It was a cloudy day which I loved! Otherwise I would have been burnt to a crisp lol! It was BYOB and the pontoon owner had several floats so we could relax in the water and sip adult beverages. We also brought snacks. We arrived at 9 AM and headed back at 1 PM. You have to time the day with the tide. The water was about waste deep. It was so much fun! There were floating cafes and gift shops nearby. There were also smaller boats that passed buy with food, drinks (non alcoholic), shirts and hats. If we saw something we liked we waved at them and they would stop by and let us get a closer look. If you've never been you must do it at least once. I promise you'll have fun (if you like boats and water)!

It's only accessible by boat, which becomes your "dry land" while you spend most of your time in the water. We did a 3 hour tour (there's longer tours if you'd like), which was perfect for our limited schedule, but I went in early April without realizing just how cold the water would be. Even so, the crystal clear water and overall experience made it worth it. It's a unique, fun spot with floating vendors, beautiful views, and a lively atmosphere, which I hear is amazing in the warmer months. Pros: * Unique experience * Beautiful, crystal-clear water * Fun and lively atmosphere (lots of boats around) * Floating vendors with food and drinks available * Great for photos * Flexible timing options Cons: * Water can be very cold depending on the season (early April was freezing) * You're in the water most of the time, limited "dry" space on the boat * Can be less enjoyable with young kids in colder weather (mine needed to be on floaters the whole time) * Requires some planning (bring sunscreen, towels, floaties, cash) * Likely gets very crowded/party-heavy during peak warmer months * Only accessible by boat, need to do tour or rent private boat

I had hoped more people would have dressed up but I too thought of breaking out my pirate clothes and decided against it. It was just too hot. I also timed my visit around the time the "pirates" were set to invade on their party barge and do battle with the mayor. I was very disappointed to see that the mayor and his posse not only did not put up a fight as advertised but they welcomed them and let them take over Fort Walton Beach. I had envisioned that there would be swashbuckling, shooting, screaming and perhaps a few casualties. BTW - if anyone actually does read my review I would be happy to do my civic duty and help out with the sword fighting next year.
