Really great amount of food for an even better price! I spent $15 and was able to add 4 items to my order - and I was incredibly full after eating! The quality was decent too - nothing too over the top but still really satisfying and definitely worth the price: Horchata ($3) - I love that this came in a sealed container instead of a cup with a straw - It was really easy to save in the fridge for a day or so and then to drink and come back to at a later time. It was super cold in there today, there was a space heater type thing but it still was cold in there. I have been to Beantown Taqueria many times over the years. To me Beantown is a solid place for legit Mexican food. It is not a trendy place with fancy drinks or fusion food, but the food is authentic, both authentic Mexican and Tex-Mex. The portion are good, and the price has been affordable. I'm quite pleased with the food but the price is quite a bit higher than expected. I ordered a carnitas quesadilla , made it a combo, added small guac ($1.50) plus a horchata. Everything you see in the picture came to $20 and the portion isn't too big. The quesadillas come plain by default and that will already run you $10. Price aside, the food really is good. The carnitas seemed to be cooked traditionally in fat and was tender and tasty. The best part is probably that chipotle Mayo that the give on the side. This is the worst place I've ever been to in Massachusetts. Why isn't there any good Mexican Food in this State? How do they have more than 3 Stars? They charge way to much money for the food you get. They also try to charge you for extra stuff without telling you. It came out to $30 for a Burrito and 3 Tacos; with Beans and Rice on the side. . A lot of their items are overpriced, but they also have a lot of deals, at least on Uber Eats. Not entirely sure about dining in. Most recently, I got two burritos for $9.99. One was chorizo, one was carnitas. So I was able to get two different kinds of burritos, a Mexican Coke, chips and salsa for just over $15 subtotal. Not a bad deal. This place has a mixture of more authentic Mexican fare as well as Tex-Mex. I prefer the authentic tacos (called Beantown tacos) and the enchiladas. The burritos aren't as good. I'm also basically grading on a curve here because this is Boston Mexican food. As a native New Yawkah I hate saying it -- but Boston really is a friendly little town with lots to do and see. It does not rival NY -- it simply stands alone IMHO -- for what it is -- a deeply historical and traditional New England city that welcomes all manner of outliers as friends. Beantown Taqueria is an affordable mom and pop taco joint on Massachusetts Avenue -- smack dad in the heart of the urban MIT campus. It is as refreshing a change of pace -- as it is indicative of how urban can be gritty and friendly -- all at the same time. Nikkea is the hostess with the mostest -- and she served us as if we were family -- dining in her own kitchen. And the food did not disappoint -- even though it was Nikkea who provided most of the "soul" to this food -- which is pretty darn good Mexican home cooking. I've eaten better pasole (this version was a bit thin and lacking depth of flavor) -- but the taco's were served on freshly made corn tortillas -- crisped just right -- with an abundance of your choice of filling (I had lingua, shrimp and fish -- all excellent). Junior's burrito was massive and he polished it off with a smile. The french toast was less to our youngest's liking -- but he's a fussbudget -- I thought it was great. Also great was the coffee --- a rich brew that drank perfectly on an unusually cold and windy Veteran's day. We left for home after this meal and it was a pleasant finish to our several day tour of Boston area colleges. Worth a look if you are in the area which is packed with all sorts of eclectic fast food eateries -- as you might expect -- underscore ECLECTIC! I'm surprised that Beantown only has 3 stars! Maybe people just didn't know what to order? There are a lot of options, I'll give you that. But if you do it right, this Tex Mex joint can serve craveable, comforting deliciousness! The (chicken, steak, or shrimp) fajitas are fresh with crunchy peppers & onions and quite filling. Get the plate ($1.50 extra - totally worth it) which includes rice, chips, and your choice of beans (this is one of the only places in the area that offers refried!). You can also pick between flour or corn tortillas as well as the mild-medium-hot spiciness of your dish. So yea. Lots of options. But my chicken fajitas with refried beans and corn tortillas (3) were bomb. The guac and sour cream add a tangy coolness which balanced well with the other flavors (and all of the table hot sauce I doused on top). Boyfriend's go-to is the steak quesadilla, which is served with a chipotle aioli that he can't get enough of. It's an unconventional way to serve quesadillas, to be sure, but nonetheless delicious. I stopped into Beantown Taqueria for a quick lunch while visiting MIT with my family. They advertised a Mexican buffet on a chalk board outside the front that we wanted to take advantage of, as well as online Groupon deal. However, when I tried to talk with the lady behind the register, she did not speak ANY English whatsoever, aside from the words "yes" and "no". I asked the same question about the above-mentioned deal about 4 times, to which she replied yes twice and no twice, apparently just trying to get to an answer I would be happy with. I finally asked if she understood a word I was saying, to which she just shrugged. I think she expected me to point to the printed-out menu and grunt in order to make my order. The cook 10 feet behind her made no effort to intervene. I have no idea if he spoke no English or simply could not be bothered. To be clear have no problem with having English as a second language, but I would expect at least some effort to try and communicate in the prevailing language of the land. After a few minutes I simply gave up, as I could not ascertain whether the buffet deal was even going on and anticipated the frustration ahead when I tried to figure out the Groupon deal. I think my words above may not adequately communicate the situation and the frustration I felt. The bottom line is that though the place looked fairly clean and the food that was being prepared smelled good, I will never know how it tasted due to my ability to only speak English and a lack of any effort to try to get through that language barrier. This place is a regular spot for MIT students - it is extremely close to campus and is open until really late at night. There are special deals for students, tourists, law enforcement, and more. The $2 tacos on Tuesday bring in a long line of people at lunch. I would say 3-5 tacos are good for a meal. I usually get al pastor or carnitas, but the fish is also surprisingly good, though it costs more. The "authentic" menu and the "tex-mex" menu are both full of different items, so there's quite a variety to choose from. There's also a bit of a dessert menu too, but I would only really get the flan. There's no longer much seating room in the inside (only bar seating-like tables facing outside), but the murals and decorations are quite colorful and fun to look at. I gave this place 5 chances ... I swear to everyone here ... 5 chances after my first disappointment!!! Tonight I call my local taqueria and order food for my gf. I call and I can barely hear the guy because he chooses to stand next to the speaker blasting music away. Ok great! I get to the place to pick up. I ordered 3 tacos and a glass coke bottle. Charges me $27.89 ... for three tacos???? Yikes ok and I asked to make sure they were flour tortillas... he said no they were corn and got upset with the guy who took the order. They were going to redo it but I had no time so I just paid and left. I get home and open the food to serve it and I find an enchiladas plate. Freakin awesome! But not really ... I'll get right to the point - I adore this place!! Been ordering delicious food from here for 2 years now (I wish I'd discovered it sooner...) & every meal has been outstanding. The staff are so friendly & cheerful, their menu is expansive (but not too big, so you know they're putting love into every individual dish), & they are surprisingly fantastic with food allergies! Also, their hours are incredible, & extra helpful speaking as someone who works the night shift. I love being able to have a real meal on nights when I'm too exhausted to cook! This restaurant is one of the few places I can rely on for a fantastic meal 100% of the time. Their food is always hot, super flavorful, & the portions are perfect. I end up spending a lot on side sauces/condiments (I'm obsessed with sauce) but it's honestly so worth it that I don't mind. One of the best Mexican food places on the east coast, & I say that as a Cali native.. Wish I could give 10 stars. I never write reviews (seriously, check my history), but after yet another incredible Beantown experience, I just had to give kudos to this place.
