Avoid this place. The service was nonexistent; I was the only person in line for five minutes while the cashier ignored me to clean. I ordered lavender rosemary latte but my coffee came as plain latte. The tall girl with short colorful hair is weird as if she has something against you! The food was even worse. My salad was full of wilted vegetables, and the bacon and potatoes were cold, hard, and clearly cooked hours ago. To top it off, the plates have deep grooves that make it impossible to eat--ketchup and egg yolks get stuck in the grooves. I genuinely worried about the material's safety. If you want to help people, start by serving fresh, safe food. I wouldn't be surprised if that salad was a health hazard. I just wasted over $30 for a very low quality food. There was a note sitting in my drafts for more than six years, and I finally decided to update it. Let's talk about plants. Swansons has the best, most disease-free, absolutely beautiful collection of indoor and outdoor plants. Both of us are true plant aficionados, and each visit somehow adds something new to our little home and garden. My kids were very little when we first started coming here. Back then it was all about letting them touch leaves, feel the soil, and get those little green-thumb imprints. Now they adore it just as much, though I have to say they come for the koi more than anything else while we nibble on something from the café. The café deserves its own mention. When the kids are at school and we want a quiet brunch surrounded by nature and fish, this is where we go. The food is fresh and comforting, the breakfast potatoes are perfect, and I absolutely love their lattes. And here comes the part I am obsessed with. Their Christmas collection. Honestly, wow. Their ornaments always find a place in our home. The variety, the sparkle, the whimsy, the charm. Everything feels magical. We also love the Swanson Bucks, because you truly get value for what you spend and the plants are as happy as they can be. What a magical place during the holidays. This nursery is nestled in north Ballard and the smell of pine cones and Christmas trees fills the air. It's nice to go here at night and drive through the old neighborhood by Loyal Heights elementary that reminds me of a Christmas card from the 70's. That neighborhood really goes all out with decorations and I don't recall the name. I also love getting a fresh Kringle from Larsons to support local and go to Ballard coffee. Value is a little pricy and you get quality. Service is always exceptional. Heading to Swansons brings me back to when I would walk by here as a kid going to Whitman middle school. I know it's early in the season but I've had the best luck in selection and quality at Swansons. Also, I've had neighbors purchase starter plants from this nursery that did exceptionally well. I couldn't believe it was Seattle for a little bit there- it's like a portal into another world. Service was great. Selection was great. This is a fabulous nursery. They have many options and various species. They are always stocked up. The down side is the pricing. I get it, it's the demographic and what not. However, you can find same plants cheaper elsewhere. Parking is big, but often times the nursery is packed, spots are super tight. There is also street parking. This is a great event for the family all year long. The holiday season is beautiful and fun for little ones. The service is poor. Often times you see employees but you have to chase them down to help you as they always seem in a rush to do what they need to do. There are many registers but only a few open most times. read more

We came here to check out the holiday decor and items and we weren't disappointed! The set up was gorgeous and you could smell the pine in the air. There were lots of fun photo opportunities around the nursery including the large dinosaur out front and Santa's yurt! My kids loved the koi pond. It was impressive how many fish they had and how well kept it was. Best place in town for all of your plant needs! We've frequented here over the past two years after buying a house and starting to work on small landscaping projects. The staff here is always knowledgable and friendly, we've never left without getting help and there is always someone willing and ready to help us pick out just the right thing. We recently had a challenging project with lots of shaded area and not great soil, but we got great help picking out some options that would work for us. I love coming here in the summer to see the big dahlia selection, there is always something interesting to look at. The price for the plants is solidly in the middle, not the cheapest place, but but a the quality not the worst by far, though soil options can be a bit more expensive here. I purchased some lovely rex begonias from Swansons Nursery several years ago, and they need repotting. Not realizing how fragile the root system was , i used regular potting soil and amost killed them all. Luckily, I went back to Swansons and spoke with a young man who suggested I add some horticultural sand to the mixture. It worked on one & the other shows promise too. I have been to Swansons many times so I was very surprised at my last visit. Two young women employees were standing around chatting, the annual fuchsia I picked up was totally dry and starting to wilt (as was the entire flat of them), the sign for "primula" did not have any primulas by it. Another late Yelp post. I have been periodically visiting Swanson's Nursery since the 1990s, way before Yelp, dating back to when I used to be a Seattle resident. Big draw back then were accruing and spending Swanson dollars throughout the seasons. Also, during the holidays there were reindeer onsite to see. Today, I had one giant outdoor pot that really needed a tall perrenial like a bright salvia (5/4/22). Wandered the grounds, but only saw large salvias (diameter wise) that were over $30. Too large and pricey and had to pass. I did find a wildflower packet though from PacNW gardener, Ed Hume. Big spender during this visit, cost less than a mocha, lol. Again, everything available for your indoor and outdoor gardening needs. There is also a convenient onsite cafe. Staff is stationed at the entrance and throughout the grounds for questions or assistance. read more

They have an incredible collection of all varieties of plants, but I have never done anything beyond beginner plants. So when I decided to try setting up a closed terrarium, I had a number of questions about plants and setting things up. I spoke to Christina (Kristina? Swanson's has it all - Electric train holiday display, Santa's Outpost with interesting displays, small playhouse for the kids, koi ponds next to the cafe, cute photo ops, a light up dinosaur at the entrance and so many different ornaments to choose from! Yes things are a bit pricey but I was happy with my one special ornament choice for the year. They of course had a million different plants but since I'm not a green thumb I walked right past all of those I would recommend coming here with small children if you are looking for something festive to do for free! read more

I had never been to Swansons and all I can say is WOW! My son LOVED IT! it is a nursery so tons of plants, flowers & trees, also some gardening stuff & ornaments for christmas. Now on to my toddlers faves: - the koi pond. It is huge & my son LOVED watching the fish. It did take a bit of coaching so he didn't stick his hand in the water. - the train display for christmas! WOW! it was amazing! it was dino themed and huge & so fun. We spent 30 mins easily just watching the train go by. they also do have a cafe with yummy drinks and snacks, will most definitely become at least an annual trip for us. read more

I absolutely love this place! It's the never-ending green garden from the concrete jungle of Seattle. I am a proud plant mom, and I really enjoy taking girl trips to Swanson's in search of future plant adoptions. I love the wide selection of indoor plants which is great for my apartment, and they have a great variety of plants pots to choose from. The staff is also extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I'd say the prices are a little steep, the first time I went to Swanson's I spent over $300 on indoor plants, but the quality and variety makes it worth it to me (along with their plant warranty, which I think is really cool). Would recommend, and come hungry so you can visit their cute little cafe and coy fish. read more

This is my favorite nursery in Seattle and is my happy place. I love walking around here, enjoying all the flowers and plants, and people watching. They have some very reasonably priced plants and pots but you do have to do some digging to find them. I just wish their plants on sale were in a bit better condition as I've never found ones I liked. They also have a cafe where you can get coffee and food and it smells incredible. On a sunny day in February I went with a couple friends to Swanson's and it was one of the best days I've had in recent time. We spent a long time just meandering around, enjoying all of the beautiful plants and flowers, both in and outside. Other than everyone wearing masks it almost felt "normal." My hubs and I are part of a P-Patch community garden and every spring and summer, we come here to buy vegetable starts (lettuces, carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers, etc), Sluggo (organic way to keep the slugs away), and anything else we need (gloves, tools, etc) to get our garden going. We also love coming in November and December to see the beautiful holiday displays and the amazing collection of Christmas tree decorations. A delightful place. But don't order the "vegetable hash" for breakfast. You have to hunt for the potatoes, the typical main body of hash...but plenty of other vegetables, which you cannot taste because their flavors are smothered by the dominating presence of Brussels sprouts. Only the onions stand up against the sprouts...and the tug of war between these two ingredients just leaves a bitter aftertaste. Gave up about halfway through. read more

We love this cozyyet complete nursery. They cater extremely well to children, who can be found playing in the toy house, watching koi swim in the cafe, running through the hay maze (October) or Christmas tree building (December). They are everywhere and seem to be welcome! A variety of trees, shrubs, flowers (seasonal), bulbs, etc. can be found throughout the large nursery for enjoyment at home in your own gardens/yards.
