This Macy's has been here for as long as I remember coming to this mall many moons ago! I usually park in the lot adjacent to this store, so I always end up walking through here to get into the mall. It's a convenient location. I don't shop in person much these days but if I need to find a Macy's, this is the one I'd chose. Had a weird interaction with a cashier who didn't believe that I got my coat in the $79 rack and made me go take pictures to prove it. That wasn't enough and then she went to verify it. If this store is typical of the Macy's brand, it is not what it used to be. First trip -- We were shopping for bed linens. The section is upstairs and was a mess. Brands and sizes were mixed. It looked like someone had intentionally tossed product around. Second trip -- Shopping for sun dresses. There were hundreds of dresses and the racks were so loaded that pulling out one would send others to the floor. Products were cheaply made--zippers didn't work or were too small, materials were thin. Workmanship was poor. read more

This is mostly a store I pass through on my way to other stores in the mall, but on occasion, I've been searching for a specific item (like a fancy dress) and will see what inventory Macy's has. This store has a wealth of options though I rarely find what I am looking for other than in the shoe department. This place has its ups and downs. More downs than ups for sure. I will start w the goodies. Great location. Awesome selection of everything. Clean. Kind and helpful employees. Non-goodies. Although the staff is great, there aren't enough. Rare registers open for check out. Super long lines at cash register. Super long lines at the 1 dressing room open for women. Difficult as h*ll to find the dressing room that's open. ... as well as registers that are open. The temperature on 1st floor always feels like 110 degrees, year-round. This place is ok for a quick shopping trip if you need something like a suit or dress but other than that I'm not sure it's worth the visit. The place feels disorganized and unstructured. The women's department in particular feels cluttered and chaotic. The dressing rooms are nuclear disasters and are piled with clothing. On the floor the clothing always seems thrown around and on the floor and I never see sales associates around. They're kind of like ninjas and I'm almost certain they lurk to stay out of sight. I usually have to go to either polo or ask someone in fragrance for an associate to check out. I don't come here unless it's a last ditch effort. read more

Long story short don't work here or shop Here. I've never had a good experience here. Their practices are sketchy at this location. Often I would find returns of expensive brand name items that were obviously fake and would be resold as authentic. I went to macys in columbia today to return/exchange 2 pairs of earrings I purchased in Towson the day before. The vibe in there is not good. I worked at the MAC counter in the Macys at the MALL OF COLUMBIA COLUMBIA,MD. My first day on the floor there was no one to help me. My other 3 days on the floor I was met with a rude manager. I tried to talk to the woman that hired me and due to the circumstances of the meeting, I was not comfortable disclosing my issues. I texted her and she said I could meet with her. The morning of the meeting i woke up to discharge paperwork in my email. When interviewed I was told there was a turnover at MAC. I know the reason. And it seems the higher up people ignore the reason. Because if I noticed in 4 days.... Exactly. I am disheartened by the way everything was handled. Macy's in Columbia Mall has effort to change their ways. Customer service areas have increased on each floor which allows for shorter cashier lines and easier access to employees. Fitting rooms have been added to each floor as well. If you want one that is always empty, go to the return area and use the fitting room next to them. The returns team is amazing. I frequent this location due to them--they make everything easy! Tons of parking at this location. You have two parking garages and also a giant parking lot. read more

Got to say the fitting rooms are unsightly as there were piles of clothes on the racks, floor, wall hooks, and bench. It felt overwhelming. Also, there doesn't seem to be as many sales associates at the registers. The lines are long. Perhaps that is why I typically go early in the morning to avoid lines in the fitting room and registers. I also dislike that coupons cannot be used on promotional offers. There seems to be a lot of exclusions, but I keep coming back because I like their selection and variety of merchandise. read more

I had to pick up my Clinique order today, received that order. I proceeded to Mac, couldn't find anyone to help me, when I finally found someone, that employee was rude! I then proceeded to shoe dept, couldn't find anyone to help me. I proceed to the jewelry dept(costume) no one to help, wondered around for 10 minutes! Headed to the checkout I usually use, second floor exit by book store, no longer there! At the end of my shopping trip to Macy's, my Clinique bag ripped, had to go back to Clinique and asked for a bag! The only thing I have to say, Macys get your act together!!! This was first time in Macy's in about two years. I visited today because I made an online purchase that needed to be returned and exchanged. I arrived when they first open with the expectation that they were ready for business. I was told that it would have been better if I had arrived about a half hour later for everything to be fully up and running. The return/exchange process was a little more difficult than expected. This review is only for the Men's suit department... My husband and I went to get a new suit for an upcoming wedding. When asking Jose a simple question of where can we find the matching pants to the suit jacket we found, he went above and beyond to find a suit that would fit my husband's athletic figure. He explained what to look for in an ideal-fitting suit, and even had my husband try on different suit jackets to show how one looked better vs the other and the reason why. Usually when walking into Macys, you're on your own when it comes to looking for something you need. However, Jose went the extra mile to make a stressful shopping experience an enjoyable one. His customer service skills are meant for high-end companies (sorry Macys!) such as Tom Ford, Gucci, or Burberry (you know... places that actually cater to your needs the moment you walk in the store). Thank you so much Jose for sharing your knowledge, but also sharing your charismatic personality. I witnessed this with every interaction while waiting in line to purchase the suit. I was looking for a shoe to purchase to attend a wedding. I asked the attendant for sizes and he quoted that he had my size. He came out and brought everything but the one I wanted in the size he quoted. I purchased it because it was cutting close to the day. I went to shop throughout the mall. My instinct told me to come back and ask another salesperson and low & behold, they actually did have the size. This has got to be THE WORST Macy's ever. I have several complaints. However, I will focus on the worst one. From the moment I entered the store, I was racially profiled by your security on the 3rd floor in your "backstage" area. At first I was wondering why this guy was following me around. At one point, he was arm's distance away from me. I kept browsing the racks, and every time I moved, this guy was damn near on my back. So I turned and gave him a look and walked away. Guess what? He pops back up again when I was over by luggage. Later, after doing my own investigation, I found out this guy is part of your security team. I understand you all have theft problems, but your staff needs training before you all find yourself in a situation. The next time I am profiled in your store, I will take legal action. No one should be harassed by security while shopping. Im sure you all have cameras to assist you in catching criminals instead of trailing innocent people around the store while the true criminals are ripping you off. Later, I went into a fitting room and found several security sensors laying around on the floor. You all really need to learn how to effectively perform security detail. read more

I tried to use the Macy's app only to find out that I could not add a credit card due to the system being down. I started using computers when I was 12 years old, way back in the 1970s. The clerks won't do anything to help me shop IRL. I asked them to summon the manager and when she arrived and we spoke she simply asked how I wanted to pay. The staffing here is very poor. When I worked for Hecht's we had 2 people at each bay at any given time and double that on the holiday. I came and there was 1 person at each bay with a line of people waiting to see jewelry. I had an inquiry and wanted to see a chain. After 15 minutes of waiting at two different bays, I walked away. I came back an hour later after going to 6 other jewelry location and making my purchase at the last. I came back to compare prices. Again I waited 15 minutes but I was aggressive and stalked then pulled an employee as soon as she completed a transaction. She confirmed that management had irresponsibly understaffed although staffing was available. They are commissioned based and she stated that because if the staffing issue, she lost a lot of revenue due to people walking off due to the wait and the number of people ahead of them waiting to be serviced. I rarely go to Macy's as I get most things from Nordstrom but I used to patronize frequently. I'm very disappointed that the negligence in staffing adequately reflects on the customer service, but it does. When you do finally get Service they are great but the wait.... I think walking through the Sahara Dessert with no water is more pleasureable than the agony of having to wait for service. I'm not sure the focus of Macy's but you can't gain revenue when people leave intended purchased due to the wait. Macy's seems to forget, you don't hold a monopoly. The customer service at this Macy's is ineffective at best. I returned an Adrianna Pappell dress to them, since they are a vendor and I thought they would honor the return. Apparently they would not, but it took them 8 months before ANYONE reached out to me. After numerous emails, snail mails, even got signature confirmation they received my $190 dress, that started in Feb. 2022 - it's now Oct. 2022 I was just told they sent the dress back to me 3 weeks ago through USPS, but were not able to provide a tracking number - because they don't do that. Adrianna Papell was willing to work with me if I could get Macy's to return the dress. I will NEVER shop at this Macy's ever. read more

Literally, my nephew and I walked around looking for winter coats and gave up. The shoe selection was also a joke. Needless to say, we gave up and went to JC Penney for a coat. read more

Well yelper's I don't usually do a store review. I hate shopping but I wanted to remark in this stores shoe department. I was with the family and they wanted to look for sandals. So we hit the stores women's shoes. Let me tell you brother it looked worse than a 15yr olds room. Shoes everywhere on the floor I the chairs and in the isles. Meanwhile the floor staff were standing around chatting with each other like it was break time. You would think they would pick up and clean up. My review is solely for the mattress section of the store. I started my mattress journey here and I guess I needed to start off somewhere that completely sucked so I could appreciate the speciality stores.. I wandered around aimlessly for close to 20 mins while one of the sales guys sat on one of the beds playing on his phone. Its funny how hit or miss this store can be. Shoe department - solid miss 100% of the time, but the rest you never know if things are going to be impeccable, with staff willing to help, or an abandoned mixed up area. I get it - it's a big store, with lots of staff, and a ton of customers coming through. In the end, I sometimes find what I need, usually it's a pretty good price, occasionally it comes out to be less than I expected, and once the cashier added in a coupon just to be nice. Still, it's three stars on average, as it's a Macy's, it's what you expect at a big department store, and I'm happy it's there for when I need it. read more

If you can just save yourself the extra headache I bought furniture last year and since last year I have been trying to get it fixed or replaced and they have done neither I have made over a 130 trips to the store to try to get this dealt with and that store manager has sent who knows how many emails to his regional to try to get this sorted out. Then they proceeded to schedule text to come out a few times and the text never showed up and then when I go in there to address it they say well they're just shortstaff. Well here we are a year and a 1/2 later and I was delivered broken furniture and the furniture was never fixed and absolutely a bad taste in my mouth for this place. And just in case anyone is wondering yes I did call the service center and yes there was multiple conversations with them when they'd scheduled text to come out and they stop returning phone calls also. So again just save yourself the headache and just go to a different furniture store. Update, the message here said to contact. I have contacted multiple times and files a BBB report were they lied and said I didn't contact... Don't fall for thier so what normal customer service.. this place and company is a pile of crap and will sell you the same. .. von you into purchasing a service plan and then do nothing. Oh and the store manager TJ is a joke of a manager also. Spent way to many days and and hours talking and trying yo resolve the issue. I wanted to leave a review for this Macys location since they have now reopened post quarantine. On Saturday, this location re opened for their first day of business since the covid closure and I went in to do a quick return. My experience was similar to every other shopping experience at this location that I've had over the past 8 months. The shelves were neatly stocked, the floors were clean & there were associates available to help anywhere you needed. Since the re opening, they have added a plexi glass shield at every register, Hand sanitizer throughout the store & all of the associates are wearing masks. I even noticed there was plastic at every key pad where you insert your credit card which makes for an easy clean & more sanitary swipe. I know a lot of shoppers are skeptical about going back out in to the shopping world... rest assured that your experience at Macys Columbia will be sanitary & as safe as possible. read more

I haven't been to Macy's literally in years. I found it becoming very cluttered like a Marshall's or something. Also I found the brands not impressive, borderline Kohl's. A lot of the same items could be found at Lord and Taylor or Nordstrom. However I found a Free People online which was at both Lordy and Macy's. I chose Macy's because I knew their boot section would have better selections as I was pressed for time. I walk in the upper home level to avoid Saturday chaos. Their section of clearance items I must say is very neat and full of great finds for your kitchen and home. After this brief distraction I continued my mission. Down to misses I go. After getting lost in dresses which is now seems like a good chunk of the floor(nice) I went to the contemporary side. I couldnt navigate as there seemed to be racks everywhere so I go approach an associate. I wasn't sure if she was a vendor or associate as her staying in one place with stickers proved she at least worked there, but her lack off customer service seemed vendor like lol. I asked if she worked here, "yea." Mmmmm kay, where is your Free People. She pointed right under a sparkly chandelier. I go over found what I was looking for but could not find the size as everything was mixed up. I asked her to help me locate more, she said "they will all be over there in Free People. No shit Sherlock. However I found the same sweater in a different size in a different area. Just say you're too busy to help us commoners dear. I said forget it put it back and grabbed something else. I was ready to check out and went to a desk manned unfortunately by this same girl. She was on the phone, didn't appear to be in a rush to assist customers there either so I walked around to find another desk. Ended up by INC desk manned my two ladies who were very pleasant. When called up by Amal, I explained that this isn't what I really wanted but could not get help. However this sweater had a hole due to the security tag. I asked her to help me find another, SHE LOOKED!!!!! There weren't anymore. I kindly asked if she could take something off then. I didn't even know it was on sale and would have gladly taken a measly 5%. Turns out it was actually 60% off and she gave me at first 15, then 20% off that sale price. I know there are people who purposely damage clothes or complain about the customer service to get discounts. Not me, I just thought it was full price and damaged so why would you sell it full price. Amal was very kind. Please let her know that. I have worked retail majority since I started working, I know the frustration. No help, overworked, etc etc. However one thing remains the same no matter the workload. Good CUSTOMER SERVICE is expected. That first young lady could use a personality adjustment. In a time where the internet is becoming big store's biggest competition, putting them out the game, consider why!! People would rather shop in the store.
