Several of the opinions about Beacon on here are outdated or eye rollingly overdramatic. But it's good to see several people came back and updated their reviews...the school is small but growing, so it's not going to be "perfect". So try to be objective. Beacon College is specifically for students who learn differently. Students with ADD, ADHD, or a learning disability. The staff is dedicated and friendly, and the school is the top of its kind in the nation, winning several academic awards. An update review on this college. A year ago, my views were much more aggressive, and I hope this review will be a bit more matured. While some things still feel the same, my thoughts have improved. The school is good I would say slightly above average. I like that there are a bunch of activities, some school bound, and some outside of campus. The discounts for events are a big draw, as they are often half priced. 9/10 The transportation I would say is a solid 7/10. it gets the job done, and is not required, unless living in the 'commons'. this portion of the living facilities needs some work when it comes to the bus system. the commons is unfortunately too far from the classes, and unless students like to walk maybe a good mile to class, the bus or a car is needed. missing a bus in the commons can ultimately affect a on time class trip making the student either late or not wanting to go to that class. the other living facilities are fine, as they are all in walking distance if missing the bus. the stops are brief, and sometimes its nice to just sit and rest in the shuttle. The classes are, for me, the biggest disappointment. The classes are the biggest challenge, not because of the work, but the way the student/teacher interactions are. Teachers are nice and personable; easy to get along with, however student disruptions can halt a class. I understand learning differences can change how classes operate, but there is a fine line between disability and obnoxious interruptions. Classes get a 4/10. Food quality is actually pretty good. Food is tasty, delightful and quick. The cheeseburger is the easiest item, but there are other items from wings, to nachos, pizza, fresh fruits and veggis. The menu changes each day. The dining room is a tad too tiny and sometimes can get loud- bring headphones if you want inner quiet. However, there is some nice outdoor seating. Overall, food gets a 7/10. not to mention is a buffet, so have at it. Student life and dorms are another category. Some can be great people to hang with for a few hours. In my experience, it was extremely hard to make lasting relationships here. There was a ton of drama that i did not want to engage with. Expect easy but flexibility friendships and you will not be disappointed. Dorm life can be comfortable, with full size kitchen and washer/dryers. Rooming with others can be challenging when there is different personalities/habits-. The actual dorm works-with nice, open living spaces and comfy beds. 6/10 There are some other things I can mention, but I do not want to write a book. Overall, its a decent little campus with a quaint town feel, good selection of activities, staff/teachers are engaging, small classes 7-10 student/teacher ratio. Beacon College is a great school. It has a safe environment for students and faculty. My son loved this school. Only problem is the cost. Beacon College is listed as a non-profit organization. They charge more tuition than for profit schools... Plus covid-19 ended my son's in person college experience two months into the semester. He didn't receive the full benefit of the services he was charged for. Beacon College rejected our claim for a modified bill and they claim my son has over $6,600. balance. This nonprofit business committed theft of tuition. I will seek an attorney and alert the authorities. I will contact the BBB ad well. read more

My son just finished his first semester here. He had a great experience. His dorm is new, and he likes his suitemates. Everyone in his suite had their own bedroom which is fabulous. He did well in his classes and is looking forward to this semester. Most freshman only take 12 or 13 credits to get acclimated. He found them to be relatively easy. The second semester seems to be more rigorous. Highly recommended for kids with learning differences. read more

This was the worst experience of my life. I will Never be coming back this place shouldn't even exist. This place gave me long lasting trauma. The counseling was one of the only good parts. wish there was a zero star option like fr. The Starbucks cafe was good though too. wish the school could be good however its not. read more

I attended Beacon from 89-92. I can tell you it was the worst experience of my life. The student body came from rich families, who didn't care about their education. But rather then party. I had to start my education over again after beacon college. Don't wast your parent money on this college, not worth it. read more

Update nearing the end of the fall semester: The housing situation is still not great. Very outdated and unreliable WiFi. Kid is in a tiny bedroom with a roommate; thankfully roommate isn't there much. No RA or anyone on-site to help with facilities issues. My son had to reset the breaker himself when half of the power went out in his apt. He had no clue how and thank God his dad walked him through it. The only reason I am letting my son continue is that for his major and LD, there is literally nowhere else for him. He in his third year and working really hard, joining things and likes his major coursework. As he gets done with required courses and electives I expect that he will be very engaged. It's academically a good school and the professors are very good (the coursework is *very* rigorous). It's just can be a long and expensive adjustment period (like several semesters) for LD students. Parents need to stay very vigilant and involved. Dean of Students and staff have been the opposite of helpful. read more

Took my son for a visit after his 18th birthday last spring. I had been following the school online for many years after learning about it from another mom in DC. Terrific small town campus, library at the center, very accessible - not too intimidating. On campus housing and support services very impressive. Great visit. He's now hooked too! read more
