I wish the Tandy product would have a little more information on them. For instance, medium rivet. I don't know the depth. Sometimes it's useful to bring in a scrap piece of what you're working with. Sometimes a bit high in price, but then again, I don't have to pay shipping and wait. As mentioned, you can save with becoming a member, and they will help you out to decide if it's worth it for you. It may not be as a hobby. But if you are going to do enough to sell items on Esty or Faire's then it will more than likely be worth it.

Tandy Leather is amazing! I wasn't sure if it would be worth driving out here, but I was 20 minutes…read moreaway for work one day and thought I'd check it out since I'd been admiring things online for ages. So so glad I came in! I'm new to leatherworking, and even having read project instructions and blogs, I wasn't sure what I needed or what to do with the tools and dyes. I browsed for a while and when I was ready to check out, Cass (sorry if I'm spelling it wrong!) asked what I was making and helped me weed out unnecessary tools and replaced them with what I really needed. She also took a lot of time walking around explaining what I'd need to dye leather and finish it, what kinds of coatings to use, and gave me a demo of using the strap cutter, dye, top coat, wax coat, gum tragacanth and edge slicker, as well as both edge bevelers I was purchasing. So so useful! She explained why eyelets won't work in belt holes (buckle pins need an oblong hole or they'll get stuck), and was generally really easygoing, full of great tips, and she gave me the leather sample piece so I could remember what to do. Also, she pointed me to their classes which are free if you get a $35 per year membership, totally worth it for four classes of instruction on carving, tooling, dyeing, etc. I have to make time to come back for that! There was a huge selection of tools in an organized and uncluttered store in a mill building with tons of parking. It's a little out of the way but I'm excited to take classes when I can fit them in and to come back if I have questions. Thanks Tandy!

On Friday, July 5th 5:45 I encountered a locked door (well inside the regular opening hours). This was the third time in a year that I went to Harvard Square in vain. Occasionally I need repairs. Leather World seems to be the only Rimowa option around Boston. A half dozen repairs were done okay, but not always on the first try. Often they leave glue residues inside and never make an effort to remove dents. I had repairs done in Frankfurt at the the airport and in Beijing with much better results.

Savvy-traveler items like a money belt; a clothesline for stringing up in your hotel room so you don't have to bring so damn many clothes or overpay for hotel laundry service; the world's best-engineered travel toiletry bottles (won't break or ooze open in your suitcase; you'll never need to buy another set after buying these). The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The last time I was there, a salesperson talked me out of buying a voltage converter so I could be prepared for every possible scenario on an upcoming trip, and told me that almost all electronics made within the last 5 years have built-in converters. Talking me out of buying things I don't need--now that's a store I'll go back to.
