On March 22nd I was there and spent $16 on Ice Cream NOT Frozen Custard. I also received a watered down cold chocolate syrup instead of HOT Fudge!!! The place also looks a hot mess. I have called, left several messages and I have received not one return call. Please bring back the original owners because they cared about Ritters. They cared about their customers and they cared about the product that they were selling. Whoever owns Ritter's now does not give two cents about the product the customers or Ritters. You can tell by the number of customers that DO NOT continue to patronize Ritters. It is very sad because I used to love going there and now I don't. I will never go there again. I was deceived. Been taking my family to this location since 2004. The previous sets of owners ran it well, but now things are not so great. A couple of months ago we got our usual mix of items & the custard tasted, as others have described as a "chemical" taste, like something out of a Hallmark store Potpourri w/ clove in it. Really gross. I called the store and let them know, & the gentleman was kind enough to acknowledge my concerns but didn't really believe there was a problem I guess. A month or so later, we tried again, reluctantly, and were pleasantly surprised that the custard tasted normal again. Unfortunately, we decided to get Ritter's today and that same Potpourri/Clove taste is back. I told the guy very nicely that we probably won't be coming back Ritter's again due to this returning issue & he said he would let the owner know. What a cute little shop for a sweet treat! My daughter loved the dirt kids cup and I got the cookie dough kids cup. My sister had the strawberry shortcake sundae and they were all delicious! There's a drive thru or order window. Service was nice but they were busy so there was a slight wait. This should be expected on a Saturday afternoon in July in this Texas heat! The wait was reasonable and the staff were as fast as they could be and very friendly (and patient with a 6 year old ordering). Ordered 3 qts of Mint Chocolate Chip during March Mint Madness - their promotion. Drove ALL THE WAY to them to purchase - and they didn't have any Mint Chip available - during their promotion month! So I ordered 3 qts, drove ALL THE WAY back to pick up. All 3 qts have NO MINT FLAVOR - they're just green-colored, vanilla-flavored custard that they didn't mix well. The chips were all at the bottom of the container in one, all at the side in the next and almost non-existent in the last qt. And I don't even want a lot of chocolate! This place is the cuter, more local, homey, version of Sonic. Definitely a must for a hot day! They are known for their glaciers, which I heard are really good but being lactose intolerant I got shaved ice. The portion size is huge for the price! The flavor rivaled any other shaved ice place but the bottom half of my cup was a giant chunk of ice, inedible unless you waited for it to melt. It was nice to enjoy something cold and refreshing on a warm/sunny day in Cypress. They have a variety of choices from snow cones, ice cream, shakes, malts, and Italian ice. No matter the craving for cold treat, Ritter's may have what you want. The shaved ice or snow cone flavors were you basic flavors, such as cherry, grape, orange, watermelon, tiger blood and a few more. You can also add a topping or scoop of ice cream to it for an extra cost. The sundaes though had a variety of combinations. The only thing about this is if you have something with fudge you should eat your sundae quickly because the fudge will cause the ice cream to melt quicker. I didn't get to try anything else but it all looked good. They also sell hot dogs based on what I saw on the menu. I would definitely give them a try if you want a cold treat and is decently priced compared to other places. read more

The line went fast it was just a bunch of ppl in line and in the drive thru. So I had high hopes. I got a Sundae . The chocolate was still hot on the side which was nice but it was just so much chocolate . At the end I had a layer of leftover chocolate. Ritter's is so nostalgic for me. This was my family's frozen custard shop for me entire childhood, and I miss it so much now that I'm living in Austin as an adult. One thing I will never forget: The birthday cake flavor. It had actual birthday cake and icing in it, and it's literally the best frozen custard I've ever had. I miss it. I long for it. When will it be back?! It was one of their rotating flavors that I was only able to try one time. I hope they haven't changed the recipe. Anytime I'm in Katy, I stop here! This is the size of the $5.25 'Turtle Sundae' (no whipped cream at our request). Other reviewers mentioned that the quantity and quality had gone down but we gave it a shot anyway. They were right. Not only was this the smallest full size sundae we've ever bought here but it was also the most tasteless. The custard literally had no taste. I'm not sure what ingredients make custard tasty but they either skimped on them or just left them out. I understand that food costs are higher and if that's the reason for this then say it. The ice cream here is absolutely the best. The question is why the 1 star rating? It is because it will take you about 40 minutes to get through the drive thru. I sat there and timed how's long it took for each car to go through. It took about 10-12 minutes per car. Think about that. 10-12 minutes!! So if there's 4 cars in line, guess what? You'll be in line for 40 minutes. The other question you have to ask does it really take 10 minutes to scoop ice cream? Compare this time your waiting for ice cream vs going to a great food drive thru where they're actually giving you full meals, and getting you out in half the time. Finally after 49 minutes of waiting in line, we get to the window and the girl tells me that they're out of all flavors of the day, out of shakes etc. Keep in mind that I can drive to Chappel Hill in the same amount of time as what I've waited here!! I ask her why they don't at least put up a sign to tell the other cars in line that will wait almost an hour in line to find out that they've wasted their time. I will say that this place has the absolute worst customer service I've ever seen. They can't even have the common courtesy to put up a sign to let people know that they will wait an hour in line, only to find out that they waited for nothing. This place seriously need to evaluate their process and organize themselves better to be more efficient. I will not come here, even though their product is good. They've shown themselves to not care about their customers. I would recommend you find another spot to go to. read more

Finally got to try this place, the line was super long but moved fairly quickly. We preferred the Mud Sundae and Turtle Sundae. They both were good, however, the Turtle Sundae was so melted it just tasted like a super sweet shake. I think the hot fudge melted the ice cream. Maybe they put too much. I really had to come back and amend my review of this place! I tried their rocky road custard for free, yes you read that right, FREE! (More on that below) and while it did melt faster than traditional ice cream, it was nothing like the melting rate of their sundaes that I've tried. That rocky road custard was so delicious, sans the surprisingly hard marshmallows, that it really changed my whole perspective on this custard thing. So basically, nix those hellish melting sundaes and stick with the rotating or traditional flavors, and of course my beloved glaciers. Otherwise you're drinking your dessert, which I'm pretty sure the only people that don't mind that are the weirdos that put ice cream in the microwave *yuck* Useful Tip: sign up on the website for their loyalty club and get a coupon for 2 free scoops! FLAVOR #2 - turtle something - it was ok! not sumthin I would order again, needed more nuts FLAVOR # 3 - lemon - so tart, yet so sweet! everything you'd want in lemon ice cream/custard. If you have fond memories of when Blue Bell used to make this flavor, let Ritter's remind you of that greatness. Yes, the texture is different but the flavor is still wonderful.
