Ok for a budget stay. Room cleanliness was decent. Our room was right by the side street so there was a lot of traffic noise early in the morning. Our towels had hairs on it.

I booked a one-night stay here because Booking.com had a 7.7 rating and the price was good for the location. I was expecting a non-luxury but clean and comfortable room. That wasn't the case. The room was run-down with a stained chair and soap scummed shower head, chipped tile in the bathroom and a dirty shower curtain. The mattress felt old and was not especially comfortable. The location on the other hand was great. It was walking distance to the beach, to the boardwalk, and to downtown with lots of shops and restaurants. The service was fine, and the people working there were nice. They held my luggage after checkout while I did some exploring and everything was safe there. There was one thing that was a little surprising. The office closed at 9pm. I called and let them know that my flight arrived about that time and I would be checking in a little later. They said that is fine, and just to ring the bell when I arrive. I arrived and a man in pajama bottoms came to check me in. I wouldn't really mind that if every thing else was good, but just not that professional. If I had to come to Santa Cruz again, I would not come to this motel, I would find another place even if it meant paying more.

This hotel (or motel, to be more accurate) doesn't quite look like motel 6 from the outside. But it is certainly run down, more so than even some motel 6 inns. I'm not even picky or critical when it comes to hotels, but basic necessities should at least be functional. The mini fridge was falling apart, couldn't even close properly because a piece of the fridge was falling off the inside of the door. The shower head was squirting water out the top, lightly spraying outside the shower curtain, onto the toilet, floor, etc. When I first turned it on, I thought the ceiling was leaking. I didn't have time to deal with this, so I just covered my belongings with a towel and took a very quick shower. The tv and remote were nonfunctional and confusing. The remote is so worn, you can't see the functions/symbols on the buttons. And if you can figure out how to work the tv, you don't know which channels work. Using "up and down" channel button, many channels just say no access, so it's very inconvenient and confusing if you're looking for something to watch (what kind of cable is this?!? Lol). The heater/AC is loud throughout the night. Temperature control is fine, but it makes a loud sound every 30 minutes or so, like a bang coming from a furnace and a whistling noise.. I can sleep through anything, but that woke up my boyfriend in the middle of the night. Those were the main issues I experienced during my one-night stay. Smaller issues include things like stains/burn marks on the mirror, smudged chocolate/dirt/ stains on the bed scarf, shoddy wifi, and the ice machine was out of order. I don't mind this too much because I just used a different side of the mirror, threw the bed scarf on the floor, and used my cell phone's network for service.. and if you use the fridge, you don't really need ice. If you don't mind the major flaws I mentioned, you can appreciate some pros about this place. The staff was friendly. There's a view if you are upstairs and request an "ocean view" (that includes a view of the parking lot too, lol... see my photo). They have free parking included. They are a 4-5 minute walk to the beach, and 8-10 minute walk to the boardwalk. There's a cute coffee shop right next door, and a taco bar across the street. And at least they have a fridge and microwave (if you're lucky, they're functional). Apparently, they also offer "continental breakfast" if you care for that kind of thing (but not during the pandemic).

This place was great for the price & you can't beat the view! We were there to celebrate my birthday and asked the lady at the front desk if we could get an ocean view room & she was happy to accommodate us. If you don't care about all of the frills and things, it's a great place. We had super cool neighbors on the second floor. There are definitely some sketchy people around there, at night, but you can find sketchy people anywhere. You can walk right down to the wharf & Boardwalk. It's a perfect location and great pricing for what you get.

This hotel is good for the price and where it is. U can walk everywhere u need to go. The rooms are ok but hey who's staying in them all day lol.

You can definitely tell why this place is the cheapest. It is a great location, just a short walk to the corner and you're at the boardwalk so that the the ultimate plus!!! As far as the room goes, it's so rundown and aged. Seems they could do an upgrade for sure.

Pretty good for what it is, an inexpensive motel by the bay. The folks are always real nice.

The location of this hotel was ideal and the staff were extremely friendly but the room itself was a disappointment. It was dirty, repairs needed to be made almost everywhere, and the towels and shower were not clean at all. There were black strands of long hair so that grossed me out. I enjoyed the free parking because I was so close to the boardwalk, the wharf, and a quick walk to the downtown area. However, the ice machine was out of order and the room itself was not up to par, and likely not up to the housing code. The photos do not do it justice because it really needed repairs. Kind of a dingy spot.

Splattered door. Who cleaned this place?
    Tod S.

This place is overpriced for what you get. Manager was nice but unkempt. Room smelled. There were splashes of some liquid all over the door and wall. Shower handle completely fell off. The room was dlm with poor lighting. Chair was dirty and stained. There was no view whatsoever. Survivable for one night but likely better off staying further out of city. Location to pier was great. Neighborhood a bit sketchy.

Sink stopper covered in black mold! So gross..

I highly recommend the second floor rooms. You can still see the view from the first, but they have plants growing up over the fence so it is harder to have the full view. They serve fresh cookies, breakfast in the morning, and always have tea, water, and coffee in the office. It's nice and cozy in there with a couple tables to enjoy your food or drink. There are also tables outside. Unfortunately they do not have a spa or pool. They do have some rooms with a spa tub. Our room was on the smaller size. There are no air conditioners in the room. In the closet was a fan and a space heater. We had our window open at night for the fresh ocean breeze and that kept Us cool enough for an August evening. We had a mini fridge, microwave, and safe in another closet. No coffee maker or complimentary water in the room. That is all located in the office. The bathroom was a great size for two of us. It was stocked with shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, and soap. I don't recall seeing a blow dryer. The bed was ok. Not uncomfortable, but not comfortable. Location is great. The pier and boardwalk are all walking distance. Lots of restaurants and shops. The hotel is on a cliff so there is not direct access to the beach. You do need to walk a little bit down the street to gain access, but it is a very short walk. I highly recommend staying here. I can not wait to go back.

They advertised with the promise of a "view of the ocean from every room" this is probably true for every room but ours. We stayed in the cottage studio for a weekend which was fine but also not cheap - however needed with our kids and wanted the large patio/balcony. We booked directly on their site and saw the photos and they did not include the reality. Instead of an ocean view we had large plants blocking every part of the view except for the far edges. We were the only balcony with this. It was frustrating as there was no hanging out with a nice view while there. There is also no beach access and the walk up and down the hill to the pier access is steep and tedious. Just fyi. So if you just want to chill and don't care about seeing the ocean stay in the cottage studio, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. We were disappointed.

He told us that if they were locked on our car, they would not be stolen and it was a safe garage. That was so helpful! Since we had struck up conversation, we asked him where to have dinner. He had several recommendations, and we asked about a local place nearby, which said was one of his favorites. After we had taken our bikes and gone for a long long bike ride, we returned and saw the valet outside the hotel. He questioned us on our ride and wondered how our afternoon had been. Super thoughtful person. Our room was clean and large and very much in line with an expectation from a Hyatt place. Considering this Hyatt place isn't very old, some of the furnishings and fixtures were quite worn. Also, considering that this was a Sunday, the hotel was full. I imagine that this is an often used hotel and many families stay here. The breakfast was as expected, but there was only one hostess, and she really could not keep up the amount of people eating the food. Often, the food was low and the coffee was out three times while we were eating breakfast. When informed, she did replace and replenish things. She was very overworked, and they really needed two people doing this job. I would recommend staying at this Hyatt place.
