The Topiary is located Newman's Nursery, and is a picturesque setting from what we could see in the dark. Keep an eye out while driving down Northeast Road at night so that you don't miss the driveway as the lighting on that road is pretty dim. Once inside, there is ample parking, and you'll likely be greeted on the way up to the restaurant by a friendly, vocal cat that hangs around. We enjoyed an excellent six course meal, each meal being made from locally sourced or foraged ingredients and paired with a different wine. One of the standouts for me was the sou-vide egg with pork belly and forest mushrooms. At the end, the chef introduced himself and talked about the final dessert item, garnishing it with a sprinkle of carrot seeds from the garden. It was a nice touch, and we were all very appreciative of the hard work and attention to detail that went into the food. This was a really good night! The food was excellent and the staff were welcoming and attentive, but not needy. The building has a real rustic charm to it, and my only regret was that we couldn't go out to see the outdoors as it was dark and freezing. I'm looking forward to coming here for breakfast or lunch some time and see the place during daylight hours.

This deli is open all of the time, from about 7am until about 7pm every day - including Christmas day, which has come in SO handy. In the past few years, I have seen business increase to such an extent that I avoid going there during weekday lunch hours, where all the local tradies and council workers come for lunch, and somehow - the people serving manage to keep track of all of their names, orders and stories.

Maybe it's naïve to think so, but if you're going to give your establishment an Italian name, don't end it there. Italianise the place a bit. I'm not saying you should stick flags all over the walls. That's cheap and tacky. But try to evoke some of the great spirit and atmosphere we associate with the country.
