The name of the place is true. The food is traditional, nicely plated and portions are generous. It did take a while (30+ minutes) to get the order, but this is because the spot is so popular. The wait staff is very pleasant. Finding a restaurant that's actually open in Crisfield is surprisingly difficult. I can't tell you how many restaurants that I went to were closed; like, on a Saturday night, not a Monday or a Tuesday, with no explanation as to why. From Scratch respects its stated hours of operation, and so it's known as a reliable business. Some of the locals told me that the restaurant industry here has suffered due to the pandemic. It's the residents of Crisfield who directed me to go to From Scratch knowing that I could get some tasty vittles. The meat omelet is hot, satisfying and yummy. The thick-cut bacon is properly prepared. I love that I can get pumpernickel toast here, not always the case when eating out. This is good value for the money. read more

Stayed in Chrisfield on a business trip for five days. Food was great service was excellent and very friendly.

The Toot wandered back to ol Jane's little island on the eastern shore of the eastern most bay of Chesapeake on the eastern most land United States. go with empty belly and open eyes as the bo saying goes. and so the toot must admit to a bit of deja how you say vus when he found himself scratched up and sat down in this lovely ol dine-er piled up pancakes sausage, fried up scrappy just right eggs you gonna poach em and throw em up toppn english muffins and home fries fried up and onion plied. now it's been years you say it's been some time but I recall this place with the same faces years ago perched with another name. but it don't matter the toot quenced himself with strong coffee and moved on, happy. read more

The food was delicious! I didn't have high hopes because this is a small town restaurant, but wow, this place was incredible. Food was well-seasoned, reasonably priced, and came in large portions. The wait staff was really polite and helpful. 9 out of 10. read more

Small dirty restaurant with soggy food that's all the same color - beige, beige, beige

Service was great and very friendly. Our food ranged from great to lousy though . For a long standing restaurant that was disappointing. The shrimp salad was excellent and the fries were tasty and hot but could have been a bit crisper. The featured beef vegetable soup was terrible. It seemed undercooked and bitter. Clam strips were bland. The country ambience is always enjoyable and the competition in Crisfield is slim but this visit was not one of our better trips to Scratch. read more

Peas and dumplings and cream of crab were great. Fries were soggy but my husband had a double decker flounder sandwich that was good and my burger was tasty, even though it was overcooked. Really cute spot and good service. read more

My son Jaden has been working at a local restaurant, From Scratch, for a little bit and the manager knew when she hired him that he was autistic. Yesterday he left work 30 mins after he was supposed to and when he got in the car he was nearly in tears he was so overwhelmed. The lady text and said Jaden had left some dishes unwashed. Apparently she'd been having him trying to wash dishes (which he was hired for) and bus tables. They were busy today and he was struggling to keep up. He was ready to clock out and more dishes kept coming back so after 30 mins he left. She text him about it and was pretty rude in my opinion so I text her and asked her if I could speak with her. She called me and had me on speakerphone without warning me and someone else involved in the conversation. She kept cutting me off when I was trying to explain that autism comes with some struggles... hyper fixation on the task he's doing, memory issues and of course lack of emotional regulation. And I didn't understand why if he was having a hard time keeping up with dishes why she was adding a whole other job on top. And she claims that every dishwasher is also a busboy which is ridiculous and was not told to is when he initially got the job through the DORS and summer internship program. Also he has never once been given any tips as a busboy. I explained that Jaden doesn't work the same as a neurotypical person. She was constantly rude until I snapped, told her she was right Jaden wasn't a good fit and hung up on her. She knew he was special needs but expects him to act like he isn't. And then she's like "this is the first time I've heard from you since he started." And I said "Well he's 18 and I've been trying to let him handle things himself but now I've had enough!" I will not be giving them anymore of my business and I'll be letting everyone know how they treat people with disabilities. read more

Never had a poor meal always taste and it's always friendly, clean and it's always a great time for breakfast there.

From Scratch is so good!! Server was really nice and attentive to us. We called ahead to ask if there was a wait for our party of 5, and she said to come on over. She even had a big table set up for us when we got there 5 minutes later. The breakfast options were great and very flavorful. Scratch made as the name says, and very good! If you're in Crisfield or close by, don't hesitate to give them a visit! read more

Very loooong wait for food. Food was completely unappetizing and of extremely poor quality. Onion rings were nothing but fried skins, fish was undercooked, tasteless canned green beans, potatoes (breakfast type) greasy and extremely salty, eggs like rubber. Very very poor quality in all areas. The young waitress did well given what she had to work with. Never again even though we live locally. We dined there 2 years ago and was disappointed and stated "never again". We gave Scratch a 2nd chance and regret it. Nothing has changed and will never return. read more

I WISH I could say something about the food, however we never got our food. We wanted to go get some scrapple and decided on From Scratch, we walked in and waited for 10 minutes before asked about food. We ordered 2 pancakes, 2 pieces of scrapple and 2 Scrambled Eggs, 30 minutes later nothing had shown up. The place looked nice and had a few people but we will never be back. read more

It really makes me sad to write this review, because when i heard the former "Gathering Place" was reopening under new owners I was really excited. The restaurant is convenient for us, and we would lunch or breakfast there a couple of times weekly, and dinner several times a month. So we looked forward to becoming regular customers at the new place, especially with a name like "From Scratch". Our first try was about a week ago, the night after their opening day. The place was slammed, clearly not enough staff, an air of barely controlled chaos prevailed. We, after a significant wait, ordered the Salisbury Steak dinner and a hamburger with fries. The menu thus far is pretty limited.....and for what it is, fairly pricey. A looong wait ensued after ordering, and we had to request rolls/butter. The ordered vegetable soup never did materialize. Husband reported the mashed potatoes were really dry and flavorless. The hamburger, while clearly handmade , from fresh ground beef, was completely unseasoned, not seared, and of a uniform gray and mushy appearance from improper cooking. Fries were handcut but again, cooked in grease not hot enough, resulting in a limp greasy pile of potatoes on the plate. So.... not really happy, but willing to give it another try. Just returned from lunch today.......another unhappy experience. This time, a shrimp "basket", a BLT, onion rings, and a cup of vegetable soup. Soup: not hot. Vegetables-standard frozen veg, not sufficiently cooked, so they were HARD, potatoes in soup the same way. Broth seemed almost to be tomato juice. Just terrible. Onion Rings- at $7.99 for an appetizer order, you would expect "something". Just to be clear, these were ordered as a side for the BLT, so they were $2.00 additional. Again, frying grease not hot enough so breading mostly fell off, side order was a limp pile of greasy onions with bits of coating clinging here and there. Have to say the breading i tasted seemed to have some off flavor. BLT-cold bacon, stale toast, white lettuce and pale tomatoes. Nothing from scratch here. Shrimp basket-fries same as last time, a generous portion of limp greasy potatoes. Shrimp just standard from the freezer bag concrete coated deep fried. I don't expect jumbo shrimp, or a lot of shrimp.....but the NAME of the restaurant ("From Scratch") as well as the prices, would lead one to believe that one might expect better than this. Might be awhile before we are silly or desperate enough to try this one again. read more

Being "breakfast people" staying on Deal Island we have been missing many options for breakfast. "From Scratch" filled the bill! Despite the 60 mile round trip we will be back. The portions are more than generous. My wife ordered scrapple (we are PA Dutch) with her omelet (which came with a choice of potatoes or grits) . Her order of scrapple was not one piece but two. I had corn beef hash and was mildly disappointed because I imagined it would be home made but was not. The portion was generous. Others had pancakes that they could not finish and french toast with sausage (choice of link or patty) which was a challenge to clean up. The coffee cups are BIG and they refill with a smile. Like many places they are under staffed and so a bit of a wait was understandable. We will be back----this was a nice start to the day! read more

Food was not good at all after waiting 40 minutes and finding a hair.... i should have went to mcdonalds

The food was good. But the service was horrible. It was one of the few times when I almost decided to throw cash on the table for the drinks and leave because I was getting so hungry. That was being generous because we even had to wait a long time for our drinks. This is a side note but I did go there for a great surf and turf dinner special and they completely ran out of it by the time 5pm came around. They weren't even that packed when we showed up. So I'm not sure but you first come first serve. read more

Went here for 25th anniversary. First mistake. Taking advice from a local. Second mistake. "It's all from scratch" she said. "It's the best in the area" she said. We went. Sat in a quiet corner and ordered. Two other groups came in... One was the owner and friends... The other was a group who Just finished clamming. They sat next to our table...cornered us at elbows length... And talked loud enough that the entire conversation obliterated any romantic conversation we may have thought of having. And then the food... Prepackaged dressings was the first clue. The food was not from scratch... except for the flounder.. but everything else was NOT good. Do not recommend! Great food. Wonderful staff and local atmosphere. The new owners giving 150% in bringing a vital business back to Crisfield. I also know the adversities of building a restaurant locals and visitors will enjoy when you are new to the industry. As a local I am willing to learn through the challenges with them. This place was everything we wanted from a small town restaurant after our camping trip at Jane's island. Reasonably priced food, fresh and delicious in a clean, casual, and welcoming atmosphere clearly favored by the locals. We'll be back whenever we're in town. read more

When we docked our boat at Crisfield Marina, we asked at the marina for a lunch recommendation, and they immediately suggested From Scratch as having great food. All dock hands standing nearby nodded quickly in agreement. They offered to lend us bikes so that we could ride the mile or so to the restaurant and gave us a marked map. The food was even better than described, and Dana, our waitress, was friendly, quick, and helpful. We ordered crab cakes, fries, and the special grape salad. All was fresh and delicious. We heard the cook in the back giving orders for more crab to be picked as she was running low....an indication of how fresh it was! We each ordered two crab cakes and couldn't eat both so asked for a to-go box and a bag. The owner, Allen, was changing a lightbulb nearby and heard that we had biked over. He came over and offered to put the bikes in the back of his truck and give us a ride back to the marina, as it was starting to get hot outside. Amazing!
