I went in to Beauty Works for a full body massage and facial, which was booked online through the discount website "Groupon.co.uk". The one hour massage and one hour facial would normally cost £85, but was discounted to £29 for both treatments.
I was led up the stairs into a dark, narrow treatment room, which overlooked the high street so was quite noisy. Due to the dirty floor and damp on the wall, I though that maybe they had just moved in and were about to redecorate? I was told by the therapist that apparently they have been there for 25 years!
My massage and facial were nice and the therapist was friendly. However, it wasn't quite a full body massage. I was also unimpressed with the atmosphere of the whole salon. There was not much space to store your clothes, except what I can only describe as some kind of old cellulite busting machine in the corner of the room (which looked like it hadn't been used in 25 years). The therapist covered me with a wool blanket instead of towels. I know it is winter but wool on skin is not the best thing after being covered in oil. Also it made me wonder whether they changed the blankets after every single use. After the massage, the therapist told me she would meet me downstairs to go though some skin care products, which she used for the facial. When I came down there was no sign of her, so I made a quick exit.
I wouldn't go back to Beauty Works, even with a discounted rate and I can't believe that the original price for both was £85, for a salon that can't even manage to clean their floors! read more
