At the recommendation of a trainer, in early 2019, I tried Be Well's massage therapy to help with cope with chronic elbow and lower back pain. I now visit about once a week. Monica is my therapist and the hour I spend with her each week is one I look forward to most. Monica is incredibly knowledgable, skilled and clearly enjoys her work. She thoughtfully gets to the source of a problem and while alleviating my pain Monica takes the time to educate me as to how to mitigate the issues myself, via stretches, exercises and changes in physical behavior. So I had a persistent pain near my right shoulder blade for a long time - about a decade. I tried self-massage, different massage therapists, stretching exercises... nothing worked. Finally I went to Jim at Be Well and after 3 appointments the pain was completely gone. He really listened to the story of how the pain started and diagnosed where it was coming from. I have been coming to BWB for two years and it is by far the best place in the city for athletes. I have been to Janelle, Becca and Caroline and all three are fantastic. They listen to what is bothering you and then waste no time getting to the root of the problem, all while helping you understand what's going on and what you can do to help and heal it so that you get back out there as fast and as healthy as possible. This week I had an appointment with Caroline in only her first week at BWB. She was amazing. Without getting into specifics, the long story short is that something was bothering me, she spent a lot of time on it, now it feels like it never bothered me at all. Katrina and Jim are real miracle workers. I discovered Katrina about 10 years ago when I was having terrible terrible headaches related to back and neck tension. After many hours of massage, and patience, Katrina was able to work out all my knots. Now- I am able to go in once every 6-10 weeks or so for a tune up, and I am good to go! I have found my massage therapist! Jim is AMAZING! Having practiced yoga for almost 4 years I've become very conscious of the alignment of my body and tweakiness in different parts of my body. Working at a computer everyday, my pectoral muscles, neck, and shoulders are constantly feeling tight. And lately my hips have been pinchy feeling. First thing that makes Be Well amazing: the scheduling system is SUPER easy - just a few clicks and I had my appointment set up. Just down the street from the Old South Church and across the street from the main Boston public library, the door to the place is next to a restaurant with a patio (I was so relaxed after my appointment, I didn't even notice what the place was). Up the stairs or the elevator to the 2nd floor, and you're at Be Well, where Jim welcomed me. After filling out the paperwork, Jim brought me to the room, where we discussed my needs - tight shoulders, neck, mid-back, and hips. Jim was very attentive, checking in with me about the pressure, the room temperature, generally making sure I was comfortable. Best thing was that Jim heard me and what I was looking to do with my 90 minute appointment - to release tension in my upper back and hips - and he wasn't afraid of working out all the kinks with a good amount of pressure! And apparently there was a lot of junk in my left hip. I don't know what I was holding onto in my left hip, but there was a lot of energy in there. As Jim pushed into my hip and glut, I could feel my whole left leg twitch all the way through my toes, and I could feel heat throughout my body. crazy! One of the best parts of the appointment was at the end when Jim gave me some great tips and advice on how to improve my yoga practice. Like a doctor prescribing medicine I don't like, Jim told me I should practice pigeon and frog poses everyday. Yuck, but I know I need them both. I knew right then - I'm coming back here every 90 days! And while it's pricier than I'm used to, the no-tipping policy is really great. I can't think math to come up with a tip after a massage anyway! And so... Jim is my bodywork therapist! read more

Katrina is not only a very talented massage therapist, she is just the loveliest person! Be Well was recommended to me by a friend who also sees Katrina and we both swear by her magical hands. I have mild scoliosis and so back/hip aches are an every day occurrence for me. After I see Katrina, I am able to go on for almost two months without any issues. UPDATE: After my first experience (read below), Jim gave me a full refund and a coupon so I decided to give BWB another shot. Chad treated me today for a full one hour session. He was incredibly knowledgeable and professional. I am a cellist, so I carry a lot of tension in my shoulder/ neck and was diagnosed with sciatica this past October. Although I have my sciatica nerve under control by swimming every other day, it still comes back once in awhile. Chad focused on those areas and I felt like a million bucks after the treatment. I highly recommend BCB, they are very professional and respectful of their clients. ---------------- I would give it a 5 stars for the massage and 3 stars for my overall experience. I had a great massage experience at Be Well Boston. Caroline did some good work on me-- had a slight pinched nerve in my neck/ shoulder area. Got a decent relief after my massage. But... the reason for the 3 star is because my appointment was at 7:15 pm (for a 45 min session) and since it was my first time I figured I had to fill out some forms so I arrived at 7:00pm. Apparently the elevators required a code or some sort of scan card after a certain time. I was in the elevator for the longest time and couldn't figure out how to get upstairs. I used the stairs, but those were locked too. Finally I called BWB but it seemed like we had a miscommunication, I thought she was going to come down and get me but apparently I was supposed to get in the elevator and it would send me right up. Anyways, I arrived the office at 7:15, by the time I filled out the forms and got undressed it was already 7:30pm. My 45 min session still ended at 8:00 pm. I know BWB has a policy in which if clients arrive late then it's their responsibility, therefore the massage ends at the same time (8:00 pm), that way it doesn't affect the next client's schedule. Although, I was the last client of the day so it would have been nice if I got a full 45 min session but instead I paid 80$ for a 30 min session (including student discount). I was extremely bitter about it even though it was a great massage. I am a student, and my heart aches to spend that much money on anything! read more

Ya know how sometimes you can just tell whether or not you are in good hands? Two minutes into my initial conversation with Jessica, I knew that I came to the right place. The whole experience here was terrific. I recently had my first session with Jessica. She was sincerely interested in understanding what was bothering me, offered her expertise and guided our conversation to reach alignment on what would be best for me. The work she did on me loosened up my body and put me into a dream-like trance (you know what I'm talking about if you've had a great massage). After the session, she explained typical reasons why my lower back gets tight and demonstrated a few stretches that I now do on the regular. When I received a follow-up email with descriptions and images of the stretches Jessica went over with me, I was completely hooked. Not only is this incredibly caring, but also so appreciated since I was too out of it after my session to fully grasp how best to maintain my lower back. I have been working with Russell now for the past month. As an avid runner, I, unfortunately, developed two long-standing muscle strains/issues (Calf and Adductor). I'm happy to say thanks to Russell the calf issue is 100% resolved and the adductor issue is 95% and on its way to 100%. Russell has been great to work with. His approach and style were exactly what I was looking for. He focuses on the whole body and how each muscle works with one another. He quickly identifies the problem area and works at addressing it. I've been getting massages on a regular basis for several years and have seen therapists all over the country. I can confidently say that the team at Be Well is the best anywhere. I recently saw Russell who is a new addition to Be Well. I have had hundreds of massages over the 10+ years, but my massage with Russell may have been one of the best EVER! Russell is a true professional and extremely knowledgeable. He quickly identified the major issues I was having (without me even telling him) and methodically used a variety of techniques to relieve the pain I had been dealing with for several weeks (I'm currently training for an Ironman and have been struggling to stay healthy with all the training volume). While Russell's skill set and deep experience makes him qualified to work with serious athletes, I would also recommend him to anyone who might want to simply relieve stress and relax. I told him what needed to be worked on and he did a excellent job massaging those areas but also new other areas to work on just by looking at me. I came here on a recommendation from a friend. The first time I visited I saw Natalie (who is away on maternity leave at the moment I believe), and she really helped with my hamstring problems and calves. My most recent visit was to have my extremely knotty calves and PF taken care of. Noah did a fantastic job; my calves feel great now (though a little tender after the massage!) and I am back running already. I haven't been knot-free in months but I am hoping to keep them away now. I was referred to Tim at Be Well from a friend and personal trainer at Equinox. I'd been having pain in my leg and hip since 2008 (!!) after I pulled my hamstring and hamstring attachment during my yoga teacher training. I had tried EVERYTHING trying to get rid of the pain: massage, tui na, acupuncture, stretching, not stretching, strength training... you name it. Be Well is conveniently located on Boylston Street in a clean, fairly large studio that felt very serene and private. I explained my injury and pain and he immediately knew what muscles may be causing the discomfort. He even showed me on an interactive app where the muscles are, their names, and how they influence movement and alignment. I really appreciated his strong understanding of anatomy and physiology. He obviously really knows what he's talking about. The massage was awesome. I'm the kind of person who really likes deep, clinical bodywork that borderlines on painful (very painful!) but I feel like he was working the right muscles in a productive, corrective way. He finished the session with some stretching and strengthening demos. I've been looking for a go-to massage therapist in Boston for a long time. While I love a relaxing experience, what I really needed was someone who could help with the knots and pains that disrupt my life. After several massages that were either too gentle or too deep (and my husband was no longer willing to assist), I FINALLY found Caroline at Be Well Boston! She gets it. She understands referred pain, working on where the misalignment or muscle imbalance actually is, compared to just where the pain is presenting. After really messing up one of my shoulders, I booked three consecutive appointments (one per week) to deal with the problem and feel 100% back to normal. Now visiting between 4-6 weeks to maintain is exactly what I need to continue to feel good without extreme issues. If you're going to spend money on a gym membership or looking for post-PT bodywork, you should add Caroline to your regiment (she may even treat you to some Dave Matthews Band during the session!) I was introduced to Be Well Boston during a triathlon training weekend in 2010. Katrina was the first to work on me and she was amazing. The time she took to understand me during that first session was impressive. I have compartmental disorder and all the other issues 100 mile bike rides and marathons bring and she has always managed to relieve the pressure and to go above and beyond and teach me moves and stretches so I can try to relieve the pressure and tightness myself in between visits. Because I had just completed a heavy training weekend and was going to run a 1/2 marathon in a week my body really needed some work. I met Jim when living in Boston while pursuing a doctorate at Simmons College. Every two weeks, I'd come to see him with a 40-lb backpack of books hoisted on top of me that made me look like the circus was in town. This "bad back" behavior of mine resulted in one of the most challenging erector spinae (i.e., lower back tightness) Jim had thus far encountered (so he said, while ever so politely advising that I ditch the backpack). I have been seeing Jim Memory for 15 years. I have a chronic lower back issue due to an injury I sustained from a fall. Left unattended, my muscles tense up and result in crippling spasms that prevent me from doing activities of daily living. Jim is a master of his craft and helps to keep me moving! I work in an office and travel frequently so the combination of office work with airline seats creates havoc in my lower back. Jim is always able to pinpoint the tense spots, and work through them until my muscles release the tension.
