Renter beware. I fought roaches for months after moving in, place was disgusting. A colleague ended up with black mold that they tried to blame her for when it was found the refrigerator was slowly leaking under the flooring. They clean it and quickly scam you. Once you get into their history, you will find the they are the same if not worse to the property owners. Pathetic and shameful. I would give them zero stars, but you have to pick one to post. I consider this place a joke and unfair, they fire their good employees for no reason and they keep the bad ones who cannot help you solve a simple problem or they keep you waiting with not a good answer, they managed my property and I am relieved they are no longer doing it... when the maintenance crew went over my house, the place was a mess, they said they fixed the problem but I saw nothing but a bad job done. Wow! Beaufort Rentals managed my property for over 8 years and I highly recommend that you look elsewhere to protect your investment. We purchased the home brand new and turned it over to Beaufort Rentals in pristine condition to manage when we moved overseas for six years. We returned to the property this year and walked through the house following a tenant vacancy. WE WERE APPALLED WITH THE CONDITION OF THE PROPERTY! We immediately notified Beaufort Rentals that they were no longer managing the property and we changed all of the locks. We hired Stinger Management (Veteran Owned) and paid out over $14,000 in repairs to make the home rental ready. Beaufort Rentals offered a mere $470 in return from the previous tenants security deposit! We've spoken to multiple military families in the Beaufort area that shared similar experiences with this management company, they also decided to switch management companies. If I'm expected to pay 10% management fees for a property that I'm unable to view due to being deployed/stationed across the globe, then I expect the company to protect my investment. I don't feel that this company is a good fit for military members that are unable to check in on the property routinely. I own multiple properties across the U.S. with over 25 years of active duty service. This review is my honest opinion based on my experience with multiple property management companies. read more

Absolutely the most unprofessional establishment I have ever encountered. I did not even sign a lease with this company. I signed a lease with a different rental company (who were amazing) but sild their business and Beaufort rentals bought it. We made on time payments for 19 months with ZERO issues! We fell on tough times with our son getting in a motorcycle accident and then I was laid off in December. We still paid December and January rent and I had a new job starting 2/17, so we called them and explained our situation told them that we will be late but it will be paid by the 20th and we would also pay the late fees associated. They did not care, would not give us any assistance and just threatened to evict us.... after 19months of on time payments and immaculately keeping the home. What a horrible way to handle clients. Then, they charged me fees that do not match our lease! They also told us we were no longer able to pay by check and had to either use a credit card (which comes with a $165 "convenience fee") or pay at Walmart. No, just no I told them. No where in my lease does it say this. In addition after we paid ALL rent, there is a $370 "late fee" on our account and they told us if we do not pay in 5 days they are going to start eviction AGAIN! Even though they OVERCHARGED me $125 in fees! Insane, horrible company. DO NOT RENT FROM THEM or DO NOT LET THEM MANAGE YOUR PROERTY! Although Adrian was proficient in executing the proper paperwork and deposits that needed to be taken care of he was extremely pushy. To the point I sent him a video he needed while at the salon with foil on my hair because he kept calling, texting and emailing. Even when I told him something would be signed or paid at a certain time, he messaged or called me over and over before the agreed upon time. He was always nice and professional but that much communication throughout the day for several days became stressful which seemed unnecessary as we were both handling our sides at the agreed times. read more

Absolutely pathetic. Maintenance NEVER shows up and doesn't call to even let you know they won't be there. When they do show up, the work is amateur. The girls that answer the phone have no clue who their tenants are and never remember the most basic information about their tenants. I shouldn't have to repeat my issue or phone number a thousand times because you neglected to take note. I have been a tenant since April, and an office admin at another one of their buildings since August of last year. We purchased our home in Shadow Moss subdivision brand new in 2010. We lived there five years, painted the walls when we moved in and replaced the floors downstairs before we moved. Being a military family and having to move overseas for 6 years, we put our trust in Beaufort Rentals and had high hopes of them taking care of the home we loved so dearly. We got a short list of repairs recently when the latest tenants moved out, so since we're back stateside, we decided to return to Beaufort and take care of the repairs ourselves since the list was very minor. Holy cow, when we walked in, we were absolutely appalled. HOW DOES A RENTAL COMPANY ALLOW A VERY NICE HOUSE TO GET IN THIS CONDITION? Neglect is one simple word for it. After a week of the Maintenance Manager literally avoiding phone calls/emails, the chick at the front desk being superiorly unhelpful, and the maintenance guy that came out to walk through the property with us admitting that things were overlooked at the move out inspection and the tenants were about to be evicted had they not moved, we fired Beaufort Rentals and changed the locks immediately. The carpet in two bedrooms were severely stained, the carpet upstairs and staircase had gum (or other sticky residue) stuck in it, our Bali blinds were so filthy with dust that they were stained, the air vents/smoke detectors were covered with black dust, our flat painted walls were touched up with gloss paint that didn't even match (and we were told that they were touched up with gloss paint because Beaufort Rentals recommends to all owners that the walls should be semi-gloss for touch ups-first we heard of it), there were dirty dog rubs on walls/doors and chew marks all evidence that a pet was allowed on the property after we said no, things were broken on the refrigerator and a storage bin missing, microwave broken, oven glass broken, and sink faucets/drains broken. Beaufort Rentals, there is no need to respond with the same copy/ paste method you've used on everyone's else's reviews. My photos will speak volumes. MUST READ!!!! WARNING!!!! KEEP AWAY!!!! Almost 2 years later and I'm still furious about what Beaufort Rental did to me upon our moving out. Got curious to see how many more people They've SCREWED OVER and it looks like they are still doing so! AVOID AT ALL COSTS IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A HOME TO RENT!!!! *STORY TIME* When we moved in, the house was already a disaster. It was NEVER clean and we (my wife at the time and I) notified them our disdain with the condition of the house as it was NOT MOVE IN READY! We cleaned the home and got it the way it should've been. The painting on the walls was old as if it hadn't been painted in a very long time. Fast forward to moving out. The move out checklist stated all holes (can't remember the size it mentioned) must be filled in. We filled them in but they the color of the paste was obviously very bright white compared to the color of the wall. As respectful tenants, we decided HEY! Let's try to get paint as close to the coloring of the wall as we can and paint over the BRIGHT ASS WHITE PASTE that's extremely obvious. Well, that bit us in the ass majorly! Beaufort Rental informed us that we should've left the BRIGHT WHITE PASTE and not have painted over them because now they have to repaint the entire home since the paint isn't the same color.......WHAT?!?! What sense does that even make?!?! So basically either way, we would've been screwed out of the $1500 security deposit they decided to keep! I had a huge feeling they made that an excuse to repaint the entire home anyways because, soon after we left and got robbed of our security deposit, the owner of the home put it up for sale. Wow....coincidence that the entire house had to be repainted and the house went up for sale shortly after!!!! BEAUFORT RENTAL IS A SHADY, CROOKED, DISHONEST COMPANY!!! DO NOT GO TO THEM FOR ANY RENTAL PROPERTIES!!!!! ***REPLY BACK TO MATTHEW F.*** $200 of the $1500 deposit is some of it back, I agree. Just find it very ironic that, upon moving out, the house had to be repainted because of the wrong color(s) that wasn't a perfect match and then was put up For Sale shortly after. I don't quite understand how bright white paste would've been any different after filling holes per the move out check list. It would've also been nice to be reimbursed for the time and money spent on cleaning supplies to get the home to move in condition when we initially moved in as well, but I won't post those before photos on here. Military families... avoid this company!!! My husband and I needed a temporary single family home. At first we appreciated the customer service but were soon shown multiple dirty homes with promises of them being cleaned up and painted/cleared of debris. Believing Matt, and since we were somewhat desperate, we ended up choosing the best option for us. The house we moved into was dirty with cobwebs on the ceilings, scratches and scuffs on the walls, stained carpet, etc. Beaufort Rentals did not paint. The yard was full of broken glass, cans, and other debris. When we asked Beaufort Rentals to fix the rotting floorboards in the corner, cabinets in the kitchen, and broken closet doors, they said these were the responsibilities of the owners and there was nothing they could do. When we told them the house was dirty, they said "Oh sorry, we keep getting complaints about our cleaning service. We will make a note of it"... We appreciate them making a note of it but they should have come back and done the job correctly instead of keeping us in a dirty house. We marked ALL of these things down and took pictures. When it came time to move, we were unable to do a walkthrough with Matt, though we tried (timing did not work and unfortunately with military life sometimes there is nothing we can do about these things). We HOPED that the pictures we took and the notes we made when we moved in would be enough. This unfortunate and unavoidable circumstance left us vulnerable for Matt (the owner as well as leasing agent) to take advantage of us. Beaufort Rentals took almost all of our deposit for things like "yard cleanup" and "wall painting". We were in this home for 6 months with no children, both of us working full time, rarely there, with very little furniture to scuff walls, etc. In fact we made repairs, did our best to scrub and clean the walls and dispose of the backyard debris because I was so embarrassed by and uncomfortable with the state of the house. This company charged us to "fix" the things we complained about upon moving in! By the time we got what was left of our deposit we were already across the country. The pictures I sent, the documents, the proof, did nothing. In fact, Matt avoided my attempts to call and even when he did respond he was all of a sudden short, condescending, and completely opposite of the congenial attitude he had when he was trying rent the home out to us. This company took advantage of our situation. I have rented many, many homes over the course of my life as has my husband, and we have never had this type of horrible experience. If you are in the military (or even if you are not), please feel free to message me and I will be happy to show you the documents, photos, and emails that demonstrate Beaufort Rentals' unwillingness to handle this situation the way an honest and forthright business would. I also want to add that many of the reviews on their Facebook page are either people that work for the company or (as a quick search will show you) friends of people that work for the company. Beaufort Rentals is unprofessional, untrustworthy, dishonest, and disgraceful. They really made things difficult for me and my husband. I had driven across country from Oregon to actively search for housing in Beaufort before flying back to Oregon to make the cross-country trip again with my husband and all our belongings. I had 10 days in Beaufort to find housing, which seemed like a reasonable plan. On day two, Beaufort Rentals accepted our rental application (and the $90 application fee) on a house that would be perfect for my husband and me. They told me our application was accepted and that the house would be rented to us. We were so excited! BUT THEY FLAT-OUT LIED. I thought something was odd when they didn't immediately request a deposit and start the leasing process. I called every day over the next few days to submit the deposit and sign a lease, and each time I called, I was told that all was good with our application, the house would be rented to us, but that Donna would call us back "within 24 hours" to complete the leasing process. Donna never called me back. Problem was, I had stopped searching for housing elsewhere because I was repeatedly ensured that I had found a house with Beaufort Rentals. Three days after the initial "acceptance" of our application, I called again in the morning to get the ball rolling on the leasing process. The person I spoke to was short with me as if I had been annoying them with my daily calls. Again, they told me Donna would call me back. No one did. I called a second time that day, 15 minutes before the office closed, and I insisted that someone tell me what was going on. I knew by that point something was definitely not right. Finally, the person I spoke with (Rochelle?) "looked into it" deeper, put me on hold briefly, then returned to the line to say that they had apparently rented that house to someone else. In fact, they rented it to someone else on the very day that they told me that house would be rented to us. They kept me in the dark about it for several days and lied repeatedly to me! I wasted DAYS not searching for housing elsewhere because of their lies. It was a nightmare. I was devastated and panicked that I wouldn't be able to find housing before departing Beaufort. More days were wasted over a weekend while a general call-person worked their phone lines, providing absolutely no assistance, and expressing zero concern for the situation I was in. The most ridiculous part of this whole debacle was that the following Monday, someone did call me and told me the house had been rented to someone else... as if I didn't know... that was the devastating information I had squeezed from Rochelle(?) the previous Friday night. If I had not constantly called and begged for the truth, they would have decided to take FIVE days to tell me about their false agreement to rent to us. Beaufort Rentals handled this situation so unprofessionally. The blatant, repeated lies were unforgivable. They ripped me and my husband off with their application fee. They took $90 from us, stole 5 days from the 10 days that I had in Beaufort to search for housing, and offered nothing to fix the damage caused. This company is despicable and I suspect it's their game to advertise houses for rent well beyond the need just to collect application fees from hopeful renters. Proceed with caution when working with Beaufort Rentals. I wouldn't trust them ever again. They have a lot of broken promises and damage in their wake. It took me a whole month to get around to writing this review because I didn't want to write it while angry... well, I'm still angry and would like the application fee returned - at the very least. Show some integrity, Beaufort Rentals.*** ***UPDATE: The owner of Beaufort Rentals called me and apologized for the situation. He told me he would refund our application fee if I agreed to remove this review. I agreed only to modify the review (I still think future customers should know about my experience). I am a former Marine who purchased a property in Beaufort a little over 15 years ago... Beaufort Rentals managed my property for 12 years after I changed duty stations. A couple years ago, after I retired, I started paying closer attention to the fees they were charging and noticed the lack of attention my property actually received, so I fired them. Here is what's bad about the company - Matt (the owner of Beaufort Rentals) also owns the maintenance company that is used for maintenance issues and repairs, and they seem to always find a way to charge excessive rates for work (usually $65/hr + materials). As a property owner, I find this to be a real conflict of interest because they used their own company to do work and really overcharged me (taking advantage of the fact that I am not local and cannot shop around for better rates for the work myself). Examples: (1) they charged me $75 to put on a $16 doorknob (which probably took them less than 15 minutes to install!), and (2) they put a new handle on a 14-year-old microwave for $160 (when that's the cost of a whole new microwave! I mean, why would you even repair such an old microwave instead of replacing it anyway?!?). Another terrible thing about Beaufort Rentals is that the company does not use the tenants' deposits to repair damage done to your property... When I saw the pictures of my home after the last set of tenants moved out, I noticed my flooring was damaged, carpet stains and holes in the carpet were not fixed, paint was needed throughout the home, and a closet door was broken! Instead of Beaufort Rentals taking these damages (or at least some of them) out of the tenants' deposit, they left the work undone and wanted to charge me for these repairs when new tenants moved in and complained about these issues! After reviewing a copy of the lease my current tenants were provided by Beaufort Rentals (after firing them and taking over the lease myself), I was shocked to see all the additional fees the company was collecting off tenants... Beaufort Rentals promotes their own products and services like renters' insurance, lawn maintenance, and even rents washers and dryers to tenants! They are really using every opportunity to make money off you and your tenants! To top it all off, when I told Matt about these conflicts, his unprofessionalism astounded me! He stated I was cheap and gave me the run around, even avoiding my phone calls and having me leave message after message with his receptionist. I refused to deal with his company any longer and fired him! Do yourself a favor and avoid this company! I have 6 homes all around the US and can tell you from experience that they are one of the worst property management companies out there! read more

Renters: AVOID. Owners: AVOID. Military: AVOID. When moving in: make a note of anything and everything that is broken/has an issue. I mean everything. Go through your rental with a magnifying glass and either take a picture or write it on the move in damages list. Renters - you will be fine if you can/are willing to make any necessary repairs. Be prepared to not have any answers to maintenance requests, regardless of how often (or politely) you ask. Communication is lacking. Ex: came home to doors open/closed that aren't usually open and closed. I called their maintenance line to see if anyone had been in the house doing maintenance (without notice or approval). Did not get a response for 24 hours that they gave someone a key for maintenance. And of course they did not even fix the issue. Ex 2: called their after hours line due to our washer flooding the laundry room. 4 weeks later it was fixed. (They did not care about the flood or water in the baseboards) Owners- I wish I had a way of contacting you to tell you not to pay whatever 'maintenance fees' they may be charging you. It would likely be more beneficial to manage the property yourself as Beaufort Rentals has done NOTHING for us as renters. (Aside from collecting money) Upon move out: they will charge you for anything and everything they can. Satellite dish that was there when we moved in? $100 off your deposit. (Which we fought and got back due to writing everything down). A few pine needles on the roof (because it's fall in Beaufort!!), yep that's another $60. I had a picture of the gutters being full when we moved in. Just avoid the headache and find someone else to rent through. Beaufort Rentals does have the most rentals in town, and they know it, and they WILL take you and your money. We, like many other military families, were desperate for a house and didn't have much of a choice. Best of luck to you! read more

We decided to go with another rental management company due to the lack of customer service from Beaufort Rentals. They wanted our driver's license to view a home so we sent that in. Then they said we also needed to have a credit card on file and I said NO. They were okay with that as I sent my ID into them. A gentleman called who could NOT speak clear English and I could literally NOT understand him. It was frustrating. You view the prospective rental homes on your own with an emailed password code. The whole process is not customer oriented and as a professional couple, we felt uneasy. We are now happy we chose another company to help us find the perfect place in Beaufort, SC. read more

We rented from Beaufort Rentals for a year when we first relocated to Beaufort. Overall, our experience was good. The staff was courteous when dealing with them. Our unit was clean when we moved in. We contacted the office twice about issues that developed with the property and both times property repair responded quickly and remedied the issue. The only reason I did not score them 5 stars is that when we eventually bought a home and were ready to move out at the end of our lease we discovered the "annual lease" was actually for thirteen months not the standard twelve months. This was not made clear at the onset of our lease. The broker in charge did agree that if the unit could be leased again immediately he would forego the final month, which did happen. We took great care when cleaning the unit prior to vacating and they returned 100% of our deposit. I would not hesitate to recommend Beaufort Rentals to anyone who is looking to lease a property or in need of a property manager. read more

The maintenance guy (the one actually completing the maintenance requests, not the maintenance manager that just sits in his office and put things off on everyone else) and Donna Green are the only ones worth their salt with this company. If you are military, absolutely STAY AWAY. We identified multiple issues with our house before we ever signed the lease, with promises that it would get fixed, and they never do. Every time WE have to follow up with them on the requests, we get the run-around that it's the owners fault and another promise that they would get back with us with the owners response...in which they never do. PLEASE SAVE YOUR MONEY! I have had the worst experience by selecting this management company to manage my rental property in Beaufort SC. Here are the list of issues: 1. They found me a renter and because the unit was empty, i had not replace the carpet. I wanted the renter to have good looking carpet so we agreed to offer the renter 50% off per day until the new carpet was installed (this would apply to the next months rent). Well, they gave the client half off the entire months rent and had to go back to the renter to get what was under paid. 2. The next month, there was a maintenance issue and I ordered to have the issues serviced. So the management should have been at the unit to supply the servicer with the payment. That didn't happen and the renter had to pay and then get reimbursed. This should have NEVER happened! 3. Because the renter was military and they had experienced two months of issues with renting my space, they had a friend create them new military orders in an effort to break the lease. (I would have to!) 4. Once I realized the relationship I created with this management company wasn't going to work, I asked that we break the contract in January 2011 and got not once phone call or email from the owner. I asked that mail me my keys. After not receiving a response nor obtaining my keys, I contacted him and he didn't return any of my calls. Last week, March 15th or so, I caught up with him and he could not locate my keys and had only just deposited the remaining balance, assuming the balance was why I called. I called because I did not have my keys and my HOA stated that it looked like someone had been staying in the unit. The owner was to follow-up with me about the whereabouts of my keys and didn't call me back at all. when I called him today, March 24th, he stated that his assistant mailed me my keys, didn't mail them certified mail or any way that they could be traced and they are not sure where they are since I don't have them. What business doesn't send important items via mail and not ensure they can be traced. And what aggravates me the most is that he really doesn't care that I don't have the keys and isn't looking to be held responsible...idiot! Needless to say, I will have to pursue legal action. So, please head my advise and way all of your options before choosing this organization to manage your property! read more

I was told they could not show the property that was listed because it had a tenant in it. ok .. so how can I view the property? When it's vacant or the tenant can show it to you if they want was the response. Ok how can I see if the tenant will show the property? You would have to get that information from the tenant. Ok .. so how can I reach them? You can send them an email or something ....... Ok... do you have the contact information? No we can't provide that to you.... Would you contact them for me? That's up to the tenant ........ and it started all over again. If you have ever had a conversation with a brick wall or enjoy talking to a brick wall; I would highly recommend you call Beaufort Rentals. The water pressure is so awful in the Oakview Commons unit (Taft Street) rented to us that the owner actually complained to the neighbor about it before moving out and renting it to us through Beaufort Rentals. There is an online news article from last year about it and even the plumber they sent out three times said this was a well-known issue. The lack of water pressure makes it nearly impossible to take a shower or do dishes: it's inexcusable to have to wait up to a day to do either. There's nothing like starting to shower, thinking the water pressure has finally recovered, only to have it drop again, and you have no way of rinsing off. Sometimes it's so bad the back of the toilet can't fill up with water, so the toilet is non-functional for hours. These are true slumlords. If you want to live in a piece of crap and not have anything fixed, this company is for you. They left me without gas and hot water during the coldest time of year, which is against the law. Among other problems with the house. They will charge you so much when you move out you will never receive your deposit. They have terrible customer service. Do not use this company. read more

Unprofessionalism at its finest. DO NOT RENT FROM BEAUFORT RENTALS!!!!! Their ads are completely misleading. The house we rented from Beaufort Rentals we found on Zillow. The ad showed beautiful green grass in the front and back yard. It had the fireplace listed as being a heating source. It was made out to be something it definitely was not! We showed up to the house and the backyard is a complete swamp when it rains with mud holes, and dog poop everywhere from the previous renters. Every time I let my dogs out I have to wash them off after. My daughter absolutely cannot go back there and play also. After about a week of being in the house we find out the fireplace never worked in the first place and that the heater in the house was not working properly either. We filed complaints with the BBB and the South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs against them for their misleading and false advertised ad. We also have a heater that does not work properly and our house is a freezer at night creating an unhealthy living environment. The heater company came out one time and said a duct was stuck shut so they opened it and said the heating system worked fine. Of course they were wrong. They came out a second time and said the heater had a broken duct and needed to be fixed. They said they would call the owner of Beaufort Rentals as soon as they left and it has been 9 days already and still no one has come to fix the heater. They also said the thermostat downstairs was off by 3 degrees, so just to get the house to be 72 we have to crank it to 75 which is absolutely ridiculous and its going to run our electricity bill through the roof. We also went into Beaufort Rentals and signed a document stating that we did not want to be in the house anymore and they would list the ad again on there website and we could also list the ad ourselves. They waived the $75.00 dollar fee for relisting the ad. I have been harassed two different times by the owner of Beaufort Rentals to take down complaints I filed. After not taking down my complaints with the BBB and the South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs they removed the ad for our house from there website and from Zillow and stopped helping us to find new renters. They also responded to our complaint we filled with the Department of Consumer Affairs and completely lied in the complaint. They said I admitted that I was trying to use the fireplace as an excuse to get out of the lease. Never did those words come out of my mouth. I told the unprofessional owner that we could not afford the house and that the ad was misleading and that's why we wanted out of the house. Lucky for us, South Carolina has laws that protect tenants from unprofessional company's like Beaufort Rentals who are clearly breaking them. read more

I agree my daughter and son in law are renting a place from them now and have only been there 3 weeks with a newborn baby and have had no air conditioner in June Mat is not very helpful and told them if she felt it was unsafe for her baby she could go somewhere else til the problem was resolved, I would love to know how to get hold of the owner of the house cause I do not think he would be happy with Mat either read more

Unprofessional, they do not respond to emails or phone calls, everyone I talk to about Beaufort Rentals is not impressed. I suggest finding another rental company if possible. read more
