Alas, I was hoping to find quality espresso near this area but it just doesn't exist. This place is a cute store which does sell espresso but it isn't great. The coffee was flat and the milk was overly textured and too hot. It was more of a cappuccino but unfortunately, not the latte I was hoping for. They sell small snacks but again, didn't look fresh. I would say this is an average beach coffee shop and if you are not looking for high end espresso, it is ok but I wish for better. read more

Stumbled upon this little place while driving around our toddler during nap time. My husband ran in and got us ice cream. He got the cold brew float, and I got just basic chocolate ice cream in a waffle cone. The prices were reasonable, and it was yummy! Fun, quick treat for a hot afternoon. read more

Stopped by Beads & Grinds after realizing the place across the street didn't have much of a coffee choice. We met Marina, the owner, who greeted us warmly and answered all our questions. I usually get a mocha latte, but they had some tasty-looking specials that I had to give a try. I went with Cookie Monster, which has dark chocolate and cookie dough syrup, and it was really good! My friend got Skate Rat, which is made with chocolate, vanilla, caramel, and hazelnut; honestly loved his more but I'll get it next time. This coffee shop also doubles as a bead-making place where you can come with friends and make jewelry while sipping on some yummy coffee. Give them a try! read more

I liked the overall vibe of this place and the bead shop was cool, but I ordered a really simple drink and there was so much built-up espresso grounds at the bottom of the cup. I'd already been to another coffee shop that morning and experienced the same problem, which is quite frustrating. I work at a coffee shop myself, and I am aware of how easy it is to get grounds in a drink but also of how to prevent it and deal with it when it happens. I really empathize with baristas and I know how easy this mistake is to make, but if you look at the picture, it's quite a lot. read more

During our vacation each summer we usually get coffee at the same place, but decided to try something new this year. The concept is super cute and the menu suggests a lot of different combinations and even has a lot of options with no caffeine. My sister liked her drink but my white mocha had a sort of sour taste to it and I ended up tossing it. Also I noticed that they weren't actually pulling new espresso shots for each drink. Instead they had a large jug labeled "espresso" that they poured into each drink. If shots sit for too long they can lose their flavor and become bitter, which I am assuming is what happened in my drink. This might not be a regular occurrence but I really suggest finding a coffee shop that is pulling shots for each drink as it is made. read more

I just tried Beans and Grinds this past August when my favorite vacation coffee spot was closed. I was delightfully surprised. The number of locals there told me all I needed to know that this was a quality place that people keep coming too. I tried several different lattes and made additional trips with family members. The coffee I had here was absolutely great. They had so many varieties, and my barista was super nice. She was accommodating with the sudden rush of people I came with, and she even offered any of their drinks without coffee if someone didn't like coffee. I first stopped in to Java Junction to try the coffee. It's hard to find good coffee in the area but Java Junction has some decent stuff. The girl at the counter held conversation which I find important when stopping into a local shop, it's more personable. The bead half of the store was mesmerizing. Beads of all different sizes, shapes & colors. We purchased a few and some natural string to make jewelry in the car on our long ride home. Great pricing & selection. I purchased a few hand dipped incense that smelled amazing. I can't wait to burn them! Last but not least I purchased a small copper(?) wire ring with a pearl. Cute, dainty & handmade! Goodness - I was approached with hostility (in my opinion) by youngish girl working there. Story is as follows: I stopped to get a cup of coffee and used the bathroom that said "Employees only". When I finished, this person met me outside the bathroom and said belligerently (in my view) something like: This bathroom is not for customers. I tried to apologize, but she continued harsh words (reiterating disbelief that I had used this bathroom). She spoke over me. With her antagonistic approach, I became defensive and told her she was rude. She continued her tirade until I left the store. Two pieces of this situation are unusual and disappointing: 1. I find it hard to believe that a business owner (or staff person?) would doggedly argue with with a customer over this; She could have taken the professional high road & reiterated that customers are not permitted to use this bathroom. I still wonder why she had so much anger over this, especially since no harm was done. With this as big an issue as she made it, perhaps this door should be locked (to avoid customers using this bathroom in the future)? 2. The eating places that I frequent in my hometown do have bathrooms for customers. I did not see a bathroom for customers, so I am not sure if they have one. I never ordered coffee & won't be back to try it. read more

This place is eclectic, and I love it. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. I love the premade bead bags that can make 2 bracelets or a necklace. Takes the thinking out of what beads to get. I still regret not picking up a few bags! I also got a specialty coffee - with mocha and toffee nut, as recommended and it was so good. My kids got the shark bait lemonade, which was delicious and my husband got a flavored tea, which he also enjoyed. I would definitely go back if we visited Buxton again. read more

We stayed in Avon for a week and with there being no Starbucks or Dunkin we decided to try new coffee shops everyday during our visit. This was the fourth place we visited and the only place we went to for the last three days. By far the best in the area we tried. Got the Cookie Monster day one and the bonfire the second and third time. Sooo goooood. The special coffee drinks they have all sounded so good it was hard to choose. Other got the skate rat and Samoa and loved both. Definitely worth a visit if you are staying in the area. read more

Talked my husband into a quick stop at the Glass Bead so I could add to my collection. The owner has pulled together a diverse assortment of great beads! I found some really beautiful, unique beads here, including some nice Australian turquoise. The gal working at the shop was very helpful - my husband found a pirate bead he wanted to give a friend, and with her help we pulled together a quick necklace. While I was there, I found out that the store is set up for beaders to come in, buy materials, and put jewelry together on site. Staff at the store are available to show those new to beading how to complete their art piece. What a great setup for those of us on vacation who have a hankering to do a little beading while we are in the OBX! I will definitely be visiting the Glass Bead on my next vacation here. read more
