The State of Mind : I really don't want to fight through the last minute crowds but at least I'll be able to grab a coffee to get rid of the remaining effects of last night's champagne. Actually it's a little more desperate than that. I need coffee and I don't care what the coffee is like. Just give me a café, a seat and someone who will make me a coffee and I'm there. The Outcome : Jackpot! I stumble upon Ang's Café at Marion Westfield and have unknowingly discovered a gem of a coffee shop that I'm sure to visit again. Having made purchases at the Seafood shop on one side of Ang's and the Health Food Shop on the other, I just couldn't be bothered walking to any of my normal haunts so in I went only to discover this place was a WINNER. After I opened my eyes and looked properly at Ang's I realised they actually sell coffee beans and blends and specialise in coffee and tea. They also have a selection of food on offer but I have to admit I didn't try anything in that department. Everything looked fresh and tasty though. What I can vouch for is that this place knows their beans and to my neverending surprise I enjoyed a great cup of coffee.

I ordered a long black mug with a dash of cold milk. It was amazing! It wasn't scorching hot as what they usually can be so was able to drink it shortly after. It was quite strong tasting which is what I like, with smooth and rich overtones. It was no way bitter or sour or weak as what you can find sometimes with ordinary coffee houses. So in that case I didn't need to add much milk at all, neither any sugar or sweeteners. All I ordered was a coffee so that's all I can critique, and it was absolutely top notch. In terms of the cafe itself it's nicely laid out with ample seating. They're going for the real rustic look with dark wooden features throughout, which is a favourite of mine, although I see a few things seem dated and plain and could do with some touching up. They display several large jars and canisters where they have large varieties of different flavoured coffee beans and teas, which I can see are for wholesale. They have a couple display fridges where they show a very large variety of different sweet and savoury foods. I see muffins, slices, biscuits, cakes, tarts, banana bread... As well as other things like croissants, quiches and fresh rolls. All in all I'm impressed. This would be my number one preference for a coffee when stopping here on a regular day. Well worth a try.

The sign just had the words "Loveon Cafe" and an arrow pointing left (turn left down Victoria St when coming from the City). I was intrigued, but it earned the cafe a new customer. This is marketing at its simplest and most effective. Getting to Loveon Cafe is easy. Being off the main drag means parking is simple, plenty of street side parks. Walking towards the cafe, you are welcomed by a row of neat, small potted plants and the outdoor tables. Inside, the cafe is big, open and spacious. Small tables, big tables and benches. Sit where'd you like, grab today's paper. There is a fresh juice bar, a selection of sweets at the order table, cold drinks in the fridge, and lots of tasty menu items cooked from the kitchen. Sitting outside is lovely as its real quiet. You can sip coffee, chat and read the paper in the sun on the outdoor tables. A few cars driving around, but thats it. The owners of Loveon Cafe are Bangladeshi and once you examine the menu, you can start to see the influences come through. I chose to try Bagla'r Promise from the breakfast menu. Its a small potato curry, some dhaal and two poached eggs on top served with chapati. I was pleasantly surprised to try something really different for breakfast. It tasted great, was a decent size, the poached eggs were spot on and it went well with my coffee too. The lunch menu looks like great value too with lots of options to choose from. I didn't try the fresh juice, but that is definitely on my list for next time. The service was great, the staff are really friendly. Although the cafe probably needs a fly screen on the entrance doors. When i walk in, i instantly see & feel a sense that this place has a community vibe to it. There is a mothers sectons where there is ample space for prams and mothers to sit and have coffee, there are about 20 seats available outiside and about another 20 inside. I ordered a latte and a salmon and eggs breakfast. When i sat down, i was given a water which contained many citrus fruits, herbs, apples and pears. its the little thing for me i like, but, it makes the water taste amazing. When i recieved the latte i noticed something about the spoon, it was a special looking promotional spoon for the Thebarton Bowling Club. When i questioned it they said that organisations  donate the spoons as per request of owner. When the salmon arrived, i was served it and the waiter then proceeded to grate the pepper on top of the meal, again its the little things. The salmon was on top of a piece of rye bread with spinach and pouched eggs with a minty, peppery sauce in the spinach. I would highly recommend this location for a business meeting as the community feel and the ambience of the venue is fantastic.

I have ordered a iced chocolate twice from there. On both occasions, they came out perfectly presented with chocolate powder and whipped cream layered on top. Unlike other coffee shops, the iced chocolate didn't taste like it was made from cheap chocolate powder. It actually tasted like it was made with something much nicer. They also can use skim milk, which I find much nicer than the full cream variety. The little shop can get quite busy from time to time, however if you pick your timing nicely, it can be nice and quiet. It generally isn't too noisy in there too, which is always good for when you are having a conversation. They also have a nice range of cakes, sandwiches and croissants - the typical coffee shop offerings. I have my eye on a particular slice of cake they have on offer which I am interested in trying next time I am there. Pricing is on par with other establishments and the staff are good. The wait time is good too, but varies (as you would assume) depending on the number of people in the cafe.

The store keeps it's main doors wide open to the street meaning you can often smell it before you can see it......yum the downside being that it can be very chilly if you are trying to escape Radelaides winter. The service is friendly and quick during the morning take-away rush with the "and a name for your order" process but it slows down a little later in the day to suit the more relaxed clientele. For the dine in experience, the buzzer system alerting you that it's time to pick up your goods from the counter is impersonal but effective. The store is boasting some very trendy decor and is fitting in well with the many higher-end restaurants along Waymouth st. Back then Parkside was a bit dingy, a bit boho and very multicultural - Greek and Italian families predominated. Fast forward 25 years and Parkside has now been gentrified and and is a bit yuppiefied but blessedly Duthy St deli harks back to its deli origins and not just in name only. Vasili our host, has been smoothly operating a very successful cafe here for a number of years. Good service, well trained baristas, efficient chefing on view and a consistent, reliable extremely well presented selection of breakfast and lunch cold and hot items. Shrewdly but thankfully very competitively priced in a locale that could cough up more. Always good and always fresh -congratulations on maintaining the tradition in a slice of slightly out of the way suburbia. PS I do miss the Haigh's dark chocolate buttons though that used to accompany the coffee (I'd be prepared to pay a little more to have the chance to drop one in to create a gooey chocolaty melting moment on top of my latte/cappuccino froth).
