They no longer sell real caviar, and they lie about it. I bought some for New Year's 2025, I have been going there for the past 10 years to buy caviar. I spent $90 for 100 g of Kaluga and it was absolutely trash. I tried to return it and the female manager told me it was fine. She said oh it's oil caviar. Guess what there's no such thing as oil caviar. It was a very bad version of what they want you to think caviar is, it was completely degraded, soft and mushy, no nice little pop when you eat the eggs nothing! I went there to show it to her. She told me it was fine. It's not fine. I got sick. They just lost a good customer. I will never ever go back there ever. I am calling the Board of Health. I'm going to call the original manufacturer and I'm going to call the goddamn headquarters of that crappy ass Russian store. I am Ukrainian and I have never ever come across lying people as Russians at that store. read more

Awesome store featuring a huge selection of interesting delicacies and yummy treats and certainly, it's possible to do a full shop here. Huge deli counter with meats and cheeses and salads. Lots of packaged items. Fresh produce looked great and the dairy cooler was well stocked. I found a jar of taramosalata. Love this stuff and it's very hard to find. To start, I think it is important that you reset your expectations. The bazaar is a great little local shop filled with items you cannot easily find elsewhere. For example, home cooked delicacies and other imported goods. That said, this is not Whole Foods, they are much smaller in real estate and don't have everything under the sun. Additionally, although MOST of the items are of really good quality it won't hurt to do your due diligence and double check. I live right across the street and come here all the time. I have learned so much about a different culture just by being exposed to the items in this store and I really quite like that about the experience. Reasonably priced, nice staff, don't need to speak Russian (although definitely helps) read more

This place was dangerous to go into. My backpack was already half-full from Trader Joes. I was only supposed to be exploring some Russian store.. well.. I walk in and in your face are all the home foods you had when growing up in the Eastern Block.. (Belarus for me). I bought all 3 types of blintzes, the Greecian nuts filled with condensed milk, two cans of Taramosalata, their own pickled pickles, proper raspberry preserves (no jelly), two types of Kefir, and my god if I wasn't fasting I would have bought ALL THE PLOMBIR (Soviet full-fat Icecream), that I have not seen in 25 years. I saw the chocolate cheese blocks, the smoked and dried fish, the pickled squash, and the Kvas. (note: do not buy bottled Kvas, it is govno (crap), because Kvas is a fermented drink and should never be bought artificially carbonated! Sin of sins! It's like carbonating beer with CO2!) Brew your own Kvas as I do, its simple. So basically, how this ends is with me spending 15 minutes at the register trying to stuff my backpack, and I still left having to carry stuff with in my hands, hobbling like a hunchback with what felt like a wet sandbag lined with lead on my back. I'm glad I don't live nearby; I'd basically never shop elsewhere. read more

Last time I bought a half pound of nice looking Norwegian style salmon. When I came home I realized that the half of it was the tail, which was impossible to cut or to put on the table. I do love shopping here--so many interesting items that I'm not familiar with but curious to try out and they're very reasonably priced. My attempts have been really hit or miss probably because I don't speak Russian at all and am only learning about about the culture through this store, but I'm so happy with the gems I found that I can't help but keep trying! Feta cheese in containers, other blocks of cheese, black bread, rye bread, and the small dumplings have been awesome. They also occasionally offer fruit at a sale price, even cheaper than at Trader Joe's. All staffs I've interacted with have been nothing but polite and helpful. read more

Once upon a time, a little Brookline foodie was invited to a barbeque. Disillusioned by the same old burgers and hot dogs, she decided to wander into Bazaar to see what kinds of meats they had to offer. She wasn't disappointed - meats and cheeses of every kind awaited her, tempting her with their come hither looks. Package after package was offered, but she rejected each one, knowing that in her stomach of stomachs, the right one was out there for her. Determined to settle only for perfection, she turned the corner, and... Lo and behold! There was the perfect sausage! Fat and glistening, with the kind of girth that would make a good girl blush. But our intrepid foodie remained undaunted - without blinking an eye, she snapped up the sausage, grilled it into submission, tossed it into a waiting roll, and all around showed it who's boss. She would have asked how it liked its eggs, but, let's face it, that would have been just plain awkward. read more

I had been to Bazaar before, and my experience was always pleasant... but I will never go back. But I had also never ordered from their deli... Yesterday, I went in for a few simple items... I gathered them in my basket, and then went to the deli for 1 item: smoked salmon (lox). Since I don't know how the store works so well, I waited on the wrong side of the counter to get served, and one of women working at the deli counter pointed me to the side of the counter that says "order here". I wouldn't have had such an issue with it, but she was kind of condescending--I felt like I was a non-Russian, non-Russian speaker, almost getting made fun of by her because she had this smirk on her face as she pointed me toward the other side. (On top of which, I saw an older Russian man ordering from the side that she told me I could not order from) Anyway, I comply, and go to the "order here" side of the deli. There is a small line, a few people waiting. I wait patiently. I'm waiting for about 15 minutes because (a) there are about 5 women working behind the deli, but only 1 is taking orders, and (b) people are ordering a lot of food. I am still trying to remain patient. Finally, it's my turn to order, yet the oddest thing happens... another girl (not the original 1 who was taking orders) comes over to the Russian lady behind me, and takes HER order. At this point, I am rather upset. I felt like the woman working behind the counter taking orders did not even acknowledge my existence, let alone attempt to take my order. This is Brookline, MA, USA... In order to have a successful business, you should treat ALL of your customers with EQUAL respect and you should at least know how to say "what would you like?" in English. This was the first and only time in my life that I left the line, approached the lady at the cash register, and asked to speak to the manager. I explained that I felt his staff was rude and discriminatory. He said "we can get you whatever you need". At that point, it was too late. I put my basket down and I said "I don't want anything here and I really liked this place, but I am never coming back." And I left. It's a real shame that this store is filled with such rude staff because otherwise, they carry a lot of great products and they are right across the street from my place. Nonetheless, this was the first and only time that I felt so disrespected to the point of speaking with the manager and leaving. ADDENDUM: As a law student, I suppose I reacted to things in a different way and picked up on things that perhaps a non-lawyer or non-law student would not pick up on. Nonetheless, as I have looked at other reviews of this place--I think it's fair to say that there is a general consensus that customer service is NOT their forte. I don't know if this has anything to do with whether or not you are Russian, or Russian speaking, but I felt like they treated me like an outsider and I've gone into many other ethnic food shops (Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Turkish, Arabic, Colombian), and I have never received this kind of cold, unhelpful service or felt the sort of discrimination that I felt here. read more

Wow, how did I live in Brookline for a year without knowing about this place? Every time I go in I'm bowled over with all the awesome and fun things they sell! As an international market, it's definitely mostly Russian, but not exclusively. I've never ordered from the prepared foods or bakery counter, but there is a ton there and it looks SO good. And prices are very reasonable. Large fish selection - fresh, frozen, smoked (lox, etc.), caviar, caviar dip, caviar spread... Extensive cheese selection, plus all sorts of varieties of yogurt-type stuff. Huge selection of kosher items, but interesting European stuff, not the usual kosher brands. Terrific kosher wine selection, none of which is your run of the mill Herzog. Brands I haven't seen elsewhere in Brookline. Impressive and very cheap produce. Not a huge produce section (i.e., 1-2 varieties of apples/tomatoes/lettuce/etc. instead of 8), but you'll find most of what you need. It's true that a lot of the products are not packaged in English, but plenty are. And if you're adventurous and just looking to try something different, you'll find a ton to explore! I've found the staff friendly enough, and I don't speak a word of Russian. In my experience, the staff speaks English just fine. You're going to buy groceries, after all, not discuss postmodernism. read more

It's no secret that Russian ex-pats are a-plenty in our neck of the woods. Russian delis and grocery stores have sprouted up all over since the early 90s to serve the growing populace of homesick refugees. I would like to toot the horn for Bazaar as the best in the Brookline/Brighton area, for several reasons: 1) All stores have a wide selection of stuff we remember from childhood, but this place has everything, from condensed milk to creme brulee ice cream. 2) The deli has hot and cold food that tastes like home, and not drowning in mayonnaise. 3) They have produce 4) Americans are always welcome as the signs and the staff speak English - and are friendly, unlike other places where, in the great tradition of the Soviet torg. culture, they act like they're doing you a favor by serving you 5) They also have a bigger more of a super-market store on Cambridge street in Allston 6) If you spend more than so much money ( I think $30), they give you free chocolates) read more

I mostly come here for specific things like ice cream, the lamb pilaf, dressed herring salad, frozen pelmeni, blini mix, and Alenka chocolate, all things that I remember from my time in Russia. The produce is decently priced and they have a wide variety of bread and tea (lots and lots of tea). The staff will mostly stay out of your way unless you approach them first. Sometimes I try to order in my shaky, out-of-practice Russian and they indulge me. Unless things have changed in the past two years or so, there's a $10 minimum charge for credit cards. As everyone else has said: great specialty product from eastern Europe, and fresh and affordable produce (super shocking... how do they make a profit?). I especially loved their yogurt-ish selection: after a long rumination period, I decided on prostokvasha. Tastes like... yogurt. But only 50 calories a serving. I just love this store!!! They carry all the Russian foods that I miss so much - vinigret (beets and vegetable salad), pickled vegetables, smoked and marinated fish, blintzes (so good! bought the ones with meat and they were fresh and just the way my mom makes them. No kidding), poppy seed pastries, zefir, "bird's milk", fresh halva, Turkish delight, various Russian candies per pound and in boxes. They also have fresh fruit and vegetables for very reasonable prices - I bough a 3lb box of cherries just for $9. The women working there are very nice, one of them gave me advice on which dumplings to get and which seasoning to use. I am very sorry to say this, but the quality of their deli/prepared foods has gone down. They were huge fish bones in my fish kotleta and I had a stomach ache after I had some olivie. Something is off, I dont know if they got new owners or a new chef, but its no longer good. They did get some plombir ice cream thought. So, stick to packaged goods. read more

The cold cuts selection is varied. Prices go up to about 12.99/lb for some very high end salamis. Cheese selection leaves much to be desired though. Bazaar also has a pretty good sweets collection. Polish, Russian, Czech candies and pastries of all varieties. I've yet to try it, but I will on my next visit. Overall, this place scores major cool points in my book. I've just became a fan of this mini-market/imports shop! You can find plenty of good stuff that you won't see anywhere else. From Russian/German/Bulgarian/... imported drinks, desserts, sauces, sausages, meatcuts,... to top quality veggies more typical from a farmers market!! I don't give it 5 stars because is the kind of place where you have to always look the expiring date, and I don't recomend to buy bread there, most of the time is old. read more

This place is cool! I only got produce here, because I'm vegan and couldn't read half the ingredients on other stuff so didn't want to risk it. The veggies + fruits were good quality and fairly priced. Despite not being able to really get anything else here, I still think it's a wicked cool store. They sell all sorts of delicacies - chocolates, meats, spreads - from Eastern Europe. I think most of the stuff is Russian. You know, based on my extensive command of the Cyrillic script. I went into this place after walking by it so many times before. They do have a lot of stuff, but I'm really not well informed about eastern European food at all. The food looked interesting, but I can't read what the labels say (It's in Russian or Greek or whatever other languages they had) and I don't eat things that I don't know what they are. I wish I knew though, because I think I'd definitely buy some of it otherwise! As for the salespeople - they all spoke Russian (I think?) and so did all of the other shoppers. They didn't seem interested in helping me and they served people that came after me before asking me what I wanted. I don't know if it's because I'm not a regular, but how are you supposed to get regulars if you're rude to newcomers?! Also, the one lady finally asked me "What do you want?" and I told her and she said "Just wait a minute" and walked away... and never came back! Some other lady finally came up and helped me. I just think the service is bad here. One plus though - and that helps boost the rating a lot - is that the Feta there is the BEST feta I've had in a long time!! And very reasonably priced. Oh - last point - their produce was pretty cheap, but it looked like it too... Some of it didn't look too fresh or tasty... Some seemed okay.
