uncle (a physician who practices near Los Angeles). She drove from her home in San Diego to her uncle's office where vitals were taken and blood was drawn for testing - as her skin was pale, her vision was sporadically impaired and she could not stand for any periods of time without collapsing. Asthma you say? Well, no, she was in the early stages of heart failure due to the onset of AML leukemia. My daughter, now back in San Diego, was advised by her uncle to get to an ER as soon as possible. She went to Sharp Memorial Hospital, and although initially dismissed regarding the severity of her symptoms, she was admitted due to an accelerated heart rate (taken while she was sitting, when your heart rate should be at its lowest). The ER docs actually called her uncle, though, wanting to know why she was there. Blood was drawn, and sure enough, a diagnosis of leukemia was confirmed. What followed was an over a month-long stay for her initial (induction) chemo treatment. AML leukemia in people under the age of 40 is rare; Sharp treated her to get her out of the emergency situation, true. But after that, their treatment was based, essentially, on how an over-60-year-old would be treated with leukemia, and not specifically the type of leukemia she has (after genetic testing which showed she had a rare mutation). Sharp should have known their limitations, been aware of it and advised her (and other family members who were present) of this. If treatment is out of your scope and medical realm, a referral to a specialist is warranted. This, however, did NOT happen. I tend to think they really didn't know what precisely to do to help her. Instances of bone marrow draws at 3 PM (meaning she could not eat anything until the procedure was completed) did not help. Why would you force a patient to literally go the bulk of the day without eating anything? Especially when you know chemo patients often have a limited appetite. When it became apparent that Sharp could not treat her adequately, her aunt (also a physician) facilitated her transfer to another hospital under a different doctor's care. I so wish Sharp and their physicians had been more up front, more honest with my daughter and with themselves about her particular genetic variant of AML and that it was, indeed, over their heads. Dragging your feet and delaying specific treatment can cause serious issues. Thank goodness we have family members who are licensed physicians who came to her rescue, proverbial red cape and all. She is, obviously, no longer at Sharp. She continues to go through leukemia treatment, but now is under the care of a specialist in the field - a specialist that our family had to locate rather than obtaining a referral from Sharp physicians. Sharp never once offered, nor encouraged, a referral to a specialist for her rare mutation of leukemia. read more

I don't even know where to begin. I was admitted to the ER due to a kidney stone which I didn't realize I had a kidney infection because the stone turned out to be blocking me from peeing. They took me back in a room right away and started taking blood and urine samples. The had me go thru the CT scan and turns out that it's a 11 mm stone not passable so they put a tube thru my right kidney to drain the infection. I was admitted to the hospital for over 5 days because I went septic and need round the clock care. The food was terrible it really makes you want to just get up and walk right out but I was really weak. I had my husband stay with me after I had a weird incident with a male Dr that gaslighted me saying he didn't like special people lol I was like WTF doctors houldn't be able to treat patients that way he waited for my husband to leave when he came in I was alone with him and I didn't feel safe I only complained a few months later because I was afraid something was going to happen to me while I was there. I requested my medical records to find out who this male Dr was because he wasn't in charge of treating me and I never saw him again after that encounter. I found out that the doctors at this hospital aren't employed thru them they are all independent contractors I think it's because they want to cover their butts so they don't get sued for bad practices. And what was really a joke they only offered me Tylenol I had a 11 mm kidney stone JFC what a joke they treated me like a drug addict because I wanted something stronger. I hope I never have to go to this hospital again! The nurses for the most part were cool but the doctors I dealt with were robotic and unempathic. read more

A special thank you to Jocelyn R and Jessica R from Unit 5 North. They were extremely professional, welcoming, and attentive throughout my stay. They both went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable and well taken care of, which made a difficult time much more pleasant. I would also like to recognize RN Arturo, who demonstrated incredible compassion and professionalism. His dedication to patient care did not go unnoticed and was greatly appreciated. The staff on this unit truly made my stay much more comfortable, and I'm grateful for the care and kindness they showed me. Such an excellent hospital, with Doctor Malik, and nurses Cindy, and Margaret, to name but a few of this really caring hospital. Everyone is soooo nice to me. Plenty of movies. Cable TV and the fare are better than some of the restaurants I've been to, very modern. Every room is a private room. I arrived at the ER at 6 AM Sharp and was in my private room, every room here is a private room, at precisely 10AM. The food is better than many restaurants here in San Diego, with extensive selections and menus. I forgot my cell phone charger and they happily provided one for me. The staff is good, always polite, and courteous no matter who I speak to. They do everything fast, no wasting time waiting and waiting not here. They are expanding this already thoroughly modern hospital. read more

My mom had been on a different floor at this same hospital for gallbladder surgery 1 week prior, and the experience was terrible. Not a great experience. My husband went into this ER March 29 with shoulder pain. This was at 7am at the end of the docs shift. They did an x-ray and stated everything was fine, probably soft tissue problem. My husband at this point was in extremely painful. He never asks for pain killers but the pain was level 10 so he asked for pain management. The ER doctor refused. He went home and after multiple sleepless nights another doctor looked at the x-ray and stated the humorous was fracture right below the armpit. This doctor reccomended we talk to the original doctor from the ER. Mind you my husband has not been able to get any doctor to treat his arm. So we called the ER doctor and left a message. Never recieved a call back. We called today and spoke to charge nurse Sergio. Sergio was condescending the whole time, then stated it was the radiologist falt not the doctor the saw my husband. All we want is MRI of his arm and for him to be treated. You tell me if it's okay for this ER to release people with fractures without treatment or pain management. We asked to speak to management multiple times and they refuse. We might have to get an attorney if his arm gets worse or heals wrong. read more

I came here today after visiting an urgent care clinic; however, since they lacked the necessary equipment to assess my pregnancy-related concerns, they issued a referral for me to be seen at this emergency room. It was a truly terrible experience! I am pregnant and had fallen on my back the day before; since then, I haven't been able to feel the baby moving, so I went in to get checked out. Yet, they treated the whole situation like a joke. I handed my referral slip to the receptionist at the check-in counter, but she didn't even bother to read it. She asked why I was there today, and I replied that I was pregnant and had fallen on my back yesterday. She turned to her computer to do something, then looked back at me and asked, "You fell?" I answered, "Yes," and pointed to the word "pregnant" on the referral slip. She asked again--"Pregnant?"--with an air of surprise, as if to say, "Really?" I thought to myself, "Well, obviously! I just told you that, and it's clearly written right here on the referral slip!" She didn't say another word; she simply handed back my ID and the referral slip, then let another staff member standing nearby take over. The ultrasound technician--named Mark L--who performed my scan was incredibly rude, and unprofessional. He tossed a towel in my direction and said, "Tuck this into your waistband"--the way he threw the towel toward my abdomen was truly disrespectful. He didn't say a single word throughout the entire ultrasound procedure. After a few minutes, my husband asked him if he could hear a heartbeat, but he completely ignored the question. I believe that, as an ultrasound technician--especially in the field of obstetrics--you have a responsibility to inform patients of what you are seeing and the current situation. This is particularly true when a patient specifically asks whether a fetal heartbeat can be detected--which was our greatest concern at the time, as we simply wanted to ensure that everything was fine and that the baby's heart was beating normally. I understand that ultrasound results require review and verification by a specialist before a final diagnosis can be issued; however, it was clearly visible on the screen that the fetal heart was beating, so why did you remain silent when the patient asked? You should have immediately shared that information with us to help alleviate our anxiety. Afterward, they sent us back to the waiting area. We were forced to wait nearly two hours before finally being called into an examination room to receive the results. We were consumed with worry for our child, fearing that the baby's heart had stopped beating or that there was some serious underlying issue, and all we could do was pray for the best. They treat this job like a damn joke--it is utterly callous and irresponsible. People don't go to the emergency room without a valid reason! In the medical profession, integrity and ethics must take precedence above all else; if these are not your guiding principles, you should find yourself a different career. read more

A few weeks ago I wasn't feeling well. Symptoms kept piling up on me. I tried all the obvious methods of self care and was not improving. I called a nurse, and told her all of my smptoms. She told me to come to the emergency room right away. I did. Finding parking in the dark with all the construction going on was tricky I passed the parking garage and had to turn around and go back to it. I had to go through a security check ointment which was fairly easy. The guard was friendly and helpful. He pointed me in the right direction to the desk. I was taken in right away, then diagnosed and admitted. Soon after that I was wheeled to my room, thus began several days of poking, prodding and testing. Everyone was nice friendly. The food service staff worked hard to serve me delisious nutritious meals. Many were rather small, but I was always given the opportunity to have snacks between meals. One favorite was the miso ginger glazed baked salmon. Another favorite was the pot roast. A lot of times they served me something diffrent than what I ordered. Not sure if they rainout or if my doctor ordered something diffrent. No complaints. The custodial staff made sure the room was clean. The doctors nurses, and assistants were all helpful attentive and friendly. They all worked together to keep me safe and comfortable and on the road to recovery.Thank you Sharps Memorial Hospital for all you did for me. read more

To: whom this may concern, I read some great reviews and testimonies in yelp from others experience at sharp and I had hope I can say the same for me as a love one & friend I've experienced as a visitor looking in. Since my boyfriend been admitting to sharps hospital it has been nothing but stress and frustration for me one day I'm allowed to see him and talk to him the next day I'm not all they could tell me is he's not taking visitor right now and talk to his sons on everything. My friend condition is serious and he needs to understand this. But at the same time the staff was not giving him any updates or information on what was going on with his health. He's been wanting to go home and the staff is keeping him from going home. They telling his family he wasn't able to home yet bcuz he hasn't fully recovered he went in there becuz of edema were his foot, legs & knees were swollen to much fluid build up around his heart and sharp staff showed some concerns moving on days pass he has gotten better all swelling came down and he's been waning to go home and still there. They tell us they have had a few misbehavior from him like wanting to leave the hospital and as he try's to leave he had a nurse that kept tugging at him and she supposedly got hit in the face, when I got there Stacey face look good there wasn't any marks on her face & saw no visual damage to her face they got other staff involved and strap him down from chest to wrist. When arrived Nothing was told to me until I started questioning his scrapes and bruises on his hands, arms and why he was strapped down, then I was briefly told that he tried to leave and hit a nurse so he strap down bcuz he was a danger to their staff they had call physic doctor to check him out after they gave him some medication for his anxiety & told me he wasn't fit to make his own medical decision! How can this be a solid evaluation mentally ? when they have him dope up on anxiety medication this man has never taken any kind of drugs his whole life how do you think that kind medication could affect him? Talking gerburish, in and out of sleep and awake droggy that mental evaluation that the doctor did was this accurate evaluation ? Now they are saying to his family is we want him to realize he's ill and he needs help and as soon as he able to comply with the staff & tell us what we want you to say & we might release you. this has become more than just about his sickness it's become about who's in empower over you! This is how I see their staff in charge trying to break his will and spirit! he's 75 yrs old he is who he is, can you train old dogs new tricks yes only if he was strip down to nothing anyway, to prove what I'm saying they sent him to a behavioral center, no visit and no calls bcuz they tell me he's not registered at the hospital and they can't help me where in the hick did he go? If this hospital were to focus on actually treating their coworkers nicely instead of treating the house keepers like they are nobody because they are cleaners and if they spent less time on focusing on firing people for any given reason. the whole "sharp experience" wouldn't be a front. We were on Vacation recently in San Diego. My girl on Sunday was bent over in pain during the night. So we brought her into Sharp's ER After a quick blood test she was admitted right away and went to critical decisions beds area. She ended up spending nine days with Sharp with a highly infectious kidney when a Cyst Burst and almost killed her. Sharp did everything they could to keep her comfortable and alive. They succeeded!! Even their COO came to visit to make sure, as a critical patient, that she was ok. She is home now and recovering. THANK YOU SHARP!! read more

There are many hospitals here in San Diego which have been the many centers many of them here in San Diego which have been the front-line centers of the of the fight against the Covid 19 when it had come upon the city and the many areas of the North County. The many people and the nurses that work so hard and the doctors that when you see through their there is much more and the many lives they save and the ones that pass away from the end. Sharps Memorial has so much in one Hospital to the many people that workday by day and the many that help in the evenings with the many patients that have surgery and other medical procedures. When I had to go to the Sharps Clairmont Hospital it was that of when I had broken my knee cap the paramedics that took me to the hospital, they had contacted the hospital to get things started upon the arrival. The hospital up0onm my arrival my epilepsy was hard and the doctors upon my arrival they were able to get me stabilized with my leg they told me the patella was broken in three sections. The emergency room crowded the doctors had me to a room in the ICU to get my leg looked at found that the break was in one solid form, yet the patella was in three sections no surgery needed. The doctors told me that I was being admitted to the hospital to get further exam and the leg to be examined by an orthopedic surgeon the doctors told me that my health had to be stabilized. The many people I saw the many doctors had checked me they were concerned for my health and wanted to have me stay over with my epilepsy and the break fracture of my right leg kneecap. That told they were concerned to have me traveling and the nurses were the most caring when it came to getting help. With the many hospitals that I have been to is the Sharps Clairmont Hospital showed me they are concerned and to have a person with epilepsy on the bus they helped me get home after the time my body was stabilized. With the many nurses that helped me through the medical calls with the times I had to have blood drawn checking blood pressure the nurses are the greatest and the great people that do so much caring for the many patients giving the caring ear to listen to your needs and to help with the kids that are scared the nurses can say are the best. For the long three days the hospital helped me with physical therapy helped me with the many areas of the therapy and the feel of trying to walk on the weight and getting used to my right leg. Therapy for the right leg it was one that was taking on the stretch and the feel of my foot on the floor the person who worked with me one of the best people. In closing the many things that I had seen, and the wonderful quality of care was above and beyond to have so many great people to work with so many and to be helped by the best nurses and the doctors. read more

Derek, Jeanette, Kelly, Ryan, Rico, Rhed, Sharon, Therese (she was so wonderful keeping my spirits high and was extremely attentive towards me when I wanted to cry), Tami, Teresa, Tia, Dylan, Vian, Elizabeth, Christina, Alex, Jose, Ashley, Rida, Sharon, Lauren, Verona, Rose, Alexis,Kyle and Gabi provided me with incredible service during my stay. Gabi (she was so attentive helping me with the pain in my arm while continuing the care for my abdominal pain). My liaison was Victoria she was so extremely nice. I was also lucky enough to meet Dana, the charge nurse who came in to check on me ....which you never hear of! It's unbelievable, the care you get here!!!!! They ALL had great communication skills, and a ready smile that made the experience even better than I expected. My Dr. Christina Rivera was exceptionally considerate and never made me feel like just a number. Empathy is a critical component and she rocked it! She treated me like family. So very compassionate. Her kindness and attention to detail was so appreciated. THEIR professionalism and enthusiasm exceeded my expectations. They took the time with me and really provided me with comfort and they never made me feel like I was a burden! This type of professionalism and commitment to the highest level of any patient's satisfaction has to be acknowledged. Having in mind such a pleasant experience with them it would be my pleasure to continue going here with any future situations in the following years to come. The ER is terrible my wife came in with breathing issues they took us back to the old ER and we came in at 6:30 she got x-ray of her chest and scans didn't see a doctor until 11pm. They did a CT she has pneumonia waiting for a room, will put you on antibiotics I left at 11:30pm came back it's 12:04 pm and she is still in the same bed and hasn't seen a doctor since when I left at 11last night and the nurses back here don't keep you updated or even really speak to you. The care is bad and they could learn to have better bed side manner, the nurses and phleb otomist have been very curt. This is one of the main reasons why I don't go to the hospital unless I'm dying. read more

My name is Paul Broadway. I married Marcia Mae Broadway nee Yost on March 30th, 1987 at L'amour à la fontaine wedding chapel on 5th Avenue in San Diego. She was the love of my life for the last thirty-seven years. I am writing to you because Marcia was medically abused by her Oncologist at Sharp HealthCare. Marcia died on August 27th, 2024 in her home while participating in end-of-life hospice. She died of stage four liver cancer. I allege that Marcia's doctor prescribed treatments that were based on the intent of charging the Medicare system unnecessarily. Marcia was placed on continuous chemotherapy with stage 4 liver cancer. Marcia would have lived longer on a course of palliative care. Marcia's final eighteen months were marked by losing her beautiful hair. Marcia was an actress; she could no longer get acting roles, due to the effects of chemotherapy. Marcia underwent the treatment prescribed by Dr. Ann Moeller under the belief that it would lengthen, not shorten her life. The course of treatment that Dr. Ann Moeller prescribed was unnecessary. Marcia suffered through unbearable pain and discomfort for no foreseeable gain. During the chemotherapy, Marcia experienced painful neuropathy in her legs that was beyond relief. Before the chemotherapy treatments, Marcia was a very active person who taught English as a second language, acted on stage, film, and television and she was an Ikebana Sensei. Once she began treatment under Dr. Moeller, she was constantly sick and listless. She lost interest in all activities. She could not stand or walk reliably. She could no longer go out to dinner with me. Marcia loved going to the restaurants in the South Park neighborhood of San Diego. Everyone knew her. The chemotherapy side effects prevented her from going to those restaurants. She suffered this torture for fifteen months before she died. Marcia's last months were a horrible new reality that Dr. Ann Moeller pushed Marcia to endure. Dr. Moeller convinced Marcia that chemotherapy was a probable cure for the stage 4 liver cancer that she was initially diagnosed. Dr. Moeller was more interested in ordering and billing Medicare for unnecessary chemotherapy and other procedures than improving Marcia's quality of life and health. The last billing statement that I received the amount billed was $1,215,283.36 for the year of 2024. Dr. Moeller chose one course of action to treat Marcia's cancer, she prescribed chemotherapy. Why would any Doctor. treat a stage four liver cancer patient with very expensive and debilitating non-stop chemotherapy? The only reason I can think of is to charge Medicare $1,215,283.36 in exchange for torturing my wife. I watched Marcia's health, personality and identity decline over that year and a half. I took care of my wife in hospice. I cleaned her. I changed her diaper. I medicated her through the pain. I was with her when she died. That is what makes me believe that the only reason why any Dr. would assign these unnecessary treatments; is because they are going to profit from it. My sweet wife was only 70 years old and a Medicare recipient. Marcia paid into the system. She worked hard her whole life. Marcia was on Medicare and Sharp Direct Advantage Gold Card (HMO). She was under the care of Dr. Ann Marie Moeller at the Sharp Memorial Cook Infusion Center In June 2024, Marcia was administered an aggressive dose of chemotherapy by the Cook Infusion Center. She was administered this dose, due to the results of a single PET scan that Dr. Moeller administered after over a year of chemotherapy infusions. Dr. Moeller had not ordered any scan up to this point in the treatment cycle. There was no other method of measurement for the progression of Marcia's stage 4 Liver cancer. Dr. Moeller told Marcia that the scan showed no reduction in the tumor size. Dr. Moeller convinced Marcia to sit for six hours in a chair being infused with chemotherapy. This resulted in a broken right hip and her subsequent death. Don't let this happen to you! read more

Beautiful facility! I brought my daughter's mother in law here because she was having symptoms of paralysis in the face. Always had excellent service here in the past - one thing I notice is each department calls patients so quickly they don't know where one or the other is making it look a bit disorganized. My daughter's mother in law was called into Triage quickly, EKG done quickly, roomed quickly. But had a terrible experience with the nurse taking vitals. She was not patient, she had difficulty understand the patient and my daughter was explaining the questions in a slower tone due to the barrier and the nurse Kaylynn was impatiently talking in a tone that was not friendly or welcoming. For someone who is experiencing these types of symptoms her tone was not compassionate, patient or understanding and made the patient a bit more anxious. We went to the front desk and the staff stated they would share with the info with the charge and when I asked the name of the nurse taking vitals staff was reluctant to provide her name. The first question was - well we're there symptoms not shared with us on the initial intake. I said no I'm asking because we are going to complete the survey, she gave me the name and stated she would let the charge nurse know. read more

FOR YOUR IMMEDIATE ATTENTION: ELDERLY PATIENT (97) IN SEVERE PAIN NOT BEING TREATED FOR SEVERE PAIN AT SHARP ER. URGENT MEDICAL PROCEDURE DELAYED DUE TO INCOMPETENCE. NEED ASSURANCE OF IMMEDIATE COURSE CORRECTION. HERE IS THE FULL PICTURE FOR CONTEXT: My dad was admitted to Sharp on 6/14/2025 in the evening. During the ER stay several tests were done and IV was placed in. He started to have antibiotics treatment via IV in ER. He is 97 y. old, does not speak English, demented and confused. I spent the whole morning till 2 pm with him in the hospital, had to leave after 2. During my stay he was properly medicated for pain and given abx on time. The MRI revealed 2 fresh SPINE fractures and CT confirmed large amount of fluid in pleural cavity. Dr. called me and gave me all details of his condition, and the plan was to have thoracentesis 6/16/2025 and continue pain meds IV q2h prn and antibiotics IV. Last dose of morphine was done at 15:00 on 06/15/2025 and no one since gave him IV meds to relief pain. Nurse called me at 2:48 am 6/16/2025 to ask to come in to calm my dad down, since his IV got bad and they needed to replace it and he was upset and didn't want to cooperate. he is CONFUSED AND DEMENTED!!!! He doesn't understand Russian as well at this time. I came in at 03:10 am and found him agitated, confused and moaning! I asked RN when his last pain med dose was - she didn't have any idea and went to look... It was 12 h ago! They also had standing orders for Ativan. They didn't give him Ativan to calm him down, last morphine was done at 3 pm yesterday, after we left and they didn't manage his pain and he is so confused, so he doesn't understand "pain" His primary RN is very young and probably a good person, but she needs to know how to deal with dementia and this age .. another RN came to start IV (4 other pokes were not successful) They do not have ultrasound machine to start iv, they are really so ... do not want to say bad, but maybe incompetent.... Finally, they brought a nurse who can do IV sono, but 2 pokes were not successful as well because of the pain and confusion. The easiest thing is to leave the pt alone in his pain and confusion and let the day shift deal with the problems... This is what they did! I called at 11 am today and was told that he still doesn't have IV and not getting his antibiotics and pain med and they are waiting for MD to come. Will MD start IV for them??? Then I had a call from radiology to give consent for thoracentesis - I gave it AND TOLD THEM that he needs to be sedated for that procedure... He can't be sedated without IV and he can't lay on the side and sit up because of the poor pain management! I called pt's relations and filed a complaint... Each hospital has a team in ED or ER to start IV. That is what I asked! Now its almost 6 pm and the thoracentesis wasn't done due "to pt being unable to hold still and needing a sedation" Treatment had been interrupted for almost 20 hours! Does it matter if a pt 20 years old or 90 years old if he/she is in pain??? Is the pain feels more in 20 y.o. VS 90 y.o? Why it is such age discrimination towards my Dad? Why nurses are busy with other patients on the floor and ignoring my dad's suffering? Why do I not have updates from the hospital staff? Why Radiology never called me back to inform me that procedure wasn't done, despite me asking MD to call me after? This is elderly abuse! Please help me with this such small thing to start IV STAT!!!! I am RN, work at ED at another hospital. I am so disappointed with the whole situation, we never had such an experience with Sharp before! And the last thing - I really appreciate our hospitalist and have no complains about her orders. read more

I had an ambulance rush my 78 year old, Stage 4 cancer patient Mom to Sharp Memorial on July 12th,2024.The paramedics determined she had Sepsis.At the ER, they first diagnosed her with Sepsis.Her white blood count was very high, she was shaking with chills, had a fever, could not walk due to weakness.They could not find a source of infection.They put her on oxygen, which improved that level.They gave her Tylenol, her fever went down.They discharged her. Said in her recors that her symptoms had resolved. I brought her home.The next morning she colapsed,hitting her head.She was rushed again to Sharp Memorial ER dept.By then it was now severe Sepsis. And Sharp supposedly has a Sepsis program.Maybe someone should tell those ER Drs. She died on July 31st, 2024. Two weeks later. Sharp Memorial ER drs never looked at her medical records.Three months before, her Dr noted a large cyst in my Mother's mouth, an infection.They NEVER looked in her mouth for a wound.Sharp's ER Drs can ingest a large bag of Richards. They are bumbling, inexperienced buffoons. And they are now rated a B hospital.I wonder why. Come on Leslie, offer me the number for patient relations.Because I have more than a few choice words for Sharp regarding their "STELLAR" Physicians. read more
