Making this a priority - is important. All of you out there "newlyweds" trust me it makes a difference. So we went to the Colony theater on Lincoln Road. It was a cool night -perfect for a cocktail, relaxing and easy.. no hurry just taking in the sights and sounds. Latin music playing in the background, smell of perfume and spices in the air- outdoor cafes with with the warmth of flame lamps lighting the cool air. Breezing into the theater the sweet girl at the door greeted us with a huge smile and scanned our tickets. I fell in love with the play " Anna in the Tropics" this extraordinary play written by the Pulitzer Prize winner Nilo Cruz-playwright and director -is a work of art! It demonstrates the power of literature to move and inspire you. One of my favorite books, Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy, is central to this play. I thoroughly enjoyed the powerful images presented in this masterpiece. Art and literature came together in an extraordinary and impactful way. It is a play for adults because it deals with strong themes. But it is well done! I highly recommend this play! It is worth every penny. The quaint theatre situated on Lincoln Road surrounded by restaurants and bars was also quite comfortable and accommodating.

The Colony Theater is a historic performing arts center on Lincoln Road in Miami. Built at a cost…read moreof $150,000, it first opened as a 1,200 seat Art Deco Paramount Pictures movie house on January 25, 1935 with actress Carol Lombard as the guest of honor. In the 1940's during WWII, the theater showed health and training videos to GI's in training. In the 1960's the movie theater was renovated along with all of Lincoln Road in the MiMo style of architecture (midcentury modern). Seating capacity was reduced to 894 seats. In the ensuing years the Colony used as a movie house and a live performance space. In 1971 Samuel Kipnis purchased the theater and used it to host The Greater Miami Educational Cultural Series and he showed educational films from his private collection. In 1982 ownership of the theater was taken over by the City of Miami Beach and the Miami City Ballet used it as a performance space. In 2006 the Colony Theatre underwent a $6.5 million renovation that returned it to its original Art Deco style and updated it with new light and sound equipment. I love when a historic building is saved, especially when it is such a wonderful example of Art Deco architecture. How wonderful that the theater is still being used today. It is even said to be haunted to be the spirit of a barking poodle and one that likes to hang out by the main stage and lobby. Today the Colony Theatre is a 417 seat performance venue managed by South Florida theater company, Miami New Drama who perform their theatrical season in the theater. The Colony also hosts film festivals, comedy, music, dance, and theater performances. The theater is nicknamed "Miami's Beauty Queen." Make like the golden age of Hollywood and take in a show. .

There's this retro-style entrance with a mini food truck setup where you can grab snacks, drinks, and even cocktails before heading up. It already feels like an experience before the movie even starts. Then you get to the rooftop--and wow. Open-air cinema, Miami skyline, perfect weather... it doesn't get more "Miami night" than that. They give you wireless headphones so you can fully immerse yourself in the movie without distractions, which I thought was such a cool touch. We watched The Dark Knight, one of our favorites, and seeing Heath Ledger as the Joker on a rooftop under the Miami sky? Unreal. Still the best Joker, in my opinion. The whole experience felt relaxed, different, and honestly kind of romantic without trying too hard. Perfect for a date night or just doing something out of the usual dinner routine. Definitely adding this to our list of go-to Miami date spots.

I didn't realize this was a headphone thing; they provide headphones that you have to use to listen to the audio. They were not extremely comfortable (hurt my ears by the end) and the sound quality was bad, and I'm not much of an audio snob so they must have been really bad for me to notice. Also near the end they just switched and started playing the audio out loud for no particular reason, which just made me wish it had been that way the whole time. The food was also not great; I got the nacho dog and every piece of it was not quite right; chips a little stale, dog a little waterlogged, just not great. The drinks were pretty good; I got the strawberry daiquiri and another one whose name I forget, but both were pretty good. And the general experience of being on a rooftop watching a movie was still as fun and novel as you'd expect. Bathrooms were fine, parking was easy. If a movie I wanted to see was playing and someone invited me, I'd be happy to go again, but I probably won't suggest it.

We had a memorable time viewing the "Library of Us" during Art Basel at Faena Beach on the first…read moreday, thanks to good friends of ours. We were anxious to see this unique library sculpted by British artist Es Devlin. The Library of Us" is a 20-foot-tall, 50-foot-wide kinetic, rotating sculpture commissioned by Faena Art for Miami Art Week/Art Basel December 2025. It featured 2,500 books in a triangular, glowing, water-surrounded structure, offering a reflective space for art and book lovers to pass some time with books that Ms Devlin has collected. I read at least one book per week every week so I enjoyed this never before seen sculpture! It was amazing! The exhibit was for a couple of weeks and had lots of visitors. We really enjoyed a nice relaxing time there.

In hindsight now most of the feedback from Art Basel proper is that it could get a bit overwhelming, with so much art and so many people. This is why Vernissage is such a wonderful event, it is much less crowded, and gives you the opportunity to get in the very first night and not only appreciate the art in a more intimate setting and sometimes even talk to the artists. There were a couple of bars that I noticed, and the lines to buy wine not that bad. I will now make it my official purpose in life to score these tickets again for next year. This event is by invitation only so as the schedule notes, don't come if you don't have an invitation... there are no ticket sales at the door. I am forever grateful to our good friends for the invite.

Its voluptuously curved corner, sweeping horizontal canopies, stylized sculptural reliefs, and brilliantly lit marquee brought energy to a Miami Beach still recovering from a 1926 hurricane and the Great Depression. Thomas W. Lamb collaborated with Robert E. Collins on the design of the building: Lamb was a noted theater architect in New York who crafted the interiors for the Wolfson-Meyer Theater Company, while Collins was a prominent local architect who designed the nearby Cameo Theatre. The Scottish-born Lamb studied at the Cooper Union, and began designing theaters in the 1910s. He designed movie palaces for Fox and Loew's theater companies, and had worked with Joseph Urban on the 1927 Ziegfeld Theatre on Broadway. The Wolfson-Meyer Theater Company was founded in 1925 by brothers-in-law Mitchell Wolfson and Sidney Meyer, who had earlier commissioned Collins to design the Tower Theatre in Little Havana. The Lincoln Theatre stopped showing films in the 1980s. In 1988 Michael Tilson Thomas leased the building for use by the New World Symphony..The orchestral academy hired Gerald F. DeMarco to renovate the structure, which they purchased in 1990. As the New World Symphony prepared to move into its new Frank Gehry-designed facilities in 2011, the Lincoln Theatre was transformed again. This time, the prime tenant was clothing retailer H&M. Architect Allan Shulman, working with architect-of-record Kobi Karp and interior architect Jeffrey Taylor, adapted the former auditorium into a dramatic retail space, which is visible on the exterior through enormous storefront windows cut through the rear facade.

I used to love coming here with my family, so I decided to come watch the JJK movie that was…read moreshowing here with my brother. Now, I am an adult and my brother's guardian, which I thought seemed obvious. Keep this in mind, this movie is PG-13, and my brother is 17. But, as I was asking for directions to one of the employees which theater the movie was playing in, they denied us entry saying "He can't come in without his parents." When I went to explain that I'm my brother's guardian they said, "Yeah, but a guardian isn't a parent. We recently changed our policy so you can't get in." I was genuinely confused, and wondering if this employee didn't know the definition of a legal guardian was, and we don't have access to our parents because they were out of the country on vacation. Plus, I had already bought one adult and child ticket and our snacks totaling to just over $40! They called the manager and they eventually let us in, so thankfully we still got to see our movie and had a good time. I just wasn't expecting one of the staff members trying to intimidate us. The only reason I'm not giving this place a one star is because the rest of the staff was very nice and the movie was stellar - just beware!
