The lighthouse bike tour offered by Summer Feet was the top activity on my Portland bucket list, and it did not disappoint! Our tour guide, Lauren, was a life long Maine resident, and such a fun, upbeat, guide for our day. The ride was relatively easy, and we had plenty of time to explore at each lighthouse. The Portland Head Light is stunningly beautiful, and we had plenty of time to enjoy the views, take photos, etc. The lunch stop at Bite into Maine was fabulous! Our guide took our orders ahead of time so everything was ready when we arrived. Nothing beats a lobster roll and a blueberry soda! Beyond amazing! Best part of my trip to Portland. I made my first trip to Portland this past week and did the usual collecting of recommendations from friends on social media. I'm so glad a friend recommended this trip, because I can't imagine a better way to see Portland. My guides - Tom and Art - were incredible and had tons of great historical information on the city. We were lucky enough to have a perfect day weather-wise, which definitely made it that much better. I will say, I agree with some of the other reviewers that the level of difficultly is at least intermediate. That said, I hadn't biked outdoors in years and I'm in my mid-30s, and I made it through. However, I was definitely one of the youngest and still in the slow group. I assume the others were more avid riders. I also agree that padded shorts or pants will definitely help. However, if you can get past that, then you can't beat the beautiful, breathtaking views you will experience on this trip. And yes, the lobster rolls and the Maine wild blueberry soda were delicious!! Would definitely recommend!! read more

We signed up for this tour through NCL. Prior to the actual cruise NCL offered no info as to the length/level of the excursion which most likely was one reason why there was such a discrepancy in riding abilities. Our guides, Dan & Holly, did a wonderful job. Dan did a phenomenal job of diffusing a cantankerous complainer and made it all so enjoyable. Holly was super sweet and fun to chat with. Courtney and Ross served as excellent tour guides for a 4.5 hour, 18 mile bike tour through Portland to see some of the historic lighthouses. We were impressed by our guides' knowledge and attentiveness to safety. This was an easy ride, however, some level of fitness is required as well as being comfortable riding along the road (there were some bike paths, but some road riding). One item of note is that in general, Portland drivers are very courteous to bikers. The tour included lunch in the park featuring lobster rolls. I'm allergic to shellfish, and there were non-lobster options. During one of our stops, I accidentally left my glasses behind, and Ross went the extra mile to circle back and retrieve them. All in all this was a highly entertaining, educational and fun way to spend a day in Portland, and we plan to use this group for a tour next time we're in town. read more

My 17 year old daughter and I had a great time on the 5 Lighthouse Tour in Portland, Maine last week. Our tour guide Dan was friendly and informative. The other cyclists were fun, and the lobster roll was delicious. Dan even brought us molasses cookies as a sweet treat. The biking was fun though it does require some stamina on some inclines. Most of the biking was on a bike path though some of the tour required riding on the streets and the bridge to get to South Portland. We always felt safe on any path / road. Had a great day with my family of 5 with guides Nick and Mckenzie. Perfect way to spend a day seeing the coastline of Maine and 5+ lighthouses along the coast. Plus we saw where the Liberty ships were built and a WW2 fortification, the ride was pretty easy and we had plenty of water and stops. We did the Bike and Hike with Rick and Dan. It was wonderful! The bike path was really nice and they guided us over the bridge where the traffic was. I loved walking around the island, seeing the pet cemetary and the school for the deaf. Just finished the 5 Lighthouse Bike Tour with Andrea and Art as our guides. Both were acknowledgeable, friendly, helpful and super patient with my young daughter who needed a little help with gears. I came for the lighthouse cycling tour the other day and loved it. Isaac and Erin were our tour guides and were great. Erin was so sweet and Isaac was great as well, they were a perfect pair. We went to more than just five lighthouses which was a bonus from what was advertised. The routes we rode and the sights we saw were all perfect. I just loved it. Our group had a great time on our electric bike tour. We visited five lighthouses and even got to tour one. Stopped at a delicious bakery/cafe to pick up lunch (which was delicious) and made our way up the hill to enjoy our picnic lunch with a breathtaking view! Elizabeth had the picnic tables set up when we arrived with blueberry drinks, chips and cookies from a local bakery. I HIGHLY recommend getting the electric bikes unless you're a cyclist. It's nice because with these bikes you can get as much or as little exercise as you want. You travel up some steep hills, so having the electric power was welcomed. If you're visiting Portland and want so see some great views, this is the way to go! read more

No Better Way to Spend a Sunny Day Wilson was our rockstar guide. He checked after 5 minutes of biking to make sure everyone had the right seat height and to see if his pace was good. He made sure to bring over the water jug to anyone that needed water. We even had lunch on a tablecloth! The biking was lovely the entire way, light traffic when there was any at all and very moderate hills. I biked it in crocs and I could have done it in flip flops. I exercise about once a month even though I walk a 30 minutes each day. read more

The summer light house tour was quite informative on top of being an excellent work out. The guides (Wilson & Norm) were full of information but kept the tour laid back enough that riders were able to explore themselves. We were lucky enough to have a chance to explore the interior of one of the lighthouses during our tour, which seemed to be different from the standard tour. I will admit this did set the tour back a bit on timing and we did not arrive till a bit later then some of the group members expected. I will also add that some parts of the ride were a bit grueling and those members of the group that were not regularly active struggled at certain stages. The positives were the workout, the guide information, the scenery, and I appreciated the lunch was a bit more then what you would expect. I was also impressed that the tour company happily paid our entry fee to the surprise light house tour even when it was not planned. The negative aspects would be a longer tour then expected and I imagine some of our group members did not enjoy the grueling workout on the second half of the tour. All in all this was a great way too see the lighthouses and explore the surrounding Portland Area. I would suggest this tour to any active tourist looking for a good afternoon workout and some fine scenery. read more

First time in Portland, Maine and first time doing a bike tour so we weren't quite sure what to expect. Our tour guide Tom was awesome. We were the only 2 people on the tour so it was pretty cool having our own little private tour. The meetup spot was easy to find and Tom got us all set up and helped us adjust our bikes. The bikes come with a decent sized bag (pannier) which was plenty big for a large water bottle, jacket, phone, etc. The ride is about 12 miles long with various stops to refill water or use the restroom. We had no problems doing the ride but we are in our 30's and in good shape. We had lobster rolls, chips, and some delicious molasses cookies for lunch. There was also root beer and blueberry soda available. I must say, I was very impressed with the delicious lunch. I was not expecting such a yummy lobster roll. Tom went ahead of us and had the picnic table all set up by the time we arrived. I must also point out that he had to do some major maneuvering on the day we took our trip due to a high volume of people in the park for HS graduation and other events. Tom gave us some really cool info about the area and answered all of our questions. He was informative without being over the top. There was time at each spot to walk and meander before heading off to the next stop. The final stop is the Two Lights State Park before getting back on the van and heading back. What a wonderful way to see Portland & get a little exercise too. Too bad we don't live here, I would love to buy Tom a beer or two and chat more with him about this cool city. My husband and I and our 2 millennial children and their significant others loved our Peaks Island Tour with Wilson. The bikes were pre-sized for us and had our names on them - which made it easy during our many stops to find the right one. The ferry ride was great with Wilson sharing his vast lighthouse knowledge. Peaks Island was beautiful and even though it was a very hot day, and some of us are not in shape, Wilson made it easy with lots of stops for beautiful pictures. The stop at Battery Steele was cool - literally, as the dark underground tunnels felt air-conditioned. The lobster roll was great and we even had time for ice cream! If you're looking for an active way to get to know the Portland, ME area with the reward of "Portland's best lobster roll" for lunch, I highly recommend the five lighthouse tour with Summerfeet. The tour was well organized and the tour guides were informative and friendly. The bikes were pre-selected for us based on height/gender and they have all of the details down (extra jug of water to refill your bottle, bags on the bikes to carry important stuff like cameras and jackets, and space in the van to leave your larger personal belongings. We visited five lighthouses for a total of about 13 miles and were then transported back to town (with the option of cycling back with a guide for the more intrepid). Our lunch stop was at the fourth lighthouse (Portland Head Light, Maine's most photographed lighthouse) and we had our choice of lobster roll from the "Bite into Maine" food truck (included in the price of the tour). I had the "picnic style" (buttered lobster with coleslaw on a toasty buttered bun) and it was the best lobster roll I've ever had!** Our tour guides had a whole picnic set-up complete with kettle chips, blueberry soda, and locally baked molasses cookies for dessert. It was a great way to get to know the four other people we were touring with and Portland Head Light is the quintessential New England lighthouse. The tour itself was a perfect blend of path riding with the group and then getting to set out a bit on our own for some rolling hills on winding country roads. I felt like I got some good activity in (maybe not enough to burn off the lobster roll, but close enough) while seeing a lovely area of coastal Maine. Summerfeet also offers multi-day supported tours/rides in a variety of distances/abilities. I think a long tour would be a great way to see even more of Maine but will have to save that for a future trip. When I do, I will definitely book with Summerfeet! **Admittedly, it was the first and only lobster roll I've ever had, but our Maine native tour guides assured us it was the best. read more

I'm 30 and most of the others on the tour were older and only one had to tap out and take the van--which is kept accessible to anyone most of the trip and the guides check in regularly to see if anyone wants to tap out and they remind everyone its about enjoying the day and to have no shame if you decide to go to the van. Our guides Erin and Carolyn were super friendly and super strong--I was impressed by how quickly they can get 12 bikes on and off of a "church van". I was really impressed by how nice of a picnic lunch was set up for us--lobster rolls, chips, plenty of water, enough local blueberry soda and root beer for all, as well as some yummy molasses cookies! Worth noting if you're like me and sacrifice bringing a couple of things so you don't have to carry a bag--each bike has a bag on it which is plenty large enough for water, wallet, phone, etc. (about the size of a shoebox). read more

We did the tour with a small group on bikes and we decided to go a little further and did a 21 mile loop. It's a great ride- just enough to know you've been riding but not too much. The stops to see the lighthouses were great and the lunch was good too. We had the lobster rolls but due to our small group easily had the opportunity for something else. The 5 lighthouse tour is NOT for the novice cyclist and you need bike shorts to make it through comfortably. Don't let the first leisurely, peaceful (easy) half of the tour fool you- it's the 2nd half that's in the peak heat of the day, hilly blacktop busy two-lane highways, & on a full belly which is the killer. The tour guide didn't offer much in the way of additional history and left us on our own half the time. At the end, our guide didn't even realize that 2 people were missing. Luckily other tourists noticed them and pointed them in the right direction. Tips for cyclists who take tour: Lunch is great- don't eat it all or you will be in pain (or sick in the bushes) for the last half of the tour. Don't plan on being back by 2:30p to do other activities. Our guide said we made good time but lunch took forever and we weren't back until closer to 4p. Plan to spend $35 to park in a nearby garage. Overall, we would have been better off renting bikes on our own since the bikes were quality and well maintained. Yelp and Trip Advisor failed to warn me so I hope this helps someone else. read more

This Bike Tour was the highlight of our trip to Portland. We did the five Lighthouse tour with Wilson and Art and they both were knowledgeable and friendly. You could tell that Wilson loved his state and wanted to share as much information as possible with us. He was friendly and informative and made everyone feel as though they were an important part of the group. The lighthouses were nice and the ride was pleasant. I do not think the excursion is for people who are very out of shape.
