Sorry for the deviations off topic, but they made the day :) The members (12 & 13yr olds) had decided to go to Carlingford, for a half day (3hrs) of activities, with half saying they would do a water activity and the other half would do a land activity. We decided on the team activities for both. But on the morning when we all met at the bus there was a lot less willing to do the water activities. 'What to do?' Is all I could think. A downside to Carlingford Lough became our upside. The water/tide was out and it was very windy, so we were all stuck on land. We had planned on the team activity (24 challenges) for the land people, having told (as required) Carlingford Lough in the days before. There was mention of Laser Tag on the way up on the bus - the members not getting the idea of pre-choosing activities. So when we got to Carlingford (the town) we were lost, rang the number and were told to turn the bus around and we would see people in 30 seconds. Sure enough there were 4 leaders waiting for us. They seemed to have no idea about our previous land based plans when they were telling us about the no water activities and suggesting Laser Tag. That wasn't going to be a prob with our crowd. They walked us up to the adventure centre, about 5 mins. Once in there we were ushered upstairs where it was explained to our members about the water and once Laser Tag was mentioned it was sealed. We got a big locker to put our bags in. Those members that had swimming togs on already were allowed into a changing room. Then we got the combat overalls and guns :) and Will's competitive side kicked in :p The dont's were explained (there were no do's.... Yet) Fudge, I think that was his nickname, turned from a friendly person to a no nonsense person - which grabbed the members attention. And then it was off to the hill. Down a public street and up a steep hill - if you have seen Band of Brothers, think Curahee (nobody got my reference on the day either :( ) As we got near the Laser Tag grounds - during which they broke into impromptu signing of Arian na Brian.... Why? They had no concept that they were on the border with the north. Weirdos! :p - anyway, we walked past the abseiling and archery which both looked pretty good. We got into the 'dead zone' (we are in the middle of a forest... imagine pine needles on the floor) and more do not's were explained. No running? Seems weird, but then they explained that since they brought that rule in their injuries have fallen to zero... You will slip on pine needles! They have a gun that if they shoot you, kills you in one shot.... For those found to be breaching the no running rule! All together we had 3 different games of two sides, so 6 (the Blue team rocked... Not competitive at all :p) and one final game of team shoot out - think back to back, take 5 steps... Turn and shoot.... One of the blue team managed to slip while turning... But we won! (Blue team rocks.... But you knew that) And then we traipsed back down 'Curahee' and dis-armed and de-gowned. There wasn't a major ceremony or passing off, though one of the Carlingford Lough staff did get me, as main leader, to ask what we thought of it, and whether we would be back (or recommend them to others) So would I recommend it to other people? Yes - just be aware of the cons! Pros: Decent enough price for a group - we had priced 4 others Great staff - made it fun It was good that we could change our mind on the day - sort of! Cons: What would they have done if we were all for water? (When would they have told us?) The 3hours included getting into gear, walking up and down the hill - this was the main grumble of the members We asked the members a week later and they were all happy... Short term memory of teens huh?

Reese, our instructor, was great, really helpful and knew just how hard to make the course for us. Highly recommend if you're up for a challenge, a bit of craic and some sore abs in the morning. My 10 year old daughter can't wait to go again.
