Met Ally the beginning of the year while I was getting my eyelash extensions done. I've been through every eyebrow enhancement procedure there has been: microblading, tattooing, etc and each procedure has left my brows discolored and scarred after a year or so. I'm originally from Long Beach so it was quite a drive to come here but I knew before hand her work was totally worth the drive. *One main tip is where it's located it's located in the corned of the plaza so you may miss it. I took a picture of the front so it's easier for people to find it.* When first entering, her studio is shared with her business partner who does lashes in the front so double positive if you need your lash extensions done! The studio is located in the back and it's super posh and clean which is always a plus! This is a pretty overdue review (sorry, Ali!) but the upside is that I can report just how well the shape and color of my eyebrow tattoo have maintained more than a year later. I had the eyebrow ombré shading done in January 2020 with a touch-up a month later. I had never had any type of semipermanent makeup done prior so I was nervous but Ali had been extremely professional, patient, and supportive in describing what to expect as well as answering any questions I had. She was skilled, meticulous, and thorough in her process. I also very much appreciated her warm, sweet, and easygoing personality which made the time pass by quickly. Can i give 10 stars? LOL! I originally got my semi-permanent tattoo done last year by a pretty famous artist in OC...unfortunately I didn't feel like continuing my brow relationship with her anymore.... My husband encouraged me to find someone local...he said "I'm sure someone equally as good or better is available here in LA"....I was hesitant at first since the previous job was done really well...but I was constantly having panic attacks and just felt really intimidated by the old artist...I decided it wasn't worth all the stress so I searched on Yelp and found Ali...my husband was right!! There IS someone better! :) I texted Ali after finding her info on Yelp and she responded promptly. We texted back and forth and she happened to be available the next day...I've seen her work on Instagram and I was pretty blown away! When I went in to her studio first thing I noticed was how beautiful the set up was. The studio was cozy and very modern! Ali came in, introduced herself and she literally was the coolest person EVER! She discussed everything with me, took her time drawing and calmed me down and didn't make me feel anxious at all! She was willing to do the touch up of a previous artist, but because I wanted a new shape I went for a new set. If you are reading this, yes. Don't even think twice about it and just go get them done by Alison. I did my fair share of research on getting my eyebrows done. I even thought about microblading, but I am so so so glad that I found Alison and got the ombre powder brows!! It was very easy to book with Alison and she was also very easy and straightforward to communicate with. Her studio is amaaaaazing!! I loved the privacy and the comfort of her studio. It was super clean and very nicely decorated #interiorgoals. When I went in for my procedure the very first time, Ali made me feel super comfortable. She explained everything that needed to be done step by step and made sure that everything was in order before she began her magical process. I am extremely picky with my eyebrows, so it took over an hour to just shape and color in my eyebrows with pencil, but Ali was super patient with me throughout the whole process and made adjustments to my liking and to exactly how I wanted them to be. The procedure: I have a pretty high pain tolerance, so I didn't need to keep re-applying the numbing cream, but she made sure that I was comfortable and that I was not lying there in painful silence. She explained why she was doing certain things and made sure that I was aware of what was going on during the whole procedure. Everything took ~2.5-3 hours. She explained to me that my eyebrows would be super dark and thick for the first couple of days, and that this is normal. The color fades about 30-40%, I think, so if you want them to be darker when they heal, I would suggest getting a darker pigment! Healing process: SUPER EASY!! Alison gave me a little pouch with instructions and some ointment to put on my brows. I followed all the directions and my eyebrows healed very nicely. It took about a week to fully heal! The color faded to the exact color I wanted it to be. Retouch: I went in for my retouch 6 weeks later when my brows were fully healed, and the process was a lot faster than the first. Alison carefully retouched the parts of my eyebrows that did not retain color as well as other parts, and adjusted my shape a little to even out my brows a little bit more. Again, she made sure I was comfortable throughout the whole process. I get compliments on my eyebrows every single day! Getting ready in the morning is also super duper easy because I don't have to worry about my eyebrows. My best advice to anyone considering brow tattoo - DO YOUR RESEARCH. If you're going to let someone do something to your face, check their references and don't let price/convenience be the determining factor. I am a victim of crappy brows so I was extra cautious and diligent in my search this time. For you ladies that are unsure, I promise you - this will change your life. My Situation: -Brows that are sparse due to over-plucking, genetic disposition,and hair growth similar to throwing up gang signs, i.e. the minimal hair growth I do have is in all different directions. -Previous microblading from another artist years ago that turned from brown to orange/red, uneven, unnatural -Couldn't even go the grocery store without putting on makeup or wearing glasses to detract from the ridiculousness The Process: 1. Setting expectations: -Ali made sure to make sure I understood all the phases of the process. -For example, the initial drawing would be much thicker than how I normally draw them in due to the healing process because as your brows heal, the skin will constrict and shrink. I'll admit I was a bit shocked when I first saw them done, but she was right, they shrunk down to exactly how I normally draw them in. -Example 2: letting me know that the touch up is just as important as the initial session. This is where the final magic happens, as everyone is different and is coming in with different brow circumstances. -Example 3: letting me know that the color intensity will fade 30-50%. this was important as I thought I looked like an Angry Bird character, but the color after tthe healing was exactly how I wanted it which was a natural ashy brown color. 2. The drawing and color match: -This is where a good amount of time was spent, Ali drew my brows in based on what I normally do in terms of my normal make up routine. Then she got my feedback on what I thought and I asked her if we could make adjustments in certain areas and why she may not do certain things on the initial session until we see how I heal the first time around. -Since she is a professional make up artist with reputable work, I trusted her advice, but we went back and forth a few times until we both were happy with moving forward. To be clear this was not an argument it was more me questioning the art of the drawing. She explained to me how certain people have more curved brow bones on one eye vs a flat one on the other. Which totally explains why I can never draw them in evenly. 3. The tattooing: -The initial outline requires no numbing cream - trust me I'm a baby and it didn't hurt a bit. -The filling in of the brow does require numbing cream which Ali re-applied throughout the entire process to ensure it was painless. Literally I was just getting sleepy while she was doing it. At one point I did start to feel it, which she immediately took a short break and let the numbing cream take effect. After that it was all easy breezy. Seriously I have very low pain tolerance and this was nothing compared to my microblading. -Overall time - this Ombre Brow method is more time intensive than microblading and for good reason. There's more technique involved in getting that polished natural look vs. someone just cutting strokes into your brow bone during a microblade session. 4. After Care: -After care, after care, after care. Do what she says! She gave me a take home pack of aquaphor (it's similar to vaseline). Water cannot touch your brows for 36-48 hours. After that you can lightly wash them but aquaphor needs to be applied throughout the entire 6-7 day scabbing off process. 5. Healing: -The scabbing process is actually not too bad, it's the brow ends/edges flake off on day 4-5 -Day 6-7 the rest of it comes off. -Day 7 - I was ready to go out in public without make up on. (Same healing process applies for the touch-up) 6. After 4 weeks I did the final touch-up session: Due to my previous microblading from another artist I had scar tissue on a particular part of my brow where the color didn't take as well. And now that she could see how I healed, she told how she was going to compensate for the previously damaged area. She did more "saturated" coloring in that spot and now that I'm fully healed, it definitely made the difference. 7. My brow goals achieved: -I can go in public without make up on -I can go into the pool/lake and come out without people wondering where my brows went -I save 15 minutes of my life in the morning i.e. 15 minutes of extra sleep!!!!! -I can spend the night at a guys house and not have him wonder where my brows went after I washed my face. Ali is a perfectionist and got my brows just the way I want them. Her hombre powder technique is unique and much more subtle, yet clean than that of its comparative technique known as micro blading. I must warn future clients that when leaving the initial apt, your brows will be darker and bolder than that of your ideal color and width. They lighten significantly and thin out a ton after the immediate results. I would encourage clients to welcome a bolder look than usual when leaving your apt because otherwise you won't end up with the color you want. I went light on my first apt and needed to add significant color during my touch up to get the color I was looking for. Ali is great and so much fun to chat with. I went to Ali in June and was there for a few hours. She takes her time in making sure you are happy. She first draws your eyebrows that is best suited for your face shape and comfort level. Then she goes in and starts tattoo shading. At first I was in shock because my eyebrows were so dark but Ali ensured that they would fade, and they did. The eyebrows didn't really take the first time since I have oily skin but the touch up did the trick. Ali really knows what she's doing because she was darkening my right eyebrow more than my left. I didn't feel comfortable with that but she said my right eyebrow needed to be darker because it was fading faster than my left. And she was right again, my eyebrows faded perfectly and evenly. I visited Alison a few months ago for ombré eyebrow tattoo and I'm so happy I went with her. I did a lot of research before making my appointment and have zero regrets. She's a true artist and my eyebrows are completely healed and beautiful and save me a helluva lot of time and effort in the mornings. From the initial drawing to the tattooing and the touch up, Alison was a perfectionist which I really appreciated. I much prefer the overall look to microblading which I've had done before with someone else a couple years ago. This overall look is soft but fills in much more color than microblading. My new brows + eyelash extensions = I can now get up and go makeupless which saves me so much time and hassle in the morning. When I want to go more dramatic, esp for someone like me who's clueless when it comes to brows, its like I have this perfect template and I just follow the shape and slightly darken. Alison really takes her time to make everything perfect and I believe she goes above and beyond to make you feel comfortable and have the best outcome. She's super kind and patient and makes you feel very at ease. Her numbing technique is excellent and the whole thing is very tolerable. Her studio space is beautiful and relaxing and has a good parking lot.
