Other than that the bed was very comfortable, but I never saw a Roku TV where you need a code to add your own apps. The notes tell you to take the garbage out but don't tell you what cabin it's near. The location is good and I would still come here now that I know more about it.

We continued to follow them the next few years on some of their adventures and actually got to support them for a day when they did a thru hike of the Ice Age Trail in Wisconsin. Their hostel is such a warm and comfortable space, and they are such gracious hosts. They shuttled us around town when we needed it, they told us all about the area, gave great suggestions of places to see, and they even made arrangements for me with a local fly fishing guide! This was such a great stop on our journey and Franklin is such a cool area with lots to do. When talking to them about why they started a hostel, they said they wanted to support the hiking community and wanted to make a hostel that checked all of the boxes of things they were looking for in a hostel through the eyes of a thru hiker. We are not thru hikers but I think they have accomplished that and then some!

Your hosts Neil and Shari Pritchard's attention to detail is only out shined by the setting of a nearly secluded modern cabin along a babbling creek that lulls your soul back to a place as God intended: serene, peaceful, composed. The cabin is beautiful, complete with both gas and wood grills, indoor and outdoor fireplaces, indoor Jacuzzi and outdoor multi-person hot tub (secluded so sans bathing suit, yea!). We were welcomed with a gift bag of smores fixings along with 4' long wooden sticks. Nice touch. While we tend to pack for the unexpected, the cabin is well stocked with spices, seasonings, firewood, dishes, towels, bedding, cookware and ice--even a rack of chilled beer mugs in the freezer! A happy little sign on the fridge states, "Please help yourself to the condiments." Okie dokie! Now, all this comes at a price beyond dollars and cents (which we felt was fair). To "get away from it all" you must be willing to forego paved roads and cell coverage (wi-fi worked great as did the Dish TV--so not really roughing it). We still chuckle at the directions: Spruce Flats on right, immediately after passing Picnic Gap Pass, then Cranberry Creek on right, etc. Don't forget Field Mouse, Yellow Jacket, Squaw Root, and Hornbuckle Rd. What a hoot! Directions, BTW, were spot on and loading up on provisions is highly recommended since a proper grocer is about 30 minutes away. Pro tip: SUV recommended especially if looking to continue into the mountains further. My Land Rover, which greatest challenge has been negotiating speed bumps near school zones, smiled the entire time! Our last full day was met with torrential rain. No problem. We burned a fire, sipped some wine (OK, a lot), and worked on a puzzle. Later, we slept like a log. What more can I say? Running Bear Falls cabin is way up on my "give 'em a whirl meter." Go. Relax here.

My husband and I are in love with the mountains in North Carolina and have visited here every year…read morein October for the past eight years. Running Bear Falls is the one cabin we have stayed in that has everything we want and need! First of all, it is somewhat secluded (a must for us!) and although some recommend 4WD or AWD we made it just fine with my Honda Accord Coupe (next year we plan to be in an SUV with AWD only because we like to travel the "off beaten paths" sometimes. :) The drive from the Highway 19 to the cabin is roughly 10 minutes, however, once you get on Highway 19 you are not far at all from Maggie Valley or Waynesville, which both have some excellent restaurants. RBF is also decorated beautifully and, as another previous review stated, the cabin is well stocked and has some unexpected surprises such as chilled beer mugs. We had some lazy days when the rain was pouring down and the creek was amazing!! It flows nicely anyway, but when it rained it was something else! Nothing like sitting on that porch, or in the hot tub, listening to the sound of that creek with a glass of wine! Neil informed me that he built the cabin and the craftmanship is awesome! The beds were comfortable and we did play musical beds a bit because the sound of the rain on the metal roof upstairs was really nice! Plenty of firewood was provided and nicely stacked by the front door on the porch. My husband did have problems getting the wood to light. He said it was slightly damp. But, with a little persistence and patience we did have some cozy fires. RBF was so clean and smelled fabulous when we arrived (another "must in rental" for me, cabin must be clean). This was the first time I have ever cried when leaving a rental cabin. We were there two weeks and it was so hard to leave. Thank you Neil and Shari for sharing your piece of heaven with us! It may be great in the summer but this is off season and there is none of that. The stables were open, but I saw no one. It's a one ply toilet paper inn. The bistro and bar they advertise has not been open since the pandemic. For breakfast you get a mini sausage and biscuit and a mini cup for coffee. Rooms do not have daily housekeeping. Worse yet, it is advertised as being in Bryson City, it is 8.3 miles away from the downtown area and activity. The doors to the lobby close at 6 PM. After that you are on your own.It also gives the feel of a motel, not a resort. Because we were so far away from the action, we ended up being in bed by 7 pm. There were too many winding roads to risk going to a bar or any other night life that far away. I do like something about this place. I could see it being a real neat resort. It is homey and has a nostalgic atmosphere. But during November it is bland. Maybe it's days gone by. Will I be back? Maybe in the summer. But it needs a better variety of breakfast food, a good restaurant and bar to survive.
