We recently visited Playseum for a playdate, and overall, it was a really fun experience! Located inside the Columbia Mall, it's filled with imaginative play stations that kept the kids entertained for hours. There are themed areas like a café, Italian restaurant, veterinary office, beauty salon, barbershop, grandma's house, and even a stage where kids can dress up and put on a play. If your child enjoys pretend play, this is definitely a great spot. I also appreciated that it encourages creativity instead of screen time. It's refreshing to see a place where kids can use their imaginations and just be kids. The only thing I didn't love was the pricing. Admission is $15 per person, including adults. I understand their explanation that they want parents to participate with their children, but in reality, many parents are simply supervising. Other similar indoor play spaces only charge for the children, or at least offer a reduced admission for adults. That pricing model would have made more sense to me. They also offer several add-on activities like decorating cupcakes, making slime, decorating cookies, baking, and even an animal encounter at the top of each hour. They're all cute options, but they do cost extra, so be prepared for the visit to add up if your child wants to do multiple activities. The animal encounter was fairly small, with just a few animals, but younger kids will probably still enjoy it. There is seating available for parents, although it can be limited since so much of the space is dedicated to the different play stations. Overall, the kids had a blast, the facility was clean, and there was plenty to keep them engaged. While I wish the adult admission and extra activity pricing were a little more family-friendly, I'd still recommend Playseum for a fun afternoon of imaginative play. Would I recommend this establishment...absolutely! Can't wait to go back! I found this place by searching for play activities near Columbia mall. I had never been here and wasnt sure what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised. Location: Inside the mall, on the first floor, right outside the Nordstroms. Easy to find. Cost: Worth the entrance fee, both child and adults have to pay. Fair price. There are also take home activities and play that cost extra, such as slime, treat making, soap making, and more. These extra activities are also fairly priced and and so much fun. The entrance fee to the Kids Playseum allowed you access to the establishment nextdoor, Playseum upstairs. They also have playseum bucks as well. Staff: Super nice, helpful, experienced and attentive staff. Everyone one we interacted with for our time there was fabulous. We were able to go to both the Be with me playseum and the playseum upstairs. Cleanliness: The kept a tight shop. The toys and amenities were well kept, organized, clean and in good condition. Options: There were so many rooms to play in, so many cute toys, books, dress up and imagination play. My favorite was the ice bucket where the fish were kept in the Safeway. Super cute! This place is awesome. We came here for a birthday party and they had individual stations for kids to interact with. There's literally something here for everyone. When we entered we were given $8 of their currency to spend inside. Most items or adventures are $3-5. My daughter ended up making her own body scrub and slime. While I like the idea of have kids "budget" their fun I wish it wasn't that serious. I can't imagine it would cost them much more, especially based off what they charge for birthday parties. Overall the staff were very friendly and helpful and everything inside was clean and santized. It would be nice if they placed a handwashing station in the middle of the venue. Currently there's a bathroom in the far corner that seemed very sketchy. read more

Visted the store this Sunday with my niece. She had a great time! Azareal was very helpful and answered a lot of questions. My niece loved it and fell asleep in the car on the ride home. Tired from all the playing. I took one star off because there was a delay before we could enter and an internet technical issue that needed to be resolved before the credit card machine would work. Despite the delay in start a great time was had. I suggest having packages with one fixed price where some of the ad on costs could be included ahead of time, so there is no need to go back to the cashier each additional time to pay for an activity. One charge should do it. Loved and appreciated the Christiam music from MN playing in the store. read more

There's a section in the middle of the room for the library to have story time. There's bunny rabbits and iguana was a big hit and attention seeker. I love the Playseum! This was our first time at this location-which I believe is fairly new-in the Mall at Columbia. I visited the locations in Annapolis and Chevy Chase with my 5 year old, but those locations have since closed. NOVA would benefit from having one! Anyways.... It's a pretend play concept. Each little area has a theme and then there are also add ons you can purchase, such as slime making, decorating cookies, and lip balm making. $15 is the price for all-day play for ages 1 and up. You can leave for lunch-chick fil A was our choice at the food court- and return. Every hour they bring out the animals (bunnies and reptiles) for petting. The places we played were: -camp ground (fishing, cookout, birds) -auto shop (also included a Little Tike's slide) -grocery store -dentist office -doctors office -ice cream shop -farm -fire station -Mexican restaurant -Italian restaurant -diner -beauty salon -vet shop -theatre/dress up -police station -Grandma's house (if you visit you will understand) There's a library as well but also books of the theme in each room. We also spent time in the back room with tables that have games and manipulatives. Despite being far from our home, it was a treat to visit and we will return! read more

This is my first time actually going into Playseum ( my daughter was too young to get the concept ) and let me tell you that I was amazed. Kids love to play pretend and this is the best place for their imagination to go wild!! They have a fun selection of different rooms geared towards different make believe scenarios. ( grocery store, jail, salon, a few kitchens, camping, dentist doctor etc) They have fun add on service ( like nail polish, decorate your own cupcake etc) as well as water and snacks ( which is always great to have readily available) It was $15 per person which at first I thought was a little high since it was my husband myself and my daughter and it's not like my hubs and I were going to really play in there...We definitely played a ton and ended up skipping the last few rooms because we realized we had somehow stayed over two hours!! My kids loved it, and there is an 8 year age gap between them, so consider older kiddos, too. Friendly and attentive staff, well run, clean and I cannot stress enough how much both kids loved it...So, we decided to have our toddler's birthday party here! It was OK but overpriced. We paid $15 each for two adults for a total of $60 (2 kids and 2 adults). Why am I paying for adult admission PLUS you charge for to do other activities. That seems absurd. Also, if you're going to charge that price I would expect for all items to be working and in great condition and for items to be constantly put back in their spots as kids go through. It was fine but for $60 dollars for basically an hour and a half, it wasn't worth it. Charge for kids, not adults. Took my grandson for his birthday. What a wonderful experience. He love all the activities. There were rabbits, a guinea pig and bearded dragon. Must say, the animals were well cared for. He learned a lot about the bearded dragon - so did I. The staff were unbelievably professional, kind and patient. The cost was more than reasonable considering we could come and go throughout the day. My Grandson summed it up when he said, Nana, this is my best birthday EVER. read more

It was an awesome place to play for my son. So many rooms to visit and he visited several of them. The employees were nice and it was clean. There was so much to do that he did not need to do the added activities that cost extra. The rooms he visited: astronaut, fire truck, campsite, racecar, library, old time house, beach, theater, doctor's office, dentist office, art room, courthouse, babershop/salon, pet grooming, mexican restaurant, & coffee shop. However, I don't agree with a fee for an accompanying parent. I had no idea I would have to pay to get in as well. I am use to going to play places where a parent/parents are free with a paid child since it is a children's play place. Even a nominal fee would have made sense but not the same price. read more

I took my kids here during a week day and we had the place to ourselves! They had so much fun exploring the rooms and doing the activities. There are so many things for the kids to explore you really could spend an entire day. They even have snacks for sale if you end up staying a while. I will say the pricing is higher than indoor playgrounds in the area because each individual is charged. The owner was very kind. We did cupcake decorating, pet some bunnies and played with kinetic sand at the hands on station. This would definitely be a great place for birthday parties. read more

If this was your a rule to pay for both the parents although only one parent was staying with kids in the building then why didn't you inform us when we were paying to you as you were on the cash counter. I made it very clear to you in the start that only one parent will be staying with both the kids in the building and you had no issue. How can you expect one parent to be with both the kids at same time? My daughter who is 8 year old and very well discipline, was working quietly on her art station when you went to her and rudely asked to leave the station although you knew it very well that her dad was inside playseum. As far as raising the voice is concern, I was very polite but your behavior towards us was quite rude since start and you were talking in a very bad tone to me, claiming that " Iam the owner and I know what to do". I was surprised as your staff was v polite to us when we visited for the first time. So it's not like that we don't know the policy as this was not our first visit. If you have opened a place for children , then you need to be polite and patience. read more

Great concept. Poor execution. I always go expecting to do a free activity that is constantly advertised (specifically in the art shop). Yet, the art shop is so confusing, you don't know what is free and what is not. When staff explained what was free, it consisted of empty drawers and dried markers. read more

The Playseum values PRIVACY! This is the ONLY kids establishment I've seen in MD/DC/VA that doesn't require you to sign a waiver to use your child's photos/likeness in their advertisements and social media. I'm a security and privacy SME so that was a huge reason for us going. I won't go anywhere that requires me to sign over rights (the risk is not worth it). I'm grateful to have found a place to take my kid and feel a level of security. Of course you can't totally avoid being in other peoples pictures, but at least the company is not using my child's image for their profit. My daughter and I spent 4 hours here and it was absolutely wonderful. If it were closer I'd go every day if I could. $30 for a mommy daughter day (with in and out privileges) was a great deal! And the 35 minute ride is absolutely worth it. The staff is lovely. The place is clean and extremely organized. The bathroom is immaculately clean and they think of the kids in varying stages of the potty training process which I appreciate. The pics on their site don't do it justice! There are lots of add on activities like painting ceramics, decorating cookies and cupcakes, science experiments, soap making. It's amazing! The sole purpose is to spend time with your kids and not leave them to themselves. Which is great for adults who need an excuse to just play and enjoy their kids! Even the patrons were kind! There were no tantrums or no loud noises. Added bonus: I met the owner and the woman loves the Lord, and it shows in the most beautifully authentic way. I will go back again and again. It was a wonderful experience to go to the Playseum with my children. There were plenty of activities and pretend play to keep them entertained. From the bakery, we had delicious cupcakes that we decorated ourselves. As well as making slime, the children visited the gift shop and pet shop inside the Playseum, where cute animals were waiting to be petted. It is very convenient to have everything under one roof when you have several children to look after. It was great and we'll be back again soon. read more
