Overall it was fine. We were just passing through and needed a place to sleep for the night. We stayed the king sweet with the jet tub and it was a nice room for the most part. Bed was comfortable. Place place was clean. Check-in staff was super friendly! The biggest issue I had was the light right outside my window we extremely bright and it looked like it was daylight ALLLLL night long. We only stayed for one night, we were up visiting family 25 minutes away and there's not too many hotels to choose from. This is our first time staying here . I was little worried at first bc I'm a sucker for reviews and some of the reviews on here weren't the greatest but I heard that they did some renovating. I booked through a third party but had some questions so I called the hotel a few times before arriving and each time I called (different days) I spoke to a Hunter. He was so very kind and very helpful! Football playoffs is going on so my husband wanted to make sure they had smart TVs to sign onto prime in the room and he actually took the time and went to check for me. The pool area is very nice! We came the weekend after they just finished remodeling the pool area and it was very nice! The pool was refreshing because it is pretty warm in that room anyways with the hot tub and all. The hot tub lit up and my kids just really enjoyed the whole pool area. This is one of the reasons we stayed at this location bc there is a pool. The rooms were clean and the shower looked new (the shower insert). Glad to see bc having a clean looking bathroom is a must for me. The fridge in the room had a separate freezer too! Nice for when traveling and you have ice packs to freeze again. Breakfast was okay...it filled us up but it wasn't like a full breakfast with eggs/sausage/biscuits etc... just waffles, oatmeal, cereal, yogurt, muffins, more like easy simple breakfast. Good enough. We had a balcony, unfortunately it's winter and there was a ton of snow outside but I had to check it out. I went outside on the balcony for a few, it was pretty cool to see all the ice fishers out there. The only downfall was the door. Seemed hard to open and looked older but not too big of an issue, maybe a future thing to replace. With this being said, we would stay here again. Oh and the lady who worked on 1/11 into 1/12 (the midnight shift) was very, very nice! I wish I would've gotten her name. I know she used to live in California after talking to her. The hotel offers beachfront access for all of the out-of-town guests along with a volleyball court, fire pit, in-door pool, complimentary breakfast, and free-parking. The front desk agents were very professional and accommodating with my requests. I enjoyed my stay and would recommend staying here if you're in the area. The only reason this is getting 2 stars is because the staff was friendly. In town for a friends wedding. Not a lot of hotels to choose from. Certainly not ones with the best reviews. The bed was horrible! Like sleeping (or trying to) on plywood. Gave up at 4am and sat upright in the also very uncomfortable chair to try and sleep the rest of the night to no avail. Here for two nights. Drove 3 hours home late after the wedding. But still got charged for the second night because we technically left after midnight (Checked out at 12:30am). Ridiculous. Shower stall is the size of a shoebox. So tiny. And it wasn't very clean. Mold in every corner. Jacuzzi tub would have been nice but the jets had some nasty looking corroded gunk in them. Didn't dare use it. And the drain was just as bad. The room had a funny smell, and the carpet was very dirty and sticky in a lot of areas. We did not take our socks off! Terrible, overpriced. Openly mocked by the front desk clerk after telling her my mom was a repeat customer. Go to the pool and the pool has chipped pair in the pool and hot tub, only two jets in the hot tub work. Really kind of disgusting in appearance. Then a family comes in with 20 little kids screaming. The parents seem to not care or watch the kids running and screaming. Then they get into the gross hot tub with me and continue to bump into me repeatedly and I get sneezed on twice lol!!! I will give you yes I am a grump but damn. Talked to the front desk in regards to the child party at the pool and how long it wouldnt be accessible unless you wanted to watch other people's kids scream and bump into you. She just smirked and said "I don't hear anything" Don't stay here way over priced and they don't give a shit about you. Don't get the hot tub suites, they are facing the road and have no balcony, and more like a bathtub, with a hole in the wall. We stayed in October so the lake was not a factor, location was good but for off season there are better rates at other hotels. The so called breakfast was a joke 6:30 to 9:30, went to get a coffee at 9:35 they had pulled the plug. Breakfast was the Covid style grab and go no hot food. We were on our way home after 4 days at the Soo staying at the Best Western, which was fantastic I believe they could take some lessons from them here. We will not stay here again. read more

Hoping to prevent someone else having the same experience - I can't recommend staying here. We drove into town and stayed here on a Friday evening for a funeral the next morning. We booked our room online which was surprisingly easy. However, we were unpleasantly surprised when we arrived to our room to find a loud party of adults, drunk, carrying on right outside our room (we had a beachfront walkout). They had also propped open the hallway door on our floor which not only was unsafe, but let a ton of mosquitoes in, as well as the smell from the dumpsters outside. My husband let someone at the front desk know, and nothing was done. The party carried on until at least 1am, which did not allow us or our baby to get much sleep despite trying to drown out the sound with the room fan. We woke up early next morning to get ready for the funeral service, to a broken screen door that literally fell off when we tried opening it, and trash from the party the night before. I wrote the hotel shortly after our stay to express my disappointment and give them a chance to make it right, but never heard back. Please do yourself a favor and find another place to stay! read more

Hotel is not being kept up to standards. Mattresses and sheets are old. Bugs are covering the balcony, so if you are O positive you will be a mosquito happy meal. If you look on the ceiling and walls, you will find killed bugs all over. The lake is covered by homes and hotels left and right so the view is not the greatest. Positive side is their coffee is great, I was surprised to enjoy a great cup of coffee in the morning. I didn't get a chance to try out local restaurants, I seen on YELP there was 2-3 that might have been worth the trip. read more

We loved this place, the 1st floor walkout to the beach was great. Had a fire pit at night. The only down side was there were bugs, a spider and a Centipede in the room. I am sure it is from the sliding glass door being so close to the lake. Other people probably leave it open a lot. Also they have no breakfast during Covid. But that is understandable. The hotel is clean but needed a few repairs. The showers are incredibly small walk-ins when you get a room with a jetted tub. The majority of the staff was incredible. However, one person on day shift at the front desk had a very poor disposition and seemed bothered by questions. The pool area was clean and well kept up. The pool temperature (it's a heated pool) was freezing the first day of our visit. This was remedied by day two. The location has minimal attractions nearby - great area for fishing and several golf courses in the area. Overall we were satisfied with our stay as a quiet couples getaway. read more

Free breakfast had a great variety of items. Hotel was warm and cozy. Decor had that 'lodge' feel. Staff was friendly. Rooms were clean but the bed was way too bouncy and the pillows were aged. I am a generally positive person but I would not advise anyone to stay here for any length of time. In the course of a week my trash was taken out once and only after I brought it to the attention of the front desk. No one exchanged my towels nor tended to the bed despite the "Maid Service Please" sign I put on the door one day. I was gone from 7 am until 6 pm so there is no reason my room wasn't cleaned other than hotel incompetence or poor management. Later that evening I had to kill a huge spider crawling on my sheets. Ugh!! Also, the walls and floors must be really thin. I could hear young kids running around and could not block out their stomping or screaming. I would not recommend staying here. The balcony was covered with bugs. And there were gnats actively flying in the room. Fine. It's one night. We went down to the beach and there was a huge group of people staying here who all knew each other and were all beyond drunk all day. They let small (year and a half) children run into the lake unattended. One small child came to our site to take my kids toys. He hung out for 30 minutes before the parents realized he was missing (I didn't know who his parents were so I just kept a look out‍). These guests also started playing crappy music on the beach just below the balconies at about 6pm and it got worse a d louder from there. So these are seemingly things the hotel staff can't control. Well when I complained about the noise, as it sounded like it was in our room, and I have a toddler who needed to sleep, the staff was less than helpful. They said they're aware of this group, that they aren't supposed to be blaring music this late but that there wasn't much they could do- these people come every year supposedly. She just told me I could call the cops. We called, and other guests called as well. We could hear other people in the hotel yelling down and begging them to turn down the music. The cops showed up and they stopped for about an hour. At 1am they set up again and began literally screaming the music at the top of their lungs while blaring it. They were actively fighting with other hotel guests from their balconies who were begging them to stop and they just laughed and screamed louder. Again, the staff says there's nothing they can do. I told them well if they are in violation of the hotel rules you could ask them to leave! Say stop playing the music, or you have to leave ‍ it's that simple. So they finally stopped their music at 3am (after the cops showed up again) and me, my bf and my toddler finally got some sleep. If you happen to be one of the alcoholics who was at this hotel blaring music, and screaming at people with children, I pity you. This must be all you have. I bet you'll have a blast telling your coworkers how you stuck it to the man and kept playing music super late while you wait for the next episode of the bachelor living paycheck to paycheck. Good family value. We got 2 Queen beds for 2 adults and 2 kids. Very nice, no complaints. The common areas were nice and clean, not high end and not trashy either. The included complimentary breakfast could have been better and healthier. It was definitely an afterthought. Housekeeping was a bit lacking too - sheets were not dusted, and new cups were not provided. We used this as a base to visit Traverse City and Sleeping Bear. Yes, it is a 1.5-2 hour trek....but for 1/3 the price...it was worthwhile for us. read more

First, the staff here was very helpful and went the extra mile. They are to be commended for their customer service! If you are looking for a place to party, this seems to be the place. Stayed here on a Saturday night--not during tourist season. There were two large groups who had taken over the place--both groups "partying" as part of their events. It was loud and did not quiet down until 12:15 am. We had difficulty finding a place to park, and ended up parked in an area that was not really a space. When we checked in, there was a young man in the corridor who was falling down drunk in the late afternoon--was a sign! There is damage to the place not caused by wear and tear, but the inebriated guests--broken light fixtures, cracked tiles, etc. (We were told this by the staff) The room was adequate, but in need of updating of the furnishings. They had new HD tvs, but their service did not include HD feeds---a big issue for my husband. The whirlpool tub set up is right out of the 80's--with this strange opening to the sleeping area. As a plus, they did have a separate shower! The waterfront is nice, but hard to access unless you have a first floor waterfront room. There is a sandy beach, but there were lots of weeds and scum washed up on the edge--but maybe they clean it up in swimming season. Someone had collected all the beer cans from the night before--a small plus. After the party's broke up, there were finally spaces in the lot--but it was annoying to go out in the middle of the night to move to a parking space, hoping that those leaving did not hit your car! In talking with the staff, it seems these groups are how they make money--so they put up with the noise and damage. They kind of shrug it off as "normal". In the morning, people were loading piles of pillows, sleeping bags, and comforters into their cars--indicating that there were lots of floor sleepers beyond the capacity of the rooms. We won't be back--not at all a value for what we paid. But if you are looking for a place to party with the owners blessings while the staff tolerates mayhem , this seems to be the place. read more

Came here in February for a ski getaway and stayed a couple of nights. Great value with an awesome view of the lake and the king jacuzzi suite was fantastic. I personally liked this hotel a lot. It's clean and I thought the beds were really comfortable. I felt like the hotel was well loved by its owners. It has beautiful views as well. I thought the staff was really friendly. You have to remember it's on a lake with balconies so there may be a spider that gets in your if you open the door. This doesn't bother me at all...it can happen but I thought it was clean. They do have a noise policy and I felt the people there were respectful. The manager will take care of it if you ask. The only thing I'd ask is that they think about investing in outlets for cell phone chargers. Other then that the indoor pool is great and I liked the sauna. It was a very nice stay. read more

We stopped here on our way up to the UP, because we had a Groupon. There was a little mix-up with our reservation, and the front desk attendant went out of her way to make it right for us. Great customer service goes along way with me, so I was very pleased! Our room was very clean, comfortable, and even had a Jacuzzi tub! We spend most of the evening swimming in the pool and hot-tub, with our 3-year-old daughter. The hotel is in a great location, and if the weather had been better, we may have used the private beach too - maybe next time :-) It was a great stay, and we would definitely stop here again. read more

Pure Michigan, Purely Wonderful Hotel in Houghton Lake What a divine value. Fantastic staff, clean and updated rooms and right on the beach. Rooms have either lake view or have a jacuzzi; you choose which works for you. We had a four family reunion with 6 kids under 15 and 6 adults. Everyone loved it. Our room was completely updated with new comfy beds, new carpet and decor, and new bathroom. It made for a very nice stay The beach and pool are nice as well. The staff was very helpful and kind. The room itself was somewhat clean the only reason i say that is because first of all two of the drawers had one dead bug each. We stayed 2 nights and on the morning of the last night i noticed i had bites which turned out to be BED BUG BITES!! Later confirmed by a doctor.
