Very cool vibe, though it gets loud and crowded fast, so I would get a reservation if you have more than 2 for sure. I had the tuna tataki and the anticuchos (steak skewers) to eat. Both were delicious, the steak might be a must-get! Both dishes were spicier than normal Japanese, but I think well within the tolerance of most Americans. If you're particularly sensitive to spice, I would ask. I had the classic pisco sour and the Kajo Park, which was a Manhattan vibe. Both were well executed, the Kajo Park was a nice creative riff on a classic. Coje restaurants are always solid, and this is no exception! read more

We dined at RUKA when we first checked into our hotel in Boston. It was adjacent to our hotel so it was super convenient as we were tired and hungry after a long flight. This place is popping! Even though it was later in the evening, the restaurant was still really full. However we didn't have to wait too long to get seated. I loved the decor in here, such neat details and even a column with a dragon on it! So cool. It's a dark restaurant so it was hard to read the menu, but otherwise, it's a very cool vibe here and feels very lounge-y. Our server was awesome, he was friendly and explained the restaurant style to us - it's like tapas, you order a few items to share and recommended 2 - 3 items per person would be sufficient. It was only 2 of us and we shared 3 items total, and that was more than enough. We apparently arrived so late that our server informed us that we only had a short time before the kitchen was closing for the night. But he said that he would return before the kitchen closed in case we wanted to order additional menu items. We were intrigued by the Japanese/Peruvian fusion menu and tried a few things: Kuromitsu Brussel Sprouts Spicy Salmon Fritas Bo Bo Chicken I was most excited about the Bo Bo Chicken a it had a sichuan chili oil and I love spicy, but it was not spicy at all (to me). But the flavor was really good. My favorite was the Brussels sprouts. I loved the char on them and the ginger black honey on it was so good. I don't eat salmon, but my friend said the Salmon Fritas was great and really enjoyed them. I would say this was the best meal we had on our trip! read more

My favorites were the fried cheese stick as that was very light and fluffy. The yakisoba noodles was very delicious plus the pork belly buns! Had a reservation and was seated promptly. It was a bit busy but service was attentative. Server was knowledgeable about the menu and kind. My sister and I ended up getting a few dishes to share: Japanese fried chicken, halibut, crab yakimeshi, and lobster norteña. The kitchen was able to accomodate and put the sauce and avocado for the norteña on the side (my sister is picky) which I appreciated. The food came out pretty quick and was delicious. The halibut was not my favorite (I wouldn't order it again) though even that was yummy. The japanese fried chicken?! Amazing. I almost didn't order it but am glad we did. The meat itself is packed with flavor, but it's even better with the sauce it's served with (as most things are. The crab yakimeshi was our next favorite item. The rice was phenomenal. For dessert we got the cachangas which wonderully surpassed our expectations. It was a fun dish that reminded us a bit of pretzel bites (but way more airy and delicious). I thought the price we paid was fair for 3 dishes, dessert, and two drinks. Ambiance was nice. Good for a date, girl's night, special occassion, etc. Would definitely come back! Rolls: I was not a huge fan of the Ruka Spicy Tuna and the Vat Bottom Girl was decent, but the Pulpo Chancón in particular stood out, with delicious octopus and an incredible blend of flavor and texture. Everything was delicious, with just one exception--the yuzu beef. Nice spice, finger licking good. + spicy salmon fritas - spicy salmon, sushi rice crispy, sliced avocados, spicy no moto sauce, ginger teriyaki. I enjoyed this very much so as well. The crispy rice gels well with the spicy salmon on top. Two bites per piece and it just worked. Think nigiri but with crispy rice. + Macaw - mocktail was well balanced almost felt like it had alcohol but didn't. Not overly sweet and tasty! + Aji alegre- tequila, passionfruit, Aji Amarillo, bitter orange and lime. The lady liked the drink i thought it had nice hit of citrus, not overly sweet and wasn't overpowered by the alcohol. + Nikkei expresso - an expresso martini with Japanese whiskey, my buddy enjoyed the drink, balanced and smoky. This was our last dinner in Boston with my girlfriends. We love Peruvian food and were really surprised to find this restaurant. We made a reservation, which I'll definitely recommend, and everything was smooth as soon as we got there. The place was not super packed but it was busy. We had the Ruka Rainbow which each roll had a different option of fish (either tuna, salmon, or hamachi), it tasted really fresh. We also ordered the Camote Crunch Roll with fried sweet potatoes and avocado, also delicious! Then we ordered the Wagyu Steak Anticuchos, anticuchos in Perú is a very well-known street food dish (and no, it's not made out of Wagyu but this one was a more elevated take on it). Anticuchos were ok, the flavor was a little mild and the pieces were really small. We also got the Japanese Fried Chicken a the fried chicken was cooked to perfection. The blend between the miso mayo and the aji glaze was so good! For dessert, we ordered the Big Fish and it was alright. By the time we were in the middle of dinner, the place was already packed so we were so glad to have made a reservation. The ambience is perfect for talking, music is not so loud. Our server a short blonde woman with lots of lip filler accused me of having a fake id , I am a 22 year old woman. I was staying next door at the Godfrey hotel. My husband and I decided to try this restaurant because it's recommended on the hotels website. We sat down ordered and when I ordered a drink the server asked for my id . She stood there making funny faces at it then asked me what is a permit card. I said it's a driving permit. She acted like she didn't know what a permit is, I asked do you not get a permit before a license in Boston ? She still acted confused saying she never seen a permit before. she brought my id back to the manager and he came out to tell me they cannot serve me because they can't tell if my id is real or not. He claims they don't have a id scanner to verify so they were just assuming. Despite me being a grown woman I had to go back and forth with the server and the manager on why they think my Minnesota id is fake. Not a pleasant experience They had no problem with my husbands Minnesota id card but mine was fake according to them. I brought this up to the Godfrey staff and they agreed this was terrible treatment of guest of their hotel they said I should go back and talk to the manager let him know I was staying next door and they cannot profile me like that. I declined because I didn't want to give my money to them after that situation. The bars everywhere else served me no problem. So be aware if you have an out of state id and look young they can profile you all they want because they have no id scanner to verify ids they are just going off judgement . The restaurant looked nice it was dark and loud , packed. I didn't get to enjoy the food or service. We left after this incident because i felt disrespected being accused of a crime. read more

RUKA Restobar is an absolute gem in Downtown Boston! Literally one of the most gorgeous restaurants that we have in Boston AND their food is delicious! There have been many new, up and coming restaurants popping up every other week in Boston and yes the interiors are beautiful BUT the food is oftentimes so overpriced & inedible... RUKA Restobar isn't like that at all, the food was so tasty and service was phenomenal. We ordered a bunch of different dishes to try including: -nikkei espresso martini -aji alegre -macaw ____________________________ -lima styled fried calamari -spicy yuzu cucumbers -hamachi ceviche -spicy salmon fritas -phoenix sunrise maki -wagyu mofu maki -st. louis ribs -wagyu steak anticuchos ____________________________ We started off strong with the drinks! The drinks were very good; the nikkei espresso martini is probably one of the best I've had in Boston. The aji alegre was very enjoyable, though it was vodka based (I typically steer away from vodka) but it was yummy & paired well with our meal! The macaw is an alcohol-free mocktail and not gonna lie, I forgot it didn't have alcohol haha So, my least favorites of the dishes we ordered were the wagyu mofu maki & spicy cucumbers. Everything else was basically perfect. The wagyu mofu maki had a beautiful presentation and were able to watch it being torched + sauce added but wasn't too much of a fan of the texture. It was a pretty mushy roll, though it had pear in it to add a "crunch". This paired with the mushrooms on top, I saw the vision, however, I wouldn't order it again. The spicy cucumbers had great flavor. It wasn't one of my favorite dishes because it lacked the crunchy aspect that I was hoping for and it didn't taste very cold... the cucumbers were warm/room temp. _____________________________ What we did like: The calamari was SO GOOD! We always order calamari as an appetizer wherever we go and this was definitely in my top 5s. The hamachi ceviche, another 10/10. I love ceviches & tartares so this was right up my alley and I'm just glad that it was so good! Had great flavor & hamachi tasted fresh. The spicy salmon fritas is basically their take on spicy salmon with crispy rice. PHENOMENAL. I could eat this every day for every meal. The phoenix sunrise maki wasn't really a favorite but also wasn't bad either. I think that it was very "regular" & we had high expectations for their maki rolls since the hostesses told us that RUKA has the best sushi in the city haha. It was good, however, I wouldn't say the best as it was a pretty average, typical roll you could find at many places. Like, I'd still order their rolls again in the future though! The wagyu steak anticuchos & St. Louis ribs were the last two dishes that arrived to our table & didn't disappoint at all. The wagyu came on skewers, 2 skewers w/ 2 pieces on each skewer. I highly recommend eating the wagyu w/ the coleslaw it comes with, even if you don't like coleslaw! The slaw elevates the dish & just pairs perfectly with it. Amazing flavor on the St. Louis ribs! I will say, the meat was a bit on the drier side. Still, it was very delicious and I think if the ribs were made to be "fall off the bone" it would make the dish even better. We ended the meal off with sake. Not usually a sake drinker but it was a lovely way to finish dinner at RUKA Restobar. Our server was the best! He gave great recs for which dishes to go with & every dish he recommended was tasty. Initially we were also planning to order more food than we ended up getting but he suggested that it was already the perfect amount for the three of us, & he wasn't wrong! Our favorites and must try items however were definitely the sesame noodles and tako meshi. The noodles were so flavorful and the tako meshi was packed with delicious octopus. We also ordered the spicy tot stickers which had a good bit of spice to it surprisingly! The staff was really nice but sometimes the wait for things can take some time since this spot seems super busy/popular! They were also really accommodating for food allergies. I visited Boston in the fall for a conference and the food scene was amazing. This one was no different. I went to Ruka my last night to celebrate a friend's birthday. Their menu design is more tapas style so it is encouraged to share and order as a table. The server was nice and explained things well and the interior design was upscale. I order the tako meshi which contained seafood like octopus, shrimp and included a ricey grain, veggies, and crunchy sweet potatoes on top. There were flavors I hadn't had together before but they went so well. I shared a roll with one of my friends and it was so delicious and fresh.
