Pros- there was plenty of space for our group of 20+ people to spread out on the property.  We had plenty of room for parking and were only a mile from a grocery store when we needed supplies. There were plenty of bath towels for our use and the AC on the second floor worked well.  There were board games, books and yard games for our group to use. Cons- the property felt rundown and neglected.  The lawn was too high when we arrived and was never mowed during the week we were there. Since we planned to spend a lot of time outside this was disappointing.  The deck on the Lake House is in need of serious repair.  There were pots full of dirt and weeds scattered around and the landscaping was so overgrown we could barely see the lake when sitting on the furniture.  There are some very soft spots in the decking that I was worried someone might actually go through.  The kitchen has an apartment size stove/oven which we were not expecting. The oven wouldn't even fit a standard baking sheet. Our kitchen seemed to be missing a lot of items: can opener, spatulas, a large bowl for mixing, sauce pans, etc.  We also didn't have a single clothes hanger in any of our closets or any floor fans, even though we were told there was at least one for us to use. We were told things get moved around from house to house when groups stay there, which is understandable. I think they need a list of basic items that should be in the house when the cleaning is done so it's ready for the next guests though. Luckily we knew the people in the other rentals and could borrow things from them. The AC on the main floor did not work well. The showers/bathtubs need to be updated.  The grout was stained/dirty and the shower head on the main floor bath was the smallest one I've ever seen.  The living room was a good size but so full of furniture it was hard to move around.  There are also electrical cords running along the walls on both sides of the TV.  You can tell they had to run those for the TV hook ups which is fine, but could be a problem if you have little kids in your group.  None of the outdoor spaces on the property were very well kept up or inviting places to hang out. Overall I feel like it was a good home base if you are going to spend the majority of your time offsite. This property has tremendous potential and would make an awesome small event venue if repairs were made and the grounds were properly cared for. If I was looking for a property for a group of 20-25 people I would stay here again because it is hard to find a place to accommodate that many people. But if I were looking for a place for just my family I would stay elsewhere.

For starters Ernie and Vivian were incredible host, honestly made us feel right at home the second we walked in. The Inn itself, is the perfect combination of old and new, well preserved antiques with modern amenities. We stayed in the spinning wheel room and it was very nice. Of course seeing threw the tub, into the bathroom, from the bedroom, wasn't a typical accommodation we understood that it was a temporary fix. They are planning on remolding the bathroom throughout the house soon. On the other hand, the bed was pretty rough. I hate to mention anything negative about this place but I had to at least prepare you for your sleep. Saying it's hard, would be an understatement. If they were to update the mattresses around the time they are planning on the bathrooms this would be in my top 3 B&B's we have stayed at. It's still in my top 5, but the bed is holding it back. However once you wake up crack your back and stretch out a bit you quickly forget there could've been anything wrong. The breakfast was a decadent feast with homemade jam, whipped cream, and even maple syrup. Then to burn it all off, there beautiful home is located on 127 acres of even more beautiful woods equipped with trails for easier walking. On arrival, the manager (owner?) checked me in - not friendly, and told me that the dog couldn't go behind the motel. Um, what? That's the whole reason I booked this place - spend some time outside with the dog near a lake; do some swimming. And while I was able to do that, I was banished from hanging out with any of the other guests (pavilion and bonfire area "off limits" to us.) The room was very stinky - mold/mildew and old cigarette smoke smell (I have a very strong sense of smell, so if you don't maybe it would be okay for you.) The shower is barely big enough for me, and I weigh 140lbs at 5'7". The A/C didn't work, so it kept running all night and day no matter how high I set the temp. Fridge also did not keep things cold and ran all the time... so let's just say I didn't get much sleep. The hard bed and super flat pillows didn't help either. Finally, on check out, the owner yelled at me for two reasons. First, because I told him an email from the hotel said that they charged me a deposit and would give it back when they checked the room on check-out. He told me the email did not say that. Well, I went and checked when I got home - it sure does say that. Second, he told me that I broke his stupid rules by going under the pavilion. I told him we went there because it was raining. He told me it was not raining. And while I will agree that I did go under the pavilion and broke his rules - I was perfectly happy to the side of the pavilion because it was away from the ashtrays (ick.) Just was trying to get out of the rain. Additionally, we were completely alone at the motel - so it's not like I was scaring anyone away with my very vicious 40-lb goldendoodle. Yeah, makes a lot of sense to yell at someone over something so trivial and harmless. This guy is simply not friendly and I would never return. The lake view and small beach were nice... but there are other places where customer service and kindness are present.

Calling ahead for reservations, I was able to get the last room available, right next to the front office. Room 103, a double double. While I certainly didn't require two double beds, they could accommodate me and three of my closest friends. The room was pleasant enough and will remain on my list of lodging for future reference.

From the second you walk into their lobby, throughout the hallways, seeping into the rooms, and even penetrating the waterpark areas, all you can smell is that legalized recreational product (I'm sure you can guess what I'm talking about). It's disgusting, lingering scent persisting everywhere. It clings onto your clothing, suitcase, EVERYTHING. And if you get a room that was previously occupied by guests who partake in that, it reeks of it for your whole stay! Adding to this, you can continuously find bandaids, hair and hair extensions floating in the water and lying around on the ground. Many children/teens are running wild (being very disrespectful) with no adult in sight. This place has lost its charm for us and it truly is sad. This was a vacation we looked forward to annually with our children and have created so many beautiful memories but sadly, it no longer does and then to add the price continuously increasing (which we knew would happen). If the smell of recreational products, filthy areas, and disrespectful guests is your vibe, then this is the place for you. If you just need a place to sleep this'll do just fine. PS - The mural of leprechauns in the lobby/breakfast room is a little bit creepy. If we had known we would have moved rooms or found a different hotel. Be careful if you stay here because chances are you'll be eaten alive by bed bugs!! -UPDATE- After contacting the manager about the situation, I'm even more frustrated with this place. They said because they did not see any bed bugs in the room, that they must not have them. They refuse to refund the room! They refuse to take any responsibility. Shameful. Really upset about this and will continue to update as this unfolds because I'm not letting this go when this 2 night visit has not only traumatized me but caused me enormous financial burden between treating my home, new luggage, a doctors visit, and more!! I slept as well as I can in a different place than normal. Overall for a 3 star hotel this is a 5 star review. Would I return? The mattress was cheap and uncomfortable, but the worst part was getting bit by a bug in the middle of the night. I don't know if it was a "bedbug," but it was a bug in the bed, with pincers, and it hurt enough to wake me up. I slapped it dead and found it the next morning, along with a dead spider that apparently I had also killed during the night. The motel is for sale, so maybe the owners have just given up.
