From the famous Portland Head Lighthouse to off the beaten path locations that no tourist ever attended, he found spots to take gorgeous photos and videos. Although the weather on the day we visited was overcast, Norm even planned for those weather contingencies and had multiple locations ready for us to film from. He helped to structure the tour so that lighting was best for the specific shot. Prior to our tour, Norm had also location scouted a variety of different locations so that he could recommend specific spots from which to film rather than us wasting time looking for a spot to shoot from. Norm was also extremely hospitable and friendly and epitomized Maine hospitality. Norm and his company have the flexibility to cater the tour to your exact specifications: You want local only food places for foodies; you want a tour in Cantonese or Portuguese; You want a tour of all lighthouses -- nothing was a problem. Norm also took us to a local restaurant that had some of the best clam chowder in the east coast, and the absolute best lemon mascarpone cheesecake that I have ever tasted in my life. Thank you Norm. We would never do Maine without first booking a tour with you.

He was so much fun, but moreso, very knowledgeable about the city, restaurants, and some of the historical landmarks. he was a very personable guy and you need that type of a personality on a 2 hour walk. It was one of the best parts about our trip to Portland. We were able to try some great local food and drinks and learn so much about a fantastic city! We will definitely be back. Jason was fantastic and we highly recommend asking for him through Maine Day Ventures! you won't be disappointed!

We chose May 26th for the 1:30 p.m. tour, and from the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel so welcome. Our tour guides -- Bruce B., Jeff M., and Joe N. -- were outstanding. They brought the mountain to life with fascinating facts, rich history, and just the right amount of humor to keep the energy high throughout the ride up. At the summit, they went well beyond what was expected: rather than retreating to their vans or the museum building, they stayed with our group, helped take photos, and made themselves available to answer questions as everyone soaked in the breathtaking views. That kind of personal touch made a real difference. Our volunteers were thrilled with the entire experience from start to finish. As someone who organizes events like this specifically to show appreciation for the people who give so much of their time, it means the world when the staff goes above and beyond to make it special. Tim, Bruce, Jeff, and Joe -- thank you for making this a truly memorable day for our group!

It's such a fun activity to do if you have kids, love history, and/or love trains. The employees were friendly, the seats were comfy, and the views were amazing. We went in May so the train was pretty empty; they gave us the option of riding in first class, free of charge. Score! They also told us stories and facts through the intercom. I highly recommend a visit!

I was very disappointed with my experience on the mountaineer train 4 hour ride a few months ago…read more We spent $159 just for two people on the most basic "coach" level seats! It was extremely overpriced and they charge an extra $4.50 per person in fees when booking online. Their lunches are $20 for a sandwich and snacks + drinks are ridiculously expensive. Now as for the ride, it was definitely too long. The first 1.5 hours is literally looking at nothing but the backyards of people's homes and the forest of trees. They have a narrator during the first half of the trip, but you could barely hear him at all. There's no cell service or Wi-Fi so you're really stuck to staring out the window. The train does get some nice mountain views for about an hour, stop at a tourist gift shop for 30 minutes, and come back the exact same way. The coach seats were ok and we got lucky it was a cool day with a nice breeze coming through the open windows. There is no AC in the coach seats, but it's available in first class and dome seats (however it does smell very musty/damp and would've made me cough the whole ride). The coach seats face each other, so leg room is literally impossible for 4 adults. We took up all the leg room with just 2 people. Overall, myself along with many other people on the train were not thrilled with the price we paid and what we got in return.
