Everything except for the location. The size of the room was small and cramped. The furniture was stained and outdated. The inside of the drawers were dirty. The bathroom door can't open all the way and bumps into the vanity. The driveway is extremely bumpy. Also, after being out for a long day, went to the office to ask for some wash cloths and she gave me an attitude saying I should've asked for them earlier!! We tested positive for COVID with fevers and all the symtoms. They would not allow us to shift the check-in date, and were very rude about it. I'm not sure why they'd want us in their check in area and hotel when we are super sick. It wouldn't be fair to the other guests or employees. We have stayed here two other times, and each time it gets worse in terms of the room condition, service, and overall experience. This really was the final straw. read more

I booked a one-night stay here because Booking.com had a 7.7 rating and the price was good for the location. I was expecting a non-luxury but clean and comfortable room. That wasn't the case. The room was run-down with a stained chair and soap scummed shower head, chipped tile in the bathroom and a dirty shower curtain. The mattress felt old and was not especially comfortable. The location on the other hand was great. It was walking distance to the beach, to the boardwalk, and to downtown with lots of shops and restaurants. The service was fine, and the people working there were nice. They held my luggage after checkout while I did some exploring and everything was safe there. There was one thing that was a little surprising. The office closed at 9pm. I called and let them know that my flight arrived about that time and I would be checking in a little later. They said that is fine, and just to ring the bell when I arrive. I arrived and a man in pajama bottoms came to check me in. I wouldn't really mind that if every thing else was good, but just not that professional. If I had to come to Santa Cruz again, I would not come to this motel, I would find another place even if it meant paying more. read more

This hotel (or motel, to be more accurate) doesn't quite look like motel 6 from the outside. But it is certainly run down, more so than even some motel 6 inns. I'm not even picky or critical when it comes to hotels, but basic necessities should at least be functional. The mini fridge was falling apart, couldn't even close properly because a piece of the fridge was falling off the inside of the door. The shower head was squirting water out the top, lightly spraying outside the shower curtain, onto the toilet, floor, etc. When I first turned it on, I thought the ceiling was leaking. I didn't have time to deal with this, so I just covered my belongings with a towel and took a very quick shower. The tv and remote were nonfunctional and confusing. The remote is so worn, you can't see the functions/symbols on the buttons. And if you can figure out how to work the tv, you don't know which channels work. Using "up and down" channel button, many channels just say no access, so it's very inconvenient and confusing if you're looking for something to watch (what kind of cable is this?!? Lol). The heater/AC is loud throughout the night. Temperature control is fine, but it makes a loud sound every 30 minutes or so, like a bang coming from a furnace and a whistling noise.. I can sleep through anything, but that woke up my boyfriend in the middle of the night. Those were the main issues I experienced during my one-night stay. Smaller issues include things like stains/burn marks on the mirror, smudged chocolate/dirt/ stains on the bed scarf, shoddy wifi, and the ice machine was out of order. I don't mind this too much because I just used a different side of the mirror, threw the bed scarf on the floor, and used my cell phone's network for service.. and if you use the fridge, you don't really need ice. If you don't mind the major flaws I mentioned, you can appreciate some pros about this place. The staff was friendly. There's a view if you are upstairs and request an "ocean view" (that includes a view of the parking lot too, lol... see my photo). They have free parking included. They are a 4-5 minute walk to the beach, and 8-10 minute walk to the boardwalk. There's a cute coffee shop right next door, and a taco bar across the street. And at least they have a fridge and microwave (if you're lucky, they're functional). Apparently, they also offer "continental breakfast" if you care for that kind of thing (but not during the pandemic). read more

This place was great for the price & you can't beat the view! We were there to celebrate my birthday and asked the lady at the front desk if we could get an ocean view room & she was happy to accommodate us. If you don't care about all of the frills and things, it's a great place. We had super cool neighbors on the second floor. There are definitely some sketchy people around there, at night, but you can find sketchy people anywhere. You can walk right down to the wharf & Boardwalk. It's a perfect location and great pricing for what you get. read more

BED BUGS and poor management - BEWARE. Stayed a night in Room #103 on Saturday, August 1, 2020. Woke up with bed bug bites and had an allergic reaction. I informed the workers when checking out and they told us to call back the next day when the manager is back to further discuss a refund or discount. Called back twice and was rudely told that the manager is "busy" and "there's nothing they can do." I have hard evidence and pictures and plan to take further action. Please save yourself from the trouble and stay in another hotel. You can find one for $60/night. This location charged $200/night. read more

I travel to Santa Cruz 2 to 3 times a year for business and have been doing so for the last 10 years. I've stayed at many hotels in Santa Cruz and this hotel will be the only hotel I stay at,if rooms are available, for now on! The location is amazing. I am pretty sure I could throw rock into the ocean its so close The rooms are nicely, remodeled, cozy, clean, comfortable bed, 40" TV and very friendly gentleman at the front desk. What a dumpster fire of an operation over here. The manager came out yelling at me accusing me of being a homeless person in his parking lot. There was no parking on there lot so I had to park on the street. Then while going back out to my car the manager, looking like hes high on methamphetamines, came out and started yelling at me. I was staying at an airbnb and the house cat pissed on the bed, so we got this place at like 7pm. Lady was very nice, with a friendly dog. The location of this hotel was ideal and the staff were extremely friendly but the room itself was a disappointment. It was dirty, repairs needed to be made almost everywhere, and the towels and shower were not clean at all. There were black strands of long hair so that grossed me out. I enjoyed the free parking because I was so close to the boardwalk, the wharf, and a quick walk to the downtown area. However, the ice machine was out of order and the room itself was not up to par, and likely not up to the housing code. The photos do not do it justice because it really needed repairs. This is a great location, but that's about it. The parking lot is insanely steep and bumpy! The room... door does not close for the bathroom! You cannot close it! Then, the toilet handle kept falling off and we had to rig it to work. The towels are the thinnest and least absorbent I've ever used. Not sure why they charged my card $100 for incidentals- they are NONE! You get a shampoo and two very small soaps. The price was almost $300 a night and not worth it! read more

Super nice staff and convenient location however it was insanely overpriced for what it was. I was told the place was recently renovated but I question that. The carpets and upholstery had stains everywhere and it was kind of gross. The rooms were pretty bare with hardly any amenities. For $500 for the weekend I would expect a lot more than what I received. For that price I can stay at the higher end hotels in Santa Cruz. I didn't get to check out the breakfast as I was racing early in the morning. The rooms don't have coffee pots because I was told they get stolen. When we checked in they also warned us about looting in the parking lot which is not fun. For convenience- 5/5- everything else- 2/5. read more

We booked a room here online , it looked nice in the pics... When we arrived & looked @ the hotel it was run down looking.. The lady @ the front desk( i assume was the owner) was VERY RUDE from the get.. Plus she told me that i had to put $100 security deposit down...!!! So when we got into the room & looked around we noticed that the bathtub had jets, but on one of the filter caps was covered in black mold!! Disgusting!! Then in the sink the stopper was covered in black mold as well.. (See attached pics). In the morning we were running a little late so we called the front desk asking for a late check out, & we were told that 11:15 was the latest we could get!! WTF? So we scrambled to get our things together & then the phone in the room rings & the rude lady told us that housekeeping is @ our door, & they need to clean the room.. So as were taking trips to the car(we were upstairs, even after i told her we were handicap)& the entire time the housekeepers were literally surrounding the walkway right outside our door & had irritated looks on their faces.. We tried saying bye to them & we were ignored.. I will NEVER come back here! If you own a hotel & work the desk, you should have a good attitude, and be friendly!!! read more

The walls are a bit thin but I'm use to traveling with ear plugs so it worked out. I would stay here again. The money saved afforded me to have a couple of extra cocktails with dinner. We went here to escape the ghetto, not take it with us. SHEEEESH This place is a little run down. My boyfriend and I only came here because it was super close to the boardwalk and it was a last minute thing. For two nights we paid around 362$. Price differs per day. This Inn is definitely strange and super noisy. All we can hear are kids playing around and foot steps all day long. I don't recommend anyone coming here.. lol pretty dirty. Decent service, but the parking lot area is steep and the lot is also not very large. This is not really a beach view hotel unless you are on the second floor toward the south end and even then you get other building tops and a partial view of the ocean. The pier is right down the street and within walking distance. Covid review - there is an outdoor window for checking in and out. There are several stores around the area but none are open but two in the area so it is really hard to find food in this area. The bed was pretty firm and the pillows were so thin. The bathroom door opens in reverse direction and hits the bathroom sink. This is a very small hotel, but for one night stay after driving several hour it is worth the stay. I would not recommend this place for an extended stay unless you are okay with not having a refrigerator, microwave, etc. and enjoy a cozy small room. read more

Not anytime with a full sized SUV or truck will want to park somewhere else very tight parking. Would be 5 star if not for poor housekeeping. Very dirty. Carpets in need of vacuuming. Dust collected to the point of becoming muddy grime. Hairs of unknown origin in plain sight in shower and back of toilet on follow and on counters. And can't expect to much on a cheaper hotel but no hot water in the morning. So recommend showing at night. So other than cleanliness highly recommend when on a budget. read more

I was really hoping to love this spot because the price was good. I paid $140 for one night. First of all, the room wreaked of pineal or another pine cleaner when I first went into it. I know being clean is good but not to the point where you can't breathe. I left the room with the window open for at least 3 hours. It was a little better when I got back, but the room wasn't cleaned properly. There was still hair in the toilet and tub, the baseboards were filthy and there were a couple of flies flying around. The towels were old and hard. I just felt nasty sleeping there but didn't have a choice. The next door neighbor was extremely loud. First, they were playing music very loud and second spent all night yelling, slamming things around and fighting with one another. It was quite disturbing. The bed frame was in very poor condition. Any type of movement made a huge noise. I gave it the two stars for the location and price. If that's all that matters then good read more

This motel has very responsive staff, the rooms are clean, and the only reason I'm not giving 5*s is that there is no hair dryer or iron/ironing board, which is pretty standard in most other motels. Beautiful views. Stayed here this summer while I was relocating back home to Santa Cruz. The coffee and popcorn in the lobby were a nice touch. The coffee was Santa Cruz coffee roasters. The fire pit and the pool were buzzing, but not too busy either. The shower was my favorite. I would definitely recommend. Our ac unit was broken and it took a day to fix it, but they reimbursed us for the day that we had heat blasting in a very hot summer day. I would definitely recommend them. The aesthetic is very nice and that's the first thing I look for, so you won't be disappointed by that and the view again-- goes without saying. read more

I have seen this hotel many times, but I never knew what it was. On the outside it almost appear to be some sort of antique shop or museum. The outside consists of a huge wall that blocks the street from the hotel rooms, which is nice considering that the outside street gets a lot of traffic. The parking is alright too, unless you come later when everyone starts to fill in then parking is almost impossible. At any rate, we checked in and the guy at the front seemed very personable and easy to talk to. We got our room keys and we were on our way to our room. Luckily for me, when I called to check in to our hotel, the lady was able to hook me up with a beach view room- only 2 out of the 20ish bites have. Beachview so that's awesome. When I got in, I noticed a clean smell, somewhat of a lysol or lemon cleaner scent. I liked it; however, based on other reviewers some people do not like it, but it was alright for me. The room seemed somewhat small, but the walls aren't too thin despite being close to one another. The overall class of the room is alright, there is a mini fridge and microwave inside the room which is awesome. We drove to Trader Joe's down the street and got enough food to last us the weekend. At any rate, the best thing about this hotel it's location. It is literally a 2 minute walk to the beach, in fact, we can see the beach from the hotel, hence the name beach view. Not only is it close to the beach but it is relatively close to anything else, venturing off into local cities, exploring the rest of Santa Cruz, or enjoying the boardwalk, this hotel is great for all that! Definitely worth it in my opinion. Very pleased with the quality and service I received! Booked one night over the phone directly (Thursday) $145, room # 203. No "beach view, it was a view of the street (morning was noisy), queen bed and roll away cot. Room was clean, furniture was updated, except for the red sofa chairs were a little soiled (I didn't care). Pillows and bed were comfy (NO BEDBUGS) sheets were clean and soft. Bathroom looked good to me. Staff was polite and friendly, we were allowed to park after checkout and enjoy the Boardwalk on Friday. Great coffee bar right next to the inn, close to a liquor store for drinks and snacks, just a few minutes to walk to the boardwalk. I have stayed all over Santa Cruz and would gladly stay again at Beach View Inn. read more

OK, if you're looking to be cosely located to Downtown and the beach broadwalk then this is the place to be. Simple, low key, nothing fancy. For about $70-80/night it's not a bad deal. Seriously, how much time are you going to spend in the room anyways.. If you're looking for a nicer room, then there's some B&B's and fancier hotels. But I enjoyed it. Raj who manages the place is very friendly. The continetal breakfast is just milk, sunny delight, pastries and really weak coffee. I would suggest heading to downtown for some awesome brunch! Tip: *Bring your hairdryer if you need. *Pillows if you are really picky, but you can ask for more pillows at the front desk. *Conditioner for your hair. The sun really takes a beating. Worth it! Walking distance to Santa Cruz Boardwalk was pleasant, booking hotel room was smooth for one night and front desk lady was nice. BUT you can tell the building was old! The 208 room smelled musty, had old carpets and didn't see any BED BUGS. However after we left, I noticed many bites around my ankles, a few on my feet and on my thighs. I remembered I only covered my lower body (mainly legs) with the blankets because I was afraid of bed bugs. Never experienced bed bugs bites until now and they ICTH and takes a long time to heal!! Because it's been 2 weeks and the bites still itch like CRAZY! My ankle swelled up from scratching the bites so much! With that said, pay another $50 to stay at a newer hotel.
