After reading copious reviews praising the dog-friendly nature of this dining establishment, we were stunned to arrive only to find that we were unable to eat outside with our dog. By their own choice, the restaurant will serve patrons drinks on their rooftop deck, but not food. We stayed for a drink, after advising them that our disappointment could have been prevented if their website (and other internet sites) had been clear about their policies. In the land of lobster rolls I found the best one in a fun location with a water view. This is such a cozy spot on the water. You walk in and are greeted immediately by staff. Grab a paper menu, find a table and when you're ready go up to the bar to order your food. The wait staff brings your food to your table when it's ready. I've had many lobster rolls and this was def one of the best I've had. First of all it was huge. The lobster was in chunks it was not chopped up. It was perfectly seasoned with some mayo but not overpowering so you can truly savor the fresh lobster. It came with a bag of chips. To be honest I didn't care for them as the roll was the main event here. Initially I thought I couldn't finish it because it was so big but I was in lobster roll heaven and didn't stop eating until every bit of this lobster roll was gone. No regrets. Definitely the BEST lobster roll in Lubec. I have tried many and there is no doubt. After we ate we sat on one of the cute couches in the restaurant to have one drink and chat. If you're staying in the area, eat here! We enjoyed the burgers quite a bit, the smoked fish appetizer, the ravioli and the haddock tacos were all delicious and reasonably priced. The ambiance here is very cozy. Laidback yet refined. They have a couch-y lounge area where you can enjoy a drink and a view of the water/bay while you wait for a table. You get menus at the table and then order at the bar when you're ready and your food is brought to you. They also have an upstairs terrace with a stunning view of Water Street, the inland part of Lubec and the bay. We stopped for drinks and went up there the second time we came to Cohills. We saw a bald eagle coming from the bay on its way to Canada. There is a war monument up the hill if you need to send any rambunctious kids you have in your party on an errand. We fell in love with Lubec and the area and look forward to coming back here to eat. Five stars. read more

Extremely poor customer appreciation! In August 2024, we experienced the worst behavior of this restaurant's owner/manager. He barked out directions to customers from behind the bar as you entered instead of extending a welcome greeting. On top of that, when a potential customer asked if she could take one of the paper menus (a one-page photocopy ) to show her family. He told her "No, take a picture". Wow-Seriously! So arrogant and unfriendly. No one should support an establishment that does not value and respect its customers. read more

We originally chose Cohills because we're vegan, and none of the other restaurants had vegan options, but we return to Cohills because we love it, and pretty much eat here exclusively. I came here for dinner after running the Bay of Fundy Marathon earlier in the day. Since I was dining alone, I found a seat at the bar next to a local that I had just met earlier in the day. They have a decent, but limited beer selection. Since it was an Irish pub, I started things off with a Guinness. My new local friend suggested the lamb burger or the shepherd's pie. I always trust a local, so I went with the lamb burger. It was a good suggestion! I finished things off with a Baxter Stowaway IPA. *Lamb burger* It definitely tasted better than it looked! If you like lamb meat and goat cheese, then you should order this burger. It had a good flavor and was a good change from the usual beef patty. The buns that they used were probably my least favorite part of the meal. It was a bit too soft for my taste. *Baxter Stowaway IPA* The tab handle had the Jolly Roger symbol on it. I guess that was good enough for me to get the beer! :) Nice citrus taste and not overly bitter... just my kind of IPA. Overall, this was a nice place to have a couple of drinks and hang out with your friends. The bartender was cool and the service was good. I'll definitely want to come back again and to try out their shepherd's pie. read more

There are only two places to stay in the TINY town of Lubec. This is one of them. Location is excellent and the views are everything they claim them to be on their website. The room we chose boasted a view of the lighthouse and harbor seal playing, both of which were true. It is not a chain hotel. It is owned by two lovely locals, both on premise and one we actually met. The owner Glenn was very nice and accomodating. They do not have their own parking area but there is a parking lot right there with easy walk to the inn. All rooms are either on second or third floor and there is not an elevator, but the stairs are not so bad. They do a self check-in, and text you the code to get into your room as well as the wifi password. The room was clean as can be, a good size and had everything one would need. King size bed was very comfortable with a nice quilt, soft sheets and plenty of pillows....mattress a little firmer than I would prefer, but we slept well. There is no air conditioning in the room, but with the window open and the ceiling fan on, you can enjoy the fresh sea air. There was a mini fridge and a pot that warms water with mugs and instant coffee, twa bags, sugar etc. The room had a flatscreen smart tv with local cable, but we had a hard time getting it to play the cable so streamed movies instead. The bathroom was very small and the shower stall was very tight, but the water pressure and temperature was great, plenty of soft towels, toiletries and a hairdryer. This is a no frills room but definitely ample, comfortable, clean and fairly priced. There is a pub on the first floor, that is closed on tuesdays and wednesdays (weird). The food was good. You order the food at the bar and it is later brought to your table. The menu is small and changes. Service was good, great views from the pub. We would stay here again. Campobello island right there. Now for Lubec......SMALL town with really not much to see or do. There are three restaurants and a brewery/pub, one gift shop, a coffee shop and a place to get takeout pizza....that's it. There is an IGA grocery store and a dollar store very close by to get essentials. There is a whale seeing boat to charter if interested and a 30min ferry service to take you to Eastport. MUCH more to see and do in Eastport (we drove, took about 40min to drive there). If you like to hike, bike and explore, there are MANY trails to access. We are from Maine so we k ew what to expect. Lubec is a small, quaint coastal Maine town. We liked Cohills Inn but one visit to Lubec is more than enough. read more

I would say the #1 thing this place has going for it is the location. The inn is very close to the ocean and it's really cool that you can see Canada. But, it is a bit run down and definitely not worth $120-$160 a night plus tax (depending on what room you choose) The website says that there is a flat screen TV and cable. We thought we would veg out and watch TV at night since we don't have it at home. There was no tv and we didn't bring cards or games so after walking through the town a few times we were extremely bored. It got cold early and after the sun went down we just messed with our phones and went to bed. When we pulled back the blankets there was a bunch of little black hairs (dog hair?) neither one of us has black hair... there was also a suspicious red spot. Looks like a drop of blood but it could easily be a small spill from eating on the bed. Not sure but we were not confident that the linens had been cleaned. There is no parking at the inn so we had to park pretty far down the street, which was annoying. I can't even imagine finding parking during a normal summer, pre COVID. There was a public lot as well that we found about after we parked. It was about half full of tourists and people fishing, boating, etc.. that might be good option for someone that doesn't want to walk far. The town of Lubec is very small but cute. Nothing was open because of COVID but we knew that going in and that's not the Inn's fault. Too be perfectly honest the novelty of saying we stayed at the furthest most eastern inn in the US is what I am taking from this experience but would I go back? No, problem not. If the owner of Cohill's just spent around $50 a room to install window fans, they'd have a four to five star lodging. The rooms are spacious, clean and have nice beds. If you manage to get a north facing room you're blessed with great views of the water. The problems are there's no cross-drafts or air conditioning in the rooms. And when the day is hot, baby, you better believe your room will be sweltering. A window fan would cure this. It would draw the water cooled air right in. How can anyone not like salt-water cooled air? Otherwise, it's fine. The rooms are inexpensive. You get free breakfast, which consists of a variety of cereal and hard-boiled eggs. Cohill's regular menu is mostly bar-fare. Such as burgers, pasta and so on. Which is a nice break from all the fried crap you find in and around Lubec. Another perk, the rooms are filled with electrical outlets. The minor things, besides the heat, would be loose shower heads, wrought iron bar bed frames and lousy tv's which don't carry cable or have an accompanying channel list card. read more

Stopped in for a drink during a quick trip to Lubec. This being the Easternmost Eagles bar, and us being Philly fans and frequent customers of the Southernmost Eagles bar, we HAD to visit. We didn't eat but the food looked great and we regretted eating just before we arrived. Chatted with the owners for a bit who were super nice and couldn't be more welcoming. My review is of Cohill's Pub - the restaurant at the Inn. Helen, the owner/manager, is often in the kitchen and out helping to serve - consistently with a smile and a friendly greeting. Though I am no local, I have summered in the Lubec, ME/Campobello Island, NB area for just over 30 years, so she has come to know me and my family when we stop in. This summer was no different. Glenn, also a staple at Cohill's, was as nice as could be and also insisted we eat wherever we wish (be it up on the deck out back or in the dining room). We have always been cordially greeted and encouraged to sit up on the deck out back (even though they traditionally serve their lunch in their main dining room overlooking the narrows). I ate there three times during my recent stay and am thrilled to report they have expanded their menu to include more fresh fish! There is nothing more that I could want than fresh fish in an area devoted to the surrounding waters. I had the tuna burger (really a large tuna steak grilled perfectly and lightly seasoned) twice and the haddock burger (which wins my "favorite" here) once in addition to their homemade tomato vegetable soup and cold smoked salmon appetizer. I have had their fish chowder in the past and loved it and most of my family loves to order their regular burger (though I like their lamb version as well) and swears it always hits the spot. I am glad to see Cohill's embracing more seafood in their menu as in years past this would have been my only gripe against the establishment. If you see their tuna or haddock options listed - be sure to order it. You won't be disappointed! read more

This restaurant has fair food but is overpriced. The owner is frequently a bit too friendly if he's had too many adult beverages. They charge extra if you want to share food with someone you are dining with. This would be my last choice for places to eat out. read more

We expected the long wait and the early closing. We didn't expect to get passed over in line and losing our table. We ended up sitting in the "lounge" which is just a couple over-stuffed chairs and a couch in a dimly lit corner of the dining room. It felt like the kids' table if the kids were victims of neglect. The smoked fish appetizer was odd. It came with too few crackers, just one fork (thought it was meant for two people), and no napkins (which we had to go fetch for ourselves). The burgers were pretty good, but again we had to ask for napkins, silverware and ketchup. No one came to refill water or ask if we needed another round of drinks. The people are nice and are trying their best. But they are understaffed and are struggling to keep up. There are few options in Lubec and this is probably the best of the offerings, so if you visit you'll probably end up here. My advice: have patience and be flexible. And for god's sake, avoid the "lounge"! read more

Bartender was accommodating and helpful- finding us a Maine Brown beer, and a choice of Maine craft beers, guided us to a new (to us) Irish whiskey, as well as quickly accomodating a couple at the bar who wanted a can of Coors light. We had our dog with us and they let us eat on the upstairs patio. Food (lamb burger, grilled chicken, salmon dinner, Angus burger) was good, service was friendly. Dessert (comparatively expensive for the menu) was also good. Flourless chocolate cake and cheesecake were excellent. We'll be back. read more

Second stay was less "nice", no fridge, no table, no seating. This was room 4. Overall, nice place, and best of all, dog friendly!!!! We ate at the Pub at Cohill's Inn during our stay in Lubec. Cohill's is located right on Water Street and from the window we watched the ferry leaving to Eastport, the boats leaving on whale watches, and even saw some seals out in the water. The pub had a great, lively atmosphere. If my husband had been boring, I am sure I could have been easily entertained by the people sitting around us. Our server was helpful and gave us some great recommendations for nearby kayaking spots. I'd love to say we took his recommendations, but after all the car sickness on the ride up, I decided ocean kayaking during and immediately post tropical storm Irene probably wasn't in the cards for us. The menu was written out on a chalkboard and had a fair selection (elevated pub fare and then some), and the beer selection was even better. We split the Mediterranean plate (hummus, olives, pita, feta, tabbouleh) and each ordered an Angus Burger. The burger was super juicy and came with potato chips on the side. It was exactly what we were looking for. And my husband was apparently exactly what one of the patrons was looking for, because he got a nice bum squeeze on the way out. Stayed 2 nights for my honeymoon. Waiting for us was a very warm greeting, a bottle of champagne on ice & two glasses. The October view across the water was absolutely incredible and easily viewed through the huge windows in our room, as well as from the dining room. Our room was very nice, very clean, and although it seems a no-brainer - everything functioned as it should have. The pub has some mouth-wateringly delicious local seafood (the locally smoked mussels were to die for!) and their beer selection is pretty fabulous for such a remote location. The night we arrived they had Peak Organic's IPA, Shipyard's Pumpkinhead, Guinness, Harp, & Smithwicks on tap, as well as a decent bottle selection. CoHill Inn unfairly refused a correction. I had booked an extra day accidentally. When I addressed the matter with the owner, he acknowledged the issue with denial of the event occurring. However, I left the key at front desk per routine check-out noting my absence. He indicated he "didn't know" I left which is not true. The town was most likely booked given the 4th of July celebration (i.e., festival/fireworks occurred on the weekend) and the room could possibly be rented to another tenant. I asked for credit with him indicating a 2 week cancellation policy. Their cancellation policy is "This charge will be waived if the room(s) is subsequently rented." read more

I've been visiting there about once a year since they opened and this last week was my first opportunity to spend a night at the inn. The room was beautiful, fantastic view and a very comfortable bed. We had supper in the restaurant and really enjoyed the food. The smoked sampler for an appetizer and I had the burger while my wife had a salad with grilled chicken. Both very well prepared. The best part of the trip was hanging out at the bar for the evening visiting with the other patrons and just enjoying the owners company. read more
