We bought several bamboos from Stan and he was always very knowledgeable and honest about which bamboo to choose and his bamboos have now grown to full size and given our house the privacy from our neighbors that we so dearly wanted. But what really sets Stan apart from others, is that when we just had some of our bamboos "dieing" after many years of nurturing them, he actually took the time to give us advice when there was no sale involved. He told us to water our bamboos more and the leaves would come back on the bamboos that are still not completely dead, instead of cutting them all down now as we feared that we had to do. This saved our day, after all the hard work we have done to finally get our beloved bamboos to full size. My backyard has an old railway tie retaining wall that is 5ft at its tallest point. On top of that is a 6ft fence. This monumental wall was hideous to look at for starters. But recently my neighbor's also built a 30ft dwelling unit peering directly into my backyard and bedroom window. That was the last straw! I contacted Stan and felt immediate tranquility after our very first conversation. It was clear he had my best interests at heart and cared to provide me with the best possible solution for privacy. When you have a big problem, you need to consult the professionals! A clump of bamboo that was thought to be well contained in my yard had actually gone under the 30" root barrier and was headed for the neighbor's lawn. (The type of bamboo, incidentally, is known as Chusquea gigantea - you definitely want to steer clear of this one unless you have a very large space. Oddly enough, Stan says it is often slow to establish.. but after 8 or so years mine was out of control). Some work had already been done to retrieve the runaway lateral rhizomes, but nothing seemed to be making a dent in the massive root mass that was left - even a chain saw failed, and my neighbor assured me a sawzall was not going to work either. Stan has specialized instruments called "slammers" which are specifically designed for bamboo excavation - and his crew knows what they are doing. This was a messy, muddy job, but Stan and crew did great work in close quarters and got this monster bamboo out of my yard and out of my life. I feel cleansed. read more

I'm glad I went with Stan and his crew at Beauty and the Bamboo. I had a 3' by 20' bamboo grove that was escaping its outdated concrete barrier into a wall of boulders and toward my neighbor's property (eeek!). The bamboo had to come out. Stan provided various options that could help lower my costs, and we worked out a price I could agree to. I won't call it cheap (it isn't), because bamboo removal is really hard, rigorous work and -- now that I got my hands dirty deconstructing part of my boulder wall and removing some of the bamboo myself -- those involved deserve to be paid well. Stan predicted they'd need 2-3 hours and they had it done in right around 2 hours. I was doing my work alongside them and each member of the crew was helpful and giving me pointers as I attacked my part of the work. That saved me time. They cleaned up the work area well. One guy in the crew even grabbed a pile of bush trimmings I'd left out and brought it over to my yardwaste bin for me. I don't expect that they'll do extras like that for everyone (this only takes a minute or two after all), but I think its exemplary of the type of character this crew has. I had the unfortunate experience this week of using Stan's services to get an overgrown bamboo plant removed from my yard. The price I was charged for what ended up being a very simple job was obscene. I had heard that bamboo was an invasive plant that must be contained or prevented from growing near homes. Mr. Andersson came out and convinced me my plant was tremendously overgrown and threatening both my house and my neighbor's. With a deep root structure, this would be a huge job and would cost a lot. Well, his crew subsequently came out and removed the bamboo in about 2 hours. The roots were only about six inches deep. For this I was charged $1180. I questioned the price as this job ended up being much simpler than what was described to me in his bid. Oh, no, he couldn't possibly lower his price. I felt 'Stan' took advantage of my lack of knowledge and ripped me off. He was even going to discount my final price by the $40 he charged me for an estimate visit but he never gave me that either. This guy is a sales guy who will rip you off. I would advise folks to steer clear from this business and go somewhere else. I would not recommend him to anyone. read more

Absolutely recommend, and I would buy from Stan again. Stan helped me buy what I wanted (a whole lot of 5' tall bamboo) at a price I could actually afford, by clueing me in to the option of sawing bamboo in half. I could tell you the long story, but the short version is that everything he said would work did work, and I only had problems where I took shortcut and did not follow his instructions, so **do exactly what he recommends!** I have to add that as a new homeowner in the last year, I have become sort of a difficult customer. Trust me, if you deal with enough contractors and get ripped off enough times, you sort of get fed up. The point is, Stan was VERY patient with me when I thought the bamboo was dying (it wasn't, but it needed mulch and more water), and talked me through it over email, eventually figuring out where the problems were. Bamboo...is there anything it can't do? You wouldn't think it would be hard to find this place - I mean, how DO you hide a 30 foot bamboo forest? - but it is sort of hard to find. It's a fenced house off of 85th in Greenwood. The person that helped us was incredibly knowledgeable about all the different types of bamboo and walked us all around the yard trying to match our needs with his stock. A koala bear friend of mine told me about this great place to find many species of cool bamboo - right in the middle of Greenwood! Beauty and the Bamboo has a fantastic selection of some exotic and many common varieties of bamboo - in GREAT shape - and at much lower prices than any nursery around. The guy that runs the place is a nice bamboo lover. If you're lucky enough to catch him (call for an appt.) he will show you around his grounds and suggest species for your particular needs. Need to screen that neighbor who's always scratching his belly in his underwear? Want something serene and calming for that zen garden you're dreaming about puting in? Go here, talk to the man... They offer over 20 varieties of bamboo (all gorgeous), liners for planting in ground and many tips for growing and care. Id have given a 5 star, but I haven't actually gone through a transaction yet.
