I clocked the "Used Books" sign on the way through town and had to check it out. I can only wish we still had a shop like this in Santa Cruz. Miles of used (and new) books--like the Tardis, it's bigger on the inside. The mystery section alone was jaw-dropping. I picked up some excellent technical volumes for my archaeologist kid, plus some LPs and a cookbook. Yes, they have used LPs. And puzzles, DVDs, CDs, musical instruments, art supplies. Other eccentric customers for atmosphere. A cool dog, named Zeus. And owner, Chris, was lovely to talk to. This place is pure magic--you should go.

They have new and used books, fiction, nonfiction, cookbooks, travel, rare and out of print books,, a very large children's room, and the list goes on and on. The prices are more than fair.... They also buy used books at a fair rate for store credit . If you don't find what you need this time, they will roll your credit over until the next time you come in. It's really cool that they do that. Once you buy your book, take it across the street to Los Bagels, And you can grab a nice snack while you peruse your purchase. It's been around forever, and once you step inside, it just keeps going, winding into a surprisingly large space with a solid nature and environmental section, plus science fiction, fiction, and well curated staff picks. A highlight of our visit was the resident bookstore cat, the Great Catsby, a dignified 16-year-old. We didn't see any posted rules, but it's worth remembering: interaction with a cat is always on the cat's terms. Sit calmly nearby and you might be chosen (we were lucky!), but it's never a given with any cat, especially a senior one. A lovely bookstore experience. Long live the indies!
