If long, protracted telephone trees annoy you, do not call BCAA. I had to spend an interminable amount of time listening to the canned voice of a woman who sounded like Death Incarnate. I got sick of pressing 1 for this, 2 for that, 3 for something else.... only to receive another long message and a command to repeat my selection. Ad nauseam. Honestly, that female robot they have on there sounds as though she's being dragged to the guillotine. Be prepared to wait. And wait. And wait. ALSO don't bother walking into a BCAA office, hoping that someone will look after you as in years gone by. It always comes down to phoning for telephone assistance - or making an appointment. Note: The next day I tried again and this time I was told that someone would call me back if I didn't want to wait. I was instructed to punch in my 10-digit number starting with my area code. I began this process, but after entering my area code Ms. Death scolded me: 604 is not a valid number! I had to return to the never-ending hold queue. I am very very happy to say that I DID eventually receive assistance over the phone by a competent agent named Rita Li. She was wonderful. This one-star review is for the telephone system, not her. read more

I have been a member of BCAA since 1968. My house is insured by BCAA. My sister passed away in Nov. 2023. Probate has been going on since then. My sisters affairs were managed by the Public Guardian and Trustee. Now I have been assigned executor of my sister's estate. I have not had much cooperation from PGT. PGT has insured my sister's condo but are stopping insurance next month. I had an appointment with BCAA this morning. I was told that they will not insure my sister's condo and that I should contact an insurance broker. More wasted time. read more

If you are considering purchasing out of country medical insurance from BCAA; do yourself a favour and save your money and get it from someone else. I have been buying an annual policy for myself and my wife for 3 years in a row. On average it's about $500 a year for both of us. They are all smiles and handshakes when they are taking your money, but as soon as you submit a claim ; it's a different storey. We spent 25 days in Texas in November and while on our trip, my blood pressure spiked to 240. I called their claims number and asked if it would be concerned. "Yes sir, go to the hospital and we will take care of it " That's what I was told, very friendly people. I went to an emergency walk in clinic and the total cost was $140 USD. I submitted the forms online, copies of the receipts, the doctors notes / reports , copies of my boarding passes, credit card bill and the forms were accepted. 2 weeks later they sent me an email stating they did not receive the required documents. The irony is all the requested documents were attached to the email they sent me stating they were not received. I've tried calling them repeatedly and as soon as I say hello "they hang up" I don't know what kind of company this is but I'm guessing it's run out of someone's basement on Montreal and they don't pay claims. The good news is my bill was only $140 and I can live with that and more importantly, I'm Really glad I didn't go to an actual emergency department at a hospital because then I would've heel screwed out of thousands of dollars instead of $140. I had no pre- existing condition and was given approval by this company to get treatment. I'm not going to file a dispute with my credit card company and ask to have the charges reversed. I'll pay the $140 from the $500 refund I get back from their fraudulent insurance. Shame on you guys. The thing is, I read several bad reviews about BCAA travel insurance but I tried it anyway , never again. Save time money and stay away from these sheisters. read more

I have purchased travel medical insurance from BCAA for quite a few years. In recent years I have had to extend my overseas stay (and insurance) several times, which I was able to do over the phone with BCAA. This year, I experienced a severely herniated disk and went to a private hospital in Hong Kong. The exam, MRI, and prescriptions came to over $3000. Although I did have to go back and forth with emails a couple of times and resend some documents, the claim was paid in full in a timely manner. The agents were helpful and polite. I suspect that any insurance company will have negative reviews. Their agents are required to perform due diligence and ensure all claims are fully documented, and within the terms of the contract. Naturally, people are not happy when a claim is rejected. read more

Despite my living here in Vancouver for over 4 years now, I have never had any in-person interactions or transactions with BCAA. My insurance broker set up all my various insurance policies with various companies, and I've simply dealt with him directly. That said, my vehicle is insured through BCAA and I recently had to amend my policy, as my kid is visiting for the summer and I want her to be put on my car insurance policy (so I don't have to be her personal chauffeur for the next 3 months!). So my kid and I recently ventured into this BCAA office, not knowing what to expect. All I can say is, our experience here in this office was stellar. We were greeted at the door by a guy behind a "welcome" counter. We advised him what we were there for and he directed us to the small waiting area. The whole office was immaculate, open, bright and welcoming. I particularly appreciated the small sign affixed to a desk corner, facing the comfy chairs in the waiting area, that provided the free wi-fi password. Nice! (Little things like that are so helpful). After a 5-10 minute wait, we were beckoned to a counter where a guy assisted us with our insurance issues. I wish I had gotten his name. He was SO helpful and SO nice and SO patient, explaining stuff to me (there were some features in my current policy I was unaware of). No pressure to upsell me on anything, but he wanted me to know what some of my options were, and he was extremely patient in explaining to me how my policy worked, how to get my kid OFF my policy when she returns to university in the fall, and the upcoming changes in BCAA policies and rate when my policy renews in July. Also, he went over the packet of insurance papers I had been keeping in my car's glove compartment and told me there were some that should NOT be kept in my car, as they had some sensitive information on them (financial account numbers, and more). Yikes, these forms have been in my car since I moved here. This guy really went above and beyond for me. Super nice. We were in and out of the office in 20 minutes. Home insurance claim. After having some difficulty with the adjuster I asked for a new one. Was told "sure manager will call you back today." Excellent right? A few hours later the call comes through: " can you tell me a bit about the reason you're asking for a new adjuster." East breezy. Start to briefly explain. "Surprise. It's me your old adjuster. And what you're saying isn't accurate" Then follows a brief "yes" "no" when I interject with, so am I getting a new adjuster. "Oh don't know. I'll talk to the manager." Great. Another day wasted trying to get a handle on things with my insurance company. My home had water pouring from the roof for 48 hours. It's currently unlivable. It's been a month. What other tricks and surprises could Bcaa have to make this experience more enjoyable. (Caveat: quoted dialogue is a dramatic representation. Bcaa records all calls in order to serve us better. I canceled my renters insurance and was told I would have one more payment of $33.34, a 1/2 payment, withdrawn the next day. Two weeks goes by and they withdraw 5 times that amount. I spend two days on the phone with them to get it worked out. Mostly because their call support is trying to tell me that there are extra fees etc... Not the truth. I had to get this escalated to get it figured out that the $33.34 was the only amount to be taken. I was told it be returned in s day or two. Nine days later I call back, 2 more calls and I'm told it will be another 8 days before they will return my money! I just moved to try and live cheaper as money has become very very tight. They steal my money and now I have 8 days without food because of these thieves. They sure can snatch your money but slow to return it. 17 days to return after 2 days casks. Beyond ridiculous. I purchased BCAA travel insurance which proved to be a big mistake. I wish I had realized that I was actually purchasing insurance from Global Excel Management which has terrible reviews. I wound up needing medical attention while out of country. The Global Excel website states you can use a gas receipt as proof of travel. A receipt like that has no proof of who purchased it, it could be anyone's receipt.. Yet they wont accept a pharmacy receipt which has my name on it for which I had to show ID to the pharmacy. Also I had to give my passport to the hospital, much more proof then a gas receipt. They are just wiggling out of having to pay with this bs excuse. read more

On March 25 2020, I had a small misadventure with my RV. It had two wheels off the road and got stuck in snow. I was in need of a small tug to get out of this unfortunate situation. After calling BCAA to get assistance I was told that it would take 5 hours before a tow truck could reach me. Right away, I found that odd since I was a mere 15 min drive from a major Canadian city. Ten minutes later, I received a call from BCAA telling me that I was outside of their contractor's coverage area and I was basically on my own. After hanging up, I really felt betrayed and ashamed of myself. Ashamed for paying a membership (Premier RV ) to this organisation and in time of dire need, to get abandoned to rot on the side of the road on my first call. terrible experience. they told me I had to speak to an agent to transfer my policy. agent offer was much worse than what I could see in their site online. agent said site was wrong even though I was entering the exact same information onto their site as she is speaking to me! I email them with a comparison of the online offer vs their agent offer. agent ignores it and sends me the exact same crappy offer she started with! they don't listen. They have super lon g call back times ... I waited 3 hours - twice! they favour volume over quality. Now I can see why ppl do buy BCAA, membership does have its privileges, you get coverage for everything: car, home, travel, which was why I came here to buy for my trip. It's a better deal when you buy the multi-trip one, for $75/yr, you get unlimited $10,000,000 coverage worldwide, hospital care, 24/7 access to questions, etc. And notice how when you book hotel rooms, they ask if you have BCAA? If my new car didn't have already have roadside assistance, I'd consider this; also includes a free few tows per year too. It's a nice, big office w/ great North view of the mountains, and a host/ess to greet you & lead you to the right counter. Small seating area to wait. My only beef is they didn't tell me you could save a bit of money (5%) by booking online. Guess someone's got to make a living. read more

I previously reviewed BCAA's emergency roadside assistance as very poor, the result of having to wait two hours for assistance. I also reported that when I tried to cancel my membership and get a refund, BCAA advised that they do not give refunds. I put in a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and after some back and forth, BCAA did what they said they don't do, which was to give me a full refund on my annual membership fee. My girlfriend's car would not start and when she called B CAA for roadside assistance they would not send anyone and instead sent a tow truck but there was no services nearby that could take her car for up to 3 weeks So the car instead got towed back to her home and the tow truck cost was a $1000. read more

Called BCAA a couple of days go to set up a appointment to have our car towed to the repair shop. The check engine light came on one day and a couple of error codes came up on the scanner. I researched what the error codes were and the suggestion was to not drive your vehicle and get it to a repair shop. BCAA said they don't set up appointments for a scheduled tow and said phone back on the day we had our appointment with the repair shop. Called BCAA this morning just before 8:00 am and about 4 1/2 hours later the tow truck was here to pick up the car. I talked to the towing company and they said that had some staffing issues. Our vehicle was at our home and normally that would not have been a issue but I had set it up with the repair shop to have it in earlier in the day and I had a different appointment at noon that would have been difficult to change. Called the towing company back and said I would leave the key in the car unlocked and no one would be home to meet the driver. They were ok with that arrangement so I was able to make my appointment. In the end I think BCAA and the towing companies that they use should have a backup plan to call other towing companies to relieve the pressure. If I was broke down on the road some where and had to wait that long for service I would be a little more then upset. read more

You can't have it both ways, make it refundable, or let me one time transfer it onto my dad. Only allowing us pay by year is ridiculous. Every time I come to this BCAA location, the employees have always been very friendly. I've come both during the lunch hour and in the morning when they open (9 am), and in both cases there was maybe one person ahead of me in line. The staff are knowledgeable and can help you figure out what travel/car/home insurance you need. The setup of this location is a bit weird. When you enter on W Broadway, you have to walk through a short hallway to get to the actual BCAA office. There is also an entrance in the back in the parking lot. When you get inside, make sure you talk to the person at the information desk first. They'll make sure that you talk to the right person who can meet your needs. If you're just looking for a road map, they have a huge selection behind the counter. If you'd rather get insurance in person instead of over the phone, I recommend this location. read more

My Mom gave me a letter to hand in to BCAA to claim a gift certificate allowing me to take a trip to where ever I wanted to (within reason). She wanted me to take some time off from work and, of course, I kept working. Now eight years later, I stumbled upon the letter and thought it would be a good time to take some time off. However, when I phoned the BCAA head office, I was told they were no longer involved with the travel industry and sent me over to an affiliate. Their affiliate, of course, knew nothing about my letter, and who gave it to me etc... I really thought I was going to get the run around, until I went down and sat face to face with Lil Lazibat of BCAA. She took charge of the situation, and contacted head office on my behalf. She couldn't make any promises, and I was still weary about every seeing my Mom's investment recognized, as we are talking eight years later, and I hadn't even taken in the letter in to get the gift certificate. On Tuesday February 19th my daughter (we'll call her "N") & her boyfriend (we'll call him "M") were driving to Langley from Edmonton with their 6 month old Husky Luna . As they were approaching Golden BC, they called & did a check in. All was good with road & driving conditions. About half an hour later I got a panicked phone call from "N" - they were in Golden at a gas station and Luna - the Husky puppy locked them out of the truck.Yup - I said the puppy locked them out - "M" was gassing up - "N" went to the washroom & Luna got all excited and started jumping around & put her paw on the lock button! The service station owners were so kind to let them use the phone and SOS Mom. I immediately without hesitation phoned BCAA. Kelly answered my call and I can't give enough praise about how she handled this for my family. When I explained the situation she said because I wasn't with the vehicle it was policy that they didn't usually respond - I knew this but we needed help - there was a puppy locked in the big Ram truck. I've been a member of BCAA for many years and much of that time have not needed help - Kelly said lets rescue that crazy puppy Luna and sent someone from Golden to open the door!!! Within 30 minutes BCAA arrived & opened the lock and they were on their way home. I am not sure if this is a management/training issue but I have dealt with 2-3 agents that were rude, passive and clearly wanted to be elsewhere. I only recommend them for price. read more

My rating is based on BCAA's promotional literature which proclaims loudly that " Simply put, you are covered in ANY car, ANY time, ANY place." (Their caps, not mine) Except you're not. Any car? Well I have a F150 light truck, ideal for the back roads. That's ok, right? Any time? Well, that's self explanatory Any place? Well I'm planning on going fishing at a lake on north Vancouver Island. Conclusion: rural area, alone, might need help. Let's take BCAA up on their offer. Think again: Against the bold "Any place" statement there is nothing to warn you that this is NOT actually true - there are conditions (if you make the decision to go to their website) under which you will NOT in fact be covered, for example if the place you were at when it happened was an unpaved road in a rural area by a lake. Then they advise you of the fact that IF you had read all the conditions listed on their website against "Any CAR" (my caps this time) you would have known that! I feel their promotional lit is deliberately misleading almost to the point of fraudulent by making a bold typeface, capital letters (intentionally eye-catching) statement that you ARE covered at ANY place at ANY time - in the full knowledge that in itself is not a true statement - while simultaneously disguising important disclaimers by the intentional use of almost hidden numerical clues, deliberately hard to follow and certainly non-eye-catching. In acting in this manner BCAA is showing a cynicism which is frankly beneath them and not becoming of an organization which is trusted by so many people including those of us who were brought up to be aware that not disclosing the truth when asked is akin to lying. Road side assistance sure stank today. Dead car, so phone BCAA for jump. The guy conducts some test and says the BCAA battery in my car has a dead cell and could be replaced under warranty. Getting a new battery required a second guy to come to my house - after looking in under the hood for 30 seconds max he says "no, the battery is fine" w/o any explanation. So, no battery, two opposing opinions from two jokers from BCAA. Who's opinion should be binding on BCAA?? Which incompetent is right and which should be retrained or let go?? What's a car owner to do? I know, go back to the dealer!! Yes, the dealer!! The only times I've had deficient service or products done to, or stuck into, my car was when I didn't go to the dealer. First time, I got a crappy battery from BCAA. Second, I got crappy set of tires from Kal-Tire. No more BCAA roadside service for me...in fact, no more BCAA period. Cancelled membership. read more

YAY! I'm a fan all across Canada; the various provincial bodies of the Automobile Association provide some great services and resources. Enrolling as a member allows you roadside coverage that service for when you need service. Flat tire? Locked your keys in the car? Drive all the way out to Abbotsford on an empty tank and now your car won't start? Aren't you glad you bought BCAA coverage?!?!?! Call them up and let them deal with the hassle of knowing which companies service your area. They will have someone there in a jiffy and you'll soon be able to continue on your adventure. Terrible service for Home Insurance. Moved and phoned to change my address, because there is no option to update a policy online. Was put on hold due to "high call volume" and requested a call-back... twice. Never received one. Also submitted an online request form and was told to call (again) or visit the nearest BCAA office (Cambie). Visited the Cambie location and waited 20 minutes only to find out they require a certificate from the city for my (rental) building regarding electrical or they would not provide coverage. Instead of spending more time trying to track down info and follow up with BCAA reps, I cancelled my policy... and was charged a $30 cancellation fee. Do not but home insurance here! read more

She was friendly, efficient, and kind. I was having a very stressful day and for some reason it was Betty that turned it around. DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT, use BCAA for Home/Condo insurance. Had a flood. They contract out to a 3rd party (All Perils Insurance) for flood claims and it was, and continues to be a complete nightmare dealing with All Perils. They do not return calls or e-mails and totally neglect you when you need information, assistance, or payment. They discourage you from taking advantage of coverage you are entitled to such as the additional living coverage. If you have any disputes over your coverage, they act as a gatekeeper between you and BCAA and it's impossible to talk to someone at BCAA unless you are extremely persistent, insistent, and proactive. My entire place was flooded except for my bedroom. BCAA refused to cover my bedroom flooring, but when I protested given I have one continuous hardwood flooring, I had no choice but to make a formal complaint in order to be heard. BCAA's complaint process is extremely arduous and time consuming. They require you to escalate your complaint through 3 levels (from the AP adjuster, to the BCAA adjuster, to BCAA management) before taking your complaint to their ombudsman (which is, btw, the first and only independent process from the people dealing with your particular claim). The whole process took 2 months which could have been reduced significantly if they actually returned calls/e-mails and responded to queries in a timely manner. Then to add insult to injury, they threatened to kick me out of my additional living quarters before the completion of my condo repairs if my complaint delayed the repair process in any manner. But I was unable to make decisions on flooring until they made a decision on my complaint. I felt like I was being bullied and blackmailed into settling for less. In the end, I won my claim. But it was an extremely stressful and draining process at a time when I really did not need any further stress or headache. read more
