First courses we experienced were the Chilled English Pea Soup (Minted Peas, Jonah Crab, Crème Fraîche), Local Fluke Crudo (Charred Lemon, Sauce Verde, Radish, Pea Tendils), and Heirloom Carrot Salad (Hazelnuts, Seasoned Yogurt, Green Harissa, Bitter Greens). We shared and tasted each others choice and there was consensus about the uniqueness and how wonderful the food tasted. Our choices for main courses were Za'atar Rack of Lamb (Eggplant, Saffron Yogurt, Blistered Tomato, Chickpea Salad, Herbs) and Pan-Seared Halibut (Carrot Ginger Purée, Crispy Prosciutto, Mélange of Spring Vegetables, Spinach, Fregola, Butter Sauce) The Lamb was quite different from rack of lamb preparation I've had in the past. Good size portion and cooked perfectly and the taste was out of sight delicious. All of got to taste the halibut. Best ever preparation I've had of halibut and I've been fortunate have halibut a number of different ways. Dessert was also a big hit. two of us had the lemon cake a Lemon (Meringue, Lemon Curd, Compressed Strawberries, Rhubarb Compote, Basil) and two of us had the Pistachio Tart (Dark Chocolate Ganache, Pistachio Purée, Variations of Orange, Chocolate Bark, Pistachio Gelato). It took me 2 days to cancel my reservation and they charged me for the room. The desk staff were arrogant and condescending when I tried to explain my frustration. I am a very experienced traveler and have never had such a terrible customer service experience. This is a tough one. The word my wife came up with was spotty. First and damning -- the television didn't get the SUPER BOWL!! The tv (Dish) really sucked, especially for a hotel at this price point. When I first turned it on it lit up "Smart TV" -- really, not quite. The tv is just an example of the hotel -- smoke and mirrors. The rooms were excellent. The food was hot or cold. Some items were excellent and others not so good. I always look for the positives in my reviews. The staff was generally excellent but there were a few outliers. The hotel decor is beautiful - felt like it was designed by Ralph Lauren with an upscale nautical style. The room was spacious, updated and in great condition with high end elements like L'occitane toiletries and marble countertops. The view from our room was phenomenal and it felt like we were staying in a cruise ship with a little balcony overlooking the water. From the minute, we walked in the door, we knew we had found a little bit of paradise. As we speak, we are sitting on our waterfront balcony, looking at sailboats and the beautiful water view. Again, this Hotel could be doing so much better. It's Beautiful ! But the service (everywhere) still stinks. Was there 2 days last week. First day on the roof deck, service was slow. The two bartenders were overwhelmed and were arguing with each other. My sister in law ordered a sandwich. After waiting forever, the waitress said "I can tell you right now the fries are cold. I will bring you hot ones". We never saw her again. We did not eat dinner at 1606 because of previous service issues. Next day as I went to enter the pool deck, a manager badgered me about a wrist band. That's fine. Rules are rules. But she had an attitude. And once I got onto the deck, at least 60% of the people did not have wrist bands. And it was chaos. Little kids jumping into the hot tub (underage and against the rules). Little kids running and jumping into the pool. A terrible, un-relaxing experience. And I thought, she is badgering ne, a guy who just spent $600 on a room. Last year, my stay at the Beauport was a great first impression. This year, not so much. First, my room phone didn't work. A maintenance man came up, looked at the phone for 30 secs., and said he would have to call IT and someone would be in touch with me- no call and when I checked out, the phone still wasn't working. Second, as I was on my way to check out, I fell in the lobby as I was attempting so sit the bench slid back. It took another guest to come to my aid before any staff. And, one of check-out girls was laughing as she asked if I was OK. Upon the actual check-out, no one asked how my stay was (which I thought was a must at a high-end hotel?) When I explained about the phone, the girl just said, "oh, OK". I wanted to give a head's up for the next guest. Maybe a single person isn't as important and plurals? I submitted the online survey, which I'm convinced that no one reads. Last year (when gas prices were huge), I suggested that when a valet brings a car around, don't leave the car running. Well, again, this year, my car was running when I left. It's been a week since the survey and a personal note sent to the GM, but no response. Maybe they don't worry about lawsuits resulting from inhouse injuries, but I think a fall on any property should warrant much more serious attention. read more

The hotel is beautiful, clean, with inviting areas to gather with friends. The bars and decks are the place to be. Staff courteous. Concierge attentive. One female bartender lacked paying attention...and it was not busy. Our room was clean with a great view of the ocean. I've visited Beauport many times since opening. The food has always been a wild card; sometimes good and consistently not-so-great. We had breakfast, lunch and dinner in late February. We heard it was, " a new chef." Chowder tasty but no broth and tons of potatoe, corned beef hash was too full of huge pieces of meat...the proportions so off in comparison to the pepper and potatoes that it was a turn-off. Scallop Carpaccio appetizer (which is served raw and "cooked" in an acid, was very unappealing. The scallops were not thinly sliced but large chunks and did not absorb the flavor of the acid in the dish. And, they smelled fishy. Fishy not Fresh in my book. Still...I will return because I like the bar and the atmosphere...and close to home. read more

I hate to do this but i have to reduce my 5 star rating for the Beauport. First of all, and i must stress this, it has nothing to do with the service, which is still 5 star, the staff are so accommodating and always there with a smile and helpful word, it also has nothing to do with the premises which is still super clean and impeccably maintained, it has to do with the food. What the heck happened? I had some of the best fish and chips i've ever had a few months ago on our last visit, i was so looking forward to another round of that amazing dish, but what i got was one of the worst i've had in a while. Complete 180 from last time. I had to send it back, which i rarely do. First of all, they stopped using the whole fillet of haddock and are now using "fish bits" mainly the tail ends which are always thin, also, the batter has been completely changed and now resembles some pitifully thin excuse for batter not the delicious crisp beer batter as before, this new one which, by being so thin and weak, lets the fish start to curl as it fries and because its so thin it can't protect the fish inside as it cooks so it sucks all the moisture out of an already thin, chewy and dry piece of fish. The coleslaw was similar to KFC's but not as good, wow, never thought i'd say that. Saving grace was the chips, they are now a little thicker which is more traditional for fish and chips, but the sacrifice in fish and batter quality was not worth it. I was tempted to only drop one star as the crab cake we had was delicious, but then breakfast was also a little disappointing, it just lacked the care and attention i believe we had on our last visit, this time we had soggy muffins, over cooked bacon, although the Belgian waffle was devine..... For dinner one of our party had Beauport Haddock which we had last time, the difference again was disturbing, it was just ok, no wow factor, its a signature dish that needs to be remembered for representing the hotel with the same quality and luxury feel as the rest of the property. Not everything was bad, shirt rib sliders were great, chowder was terrific as was the pasta and steak dishes, but i'm partial to my fish and chips, maybe a little too much! I am praying they fix these things for our next visit, we will be back as we still love the property and staff, but maybe we will have to eat out, which is such a shame. read more

TL;DR: Do NOT book a hotel block here if you are having your wedding in Gloucester. The decor and ambiance of the hotel and rooms was beautiful - we had a lovely ocean view with balcony. This is the only positive part of our experience. Background; we were here for a wedding of which there were 3 that night. Our group, along with other groups, was rowdy and the hotel shut the bar down early. Understandable. As a bartender myself, I wouldn't want to serve people who have been drinking all night/day at a wedding. The group stayed in the lobby for a while, as guests started trickling away to their rooms, there were 6 or 7 guests who went to one room to continue the party. Within minutes, the security guard knocked on the door, with the police(?!), and told the guests they needed to leave ASAP as they were trespassing because there were more than 4 people in the room??? All of the guests were staying at the hotel and had their own rooms. Convinced that others were involved, the security guard began knocking on doors of other rooms?? Two of which were part of our group. Both rooms were full of SLEEPING people. One of the rooms he left be. The other room - he threw the guests out. They forced all 3 SLEEPING guests to leave at 1 AM after they had been drinking - it's virtually impossible to get an Uber or taxi in Gloucester at that hour. One guest had a parent who also attended the wedding who woke up to drive the group home (45 minutes away). Though this person had been sleeping for a couple hours, he was not in a condition to drive. Why on earth would they be forcing people who are not sober to drive home?! All of the commotion would have been entirely avoided and our experience would have been mostly positive had they just asked the guests to turn off the music or return to their rooms. Again, they had been in this one room for less than 5 minutes when the security guard came - it's not like they were screaming and blasting music for hours beforehand. The security guard escalating the situation created the disturbance for other guests of the hotel (not in our group) who came out into the hallway after the chaos. We had two rooms that went unused with no refund ($500 a night hotel). Other points of disappointment: Upon checking in, I waited at the check in desk for roughly 5 minutes while two employees discussed the days events. Not once did they even look at me. A "We'll be with you in a moment" would have been nice - to just at least be acknowledged. Upon returning from the wedding, the same security guard from above yelled at a guest asking her, "what the f*ck are you doing" when she hit her vape inside. Of course, she shouldn't have done that - but a simple "please go outside to smoke" would have worked. The buffet service and food were just okay. We were forced to valet. Not a big deal but not my preference. Side note - the wedding itself took place at the Cruiseport which I believe is the same ownership. That experience was lovely. read more

I have never been treated so poorly by an establishment. They were beyond rude to me and my family. Ruined my moms birthday party and could of cared less. I will never step foot in that place again. They were so disrespectful and when I asked for a manger they told me I hade to leave. After spending close to $1,000 on dinner which was just average we were all shocked and even after calling the owner she never took the time to call me back. Delicious' we had a socially distanced breakfast here on a Sunday morning in December. It was gorgeous & so yummy! I went simple and had their traditional breakfast; eggs over easy (perfectly cooked), English muffin, home fries and bacon. Everything was good. The bacon could've been crispier but otherwise no complaints. My boyfriend got the foraged mushroom omelette and he loved it. Portions were huge so neither of us finished but rather left with a to to bag for later. Afterwards we walked around to check out their lobby and gift shop. My family and I have enjoyed the Beauport for the last 3 years. We would stay there about two times a year. The hotel is very clean and the atmosphere is perfect. We love the convenience of the beach right there, and not having to worry about packing towels or chairs. The roof top pool is also our favorite. It's the perfect way to end a beach day. We booked our stay for this upcoming summer season, and shortly after received a notice that the roof top pool was being transformed to an adult only area. This was extremely disappointing and discouraging. My daughter looks forward to staying here yearly for this amenity alone. It is sad to say that our time at the Beauport will be ending as I will not continue to stay here if my child and other children are being discriminated against. read more

Great location, interiors and views with a TRAGIC flaw. Unfortunately there is a seafood supplier just behind the hotel taking deliveries at all hours of the night (2,3,4 AM). In addition to the loud running engine of a large truck, you get the bonus of banging and clanking throughout the unloading process. The hotewalls are thin and do little to insulate the sound. Deliveries take 30 minutes to an hour so it's not noise that dissipates allowing you to go back to sleep quickly. I have stayed here several times and and any rooms on the city side suffer from this issue. As much as I like the hotel itself, sleep is a priority so I won't be returning. Look elsewhere unless you are the type of person who can sleep through anything. read more

This is easily the best hotel that I've ever stayed at. Independent, boutique hotels are really the way to go. I went here for some solo Mom time and could not have enjoyed it any more. My room was ocean view with incredible fireplace. As this was a retreat for me, I purposely stayed in my room the whole time and just ordered in room dining for every meal. The service was fast, my food was always hot and delicious. When I arrived, the front desk welcomed me with in-room champagne and chocolate, a personal note and a few original gifts. My goodness, I was so incredibly surprised and grateful. The attention to detail was impeccable. To me, this is what matters. These people remembered, from my initial phone reservation, why I was coming here. They took notes and made me feel like I made the right choice, and demonstrated that they appreciated my business. I've never seen this level of care from a hotelier before. No exaggeration. For other technical things, I parked using valet and that was complimentary, but daily parking cost $10. Not bad. I came on a weekend it snowed, so having my car tucked away under a garage was really priceless. The staff was hospitable upon entry and exit. Didn't need to ask for anything, they were already ready to assist. You must check out the Beauport. You will not be disappointed! read more

My boyfriend and I came for my 30th birthday weekend early August and we are so happy we did. During this pandemic the staff has really made some great protocols to make guests feel safe and try to have as normal of a time as they can. The rooms are beautiful and ours was very clean. We used the rooftop pool and loved the beautiful views of the ocean while being up there and they have great music playing and have tables so if you want to have lunch you can. They do have a beach right on the property that you can use. It is small but very clean. There are of course fabulous beaches very close by but be prepared to go first thing in the morning and wait in the lines. Location wise, this hotel is so close to downtown area, so there are many restaurants, and shopping minutes away. Lastly, the restaurant that is part of the hotel, beyond romantic and the food is delicious! If you order from the appetizer menu, these portions are large, they can easily be a meal. Also, the cocktails are so good and they have a fire pit and heating towers so when have dinner or cocktails at sunset to night you will be comfortable. read more

Very disappointed in our stay. The setting was beautiful, but it was all downhill from there. The service was simply poor. It's almost as if the guest is an inconvenience or I hate to say it- the guest is the enemy. From the moment we got there, the bar staff, security, reception, and management were down right rude. We were part of a large wedding and everybody really felt the same way. We really wanted to love it, but every time we turned around someone was saying no to us for something or acted like we were some kind of criminals. My wife got locked out of her room in a robe and security wouldn't let her back in her room even after she produced an ID and her confirmation on her phone. It took 20 minutes to solve that dilemma and that was honestly just the tip of the iceberg. The bartender told us we had to settle our tab after every round because "we might walk out on our bill" I ordered a drink for my 48 year old sister and the bartender wouldn't serve it to me until I physically proved that the drink was for her. I'm 50 by the way. I understand Tips certification but that's ridiculous. My friend and my brother in law who was also staying at the hotel was asked to settle up at the pool while they were still eating for no apparent reason. The list is honestly too long to continue. No menu for breakfast?? Buffet only?? It was horrible. The fruit was actually rotten. Our room was 800 dollars a night. I can't get an omelette?? It's not the Holiday Inn. It's a beautiful hotel with a serious service culture problem. I know they are fairly new so I hope they figure it out - but we will NEVER be back. Very Unfortunate.
