Finding a restaurant that's actually open in Crisfield is surprisingly difficult. I can't tell you how many restaurants that I went to were closed; like, on a Saturday night, not a Monday or a Tuesday, with no explanation as to why. From Scratch respects its stated hours of operation, and so it's known as a reliable business. Some of the locals told me that the restaurant industry here has suffered due to the pandemic. It's the residents of Crisfield who directed me to go to From Scratch knowing that I could get some tasty vittles. The meat omelet is hot, satisfying and yummy. The thick-cut bacon is properly prepared. I love that I can get pumpernickel toast here, not always the case when eating out. This is good value for the money.

I didn't mind waiting and having a break from the long drive home from Newport News. There were several ghosts accompanying me at the bar. The food was excellent. Veggie Omelet and Potato Hash were both farm to table fresh, and the coffee was brisk and hot. Worth the wait. The hotel was as much museum as bed & breakfast. Tons of charm without being gitchee. Swimming in butter, with what looked like minced garlic, it was bland. The side of cornbread actually stole the show! Dan said his meal was pretty good, so 3 stars for the shrimp as jumbo. I do hope this restaurant does well and picks up on some of the pointers.
