I used to go to Headmasters in Great Portland Street (London) but after my hairdresser moved to…read moreBrighton, I couldn't not follow. It is a pricey salon, there's no getting away from that, but they do colour sales and 'VIP' (loyalty) discounts, so there are ways to make it cheaper. I've never had a bad experience with them and my hairdresser Bryce is absolutely wonderful. Could not recommend him enough as he's always done an incredible job on my hair. I've attached a photo of my new purple do so you can see his amazing colour work. Before that he'd helped he get from a darker brown through to a natural looking blonde that suited my roots. Always happy and feeling great afterwards. And the chairs that you sit in while washing your hair have massages in them!

I was damn impressed by this place, and had to come and yelp about it right away. There aren't many…read moresalons I can think of that are this big and finished to such a fine detail, that let you call them up on the day, get an appointment for an hour and a halves time, turn up looking dishevelled and dripping with rain, and show a picture of an animé character and say "can you make me look like this please?" without laughing you out of the shop and to a mental institute. But that's exactly what I did, and it only cost £15. Maybe I picked a quite time to go and was somewhat fortunate, but I felt every bit as pampered (boy is it hard to sound manly when talking about haircuts) as I have done in the handful of other salons I have visited, and revisited. I'm not the chattiest of people when having my hair put at risk, and am quite satisfied to exchange meaningful words and light hearted jokes, rather than to talk aimlessly throughout the process. And from the looks of things, the fine men and women at Headmasters seemed more than happy to comply with either approach. So far as the consultation was concerned, it was easily the most practical I've had... Which was in no small part aided by me showing a picture of Spike Spiegel (from Cowboy Bebop) and asking if his gravity defying curls were physically possible. While assuring me that it would not look exactly the same, I personally felt it came as close to the fiction as reality would allow without the aid of a wig, and for that I'm bloomin' grateful. I have to say, I felt silly for making such a random request, but I was reassured incredibly quickly... Needless to say, I'll be returning to Headmasters again when I next have the urge to animé myself up!

And as I sat waiting for my wax appointment, I did feel terribly scruffy in my parka and trainers. However, the staff were genuinely lovely- really welcoming and efficient...and although I felt like I'd walked into a Baby Spice beauty salon, I began to sort of like the ostentatiousness of it all! But I wasn't there to inspect the decor, so let's get down to the nitty gritty. Waxing is never pleasant and I, with a particularly low pain threshold, have always found bikini waxing to be something of a complete and utter nightmare! I usually book appointments and then chicken out at the last minute. I have been back to this place twice now, so that's saying something! The girl who did my wax was chirpy, competent and above all QUICK! Her name is Rene and she is definitely the best waxer I've ever been to. At £10, its also much cheaper than many other places in town! Now, let's return momentarily to the Pink Champagne Nail Bar. That's right, you can sip champagne whilst having your nails done. What will they think of next? So, if you want a manicure with a fancy twist, this is the place for you!

I can't explain it, I'm one of those people that feels like if my eyebrows are on point, I can conquer the world! (and not wear makeup) Anyway, in my opinion, Brighton feels pretty notorious for having eyebrow threading places that are really below par. I hadn't actually had my eyebrows threaded for over two months for fear of having them butchered. Because of this, my eyebrows were starting to look a little...*ahem* 'unkempt'. I decided I couldn;t handle it any more, and noticed that Lashious had opened on Western Road. I went inside and was greeted by two lovely ladies, and the lady who threaded my eyebrows listened patiently as I ranted about having ruined eyebrows. She did notice that they didn't quite match, and said she would do her best to make them even, and that she did! I have to say I was really impressed. I didn't feel rushed, and the lady that threaded my brows listened to me when I said I didn't want them too thin. This will definitely be my go to place to get my brows done. *Offering full beauty services from 1st June *Used to be the brow bar inside Churchill Square.

The décor is plush but understated, in shades of cream and deep plum, with the furniture in the treatment rooms in dark wood. The waiting area has a comfortable sofa with those expensive coffee table travel books for you to browse while you wait, which adds to the sensation of luxury. My massage was OK, to be honest I would have preferred a slightly stronger pressure, and its quality was really put into context by an excellent massage that I had elsewhere recently. It's not especially cheap (£45 for an hour's full body massage), but then, not that many places are. It's clear however that at Body and Soul you do pay for the atmosphere of the place, as well as the treatment.

This is the place to go for all manner of nail extension, embellishment and design. My experience is limited to a plain old understated manicure, but some of the women around me were acquiring full on talons! The woman who did my nails was very fast and efficient...possibly a little too speedy actually, I like to languish in the rare treat of having someone faff about with my nails and make them look pretty! But its a serious operation they've got going down there...it gets busy and you can be in and out of your chair before you know it! Obviously if you're having a full set of silks or acrylics the process will be more lengthy. They do refills too, naturally. Like all respectable nail salons, there are endless intricate design possibilities- mostly achieved using airbrush and stencils...whether you fancy flowers, lettering or a simple pattern, they'll cater to your every artistic whim. Fancy seasonal nails for Christmas? I'm 100% sure they'll do it. Oh, they do waxing too, but judging by the speed with which my nails were done, I'd be a bit scared...

I was really in the mood for a pick me up preen and pamper, so when I noticed that Natural Nails…read morewas open on a weekday at 6.30, I went straight on in. Immediately I was greeted by one of the ladies, who was straight to the point and asked what I wanted. She didn't speak very much English but I understood that they did Shellac and it would be £25. I nodded and was hastily taken to an empty chair. It's a good idea to know exactly what you want, as I'm pretty terrible at making decisions at the best of times and change my nail varnish every few days! So it was a little awkward, being handed an array of colours to choose from and not having a clue where to begin! The lady was a little impatient and really wanted to get on with the manicure. She did try to help narrow the choices for me, but you could tell that she wasn't impressed. We finally went for a light nudey pink with a little shimmer to it. The lady having her nails done next to me was so warm and lovely, and clearly a regular. Apparently, the glitters and shimmery ones last longer on the nails. Nothing was explained, but I followed the minimal instructions given. I think this was mainly due to the limited English. The lady certainly knew what she was doing and rigorously attacked my cuticles with precision and skill. This was painless and the end result was fantastic, this being the part that I am a bit rubbish at and nervous to do myself! Having my nails done is a bit of a treat for me and not something I treat myself to very often. If you're looking for a pampering, girly experience out of Legally Blonde, I'd suggest going elsewhere. However, if you're looking for a speedy service with a great end result, don't fancy making painful chit chat and can put up with that overpowering acrylic nail smell, then give this place a go! You'll need to pop to a cash machine beforehand as they don't except cards, but there is a machine conveniently placed just a few doors down if you were to find yourself without.
