Have heard some good and bad things about these puffs. Finally able to try them for myself. Walked in and was greeted with a smile. Friendly and clean establishment is always a good start. Asked the cashier which one is the the most popular...hesitation and what seemed like a guess to me as he said "um...um...the honey butter." Ok then, let's try the Honey Butter with vanilla cream. Cream puff is large for sure, but seemed a little on the dry side for my taste. Plenty of filling, but the filling could have had more taste. The vanilla cream didn't seem to be very silky and smooth or even have a real pronounced taste. Overall...not super impressed especially for nearly $4 for one puff. I love some sweet treats and I can say that I've tried it, but don't see myself craving another one anytime soon. read more

I never knew I needed cream puffs in my life. Until I had one at Beard Papa's. The Original with Vanilla cream was crispy and fluffy, and the cream part was so subtle and light with just enough sweetness. The Strawberry topping was awesome, it had a nice tang and sweetness to it. The Matcha like everything about Matcha Either you're a fan of Matcha or not depends on if you'll like it. The Matcha cream part was not as overpowering with Matcha flavor like I thought it would be. The Matcha Topping itself tastes like the Matcha Kit Kat if you've ever had those. At about 3.50 a piece it's abut pricey. All in all it was a great experience and I would come back for a batch of cream puffs every now and then. read more

Today was my second visit. My girlfriend wanted to try it so I came back to try a different flavor. The first time I came at 6 pm. They only had the original with vanilla or green tea filling. There was only a couple of people ahead of me but I had to wait 15 mins for my order. Keep in mind that they had tons of cream puff shells ready so all they have to do is put in the filling which was easily dispensed by their cream dispenser. There were 3 people at the counter. One girl made the boxes and boxed the puff. One girl filled the puffs and one guy running the register. They were soooooo slow. It really should not take that long to fill a cream puff and box or bag it. The girl boxing the puffs was making the boxes as the order was getting filled. Dear God have some boxes premade before you get the order so that you can help fill the puffs. It's not rocket science. This is why you always see a lot of people waiting because it literally takes them 15 mins to fill and box 4 puffs. I'm not exaggerating either. It's like watching paint dry....so painful to watch. Today it took 20 mins to fill 4 puffs. I had the green tea filling which tasted better than the bland vanilla. Overall, The puffs are okay tasting and because of the frustration with the extremely slow pace of filling the puffs I would not come back. They just aren't worth the wait. Perhaps the other flavor shells are better but they never have them in stock. Service : 4/10 extremely slow. Do not order any unless you have at least 20 mins to wait Original cream puff shell: 5/10 crispy but flavorless. Doesn't taste like it was made with eggs and butter. Agh, well it's been weeks and every time I've gone, they've managed to sell out every flavors before hitting 2 PM except for Vanilla and Matcha. My verdict is .. I like it, but I don't like it? Maybe MY definition of a "flaky cream puff" is a hot, buttery, pulls apart croissant like pastry with cream filling. So to have a "flaky cream puff" in a hollow tough shell was differ from what I expected. I find myself saying "eh, it wasn't that impressive" But I still crave it often. read more

Given that it barely just opened, I expected some hiccups and waiting time. I've been to Beard Papa's before so I was excited for its first location in Texas. I wasn't expecting a VERY long line though but since we already drove this far out to Katy, we decided to wait. What I would suggest is them putting a sign near the front that actually tells the customer what flavours are leftover. By the time we arrived to the front, we could only choose original or strawberry for the shell and vanilla or chocolate for the filling. I was sad that I couldn't try the matcha green tea which I am guessing is the most popular flavor. I was surprised at how large the cream puffs were because if I remembered correctly, the cream puffs that I'd tried before were much smaller. They were still good though including the fillings. Everything's bigger in Texas right? Overall, I still like their cream puffs but not quite sure if I will drive all the way again to stand in line with the potential of everything running out. The pastries/cream puffs were pretty good and lightly sweet so that was great. They are bigger than your average but for the price I'm not sure how to feel. I got a strawberry with vanilla filling, green tea with green tea filling and cream brûlée with vanilla filling. They do fill it with a lot of cream and the cream is good. The matcha had a slight taste of matcha in it and was very light in flavor but I did like it. The creme brûlée honestly wasn't anything special that I had hoped it to be (no crispy sugar top) although it was there but it didn't taste bad. The flavors are a bit unique and I don't think I've seen this concept in town yet. The cream puffs weren't terrible but also not mind blowing to where I'd pay nearly $4 for. Literally sat in the restaurant writing this. I took my three year old here today to check it out as a treat. We ordered two green tea puff filled with ice cream. When they eventually came I picked them up at the counter. After I sat down I realised we didn't have any plastic utensils for me to cut one into small pieces for my three year old to eat. I went back to the counter to be told they had run out of utensils. The lady behind the counter asked if I wanted to see the manager when I said that it was unbelievable that at 4pm in the afternoon on a Saturday they had run out of a basic necessity. The manager came out and was equally unhelpful. I realise they are not supposed to be eaten with a plastic knife and fork but it's literally too big for my son to eat without cutting it up and ice cream is hard to eat by hand..... We ended up having to throw most of the ice cream away as we had no way of eating it. Get your act together please. ====================== Update regarding the managers response. The utensils are provided as a 'supplementary courtesy'. This 'courtesy' apparently extends to how early you get there on the day. 4pm on a Saturday is too late for this amazing courtesy of the provision of anything plastic, a spoon, a fork, even a knife would have been useful for us to eat..... I should have gone to one of the restaurants next door and asked them for one, no doubt we would have got friendlier service there.... Seriously, if you have young kids never go here.... read more

I went about a month after they first opened, so there was a huge line. Service was understandably slow and some items would run out during later parts of the day. Hopefully all these problems will be resolved when the hype dies down. The cream puffs are amazing! My favorite is still the classic one with the original shell and vanilla filling, but I like how there's several ways to customize your cream puffs (try the cream brulee!).
