I recently started attending classes at Cycology 202 after signing up for a great "back-to-school"…read moreoffer --- $49 for two weeks of unlimited classes, and I've had a great experience so far. Located in the Glen Eagle shopping center (near the Gap, not far from Whole Foods), there is plenty of parking available. Upon walking inside, I've always been immediately greeted, checked in, and offered my size of cycling shoes (which are required to wear, so bring socks but don't worry about your sneakers). Without prompting, the instructors have recognized that I am new and offered help in setting up my bike to suit my size. There is bottled water available for purchase and they place towels at each bike station prior to class. They do not allow cell phones in the exercise rooms. Once everyone is set up, the instructor turns up the music and dims the light except for a few spotlights on the instructor, which feels like a club atmosphere. At times, especially when encouraging us to pedal as quickly as we can, they actually turn the light off entirely, which helps to keep your focus on yourself. They encourage you to pedal to the beat, then adding additional movements like push-ups, crunches, and arm weights while pedaling --- which is a real challenge and a great full body work-out. Classes can be reserved in advance via their website or their app, and you are able to reserve a specific bike (which was useful for attending class with a friend). The studio also offers barre and HIIT classes, but I have yet to try those.

This place is awesome. Riding in a dark room with glowy lights makes it feel like a club. So much…read morefun.

I have called repeatedly and no one answers the phone and have emailed them and it is an invalid email address. I was actually able to get a hold of someone 6 weeks ago who said she would take care of it and refund my money back but they have yet to do so. I am in the process now of disputing with my credit card company. Not good business people!!!!

I purchased a 5 class new student introductory offer and as of last week I completed my 5 classes…read more My thoughts...... First - barre was new to me and so I certainly wasn't use to this type of activity. For me, this was one intense workout that made me drip sweat like a land beast. I was sore after every class and really felt it in every muscle not just thighs or arms. Second - they have a lot of classes. You need early? They have early. You want late? They have that too. There is a class that will fit into your schedule and that's handy for someone like me whose work schedule isn't the same every day. Third - It's convenient and it's an attractive space in which to work out. Why does this matter? I don't know that it does, but so many people who write reviews always comment on the space if it's old, outdated, crusty, raggedy, etc. This place is new, modern, clean & cute. It's easy to get to, I never once had an issue with parking & there is a coffee shop literally 3 doors down for your post workout caffeine fix. Ok, so all that & only four stars? Well, it's small and the five classes I attended were all packed. I always felt like I was on top of someone or that I might kick someone if I didn't pay close attention. They don't have a changing room, I didn't know that for my first class & showed up in my work clothes & a gym bag. Their only restroom is inside the studio so you'll need to wait until class is over to go in there & change. That first time there was a queue of people who just finished working out waiting to use it and then me waiting like a dope to go change. I changed at work after that initial class. As a workout it is probably five stars, but as a whole, I never really felt fully comfortable there. I always felt like I was doing it wrong but seldom if ever got corrected. I always felt too clumsy, too sweaty, too frumpy, too fat, too much - but that's my own hang up not theirs. It's a great work out and fit in nicely between kickboxing & the gym. If you're going to give it a try, do yourself two favors - first, spend the $16 and buy the barre socks right away. Second, try to take at least one class with Marla - she was so encouraging and motivating, I wish she taught there more often but no matter who leads, you're going to get a great workout.

My new obsession --- Solidcore kicks my butt every time, and I keep signing up for more…read more I'd always been kind of terrified of pilates classes that utilize the reformer, but a friend finally convinced me to try a class at Solidcore. They do offer both beginner "Intro" and intermediate "Foundations" classes, but on a very limited schedule. I took a Foundations class, which was a very helpful introduction to the machine with more individualized attention since the class size was smaller. I then skipped a few weeks because the foundations classes didn't align with my schedule as I was convinced I needed to do a few of them before the "big girl" signature classes. However, eventually that same friend convinced me to take the plunge, and I've been going 1-2 times per week ever since. Solidcore Signature 50 Classes involve 50 minutes of slow-burn strength training utilizing resistance from springs on the reformer. There is always attention to your core/obliques (lots of planking!) and then they feature one upper body and one lower body muscle group each class. The goal is to trigger second-degree muscle failure, where you've pushed your muscles to the point that they are shaking and you eventually physically can't complete another rep. Since that "failure" is part of the goal, it normalizes the need to take a break, shake-out, and reset, which I appreciate, but the instructors also encourage you to push for that next rep when you're not sure you can. I'm definitely sore the next day, but in a good way! The schedule for signature classes is super flexible, with offerings starting at 5a and extending almost hourly until 10p with a rotating cast of instructors. They're not the cheapest, but it's also a workout unlike any other and they do offer discounts for teachers and health care workers. The subscription also allows you to bring a friend for free once per month! If you're on the fence about trying it --- just do it. It is going to be a challenge in the best way.

So I'm 17 classes in now. Yup I'm hooked. It's not your average Pilates class. I don't even know…read morehow to describe it. Let me try to break it down....It's a slow workout that works your whole body. Slow ab crunches, lunges, planks, etc. The slow movements are what help you build your muscles. I've seen the positive changes in my body (booty lol) since I've started.
